You come for the terrasse, you’re surprised by the one star cuisine.
A nice one star Michelin terrasse is a pretty rare thing in Paris. Actually, the palaces send their own clients here. But then you discover that you’re in one of the cutest surroundings in Paris, the 18th with its famous stairs à la Amelie Poulain.
And that’s the issue, because, you forget about the food. And the food is great.
The interesting point about this chef it’s that he’s not about the trends, or even being “classical “. He has his own style (which is kind of rare, believe me, I ve tried more than 60 Michelin in Paris), and the execution is perfect.
The service was above your average Michelin. The maître d hotel was professional and yet kind. You could hear her smile behind her mask. The crowd was interestingly mixed (couples, business, family lunch).
Overall, a top tiers one star.
Update 2022: This is the one where I decided to do the challenge of trying all the Michelin Stars in Paris under a year (follow me for all the reviews). So I went back a few days shy of a year.
You can compare with the videos and the pictures, the menu has completely changed, but the smiles remained. Although I understand when chefs keeps signature dishes (like I wouldn’t want the quenelle from Relais Louis XIII to disappear! ), I really appreciate when the menu changes and there’s novelty. I also think it helps the chef to stay sharp.
One point extra point because before I was less systematic (now I’m systematically checking it): the wine card and especially, for me, the Champagne one. The selection is quite strong on “artisan” (small vineyards ) for an extremely decent price, thanks to Arnaud Fatome. This is the perfect place to start your journey into dining with a gastronomic champagne.
The package remains an unpretentious top tiers one star
