L'Auberge

"The mix of leather, wood panelling, copper and glass gives L'Auberge the look and feel of an authentic brasserie. Located in Spa's bustling town centre, this restaurant has plenty of regulars, who come to savour traditional Belgian cuisine. The menu features hearty classics such as mussels in white wine (also available in half portions), veal kidneys à la liégeoise, crêpes mikado – the generous flavours will leave you feeling warm and satisfied. The guestrooms are worth a look if you're considering a longer stay." - Michelin Inspector

I had a fantastic lunch at L’Auberge, a seafood gem that serves some of the best mussels I’ve ever had! Even on a Thursday afternoon, the place was packed, which shows how popular it is. The atmosphere was lively, and the service was excellent—our waiter was friendly and attentive. I ordered the mussels with garlic sauce, which came with a generous portion of fries. The mussels were fresh, meaty, and cooked to perfection. The meal also came with a small appetizer, a nice touch that added to the experience. I paired my meal with a Spa Orange drink, a local product that complemented the dish perfectly. All in all, the prices were reasonable for the quality of food and service. Highly recommend L’Auberge if you’re looking for delicious seafood!

Unless there’s somewhere special I have in mind, I tend to have a habit of patronising the restaurant attached to the accommodation I have booked. At this stage I have only booked a single night in Spa. At dinner I notice there are no ashtrays on the tables. I ask if this is a smoke free restaurant. The waiter tells me that at the moment no one is smoking, but they are allowed to smoke if they wish. I ask if I can move if someone starts smoking. No! Once you sit down, you cannot move. {emphasis on the full stop} Okay, so I’m paying over $100 for dinner and if some inconsiderate wants to smoke and ruin my night, then I have to just suck it all up. |After that conversation, the waiter now serves me without eye contact. The food is placed on the table, he utters something in French and briskly walks away. There is no explanation as to what is in the soup of the day. The table next to me appears to have ordered soup of the day as well, but it is a completely different colour. So did I get yesterday’s leftovers. To those who speak French he jokes and smiles – the ultimate shmoozer. |In the French part of Belgium, no one seems to speak English. Not an issue – it’s their country – but the change from the Dutch part to the French part is interesting. I am now looked down upon for not speaking their local language. I get the whole language thing, but as an Australian coming to Europe for a couple of months, am I really expected to learn 5 or 6 differnt languages to make everyone happy.|As to the waiter; his shoes are cheap; his pants are too long as he can’t be bothered taking them up and they are sliding down under his pot belly since he’s not wearing a belt. Yet somewhere in his mind he is above me in status without knowing a single thing about me. |After both waiters ignore me for ages, he finally comes to collect my glass. He looks at me with raised eyebrows. There is no verbalised question as to whether I would like another glass of wine, more a disdainful look – he will not lower himself to utter words to someone less than himself. I request another glass and ask if it could be in a bigger glass, explaining that Pinot Noir needs to breathe – I was initially served a much smaller glass than every other table. Hmmpph. Okay|He placed the glass on my table and walked away as quickly as he could with no eye contact. I raised my palms to the sky in exasperation as he walked away. He approached me a few minutes later and told me that his fellow waitress had claimed I was still asking him a question when he walked away. I explained why I felt aggrieved and he told me that he was sorry I had interpreted things this way. |After dinner I walk across the square to anothet hotel who gives me an air conditioned room for 10% less for the following night. |

The food and service was very good! We had one vegetarian in our group. I think the restaurant could offer more, and more creative and interesting vegetarian options on their menu. I also wish they would offer a 3-course menu for two or more people at a table, even if one or two do not participate.

Only stayed one night. Friendly staff, everyone seemed to be OK with English. The hotel is well furnished and our room was spacious, well furnished and decorated in a modern style. Convenient central location. The restaurant is first class, classic service, very correct. Exciting menu, classic dishes, strong on fish, food very well prepared and presented. Very interesting wine list with a nice selection of half-bottles. Breakfast classic European, buffet style, nice choice . Good value for the quality. Recommended.

A really nice hotel in a great design with friendly staff. The chambers are really nice with a great look over the central plaza of Spa. The food at the restaurant is delicious albeit pricy. You can get reductions for the entrance to the wellness , or a free €10-card for the casino. Overall we were very pleased!

Modern rooms of a good size, but unfortunately just one power outlet near te bed. No air conditioning, so you either have to open a window and suffer from a noisy street, or accept the heat during summer months. The price is good, and if you want to be in Spa propper the location is excellent. Parking can be an issue though.

Cozy little hotel, in the middle of Spa. Excellent location if you are headed for the spa, just across the road from the funicular. Dinner and breakfast was good and decently priced. Staff is helpful and friendly. ||||Unfortunately there was no air conditioning and the room was really hot, even though the weather was not super hot. And the road adds quite a bit of noise during the night. ||||Could definitely come back during the winter!

We ate for two nights at the Auberge de Spa while staying at the Villa des Fleurs just around the corner. The meals were included in our package, as was the wine, water and coffee. The food was amazing (especially as it was a set menu), as was the wine (supplied by a local wine specialist). I thoroughly recommend this traditional brasserie-style restaurant.
