L'Écailler du Palais Royal

"L'Écailler is a Brussels institution. The turquoise tiles behind the long bar, the wonderful woodwork, the gorgeous carpets and the nostalgic charm of this building make for an irresistibly inviting setting. A champion of classic cuisine, the chef excels in preparing fish and seafood dishes, but during the hunting season, his game specialities are also not to be missed. Briny oysters, the aromatic bouillabaisse, his inimitable sole meunière… Fans of traditional fare will feel right at home." - Michelin Inspector

We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant in Brussels. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive. The seafood dishes were absolutely delicious — everything was fresh and full of flavor. We ended up eating way more than we planned because it was all just too good to resist! The prices are on the higher side, but given the quality of the food and the overall experience, it’s definitely worth it.

On the occasion of a business meeting we visited this restaurant for dinner with a party of 14 persons. The staff was very attending but in no way obtrusive. We had a course menu, and the food was really delicious - from starters to dessert. I hope that we might go there next year as well! Thank you so much for your hospitality...

This is a classic restaurant with long history. The ambiance is a mix of vintage and modern style, which I enjoy a lot. The food is quite fine and the cooking technic is great. The rare is cooked in a very fine way that it is neither undercooked nor hard to chew. For the desserts I recommend the chocolate ones, which is a great mixture of bitterness and sweetness.

Very average restaurant honestly. The food is very underwhelming. Ingredients are fresh but the dishes are very standard and quite bland frankly. There are better options for much cheaper. And at a similar price, you can of course get experiences of a whole other level. Quite surprised it is a Michelin one. Nice staff though.

Google
Top notch dining experience. I don’t know that I would change a thing, only one question / observation. To start: 1) Excellent service. The staff is extremely proactive and takes the lead with everything. I was very impressed by the staff. Our waitresses did not steer us wrong. Margot helped us in a very graceful manner by answering all of our questions about the different dishes to be able to select our choices and allowed us tastings of a few wines to select our beverages too. 2) Loved the food- everything from the bread to the complimentary starter to our appetizer and our mains. The sea bass tartare part of the complimentary starter was exquisite. The balance of flavors with the textures including the fish was delicious. My boyfriend tried deer for the first time as a main and thought it was excellent meat. I tried the stuffed dover sole with crab meat and loved it. First time eating Dover sole - paired with the crab meat was even better. The plate and food was served hot which I also appreciated as it’s not always the case. 3) Ambiance - excellent - including the music. I found myself enjoying the music. It also feels cozy for a fine dining establishment. Sometimes for me, fine dining can feel stuffing. This place, not at all. My only comment- really a question- I wondered about the mashed potato and why that was chosen to be served with the stuffed Dover sole. It’s really a question for the chef- I’m sure there is a reason. I expected a sautéed green. Nonetheless I was pleasantly surprised to find it worked with the Dover sole. We look forward to coming back next time we have a chance in Brussels.

Everything is so great, from the food to the service. Certainly it isn’t an average restaurant so the price matches the quality of ingredients and the efforts that the chef put into the plate. Surprisingly for such a high-end restaurant, the quantity was very generous. I had the best lobster raviolis of my life here. I do hope places like that will continue to exist. You can truly feel a difference when a real, experienced chef took the right time and dedication to cook for you. They also put some fusion touches in the menu, which is just enough to introduce new flavors without destroying the finesse of sophisticated French cuisine.

Excellent experience, i tried several michelin star in Brussels and this one stands out. Exemplary attention from the staff, infinite patience with my french and my questions, fast and serious. Tried the cod with eggplant caviar... recomend clearly. The prices acording to the place, i have paid more for worst product and attention , so definitely worth the try, i ll return.

Pluses: very friendly service, nice style of interior, you feel nice there. Neutral: main course was fried sea bream with seasonal vegetables. It was fine but not smth interesting. Fish was a bit undercooked for my taste, but not a big deal. Dessert was the best dish out of all. It was not heavy as it might seem. But again lack of flavours, instead of chocolate ice cream they could add more pears or other fruits. Minuses: two starters were awful. First was Hering with tomato and green beans. Hering was with small bones, a tail and pieces of scale. Tomato was plastic like from a cheap supermarket. It was not to pleasant eat at all. I had to return a dish after two bites. Second starter was white fish with red paper sauce and eggplant caviar. Better than the first one but taste was not balanced, fish was overcooked. In addition, bread was hard as stone. Overall impression - the menu was not a good value, surprised that this restaurant is included in the Michelin Guide. Hope their dinner menu is much better.

Yelp
The food here was very good. The staff is friendly but at times a little bit pushy/not relaxed. It's a quaint restaurant with a lovely setting. I had a Jewfish that was lovely. Great spot if you are in the area!

Yelp
Overpriced for what you get, but service is great, food is though not as extraordinary as one would expect for the price.

Yelp
Extraordinary. Classical Belgian seafood in a beautiful historical setting. Excellent food, attentive service, and a nice wine list. Expensive but worth it.
