Culture + Co. - Gastro Obscura

"In 1958, the first conveyor-belt sushi restaurant opened in Japan. While the concept spread far beyond Japan, most conveyor-belt eateries still focus on sushi. But at Culture and Co. in Nashville, the small plates that pass by seated diners are filled with elegant arrangements of cheese and charcuterie instead. While London is home to the first cheese conveyor-belt eatery (Pick & Cheese in Covent Garden), Culture and Co. is the first stateside example. Opened in 2020 by a mother-and-daughter duo, the restaurant is located in the middle of a food hall. Diners sit on stools at a counter, while two conveyor belts carry plates of cheese and other snacks back and forth. The way it works should be familiar to any sushi aficionado. Diners pick out appealing-looking plates as they pass by, with prices tallied up at the end of the meal. There’s also a menu so that people know what’s on each plate, along with detailed tasting notes and the origins of each cheese. Each plate is composed like a tiny charcuterie board, with an extra item or two that compliments the cheese. A plate of hot-honey goat cheese, for example, comes with a ramekin of smoked honey and pickles as a palate cleanser. A serving of salami, on the other hand, might arrive with a dab of fennel honey butter. There is even vegan cheese and charcuterie available, with options like seitan salami and milk-free gouda. Know Before You Go Culture + Co. is located within the L & L Market food hall." - Anne Ewbank, breaingram

Milkshakes, Coffee, and More Coming Soon to West Nashville’s New L&L Marketplace | Eater Nashville

"I discovered the L & L Marketplace, owned by longtime owner Tamay Ozari, is housed in the historic Se-Ling Hosiery Building near Sylvan Heights at 3814 Charlotte Avenue; the food hall is about two years overdue after initial announcements in January 2016 and is planned to include fast-casual restaurants, an anchor brewery, shops, and office space." - Delia Jo Ramsey

I used to like to pop in here as a good meeting spot in west Nashville with a variety of choices from coffee to sweets, and I love the Made in TN shop for gifts. The parking has gotten worse, and I was recently charged despite following instructions. After the inaccesible system that caused the error and lack of accountability, I'll likely avoid the market in future. I've now had a back and forth email conversation with the parking company. While my charge was refunded, the process they describe is not listed on parking signage which is why there are multiple people with the same complaint in these reviews.

Karen E.

Google
My husband and I went yesterday. The parking was so confusing. We parked and the sign said free parking up to 3 hours but when we scanned the QR codes it said $22 for 2hrs. Then it said they scan license plates so we decided to park in the street. Why is parking paid? It's a small shopping center so why is this even a requirement? It was quite frustrating. Eventually we went in and noticed it felt very millenial industrial style but still cute with the plants. Not really our vibe since it seemed kind of touristy. They had a sports bar, popcorn store, few restaurants and boutique stores. Overall cute but definitely they need to rethink their parking situation just seems like a money grabbing scam as it's not in a popular place like downtown.

Google
L and L Market was Awesome! Lots of boutiques and kids stores! Plus you have Five Daughters Bakery with Delicious donuts and Penne Pazze. That Italian food is sooooo good I got Carbonara Pasta and Meatball breadbowl... it was all great and fresh!

Google
It's like a mini Franklin Factory! Beautifully done warehouse filled with a collection of shops ranging from reasonably priced to more high end goods. Plus perfectly curated restaurants. They were very intentional with this space. Honest Coffee Roasters is always great for a latte while browsing the shops and Culture & Co was so unique and delicious. I wanted to try the Thai place too...next time.

Google
Fun place to come and explore! Eateries, yoga studio and much more….

Google
A very special place, most shops here are local brand, customized made product, so special, worthy to tour, food court here is good taste, special Thai food, veggie Tacos worthy to try, healthy and tasty. There is other female club membership, quiet silence place you can sit and read or gather with female friends together.

Nom Nom N.

Google
Factory-esq but not owned by the same owner. Lots of neat shops with lots of places to sit and hang out. Definitely recommend for something relaxing to do, a place to get good eats, and options for great gift ideas.

Jordan L.

Google
This is a nice little public market. Parking is validated for up to 3 hours if you shop inside. This is a fun place for a group that can't decide where to eat.

Yelp
There are shopping centers, there are malls, there are food courts, and then there is the L&L Marketplace... Doesn't matter if you want a shopping center, the mall, gift shop, restaurant and wine bar, clothes, a beauty salon, or a store selling leather vests with embossed roses and leopard print, it's here.

Yelp
This was a great find. The perfect spot to do so shopping around and grab lunch with a group. Lot's of food options so everyone can do their own thing or you can just sit at Culture and Co like I did and eat conveyor belt charcuterie all day. Some places were closed because it was new years time but there was still plenty for us to do. I loved the chairs at Mayasa and am seriously considering ordering one (after saving up a bit). Definitely a fun atmosphere giving us something fun to do and have lunch on a cold day before heading to the airport that evening.

Yelp
L&L Marketplace is a trendy and vibrant destination that offers a fantastic dining and shopping experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the bustling atmosphere and the variety of offerings available. One of the highlights of L&L Marketplace is undoubtedly the array of great places to eat. The food options are diverse and delicious, catering to various tastes and dietary preferences. Beyond the culinary delights, L&L Marketplace also boasts a selection of unique shops. From trendy boutiques to artisanal craft stores, there is something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a fashion statement piece or a one-of-a-kind gift, you're sure to find it here. The marketplace creates a vibrant and lively atmosphere, making it a pleasure to browse and explore the different stores. I will note that L&L Marketplace can get quite busy in the evenings, which is a testament to its popularity. While the crowds may create a slightly bustling atmosphere, it also adds to the overall energy and excitement of the place. If you prefer a quieter experience, visiting during off-peak hours might be a good idea.

Yelp
Visited Apr 29, 2023. I stumbled upon this place when looking for places to eat in Nashville. This venue in general is pretty hip. I like that there is a private lot in the back. If I'm not mistaken, the parking is free. The entrance is handy-cap friendly with a small door button on the side (it can be hard to spot) along with public restrooms separated by gender. The ambiance is like any food hall you'll come across plus local retail boutiques. Inside the ceilings are exposed with hanging lights & lots of seating, a fun industrial look! Today was a quick visit and spotted so many cool knick knacks! Definitely coming back to explore, hang and eat!

Yelp
I loved this place!! We ended up here because we had a reservation for culture & co. A conveyor belt charcuterie place. Very neat concept. Anyway there are adorable boutiques and delicious eateries and treat shops in here! A definite treasure!!
google avatar

Ashley U.

Yelp
Such a cool place!! They have multiple food and shopping options and salon services as well. Only downfall was parking was limited on the Saturday we went but that's to be expected at lunch time on a Saturday in Nashville. We will be back to check out more of the shops and food!

Yelp
Five stars?? For a fella with two wild kids the convenience of hanging out while shopping, snacking, and sipping all under one roof that's NOT a huge mall is awesome. This is not an all day hang more like a few hours tops, unless you bring your laptop to get some work done at sip some coffee at the Honest Coffee Roasters. Beyond coffee, there's a decent variety of food options permeating these halls like tacos, thai food, italian eats, a brewery, milkshake and of course boozy libations. Penne Pazze, the italian food restaurant is off the hook! Just saying. Not just food L&L also offers fitness classes, a hair salon, a few clothing spots and the even adorable flower shop. The parking situation is a little crazy, but you'll find extra parking in the back with an overflow lot just behind that. Heads up, the yoga studio here is crazy busy and when class starts the parking is packed! This is definitely a three-peat visit for me and next trip will have me neck deep in fruity Rosé from Culture + Co.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this shopping/food hall combo. I went with friends and opted to eat from the Thai place. The noodles were amazing and I love that each dinning experience is unique! I felt like I was in a small street of Thailand eating my food. The shopping is just as great. There's various places between clothes, households, and quirky items. I want to go back and try culture and co. As well.

Yelp
Great space, found parking, lots of seating and different shops. Great place to meet up with people. (Cashier at the coffee shop was a little rude, not sure what that was about.)

Yelp
This is an absolute Nashville tourist trap. I was excited to check it out for the first time today. First impression was great. It got all the Nashville decorations including string lights on the ceiling, expose brick walls, Nashville signs on the wall, etc.. The inside was spacious. Lots of Seating. However, the frustration came when I quickly find out how outrageous the prices were at each vendors. Everything seems to be about money. You want water after spending money for food at the Thai restaurant? Sorry no cup waters they only have bottled water for purchase. You want Wi-Fi? Sorry, they had an Internet named L&L market guest. However, It was password protected and nobody knows the password. So what's the point. A conveyer belt wine and cheese will set you back around $70 for 2. A small bag of popcorn cost $10. A wooden chair costs $1500+. It's cool to walk around but expect to pay downtown Nashville tourist trap prices.

Yelp
What a great little hall. There are plenty of great businesses here to support. A coffee shop, restaurants, shops, a salon, and a gym. Something for everything. This is a great place to work or study, with great seating available, and free parking out front.

Yelp
I've been meaning to stop by and check this place out for a few weeks now. Today was the day. It reminds me of the indoor portion of the German town farmers market. Lots of cute shops full of clothes and Knick knacks. A great destination for holiday shopping. There is a milkshake place, a brewery, a coffee shop, a cheese and wine option and an Italian restaurant to explore if you're hungry. All in all a nice place for a socially distanced stroll and indoor people watching.

Gabrielle P.

Yelp
A very cool spot for shop and get some food. Was able to get some coffee and sit for a while to chill.

Yelp
For those of us who have lived in Nashville for decades and enjoy gourmet cooking, we'll always miss the original L&L restaurant supply warehouse that once occupied this voluminous building. Unfortunately, there is nothing comparable that sells kitchen gadgets and heavy duty cooking supplies in Nashville now. However, if this prime retail space not far from downtown had to be renovated to keep up with the modern Nashville vibe, L&L Market is an impressive use of the once cavernous building, now bright and modern and beautiful. To pull off such a transformation, you must have good food anchoring the space. Patrons will shop for a few minutes, but diners will stay much longer and impact all businesses positively. And L&L brought their A game on the food! Gracie's Milk Shake Bar has the best milkshakes in town. Penne Pazze will rival just about any Italian establishment in Nashville. Thai Ni Yam serves fantastic Asian dishes. And Five Daughters simply has the best cronuts on the planet! Marigold Gourmet Popcorn and Made in TN also offer some very tasty snacks. All of these are garnering insanely high ratings from locals, so they were very good choices.
google avatar

Anita M.

Yelp
I've been patiently waiting for L&L marketplace to open since I've moved here in March and I have to say it did not disappoint. The developers have done a great job gutting the space and creating a nice and open /airy mini mall inside. You can see that there are a handful of empty spots to be filled -about 80% of the place is occupied with businesses of all kinds. To name a few highlights- cycle bar, flower shop, hot yoga, popcorn, spice shop, milkshake bar, 5daughters, made in TN, spa and also a hair salon are fully up and running. I'm excited to see the rest of the spots fill up and hopefully a few more food options will pop up as well. Overall this new spot is reminiscent of The Factory in Franklin and has lots of potential!

Yelp
A must check out spot in Nashville. There's so many cute shops and places to eat. Taco Chela had amazing tacos and drinks. My only complaint is on Sundays most things are closed.

Vicky S.

Yelp
Several of the stores were closed on a Tuesday and there were limited options at the restaurants I had seen advertisement and thought it was a much bigger shopping area
google avatar

Sherry Y.

Yelp
I absolutely adore L&L. Not only can you enjoy a beer pub with live music, Thai food, and a soon-to-come charcuterie/wine bar, there's dessert to spare. Five Daughters hosts a location here for delectable thousand layer donuts, and Gracie's Milkshake Bar is simply not to miss. The design of everything is impeccable as well. The contemporary industrial building has amazing windows and lighting so that your dining experience feels less mall and more luxury. I especially love coming here at sunset to enjoy a milkshake with the warm light streaming in through the windows. There are so many other hidden gems here, including several boutiques, a cafe, a hairstyling studio, and Cycle Bar. I'm sure L&L is always going to be bustling because there's always so much going on here. Make sure you make a night of it with a milkshake, Thai food, and perhaps a karaoke round at the bar downstairs.

Nina C.

Yelp
I live nearby and have always loved the building this is in--an old, Victorian era brick warehouse with gorgeous, huge windows. The neighborhood has been watching the renovation and eagerly waiting to see just what it would become. Construction isn't finished all the way, yet, but it is partially open. It's like a little mall of small boutiques. Most of the building has been subdivided into retail spaces, with interior walls of windows so the light still streams all the way through and very attractive central corridor. The stores that have opened so far are all things like highly curated decor or clothing stores, a specialty spice shop, gift boutique, etc. At one end a high-end food court of gourmet options is going in.

Cya Z.

Yelp
Ok place. Very limited number of retail stores to choose from during this trip.

Yelp
This place is such a great place to shop, eat, and be pampered! You will find a variety of shops from boutiques, spices, home decor, and much more. There are salons and fitness studios for those wanting to look their best and all the goodies for the foodies in the world. Finally we found a cute breweries for the guys to hang out while their lady is treating herself! We loved the variety and atmosphere that L&L Marketplace had and raved about it to our friends and family!

Dustin A.

Yelp
Taco Chela was sooo good we got the taco sampler and the sunshine margarita. Bomb!! Super friendly staff and even though they were busy the wait wasn't too long. We will be back

Yelp
Great place to shop! Also, the dining choices are exceptional!! Very welcoming and peaceful environment.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little place to walk around, but very small. Can leisurely stroll the whole thing in less than an hour. Great place to get donuts inside and if you like overpriced coffee there is also a good place to indulge.
google avatar

Rabbi Howard G.

Yelp
This is a very unique no frills place. 1st -their practices seem totally in line with cdc guidelines in this covid-19 era. The prices are very reasonable if not extreme bargains. AS LONG AS you don't plan on putting things in a shelf for a long time. They seem to have a niche in buying items expiring with 6 most to a year, but I bought a lot of things that I know I'll use quickly and everything was great - nothing stale 99 cents for Kashi?
google avatar

Kylie S.

Yelp
This place is so great. There's such a variety of places to visit and the parking is plentiful! Enjoy some shopping while you eat your doughnut and sip a coffee... after you've worked your butt off in a Cyclebar workout. It's everything you need in a very trendy space! I can't wait for it to keep evolving. I'll keep visiting with I'm in Nashville.

Yelp
Back in the day I was a West sider and often drove by this large restaurant supply store which quickly became vacant. I remember thinking "it's a shame that this really cool building isn't being used for something like a marketplace or condos." Luckily my musings came to life with L&L Marketplace! They recently gutted the place and have slowly begun opening stores. I stopped in the week of Thanksgiving and there were a decent amount of retailers but still a good amount of construction going on as well as you can see from my photos. Unfortunately the only food option was a milkshake spot, but they were also working on a Thai restaurant right in the main entrance. I will be back for that because Thai food is one of my favorites! I stopped a few shops including a spice store, a local Nashville shop with various treats, apparel, and Nashville based products. Also, local blogger "Living with Landyn" also has a cute store with clothing, gifts, and home goods. Amongst the clothing stores and shops they also have a Cycle Bar, popcorn store, and various other retail spots with plenty of room to add more! I can't wait to come back when they are at full capacity!

Yelp
Wow!!!!! Such a joy to visit L&L Marketplace while in town last weekend. I highly recommend checking out Amelia's Flowers, the Spice Shop, and grabbing a GIANT milkshake and/or donut while you're here.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Cute shops, but an Instagram tick toc popular places. The taco place and milkshake place poor customer service and nothing to rave about. The revolving tapas- rarely open the 2 days we stopped by.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a beautiful place! If you want an upgraded cool vibe to hang out for a while this is the place to go!

Yelp
L&L Marketplace is a great addition to Charlotte Ave.! While not huge, this market has a lot of great shops, restaurants, and bars! Hungry? The market offers baked goods (Five Daughters Bakery), milkshakes (Gracie's Milkshake Bar), Thai food (Thai Ni Yom), and more! Thirsty? How about beers from Bold Patriot Brewing Company or coffee from Honest Coffee Roasters? The market also has several small retail shops (including Amelia's Flowers - you don't have to find the flower truck out and about now unless you want to!) and salons and other businesses (a hot yoga studio and a cycle studio)! There's parking around the perimeter of the building. Bathrooms were easy to find - large and clean as well. The market is open, bright, modern. There is a partially covered area you can eat or drink at outside or you can find seating inside the market to enjoy any of your foods/drinks! This market is fun to explore and is a great way to support some local businesses! During COVID times, the market wasn't crowded on a Monday evening, and everyone inside wore masks when not seated at a table. Definitely check if out if you haven't already!

Yelp
This is a fun spot with lots of variety! First, grab a 100 layer donut from the bakery, get a delicious cup of coffee and stroll the beautiful shops browsing. Having many businesses under one roof offers an enjoyable experience with many options!

Gary F.

Yelp
Was just checking out the place. Didn't eat or shop. Place looks very appealing. I'll be back.
