We returned to L2 to try their date night special after attending one of their prior promotional events and loving it. I would definitely say this place is worth stopping but there's some clear improvements that could be made to make this a true 5/5. I think a large part of the reason our experience wasn't great was because the place was extremely busy so know everything I'm saying comes with complete understanding and respect for the difficulties of working in the restaurant industry. We waited at the front entrance for about 15-20 minutes before a host approached us and asked if we'd like to be put on the waitlist for the next table - a bit long of a wait without any sort of greeting but the host was friendly and again, they were full. We left our name and number and were quoted a 30-45 minute wait so decide to walk around the block and explore the area. We got a table at around the 15 minute mark and returned which was exciting. Our table was in the middle of the main dining room which features tables to the side of their bar. The place isn't huge so it was a bit cramped and noisy but we didn't mind as we were out for a casual evening. We had to wait an uncomfortable amount of time for a server (over 15 minutes) so we ordered our food and drinks all at once as we had already decided. Our server did not greet us, explain any specials, offer any upselling, or seem friendly in any way honestly which was disappointing as I recognized him from the last time I had been in and he was much kinder the last time. Totally understandable to be stressed when you're overworked and overwhelmed but it was a very unpleasant conversation with that server and we were so surprised because the man working as a host was so friendly and was doing a great job assisting our server by running out items and busing tables. The host was honestly the highlight of the staff and I so wish we got the opportunity to have him as our main server instead. Our cocktails took over 15 minutes to all arrive at the table as they arrived disjointed. We had ordered three craft cocktails and a beer and it arrived as one solo cocktail, one solo cocktail, and then the last cocktail and beer together with many minutes in between each round. This isn't the end of the world but it makes customers more aware of the wait time if they aren't all brought out together, and if staggered pacing is needed, the beer should've been brought out with the first round as it is the quickest make. Additionally, we ordered a total of 5 dishes to share as they menu has more of a small plates feel and not a single dish came out together. We had to wait awhile inbetween finishing one plate before the next plate came out even though we asked for them to be sent all together. Additionally, one item delivered to our table was incorrect and one of our items never showed. Throughout our experience we never had anyone ask how our drinks or food were (the drinks were great, the food was good - a lot of it came out cold and we found the size of the ube fries to be disappointingly small) and we were never able to order a second round of drinks as the host brought the majority of our food items out to us instead of our server. We asked him if we could order another round of drinks and he promised to send our server back over but our server did not return for another 10 minutes. At this point we had been there over an hour and a half on only our first drink and no promise of our last food item returning so I asked the host (again, the only consistently available and friendly staff member - big thanks to him, he was wearing a Timberwolves sweatshirt and is a large reason I am reviewing as kindly as I can) if our last menu item was on the way and if it wasn't if we could just close out. He checked in the kitchen, apologized and talked with us (so kind) and helped us close our tab. I think this concept as a place is great, the ambiance is beautiful, and the menu has great potential (the drinks are really great already!). I would love to see more staffing on for event nights so the staff on aren't as overwhelmed or a reduction in menu items available for the date night special so the kitchen and bar are better able to keep up. This is a place that's new and creative and local and still working out some kinks so go in there ready to be understanding and don't expect a fast in and out cohesive experience yet. I hope for continued improvement and I will return after a few weeks to check in again and hopefully raise my star rating!
