The Best Speakeasies and Hidden Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Wander up to the second story of the former Saint Sabrina’s space on Hennepin Avenue and you’ll find L2 @ Tii Cup, a speakeasy bar pouring dragonfruit mojitos, bloody mango margaritas, and creamy ube cocktails, finishing them with sweet, chewy boba. Even better, there’s a sunny upstairs patio overlooking Hennepin Avenue and a menu of Taiwanese street food (think: popcorn chicken, grilled prawns, noodles bowls, et cetera)." - Natalia Mendez

I love Tii Cup and have been to all their locations. So when it was my birthday, we decided this was it. The atmosphere was nice and quiet. Cute little place. The drinks, shaved ice and shots were great. The food on the other hand was good but too salty, even the eggs in the two braised pork bowls were extra salty. I love the tofu squares but had such a hard time enjoying it. I would recommend to lighten up on the salt, procid a salt shaker on the table and customers can use it if they need more. I still am a Tii Cup fan but I will stick to bubble teas and desserts from now on. Regardless, we had a nice time. Thank you!

Good food, drinks, & vibes! It gets busy so service can get slow. We also order a few items from the menu but after an hour of waiting, we find out they’re out but weren’t communicated ahead of time which was confusing. Overall the space is fun.

So glad this place exists - what a wonderful birthday experience and place to bring a date! L2’s unique cocktails and speakyeasy-esque atmosphere had me quivering in my boots the first time I laid eyes on it. Expect a wait on busy nights. But it’s well worth it for the cocktails alone, not to mention friendly and welcoming staff. With its unique vibes, L2 is welcome sight on Hennepin in Uptown.

My partner and I have gone in at least 4 times already and we love it more each time. The snacks/food they have is super flavorful and great to have with the drinks. We’ve had almost all the drinks on the menu currently and have loved every single one! Kassandra showed us her new drink (Thai Tea Daquiri) which was super dope and delicious, can’t wait for it to be on the menu! All of the staff we’ve interacted with are super sweet, friendly and helpful people. We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some good drinks and bar snacks! It does get busy during the weekend (it is a smaller area to be fair!) so be prepared for that, the wait is definitely worth it!

Google
Fantastic! Not sure why boozy boba isn't more of a thing, given how popular boba is in general. Love the speakeasy vibe. There's outdoor seating too. The menu items have cute pun-ny names and the drinks are great - not decently strong too. The boba balls themselves are supple. There's some Asian style bar-ish food. I think there's like exactly 3 options for vegetarians - the garlic noodles, tofu and beans. Wish they would expand on this more. There's paid street parking, but you do have to walk a little to get here. Not wheelchair friendly. Even Tii Cup below has a set of stairs you need to walk up to reach.

My husband went the other night with a friend, fell in love with it, took me last night and now we have a new favorite. Amazing drinks, delicious food, wonderful service, great vibe. The green curry chicken wings have my heart, can’t pick a favorite drink but maybe the Ube-bae or the Lychee lemondrop are great places to start. Can’t wait to go back and try more!

Google
The shining star of this place is definitely the cocktails, their team is incredibly creative and I have tried something different every time and have yet to try something I didn't like. It can get pretty loud and difficult to hear, I would advise small groups of 1-4 people so that you have a close proximity to each other. I have not had any of the food. I am GF, so my only options are rice or french fries :/. I am not eating food since I haven't had any.

Google
Probably the best find of 2024! This place is the definition of “looks can be deceiving.” The main entrance opens into a boba tea bar that’s warm and cozy. But down the hall and up the stairs, you’ll find the best surprise. L2 comes with a speakeasy vibe, complete with delicious spiked drinks and delectable street food options. 10/10 recommend! Perfect for anything from friends night out to celebrating a special event 🍸

Yelp
This has been on my "to do" list for a while and boy am I glad I finally stopped to L2. There's not much I can say other than it's totally worth the visit. The food at L2 is top notch. Seriously, everything was tasty. Weird recommendation, but get the green beans. It's everything I want in a spicy veggie side. The drinks were also really great - I loved the way the menu listed out options for spirit forward vs. "goes down easy". As somebody who prefers less sweet drinks, I felt so seen! The only downside is it does move a little slow and the space is a little tight. Plan to take your time and enjoy yourself in a cozy environment. Hopefully when it's a little warmer out the outside seating will free up some space - but either way, I'm definitely coming back!

Yelp
If you've never been to L2 Tii Cup you've got some catching up to do!!! This Local Bubble tea shop/speakeasy is one of my favorite places in the cities. To get to the speakeasy go thru the door on the left side of the bubble tea counter. You'll enter a small hall space with a red-lit staircase. Upstairs feels like a chic lounge area in summer there's an outdoor patio. I love the idea of spiked bubble tea! It's the best of both worlds. I've had the Ube-bae, the viet-tini and the mojito, all have been amazing I love the mojito with strawberry popping boba mint and a nice dark rum. The food menu shouldn't be missed! Curry Popcorn chicken is a fav of mine with sticks that makes it feel like a true street food delight! I loved the shrimp and decided to do the upgrade to a bowl which came with rice and pickled vegetables. I also ordered a side of the Thai cilantro aioli. The dishes were so flavorful didn't need it but it's such a delicious addition couldn't help it. Only complaint is the shrimp wasn't cleaned out. Usually I dont order full shrimp with head and legs tho but this was has such a good flavor!! Service was great too and loved all the recommendations we received.

Yelp
We had a great night at this vibey speakesy style bar. The drinks are very creative and the ambiance was great. We went Friday night at 8 and there was about a 20 minute wait, we waited downstairs and they sent a text when our table was ready. I tried the Tom yum II and Ube bae drinks and they were delicious! The service was a little slow but it was busy. We also had the garlic noodles and the spicy calamari. The spicy calamari was really tasty and had the perfect level of spice. The garlic noodles were just normal buttered spaghetti noodles with a garlic taste. they were very yummy but I did wish they were egg noodles and not just regular pasta. highly recommend checking out this really original spot in uptown!!

Yelp
Stopped here after telling a couple friends about it. One thing to note, double check the hours, maybe even call, as we were a little early and had to wait about 20 minutes. After we were able to belly up, everyone seemed pleased with their cocktails. They are different spins on classics and some fun inventive drinks to try as well. I had a passionfruit drink with boba and it was excllent. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I've always loved Tii cup so I was very excited to try their speak easy. The area isn't great for parking cause you basically have to drive around and find street parking. I didnt make reservations, just walked in but it was kind of busy when I went. Staff was super friendly and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. The drinks were a little different than normal cocktails so I definitely asked questions. Ended up getting wings and a few drinks. I enjoyed everything I got there and will definitely be going back to try more of the food!

Yelp
I've been dying to check this place out! It looked even cooler than I expected! Definitely a "speakeasy" vibe. It was busy on a Friday night around 9, but we got a table for 3 in 15 minutes or less! The seats are comfy and the bar looked great to sit at too! The servers were friendly! They did forget a few things for us, but again the place was packed, so I forgive them haha. The drinks were stronger than I expected! Some I wanted to be sweeter haha, but overall the menu is so unique and the drinks did taste good! We had the popcorn chicken too, a must! There's free neighborhood street parking a block or so away. If you see this post before Jan 1 2025 - they have an online gift card sale right now. Get $100 and only pay $65! Prices were reasonable for the ambiance ($10-$16). I will be back with visiting guests!! :)

Yelp
The food and drinks were awesome! I was very pleased with the amount of food it was seasoned perfectly. My only regret was not ordering more after to have for lunch the next day. Perfect date night spot or quality time with the bestie !

Yelp
This spot should be the top of the list for those of you looking for your next Happy Hour spot in Uptown! Parking is really tough because of current construction, but street parking available on nearby streets. The space itself is well decorated, has an awesome patio during the warmer months, and plenty of tables for different sized groups! Our server was attentive and quick to deliver our drinks as they were ready! I struggled to decide what to have because all of the menu options look amazing! They have traditional cocktails with a spin or "out of this world" cocktails for the more adventurous types! I had the Old Fashioned, which came with a side of boba pearls that I could toss in and enjoy! It was delightful and I would order again...once I made it through the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Very low-key spot to have a drink and I love the setting and ambiance of the second floor. It is very great to come/chill or date night. Customer service was attentive and quick, they were very welcoming and friendly. Drinks hit the spot on a Friday night. The Lychee Lemondrop was delicious and love the popping boba in it.

Yelp
We walked through the downstairs unsure what kind of cocktail bar we were going to uncover upstairs but it was super cute and classy. The Ube-bae was very strong and rum-my. If you like the flavor of dark rum you'll like it. There was a whisky coffee drink that was also quite strong. Those 2 drinks definitely didn't belong on the "goes down easy" side of the menu. The Viet '75 was lighter and had boba balls at the bottom.

Yelp
I believe it was a Friday or Saturday night? I was pretty bored so me and my friends decided to grab some drinks nearby. I don't think I've ever had alcoholic boba like this and I'm from California but I thought the combination of the drinks were pretty well made. The service was good and who would've thought an old fashioned with boba would taste that amazing.

Yelp
Got to experience going to l2 tii cup last night, I met two different friend groups there. We first sat on the patio which is super specious and gorgeous. I ordered the tom yumii which was super delicious and bubbly and a twist on Tom yum soup. We got the crispy pop corn chicken and the garlic noodles which are a fantastic combo and great for sharing. Later on I ordered the vietcotini which just might be the best expresso martini. We ordered taro fries and the Thai green chili wings which were so delicious. We had great service and the staff were super friendly! :) Can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Checked out this bubble tea cafe with a speakeasy bar upstairs. Hennepin avenue had construction, we had to take a detour and park in the neighborhood couple blocks away. Once we entered we were greeted by a girl behind the counter. We asked how to get to the bar, she pointed to the stairs on the side wall. Red and dark staircase that leads upstairs to the bar. We were also greeted by another server. Cute bar with creative cocktail list. Food is also available, they're all appetizers. Would definitely come back with some more friends.

Yelp
We returned to L2 to try their date night special after attending one of their prior promotional events and loving it. I would definitely say this place is worth stopping but there's some clear improvements that could be made to make this a true 5/5. I think a large part of the reason our experience wasn't great was because the place was extremely busy so know everything I'm saying comes with complete understanding and respect for the difficulties of working in the restaurant industry. We waited at the front entrance for about 15-20 minutes before a host approached us and asked if we'd like to be put on the waitlist for the next table - a bit long of a wait without any sort of greeting but the host was friendly and again, they were full. We left our name and number and were quoted a 30-45 minute wait so decide to walk around the block and explore the area. We got a table at around the 15 minute mark and returned which was exciting. Our table was in the middle of the main dining room which features tables to the side of their bar. The place isn't huge so it was a bit cramped and noisy but we didn't mind as we were out for a casual evening. We had to wait an uncomfortable amount of time for a server (over 15 minutes) so we ordered our food and drinks all at once as we had already decided. Our server did not greet us, explain any specials, offer any upselling, or seem friendly in any way honestly which was disappointing as I recognized him from the last time I had been in and he was much kinder the last time. Totally understandable to be stressed when you're overworked and overwhelmed but it was a very unpleasant conversation with that server and we were so surprised because the man working as a host was so friendly and was doing a great job assisting our server by running out items and busing tables. The host was honestly the highlight of the staff and I so wish we got the opportunity to have him as our main server instead. Our cocktails took over 15 minutes to all arrive at the table as they arrived disjointed. We had ordered three craft cocktails and a beer and it arrived as one solo cocktail, one solo cocktail, and then the last cocktail and beer together with many minutes in between each round. This isn't the end of the world but it makes customers more aware of the wait time if they aren't all brought out together, and if staggered pacing is needed, the beer should've been brought out with the first round as it is the quickest make. Additionally, we ordered a total of 5 dishes to share as they menu has more of a small plates feel and not a single dish came out together. We had to wait awhile inbetween finishing one plate before the next plate came out even though we asked for them to be sent all together. Additionally, one item delivered to our table was incorrect and one of our items never showed. Throughout our experience we never had anyone ask how our drinks or food were (the drinks were great, the food was good - a lot of it came out cold and we found the size of the ube fries to be disappointingly small) and we were never able to order a second round of drinks as the host brought the majority of our food items out to us instead of our server. We asked him if we could order another round of drinks and he promised to send our server back over but our server did not return for another 10 minutes. At this point we had been there over an hour and a half on only our first drink and no promise of our last food item returning so I asked the host (again, the only consistently available and friendly staff member - big thanks to him, he was wearing a Timberwolves sweatshirt and is a large reason I am reviewing as kindly as I can) if our last menu item was on the way and if it wasn't if we could just close out. He checked in the kitchen, apologized and talked with us (so kind) and helped us close our tab. I think this concept as a place is great, the ambiance is beautiful, and the menu has great potential (the drinks are really great already!). I would love to see more staffing on for event nights so the staff on aren't as overwhelmed or a reduction in menu items available for the date night special so the kitchen and bar are better able to keep up. This is a place that's new and creative and local and still working out some kinks so go in there ready to be understanding and don't expect a fast in and out cohesive experience yet. I hope for continued improvement and I will return after a few weeks to check in again and hopefully raise my star rating!

Yelp
Loved L2! However there were a couple of things that could improve. We had the unfortunate experience of terrible parking options. There is construction right in front of L2 and all over uptown, limiting access and making it hard to get to the place. My uber had to leave me a few streets down. This spot has cute decor and is a super cozy place with a patio area, and although it was busy there was still enough room to be comfortable. The drink menu is amazing, I tried 4 drinks and paid about $45 which isn't bad in my experience. Didn't have a chance to try any of the food as we got there at 930 and the kitchen was taking last calls, but they did have some appealing options. The drinks were delicious, I'm usually not a fan of mojitos but theirs was perfect. One thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was the fact that it was super hot in here! Even with the drinks it was an uncomfortable temperature, it wasn't that hot outside but the inside felt hot/humid and the patio seating was full.

Yelp
I was beyond excited when I saw this place was opening. We don't have anything like this in MN!! I used to work at Tii cup in burnsville so I am very familiar with their menu and I thought they aced it with intertwining the bar and their original bubble tea shop! The bar is on the second floor of the new Tii Cup in uptown and it's a little hidden! Gives a cute little speakeasy vibe. The upstairs is BEAUTIFULLY decorated! It feels so modern and sleek. They also have a cute little patio that I haven't gotten to sit on yet but can't wait to in the future. We came the day after it opened and it wasn't crazy busy and the bartender/owner of the bar aspect, was super cool and nice. We got the Ube Bae rum drink and it was a 10/10 for me. Not overly alcoholic tasting but definitely still tastes like a cocktail. I had to resist drinking it all too quickly lol. I also got their take on the espresso martini and it was delish! I would say a 9/10. Good coffee flavor and a great level of sweetness. My boyfriend got the mango marg and he loved it! I DESPISE tequila and even I thought it tasted great. He also got the old fashioned and it came with a cute side of boba! The boba was a nice little treat and my boyfriend said his drink was super smooth and delicious. We came back AS SOON AS POSSIBLE with our friends (literally less than a week later)! We got the tom yum drink and I ordered two because I loved it so so much. Super refreshing! 10/10 We also got the gin lychee lemon drop and it was very nice. It tasted like soap but like... great tasting soap lol! 8/10 Last thing we got was the dragon fruit mojito and while it was my least favorite it was still great! I think pretty much every drink they have is a great choice and I love the way they're presented! We got every flavor of the popcorn chicken and it was SO GOOD! Curry and spicy were our top picks. The service was quite slow but it was very busy and they also just opened so I didn't mind at all. The quality of the drinks and how amazing they were makes up for it completely! I recommend 100%. I want to bring all of my friends and family here to try it!

Yelp
What a fun take on cocktails and boba tea! L2 at too cup offers a variety of boba tea inspired cocktails (that you can add actual boba to) and a few appetizers. We got the Ube-bae and dragon fruit mojito with lychee boba. The dragon fruit mojito was light and refreshing and paired well with the lychee boba. The Ube-bae tasted a little boozy for my liking. Both drinks were BEAUTIFUL!! We also got taro fries with Ube sauce and they were really good! I was not expecting the Ube sauce to be sweet, but the pairing worked! L2 definitely brings the vibes! The inside is cute and they have a rooftop patio area that overlooks Hennepin. This is a great date spot! I highly recommend trying this place

Yelp
Amazing new hidden cocktail bar in uptown that mixes boba and crafted cocktails into a new experience. Pros: A great menu of different drinks, each having a different take on a cocktail inspired by a popular boba drink. Space is beautiful and has a nice upper floor cozy vibe. Drinks are amazingly priced and all tasted very good and contain a good ammount of alcohol. I have had cocktails that are 6$ more expensive that have had less going on all around. The street food that comes with the cocktail bar is super fun and unique for Minnesota. It made me realize that a lot of that street food is better when we can sit down with drinks and eat it rather than just being To go food. All cocktails I tried I enjoyed and would have again. My favorite was probably the Tom Yim-ii and the one that surprised me the most was the Thai tea Negroni, much better than expected. Service was amazing and visited our table often. --- Cons: - seating for above 6 is limited Overall: great cocktail bar that fulfills a new niche that Minnesota needed. Highly recommend checking out!

Yelp
Enjoyed the ube bae! Fun speakeasy type boba bar. The first and only one that I have heard of, but they nailed the concept.

Yelp
Cannnt go wrong with any drink here. Prices are GREAT for the area and the whole concept is extremely well done. A+++

Yelp
Visited MN this weekend and was blown away by the drinks and snacks at this cute boba place! Tii Cup old fashioned and Taipei Manhattan are must tries. Also got the popcorn chicken and fried tofu and they were even better than street food I've had in Taipei!! Really nice seating areas and the staff were super friendly. Will definitely come back when I'm in MN again :)

Yelp
Amazing experience with Suda (sp?) and their team recently at L2 at Tii Cup. Located above Tii Cup, they have an outstanding patio and upper level experience. We were able to sit outside and look right onto Hennepin Ave, and while there's a ton of construction happening right now I know it will be an extremely busy hot spot in the Uptown area. Their Happy Hour menu is great and has $2 off select cocktails, $2 off beer and wine and 15% off select food. We grabbed the Salt and Pepper Shrimp - whole prawn! It's delicious, the shrimp is crispy and cooked perfectly. We also got the green beans garlic and spicy and it was equally delicious. We ordered the Viet '75, their version of a French '75 with some delicious boba beads and the Tii Cup Old Fashioned for our first round. The second round we ordered the Lychee Martini which was AHmazing, and the Thai Tea Negroni which had amazing notes of caramel. I can't wait to go back and try another portion of the menu! Right now, the parking in front of the restaurant isn't available because of construction, but there's plenty of parking in the neighborhood behind L2 and Tii Cup that's well within walking distance to their location.

Yelp
Went to L2 with my sisters and her friends for her 23rd birthday on monday and as it was a weekday we assumed we could sit comfortably at our spot. Half of us waited downstairs while tables were clearing up. Once we sat down our server was not welcoming at all, and made us feel like a burden while there. We ordered food and waited almost 20 min for an additional aioli. We were looking to have a really fun and wholesome birthday for our sister and the entire time we felt like we were being rushed out and not welcome. I've genuinely never experienced this level of hostility and unprofessionalism from service staff. Our party was made up of servers and we were all shocked and felt disrespectful. Additionally as we were leaving our server shoved one of my sisters to the side which is completely unacceptable. genuinely changed my entire perception of the staff and bar as a whole. Will not be recommending or returning.
