I had the pastrami sandwich, and while it was good, I found myself wanting a bit more from it. The pastrami was tender but slightly dry, and it lacked the rich fat content that typically makes this sandwich stand out. Do you prefer your pastrami lean or with a bit more juiciness? I couldn't help but wonder how different it might have been if they made their own pastrami in-house, controlling the fat, smoke, and flavor profile.
The sandwich was a hefty portion, definitely fair for Alaska, and came with creamy coleslaw that added a nice crunch. The cheese provided just the right amount of extra fat and texture, while the Russian dressing was light and balanced, not overpowering at all. Paired with soft rye bread that had a nice outer crust, the components came together well, but I was left thinking that the pastrami itself needed a bit more punch.
The place itself is small, more of a stop-and-go vibe than a fine dining experience, which I think they're aiming for. They offer free coffee and water that you can help yourself to at your leisure--a nice touch for sure. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, with both the staff and diners in great spirits. Have you ever noticed how a friendly environment can really elevate your dining experience? They gave us some helpful recommendations, making us feel right at home.
Overall, it's a solid spot with generous portions and a welcoming vibe. While the sandwich didn't quite wow me enough for a higher rating, I'd still recommend giving it a try--especially if you're in the mood for something hearty in a laid-back setting. What's your take--do you prefer a more traditional, homemade pastrami, or is the convenience and atmosphere more important to you?"
