The NYC Boat Power Rankings

"How does this place exist? What are the fuel costs? How much is the insurance?! We have so many questions about La Barca Cantina, a Mexican restaurant on a massive ship docked alongside North River Lobster Co. Like its sister boat, La Barca leaves port several times a day and rambles around the Hudson for a bit. Tickets mostly run between $10-$25, and there are three levels that you can explore like you’re in some kind of sparsely populated, vaguely Mexican-themed RPG. The margaritas are truly not great, although the tacos aren’t bad, but we wouldn’t recommend a full dinner here. If you’re curious, stop by once, and sit on the top deck. It’s lovely up there. Should you need to drink a margarita on the Hudson in December, La Barca Cantina is open year-round." - bryan kim

La Barca Cantina - Review - Hell's Kitchen - New York - The Infatuation

"La Barca Cantina is one of the more bizarre enterprises in NYC. A Mexican restaurant located on a huge boat that makes a few brief trips down the Hudson several times a day, this floating abnormality feels like it should be a silly tourist attraction—but we aren’t entirely sure if tourists even know it exists. Docked at Pier 81 at 41st Street, the ship is oddly cavernous, with a spacious lounge on the bottom and an upper deck covered in tables. To get on board, you have to buy a ticket, and you’re allowed to hang out as long as you want as the ship sets sail for an hour or so, returns to dock, and continues this process throughout the night. Given the wealth of other things to do in NYC, we aren’t sure why you’d subject yourself to this—but we have to admit, La Barca is unique. photo credit: La Barca Cantina If you’re thinking about hopping aboard, here are a few things you should know: Tickets mostly cost between $10-$35 (food and beverages not included), the margaritas are undrinkable, and, once the boat leaves port, you’ll feel like you’re being held captive on an off-brand cruise ship that’s using a few calaveras and neon signs to unconvincingly masquerade as a cantina. To some, this place will be a nightmare. To others, it might be kinda fun. As long as you know what you’re getting yourself into, you can have a good (or at least interesting) time aboard La Barca Cantina. Sure, the relatively decent tacos are definitely overpriced, but at the end of the day, there aren’t that many restaurants on boats. When you’re sitting on the top deck, watching the Upper West Side pass by, you’ll think, “What a strange and mildly pleasant turn of events." And once you return to dry land, it'll take you at least 10 minutes to decide that you never need to go on La Barca again." - Bryan Kim

I went twice. Once I went on a boat ride with a friend and the tacos were OKAY. I wish they had more flavor, and it was a bit pricey. The view was nice though. The second time I went for brunch with my two kids, and I loved it. I had more fun with them. We stayed below and ate a ton. I drank idk how many mimosas, lol. I had a lot of fun and so did my children. The food on the brunch occasion was a lot better than the first event. I would recommend it, it's fun and the view is great!

Food was served cold, this is definitely a place thats cooks all the food ahead of time and just reheats once you board. I knew it wasnt going to be a 5 star meal because we’re on a boat but steak was SOOO chewy. Esquite (corn) was ice cold out the fridge and the truffle oil is very strong and margaritas are just frozen mixer no alcohol if you can eat and drink before getting on the boat please do so. The views, ride and music are amazing. Food was the only down side.

We went to La Barca Cantina for our four year anniversary, i found out about them on instagram & thought this is the perfect date night!! We ordered the pomegranate margarita pitcher, a quesadilla to start and tacos for our entree. We went on the 5pm cruise so it was two hours and we got to view the statue of liberty. Beautiful views, amazing drinks & food! Just everything about this cruise made our anniversary just PERFECT! Our server Eric was so friendly and attentive. The food came out SO fast too! We can’t wait to return next time & bring a group of friends. Thank you La Barca Cantina for making our special day so memorable!

One of the top activities for visitors or residents. The boat is nice with plenty of seating and the service is top notch. Awesome two hour ride in the Hudson with great views. The bottomless Bellinis and mimosas were better than any brunch I’ve been to and the food was diverse for any pallet. Would recommend for anyone!

Everything was a 10/10, I had a great time. The service was great got seated quickly and served so I didn't wait no time at all. The food was well cooked and seasoned, from the tacos, guacamole, nachos, and the alcohol beverages was all lovely. And the the city view from the boat was breathtaking. As far as the price I went on a date and all together with everything we spent 100 dollars all together, which in my opinion is very worth it. I will be going back.
