Our Best Hotels in Europe's Most Beautiful Vineyards

"La Bastide de Marie avoids the typical 'authentic Provençal' line, and is so much the better for resurrecting in its own way the famous but forgotten genre of farmhouses." - The MICHELIN Guide

La Bastide de Marie has a bar and restaurant, outdoor swimming pool and a spa offering massage and body treatments. The hotel also has a garden. Many activities in the surrounding countryside can be organized by la Bastide and, at the hotel, guests can enjoy cooking courses, wine tasting and tours of the vineyard." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

La Bastide de Marie (Menerbes, French Riviera / Provence) 5 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"La Bastide de Marie avoids the traditional version of Provençal “authenticity,” and in so doing, brings new life to the well-worn genre of the Provence farmhouse hotel. La Bastide is contemporary and sophisticated, in a region where one expects to see only the most staid and old-fashioned hotels — yet while some modern re-inventions come off as pranks, as flippant rejections of tradition, this hotel is a respectful update, true to its surroundings while showing the way forward." - Tablet Hotels

Highly recommend for a luxury romantic experience. The view is stunning, the terrasse magical. The staff and service is very professional but not obsequious. Yes it is expansive but you pay for all the sides. They have the local wine on the menu which is very affordable so it does not explode the bill. I am sure the hotel is great too but did not get to experience.

This is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. The grounds, the rooms, the lovely staff, the food all were first rate. In fact, I have rarely been at a hotel with as perfect setting as this. ||My wife and I were celebrating our 75th birthdays and we spent 2 weeks in Provence. Our time in Avignon and St Paul de Vence was nice, but nothing compared to our 3 nights at La Bastide. Everything about the hotel was inviting and relaxing. And, the staff helped us celebrate our birthdays with champagne, a festive dessert, and a gift basket of local and huge heirloom tomatoes (that I had admired earlier that day) and a bottle of red wine from their own vineyard.||Go and enjoy the Luberon area of Provence. The hill towns are charming, including Menerbes where the hotel is located, good walking, good biking, etc. I can’t wait to go back.

Beautiful and quiet, the grounds are spectacular, there are two pools one is heated, the room was small but pretty, no shower only a tub, we had the half board which included breakfast, an afternoon tea, and dinner of 3 courses appetizer, main and dessert, the only complaint was that we stayed 6 nights and the menu never changed they did offer a special every night but if you didn’t like the special then you had to repeat what you had tried already. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially Sarah, Leaha, and Ernesto. The location is not only beautiful but very easy to get to the other little villages

Amazing food, staff, and location. The property is beautiful. I would suggest changing the decor from shabby chic to a more authentic style, but it was great nonetheless.

Sadly this hotel has really deteriorated in service in the last five years and with their increased prices -we will not be returning. The rooms are tired now and do need to be revamped, the cleaning is lacking any attention to detail and is the bare minimum. Turn down is a cursory exchange, on many nights the rubbish was not removed, no new water, curtains not even closed, a drty phone remained for the week - not to mention them removing clothes from the bed or folding anything - it is the bare minimum! We had the same bath robes for our five nights here! Phone charging station- not a deal breaker but most upmarket hotels have these, if I need to charge my phone and need to use it at the same tome then I should be able to but I can’t here as the plugs are too Far apart.|There are no luxury touches here, very basic amenities and the pillows have polyester filling, AC is extremely noisy and does not work very well. ||Around the hotel, the towels provided for sunbeds are threadbare. One day we removed the previous occupants water glasses and coffee cup, a staff member came and took the coffee cup and left the glasses which remained there the entire day. The pool is fairly unclean they should invest in a robot cleaner.||Breakfast every day is a disaster, the staff on (apart from a senior staff) couldn’t care less. Once you sit down no one greets you to ask you what you would like to drink or how things work. It’s a small buffet and you feel like you are bothering staff every time you ask for something. The whole process is painful, can I order eggs or not, if you do you are made to feel inconvenient and what you end up receiving is so abysmal without any care. I asked for boiled eggs and they were raw. This happened two days in a row and you would expect they would be embarrassed but no not a thing just shrug shoulders. They are only interested in lunch and dinner.||Lunch, we just did on one day. Service again painfully slow and like pulling teeth. Can we order water, nothing arrives. We waited 25 mins for drinks and our order to be taken, it’s just not acceptable. Tiny portions, asked for bread, yes but nothing arrived. ||Dinner, is excellent and I can’t fault it, most of the senior staff on seem to be trying hard and food was very good but maybe try and be a bit more welcoming or happy to see guests. I would also say they don’t seem to be too familiar with the half board concept and don’t really explain this to you properly. ||It is important to point out that this is our third time at this hotel and unfortunately we found the service in general to be on the whole pretty average, the staff seem alot younger and the service can come across as transactional. There were two staff that were not like this but unfortunately it’s not enough to carry everyone else. |We witnessed one of the guys (blonde hair) be very rude about guests who had a mix up with their lunch booking, he would not let them have lunch. The whole thing was very bizarre, I think there may have been 30 covers that day but maybe they didn’t have enough food because they could not fit them in or offer them anything not even a drink to compensate. However his whole manner stomping around muttering in French was quite embarrassing. Just demonstrating a lack of hospitality experience. |Similar odd conversation took place between the receptionist with short blonde hair when we were looking to go somewhere off property for lunch, no no we always let guests eat at the restaurant even if no reservation- I said are you sure at least 3 times as that was not what happened on Sunday she assured me it was. Weird I thought and we had lunch. Then on Sunday we asked to go for lunch and she completely turned the story around and said they were full and could not accommodate us, i reminded her of our conversation which she said I misunderstood- what? Such odd weird behaviour and clearly lying to cover up for what she said. ||I believe Mirelle retired since our last visit so perhaps her leaving has caused this change and the staff are being left to their own devices.|But ultimately at £900 per night for a basic room the overall experience just does not meet expectations, if you are charging that then you need to do better, much better.|You are closed for almost half of the year, therefore you need to start investing in the property otherwise you will no longer have your high paying overseas guests.

"This is a wonderful place nestled in the mountains of Provence. Even the access road leading to it is beautiful. The interior and atmosphere of the manor are unique, stylish, and vintage. The terraces and garden areas are charming and well-maintained. The rooms are not very large, but they are nicely furnished with antique furniture. The wines are good. Overall, it’s a great place."

This was a lunch we will never forget. The charm and the character of the winery and restaurant are everything you would imagine in the south of France. From the start we were made to feel welcome and the staff were very accommodating. The food was amazing, as was also the local wine. After lunch we also walked through the grounds, which were amazing. We look forward to visiting again, but this time staying in the accommodation they have.

We came here for our 30th wedding anniversary and stayed 4 nights. The setting is magical: rustic-chic rooms and furnishings on a large working farm and vineyard. Two swimming pools and an enchanting back garden setting for meals. Excellent food; wine, olive oil, and honey made on the premises (and available for purchase). But what really sets this place apart is the incredible and personalized service (e.g., the breakfast cook remembers your egg orders from yesterday; the host asks you how your dinner was at the restaurant he booked for you). The location is excellent for exploring the beautiful nearby towns of the Luberon such as Menerbes, Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Rousillon, Goult, Isle sur la Sorgue, and so on. We saw some of these on e-bikes that you can rent for the day or half-day. My only complaint is that the Wi-Fi is wonky, but then you shouldn't be on your devices in a place like this.
