Bakery & restaurant with market cuisine, fresh pastries, brunch

"Quite possibly the most classically French sandwich on the list, this baguette is smothered in Dijon and stacked high with ham, aged comté and plenty of gherkins. The fresh bread, baked on site, gives this sandwich the clear upper hand compared to others in this rapidly-changing part of town. (Note that the sandwich isn’t on the regular menu at La Bête à Pain in Ahuntsic.)" - Erinn Blicher

"The lauded Ahuntsic bakery from chef-owner Marc-André Royal (Le St-Urbain) has spread both south and north in recent years, bringing its exceptional bread and pastries first to Griffintown and then to Laval. The expanded space allows for more leisurely lunches, brunches, and afternoon snacks served with coffee or natural wine." - Erinn Blicher

"After opening market-driven bistro hit Le St-Urbain in 2008, chef Marc-André Royal decided to gift Ahuntsic yet another gem: bakery La Bête à Pain. Now with additional locations in Griffintown and Laval, the bakery’s stellar bread, delicious raspberry and blueberry financiers, and almond-topped Paris-Brest are never too far afield." - Daniel Bromberg

"The baguettes are close to perfection at these bakeries/restaurants/grocery stores from Marc-André Royal with locations in Ahuntsic, Griffintown and Laval. Loaves, like the fougasse, multigrain, and levain, are also not to be missed." - Mallory Frayn

"All three locations of chef Marc-André Royal’s excellent bakery are open at the moment: Griffintown, Ahuntsic, and Laval. All of them are baking excellent bread and viennoiseries, as well as ready-to-eat options like sandwiches and soups (courtesy of a bigger kitchen, the Laval location has a larger menu that includes heat-at-home meals). Delivery is an option within a few kilometres of each bakery, and they’re all open from early morning to late afternoon daily (except Griffintown, which is closed Sundays)." - Tim Forster
