"Don't let the location on the outskirts and the contemporary building put you off. This restaurant is dedicated to outstanding meats, as you might guess from the mural depicting Rocky Balboa (punching a side of beef in an iconic scene from Rocky) and, opposite that, the aging cellar in which meats of impeccable quality are refined. In addition, dishes such as delicate striped bass crudo with orange, or the lobster with garlic butter, are great. Don't leave without trying the desserts, especially the classic Baileys crème brûlée. The wine list is packed with real gems, and daily seasonal suggestions are featured on the blackboard." - Michelin Inspector

We came here for lunch and — plot twist — we were the only ones in the restaurant. It honestly felt like we rented the whole place for ourselves. Kinda fancy, kinda fun. The vibe and decor? Absolutely beautiful. Very elegant, from the lighting to the table settings. You walk in and immediately feel like you’ve stepped into a little corner of Europe. Our server was very French (in the best way possible), and the overall experience felt like a mini escape to Paris without the plane ticket. ✨🇫🇷 As for the food, we came in with high hopes — especially for the steak, since that seems to be their specialty. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The steak was… okay. Not bad, just not mind-blowing. However, the soup and salad? Chef’s kiss. They were unexpectedly the stars of the show. Bonus: the meal includes tea or coffee to wrap up, which was a nice touch. Overall, come for the ambiance, stay for the soup, and manage your expectations for the steak. 💁‍♀️ Would I come back? Maybe — if only to enjoy that peaceful, high-class vibe again.

Nicely decorated inside and out with ambient lighting. Has a polished feel. Service was not the best. It took some time for someone to greet us. Once she was there she was friendly and offered us menus in English. Upon being seated we had no service for some time. The food was good. We ordered the deep fried gnocchi, bone marrow and beef tartar, brussel sprouts and scallops appetizer. Of them all we were disappointed in the scallops. It did not come in a shell and the scallops were hard to find. It wasn't clear there were scallops at all. It was essentially mashed potatoes with bits of bacon and stuff in it. It tasted good and it was not what we were expecting. I don't know if it was lost in translation. It would be good to have a better description of how the dish is presented.

For a fine dining experience I would not say it meets that threshold. No linen table covers, loud music, patrons wearing ball caps, sports on TV, and close tables meaning walking people have to maneuver zig zagiing through the restaurant. Our dinner was cellebrating our 31st anniversary and we brought our wedding candle which they lighted but at the end when our deserts were delivered there was absolutely no mention of an extra favour or anything recognizing our celebration. Just a little disappointing with the whole occasion. The food was good but not outstanding. Service was adequate. We would choose another restaurant our next time here.

Surprising fushion of upscale sports bar, premeir steakhouse and jazzy elegance. Food is amazing and not overpriced. Service was wonderful amd genuine.

The price definitely worths the food! It’s one of our greatest experience in Quebec City. We ordered two dishes but we got two same dishes. We were pretty surprised that the waiter told us we can keep it if we want and it’s not charged. And he was getting our another order. The service is absolutely wonderful. We would come back to try the streaks if we come to Quebec City again :)

Night started good worh tasty tartar and on the house beef Jerky. We ordered a platter. We asked to be cooked medium. The wagyu and NY were medium, but the cowboy (ribeye) was rare, literally. We sent it back, and even when it came back, it was not a medium. I posted the picture of it after cooking a second time. The biggest problem I think was not how it cooked, but the quality of the meat. It was soft , easy to eat but not flavorful. I had better tasting meats in the low-level restaurant. On the other hand, the meat was not hot enough. After having a second piece, the rest became cold. Experience was okay for medium level $$ restaurant but not acceptable for such an expensive high-end restaurant.

Ordered cowboy steak table d’hôte. The appetizer and soup were super. Steak had good flavor. However, the doneness was not consistent. I ordered medium rare but what came out was: edge parts were well done and the inner parts were rare. Portion was big and I packed the rare leftover steaks home. The saving grace was that I microwaved the rare leftover the next morning and they tasted great :)

Yelp
I had been to La Bête before for dinner many years ago, and in my memories the steaks had been good, but nothing extraordinary. The interior of the restaurant is quite posh and over the top, with dramatic frames around the windows of the cold chambers where the steaks are aging. In fact, my favorite part of the meal was the jerky served in the beginning of the meal. It was delicious! We went to La Bête just to buy more of it in the following years. This time, I opted to drop by their butcher shop to buy some special cuts for Father's Day. I was not alone with that idea, as a lineup had formed at their entrance. Most clients were there to pick up a few items from their butcher shop, with the kids eyeing the live lobsters at the entrance with amusement. I went for the Tomahawk AAA, the Porterhouse AAA, the Kansas AAA and to finish in style, the "Cowboy" wagyu. You can probably guess which one cost the most!. Service was very courteous and speedy despite how busy the shop was. My order took a bit longer than that of others, as many had ordered online beforehand and only needed to pick up their reserved bags. I took my precious package home and proceeded to patiently let the cuts warm up before prepping them with salt and pepper. I won't go into details of the cooking, but it was definitely an exciting experience to manage these impressive and different cuts (we aimed for rare to medium rare). The steaks were delicious! The porterhouse was particularly tender, second only to the wagyu, which was distinguished from the other cuts by its rich umami flavour. Despite what the wallet says, it was a great family experience and my dad was very happy indeed!

Yelp
Ok so I went back to La Bête and it was even better. The service was awesome. Had this crazy bone marrow with snails, some foie gras that was to die for. And take a look at the meat platter I shared with my friends!!!!! My buddy had a chou à la crème stuffed with a profiterole for dessert, and the thing was as big as my head! Congrats, la Bête! You get a 5 star rating for this fantastic meal.

Yelp
I will drive to Quebec city just to eat at this restaurant! Steak heaven. I ordered in english cause no one speaks Vietnamese and everyone speaks only french. Amazing decor, awesome service and one hell of a steak. Comparable to Jacobs steak house in Toronto.

Yelp
My wife and I went on a getaway weekend to Quebec City and had dinner at La Bete on recommendation of our hotel concierge. Our choice was a good one. We shared the crab cake appetizer which turned out to be more cake than crab. I may have spotted a small bit of claw meat, but no lump crab was to be found. The presentation was nice, but the first course was a disappointment. Our server presented all their cuts to us and explained the dry and wet aging methods used at La Bete. We both chose the New York Sirloin cooked medium rare. Both were grilled perfectly with a vegetable accompaniment that included yellow buttered beets which were out of this world (and I hate beets!). The mashed and baked potatoes were done very nicely. We finished with maple cream brûlée and cafe au lait.

Yelp
I don't speak French; so everything was ordered in English. When I got the final bill, they added 15% tips to the bill for. So I asked why they do that. The server did not have an answer. So I said why did my bill get tips added to it, I am not a table of 6 or more; or in a hotel and the menu does not state tips will be added. The server responded: BECAUSE YOU ARE ASIAN! So we added the tips to your bill. Wow! This is the most discriminating restaurant I have been to in Canada. And I still do not believe the server said that! My suggestion is if you look asian, Indian, native or do not speak French, do not step into this place. They will treat you like aliens with special care! Our server took out the tips, and obviously I paid him no tips. I usually pay minimum 15%, many times over 20% if his their service is sincere. Decor is very business, typical steakhouse feel. Now we move to the food. Steak was good, but not great. 3 stars at most, the steak was pretty dry. Wine menu received wine spectator basic award; in my opinion it needs improvement. Very basic list with limited selection

Yelp
My husband and I came here to celebrate our 35 year anniversary, and we're so fortunate we did. Every aspect of our dinner was extremely delicious! We would definitely return and highly recommend this fine steakhouse to all our family and friends! We ate every morsel as it was completely delicious to the very last bite! Patrick, our waiter made our experience complete by attending to our every desire to try different gravies that we would have never thought of trying. It was an amazing experience! Very delicious and we are very happy with the amount we paid. You pay for what you get and you get worth every penny here! Absolutely love this restaurant!! Yay!! Don't be surprised at your bill, it's worth it, and I was very happy to pay it!

Yelp
I must say that we were very disappointed . This is supposed to be the BEST steakhouse in town... The decor is very nice but the crowd looks low class, for the price you pay you would think they would require a certain decent dress code, NOPE most people in tank tops, hoodies over their head, baseball caps etc... 3 out of 6 of us had the wrong cooking temp, 2 sent it back and they still got it wrong. Unacceptable for a steakhouse! The crab cakes weren't crab cakes but dried "potato croquettes", but the lobster was very good. Our server had zero experience and cold as ice, she didn't know the difference between a regular coffee, an espresso and a cappuccino OUCH! Surely not worth the 1000.00 tab. I think the chef needs to go take a cooking class at Ruth Chris or even Houston.

Yelp
Our server was wonderful and so very sweet! That's the only highlight of my visit. Food took almost an hour to get and they were beyond unapologetic. They said it can sometimes be that long due to "quality." Odd because everyone around us didn't have that issue. Steaks were okay, but not worth that wait. Would not return ever. Not even close to worth it.

Yelp
Might of been the best steak I have ever had. Velvety and buttery and don't get me started on the asparagus and Mashed potatoes. Ended it with the blueberry Creme Brûlée and thought I was in a delicious heaven with a burnt crust.i would give it more stars if I could!!

Richard S.

Yelp
Not even close to as good as the typical prime steakhouse. Pricing is competitive but the kitchen was incredibly slow. We received our entrees 45 minutes after our starter. The "manager" tried to explain away the issue by saying they were trying to protect the quality, but it was total nonsense. Steaks were just okay...nothing incredible. Same with desserts. You should be able to easily find a better steakhouse in Quebec City. Do not go here.

Yelp
I found the food at La Bête to be very ordinary and overpriced. In contrast I had dinner at a restaurant in the heart of touristy downtown Quebec city that was twice as good at half the price. 'Grilled' ceasar salad was over spiced. NY strip was bland and tough. To top it off the waiter had the gall to write his tip (15%) onto the bill for my table of one, amid mediocre service. Save yourself and stay away.
