The 14 Best Bakeries in NYC

"La Bicyclette is oh so French, not only because they make perfect breads and laminated pastries, but because they sell them when they damn well feel like it. This Williamsburg bakery’s hours of operation are 8am to 1pm Tuesday through Sunday, and on Saturdays the line is usually wrapped around the block for the entirety of that period. Suck it up and wait. You’re going to get a fantastic loaf of bread out of it. La Bicyclette also has locations in Fort Greene and Carroll Gardens." - willa moore, carina finn koeppicus, kenny yang

Google
Oh I absolutely love them. Seriously the most gorgeous cozy bakery in the area. The inside is decorated beautifully and really a great place for a date, a catch up, and more. The coffee is delicious

Google
I saw a nice review for this place that emphasized on the croissants and I’m always seeking the best croissants from quality bakeries so I decided to give this place a try. It’s located on Dekalb off of S.Elliot pl. There is no sign or mention of la bicyclette anywhere on the bakery but that’s okay it’s findable. I ordered the classic butter croissant and a coffee. The croissant was well layered and had good top and bottom crunch to it with a soft interior. I would say it was certainly baked properly but it was lacking the rich buttery flavor I prefer in artisan croissants. The coffee was good but it was a tad too light of a roast for my personal taste. Friendly staff inside and a nice outside dining area was enjoyable. I was underwhelmed by the croissant but they had a whole array of baked goods to try, perhaps on another visit.

Went out of my comfort zone and opted for the pate sandwich instead of the typical ham and cheese. Pleasantly surprised as the mustard and cornichon tied the flavors well. The view of the park added to the overall experience.

Google
I love their baguette sandwiches — ham & cheese or fig jam, Brie & arugula — the breads are sublime. Perfect for pick up on the way to Fort Greene Park and enjoying the sandwiches in the park! Expect some line on the weekend around noon

Google
i come here for the $2 baguettes which makes me overlook the sometimes sassy service. pastries are ok imo, baguette sandwiches don’t get heated up so i’d recommend bringing it home and toasting it with a drizzle of olive oil to enjoy it fully.

Google
Great baguette sandwich. Cold ham and cheese croissant. Was told it’s because of health code! Tasty chocolate croissant.

Google
They have good ice! Ugh I wish more places had pebble/nugget ice and I come here just for a cold brew or a latte with the good ice :) also delicious croissants

Yelp
I've been a huge La Bicyclette fan since their early days. Leaving the house once a week to purchase some delicious freshly baked baguettes and pain au chocolats while socially distanced was one of the highlights of my week. It has been a pleasure to see La Bicyclette slowly expand-- this Fort Greene location is right across from the park and shares the space somewhat with neighbor Cafe Paulette. The bakery is pretty small, but the banquette seating with the exposed brick give the space a moody, chic cellar vibe. Given the space of the location, this outpost is surprisingly busy and unfortunately understocked. This was the second time in a few weeks that I stopped by late morning only to find that they were sold out of most pastries. I would love if they could extend their operation hours or bake some more croissants. The pickings are slim most mornings after 10:30am.

Yelp
As an avid pastry lover, I'd heard a lot about La Bicyclette and have been wanting to try it for quite a while. This morning my time had finally come lol. There was a bit of wait but the line moved rather quickly. It's a pretty charming little bakery and the turnaround was quick. I got coffee, a plain croissant, and an apricot danish. The pastries were yummy, the coffee was decent too. I'm now reading that all the rage is mostly about their baguettes so I'll definitely be back to try those one day. It's a solid option, but didn't make it on my faves list.

Yelp
Pastry's and sandwiches are delicious. Lines can be long depending on you visit, but so worth it.

Yelp
Why such short hours? Some of us have to work in the morning. Please consider staying open until at least 2pm. Thanks

Yelp
I never leave reviews but this was a particularly horrible experience. The cashier and barista looked at each other and rolled their eyes when I ordered a soy latte. I had to ask three times before they laughed at me and said they only had almond and oat milk. They also made fun of me when I didn't see where to pick up my order. They didn't hear me say thank you so the cashier obnoxiously yelled "you're welcome!" as I was leaving and they both started cracking up laughing. First time being humiliated getting (mediocre) coffee in NYC in 15 yrs. Will never return. The chocolate almond croissant is also WAY over-hyped.

Yelp
Was not impressed. I was super excited to try this bakery, and when I arrived after waiting in a brief line I was next to be helped. The cashier greeted everyone prior to me but when it was my turn to order he just stared at me blank faced, so I said "Good morning, how are you?" And proceeded to giving him my order. The service was lacking although the female barista was kind. As for the actual product itself. I got an oat milk latte, blackberry danish and chocolate almond croissant. The danish was my favorite pastry but still relatively bland. The espresso in the latte had no distinct flavor concerning and it was mediocre at best overwhelmed with the flavor of steamed oat milk.

Yelp
you must try this bakery. get some type of croissant and some type of sandwich on a baguette. we tried the fig and brie sandwich and it was incredible. i would recommend going on the earlier side before popular items sell out!

Yelp
I finally visited this bakery while visiting my son. Oh my goodness!!! A raspberry Danish, latte and quiche for later. Delightful staff, quick service, beautiful breads, pastries and sandwiches. If only I could make a cross country trip once a month or more to be a regular customer. I LOVE THIS BAKERY!

Yelp

Yelp
One of the best bakeries in Brooklyn. I walk 20 mins to get their croissants. Not undercooked and doughy, nor over cooked and dry--just right. Lovely small space inside and sitting outside with the park across the street is gorgeous. I almost don't want to review this, and keep it a secret.

Yelp
The location and vibe are amazing, the coffee is great, and the croissants are mediocre (bland)
