"La Binerie has been open since way back in 1938, and is still making some of the city’s best comforting breakfasts as well as Quebec classics like tourtière (meat pie), ragoût de boulettes (meatball stew), fèves au lard (pork and beans), and pouding chômeur (baked syrupy batter) for dessert." - JP Karwacki, Joel Balsam

"It may be pretty far removed from the other (mostly) fine dining options on this map, but from fèves au lard and pea soup to pâté chinois and tourtière, this Plateau institution, which bills itself as “Quebec on your plate,” is a temple of old-school, hearty Québécois fare." - Holly Tousignant, Ashley Joseph, Eater Staff

"If you’ve ever wondered what an authentic, salt of the earth Quebec breakfast was like back in the day, look no further than La Binerie on St-Denis (it moved to new digs in late 2019). Open since 1938, they’re still serving up some of this province’s heartier classics. Elastic waistbands welcome." - Ian Harrison, Joanna Fox, Tim Forster

This place serves real Quebec breakfast food, so if you are expecting fancy picture perfect food, don’t give them less stars bec it’s not that. Food was just as the menu described, and service was great. Place is clean and well decorated. We were a party of 4 and we were seated promptly. Didn’t feel rushed and the server was friendly.

Came here because all the “viral” spots were packed with lineups out the door but I’m so happy we did! A cute quaint little spot with nice service and decor. Ordered the eggs Benedict and black sausage. It filled us up and allowed us to try some authentic quebecois food. The beans were so flavourful and everything was made fresh and so yummy! And coffee was on the house!

Going to the newest, flashiest restaurant in town is always fun, but discovering a long-established place for the first time is just as exciting. This was the case with here for us. Serving authentic, traditional Québécois cuisine since 1938, they have all the classics: poutine, shepherd's pie, pea soup, tourtière, pouding chômeur, and more. But the comfort food items don't stop there; they serve breakfast all day, and all their alcohol is locally made here in Quebec. The menu is just too vast to get a good sense of it in one go. We will have to return for more, but our initial impression was positive.

First time coming to the new location and was very impressed. Our waiter was exceptionally courteous and very attentive. I had the black sausage (boudin), which was delicious. Another family member had eggs and sausage and said everything was great too. Will be returning!

Unassuming but oh-so-comforting food and atmosphere that will warm your soul (and fill your stomach!) My husband and I visited on a chilly, grey and rainy late morning and was cordially greeted by a friendly staff (I think one of the owners served us). We sat at the bar area and felt immediately at home with the old-school decorations. We ordered boudin noir and 2 eggs with crepe with maple syrup. Loved everything but the boudin was by far the best item! Seasoned and cooked perfectly. So moist and also with a perfect char on the surface… my mouth is watering as I write this. Everything on the plate was delicious (including the beans cooked in lard) but we would go back just for the boudins!

So glad we stumbled upon this glorious “greasy spoon.” The one egg one crepe plate was PERFECTION! The kids got the crepe with chocolate & bananas - they easily could have shared and ended up preferring our traditional dishes. My husband got the traditional Québécois lunch plate - pea soup, meat pie, meatballs and mashed potatoes. Fantastique! 10 out of 10 would come back.

Great place to visit when in Montreal. This family-owned institution is all about making traditional Québécois comfort food. My go-to order is #9 (the black sausage combo). Their black sausage is great! I also get a piece of their tourtière as a side too. Their tourtière (Québécois meat pie) is amazing: well-seasoned, no salty aftertaste. My only complaint is that the beans cooked in lard can sometimes be too salty. But I love those beans, they are not the sweet baked beans people usually think of. Good thing is that they open until 9pm in the weekend, so I can visit them when I am hungover. My wife loves it so much that we had our wedding anniversary dinner there!
