La Bistrote

Amazing french cuisine. Incredibly tasty dishes. The linguine with seafood were absolutely delicious, and the chocolate moelleux was perfectly prepared. The vegetarian cheese + fries were also very nice. Strongly recommended, a highlight on our trip to Montpellier.

"Unpretentious" (to quote directly from the published description) is right on the spot. Edit: Food - friends feedback; better than average (4 star). Service - sarcastic/mocking attitude, as easily seen in the reply (2 star). All in all - "unpretentious" => 3 star.

To us, Le Bistrote is the ideal French cafe. The food is both traditional and innovative; the staff is extremely kind, efficient, and accommodating; and the shady patio below the eaves of St. Anne’s church on a winding alley just off the main tourist streets makes us feel we’ve discovered a hidden treasure every time we go. Today was our sixth lunch (they don’t serve dinner). The menu changes daily and we have yet to be disappointed. Every dish has been wonderful and prices are more than reasonable. I am loathe to post this as tables are difficult to come by as it is. You can call them or message them on FB for a reservation if your French is terrible like mine.

Fabulous food and huge value for money. Outdoor seating is a quiet spot next to a church. The salmon was superb, as was the octopus. We left full after 3 courses. Great service and a great little place.

Excellent place off the beaten path. Had the duck leg and chicken wrapped in pastry amd were both excellent. Only downside is menu is handwritten in French so Google translate can't pick up. At least there 1 was super friendly waitress among the 3 there that spoke perfect English and helped us out. Would repeat again for sure

My husband and I really enjoyed our lunch here; the ham (space) burger was inventive, incredible tender and flavorful. The beef tartare was well prepared and refreshing. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Very quaint and unpretentious restaurant. The menu is written on a board which they will set by your table. Everyone dining there was French. They were very nice to us tourists though. One of the ladies there spoke English and was very helpful. The food was good and the portions generous.

I saw the beautiful food in the pictures and was drawn in. But the food I was served was completely cut corners and was nothing like the pictures. Restaurants will do a perfunctory job when there are a lot of people.

Not open for dinner currently :( disappointed as the reviews sounded great). Food sounded great, would love it if they would update their hours.

We were back in Montpellier and had to come back for another meal. It didn't disappoint! We shared escargot with parsley and butter to start along with some baked razor clams. It was all delicious, particularly the razor clams. For our mains, we both had lamb shanks which were cooked to (almost) fall off the bone consistency. It would have used with probably another hour or two of cooking but it was still delicious. It was served with a beautiful array of veg which provided a colourful background for the lamb. The dish was very pretty! Super bon repas dans un endroit tranquil. Nous avons passé un très bonne soirée ici. C'était même mieux parce que c'était pendant la Coupe du Monde. France jouait et heureusement pour tout le monde, a gagné! :-)
