Google
I was honestly surprised to see the low overall rating, because my experience here was the complete opposite. The food was perfect — fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered came out exactly as expected and tasted great. The atmosphere was very pleasant: calm, comfortable, and ideal whether you’re coming for a relaxed meal or a longer evening. On top of that, the staff was extremely polite and attentive, always checking in without being intrusive. Everyone can have an off day, but based on my visit, this place definitely deserves more credit than it’s getting. I’d absolutely come back and recommend giving it a fair chance instead of relying only on the rating.

Google
The food was okay, definitely not worth the price. The servers were amazing and very attentive. It’s truly a beautiful restaurant and place in general but me and my group of friends were being followed by some security guard there just because we were taking photos ( on the phone with no flash per policy) and he even kept following us upstairs and even waited outside the bathroom. These security guards seemed to do the same with other paying patrons, which is absolutely absurd considering this place is only known for its aesthetics because other than that, it’s not remarkable at all. Definitely will not be coming back again.

Had an amazing experience at La Boca. Michelle took great care of me from start to finish—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, full of flavor and beautifully prepared. Everything came out perfectly, and the overall atmosphere made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
My honest review! The interior design, the color pallet, textures, all so rich and bold in my humble opinion is their highest selling point. Moving on to their Incredible wine selection for those who have deep pockets. The service is attentive enough in lovely uniforms. But the pasta? A $16.00 identical plate in Nashville is light years ahead! Truly a waste of money. Bland, watery and non memorable. Not to mention the portion size...for $32.00? Defintely didn't meet my expectations.

Google
We tried this place despite the low rating and were pleasantly surprised. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we genuinely enjoyed the experience. The food was fresh and well prepared, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Definitely worth trying we would gladly come back.

Google
Disappointing and Classist Experience I went to La Boca at the Faena Hotel mainly because of its viral, Instagram-famous aesthetic. Yes, the place is beautiful and very photo-worthy, but unfortunately that seems to be the only focus. My experience was extremely uncomfortable. While my sister and I were using the bathroom, a security employee followed us in and we were yelled at from outside that we had only two minutes to use the restroom and then had to leave — even though we were paying customers. This did not happen to other girls in the bathroom. It felt targeted, rude, and frankly classist. The staff (except for the door hosts, who were polite) was unfriendly and dismissive. I’ve never seen such an absurd bathroom rule, especially for a place that is currently famous because of social media photos. If you need more than two minutes — to freshen up or change a sanitary pad — apparently this is not the place for you. The food was bad, the drinks were extremely overpriced, and if you look Latino or Hispanic, don’t expect attentive service. First and last time here. I do not recommend this place at all.

Google
La Boca is incredible. The food, service, wine list, ambiance and sheer beauty of this space culminate for a magical dining experience. The fact that photos aren't allowed, makes the experience that much more lovely. In a world where people go everywhere for a photo and a social media post, it's lovely that the guests are enjoying the moment and the ambiance isn't tainted by flashes and phones out.

Jaxon F.

Google
Listen to the negative reviews on this one… the rumors about the photos is true. They don’t mind on a cell phone but you absolutely cannot have anything else, no point and shoot. I understand they are trying to cut down on flash, influencers and what not….but the guards following everyone around to make sure they were using a phone… a little much. Idk. The place looked great. That’s what made us come. The food was very average. And the gnocchi was very small:( I’d say spend your high-end dinner night somewhere else. Trust

Yelp
La Boca NYC is located inside the beautiful Faena hotel and has an elegant, open setup. The tables are spaced far apart, so you actually feel like you have your own space something rare in NYC. The décor is upscale with dim, warm lighting that makes the place feel both grand and intimate at the same time. We ordered the empanadas(delicious!!), the apple and hazelnut salad, the beet and pistachio dish, the Striped Sea Bass a la Plancha, the Beef Tower, the Lamb Chops, and two desserts (the chocolate layered cake and the tart). Everything was beautifully presented and tasted great. The sea bass was light and flavorful, and the lamb chops were tender and perfectly cooked. The beef tower was solid but not necessarily a dish I'd return specifically for. The only real downside was the pacing the drinks took about 30 minutes to arrive, and the food service was slower than expected. The server was attentive and kind, so it seemed more like a kitchen or bar delay. It is a beautiful spot for a special dinner. Just expect smaller portions, higher prices, and a slower, more leisurely pace more of a "dining experience".

Yelp
I think I'm officially throwing in the towel on overhyped TikTok restaurants. The gag is... I didn't even make it to the table to figure this one out for myself. This place does not answer the phone. At all. I've been to plenty of popular, high-traffic restaurants and still managed to get someone on the line, so there's really no excuse. Then comes the in-person experience: the hosts/hostesses had an incredibly unwelcoming attitude. Right away, it set the tone. We were told we could be seated, but only if we agreed to order "small bites" and finish within one hour--at 6 PM on a Saturday? Strange conditions for a first visit, and frankly, a huge red flag. We ended up canceling our reservation before even sitting down. Between the lack of hospitality and the odd restrictions, it just wasn't worth it. The beauty of NYC is that there are countless amazing restaurants ready to greet you with a warm welcome--no gimmicks, no attitude, no TikTok hype required.

Yelp
The restaurant's decor is fantastic. I was really impressed by the ambiance and the overall atmosphere. However, I found the food to be overpriced and the portions were very small for what we paid. While the setting was great, I don't feel the overall dining experience was worth the money. There are better real Argentinian options in the city!

Yelp
The service here is a 10! We tried a lot of very unique dishes. The live music was nice. All of the food was delicious. I wouldnt get the artichoke but everything else was great. The buratta was excellent!

Yelp
Have been to La Boca twice and it is an excellent new restaurant. Not traditional Argentinian, but the food is all very good. The room is beautiful and the service is very refined. The cocktails are great too. My one complaint is that although they have a huge wine list. They only have a limited selection of Argentinian wines when they could have a much more comprehensive selection of South America wines. The live music is great too.

Yelp
The decor is jaw dropping. The food not. Lunch review only. The dining room with its bold art & blush banquettes is a dream, reminiscent of Veronika, now closed but stunning. The service is impeccable! Ate: Sea bass with broccolini & a sliver of sweet potato plus aoili Tianof ratatouille Faena Malbec Total $90 Like Cafe Chelsea there's no bread service at lunch but the great staff accommodated me with some toast pieces. My beef is when you eat a $48 lunch fish there should be bread service, but ok The $19 wine was exceptional. My fish was remarkably cooked with crispy skin, but my plate at $48 underwhelmed. The sliver of sweet potato perfect for carb phobic moi felt cheap. The tiny ratatouille meant to wow did not taste made to order. My friends raved about their empanadas which were excellent and the taste of the eclair also terrific. While scenesters will descend I would retreat. The food here does not compare to Fuego -Miami.

Yelp
La Boca has a très chic vibe -- stylish, lively, and full of energy. The service is good, and the setting is exceptional. The live band is easily the highlight, creating a fun and memorable atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food is pretty average and overpriced. Go for the vibe, not the food.

Yelp
Food. service, Ambiance and the Vibe! I don't know why this place isn't min 4 star avg! My experience was all around 5 star! People complaint about this place being pricy.... But given the atmosphere, the quality of food it's worth every penny. How many places give you live band that is playing Waltz immaculately! Service is too notch. You go high end restaurants and you get this snooty vibe from the staff. Over at La Boca, from door staff to bus boys,... every one had a smile and a pleasant personality! I had the Beef empanadas (best I ever had)... ok it's $17 for 1 but it's insanely flavorful. Will go back just for that. I had the apple salad and then ordered the wagu steak with sweet potato's . It was cooked to perfection. Peak time is at 7:30 when the place is bustling. I'll go back with a larger group next. Perfect for a date night!

Yelp
The restaurant itself had a very sexy ambiance perfect for a date night ! The service from beginning to end was excellent , Giovanni was our server . However the food itself was not amazing and the alcoholic drinks were good but not strong. I would return again for drinks with girls but that's about it .

Thalia R.

Yelp
Ok so after that horrific review in the New Yorker, as a NYC native who is half Argentinean I was like let me try. Tbh Mariana, our server was incredible, every single plate was phenom. Expensive? Yes. Vibey? Yes. Will I go again? Yes.

Sab S.

Yelp
Never in my life have I had a restaurant in a five star property serve food with the allergens that were asked to be removed. My friend tried to double check and ask if there was almonds in our dish as he set our plate down and the server said no. I was about to take a bite just a few minutes later when the server came back and asked to take the plate away, saying that the kitchen messed up. As we were leaving, I heard the woman next to us tell her server that she couldn't eat her dish because it had nuts on it and she mentioned she had allergies earlier. It's pretty ratchet for a five star property to not take allergies seriously. For a new opening trying to position itself among true luxury establishments, this level of incompetence is embarrassing. I've had better service and hospitality at a dollar slice

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience at La Boca. The bartender was phenomenal. Hospitality was amazing. They recommended me to walk upstairs to the second floor to check out the bar, the hospitality was terrible walked out and said goodbye to the workers at the front desk and they did not acknowledge us whatsoever. I said goodbye two times and they just looked at me like I was a stranger or a homeless person walking in. Five star environment with two star service at the second floor. I spent two hours at the first Floor and they were great, Julio gave us great service and made great cocktails for us. Spent a reasonable amount of money. But the second floor treated us like peasants. The doorman at the front entrance was very kind and polite. He had a white top hat on this evening. It's 5:13 PM. November 10 at La Boca, la faena Hotel.

Yelp
Terrible service!! The hostesses are horrible. They lost track of who came when and whose reservation was when. It's like you get sat whenever they feel like it. So don't plan in sitting until an hour after your reservation and then eating maybe 2hrs after your reservation. I mean getting something basic like napkins took tracking someone down. Then the food... basic at best. Nothing special. No where near worth the wait. Come on guys... do better. This is New York and we have soooo many options.

Julianne H.

Yelp
Lovely and delicious! Yes, the room is beautiful and so nice to have in a sea of casual dining in the city. We were welcomed with kindness and seated at the perfect table after not loving our first table close to the bar. Marie, our server was so kind, knowledgeable, interesting, and unfussy yet professional! She was a true delight and I feel like we made a friend in her! When we finished our meal she walked us out to meet Henri, the club manager. The food was beautiful and delicious! I am a vegetarian and I found many lovely choices! The crispy artichoke was perfection, the beet carpaccio was fresh and paired beautifully with the artichoke and the eggplant pasta was tender and light. The domino potatoes with arugula were delicious! I did not love the desserts. Overall, a wonderful evening!

Yelp
The place is beautiful. If you've been to the Miami location, you expect it to be as sexy of a vibe as it actually is. However, the service is horrendous. We were an hour late being seated and that was only because I stopped the floor manager and pushed him to sort it out. To his credit, he was the only one who seemed to care when we raised the issue. No one at the hostess stand seemed to care when we spoke with them, and people who arrived 20-30mins after us being seated before we were...they seemed to think that was ok. After all of that, the best I could find to order off the menu was spaghetti pomodoro. Not worth the wait or hype. Net: beautiful spot. Amazing crowd. Only go if you don't care about good service or respect for your time.

Nish S.

Yelp
The ambiance is absolutely beautiful! They have live music and service was amazing! The food and drinks were good just very overpriced for small portions. The hotel itself is also very pretty!

Yelp
Absolute abhorrent service. I made a reservation over a month in advance to celebrate a milestone birthday. On the day before the event I called to ensure everything was in place and was told no reservation existed. Was assured that I would be contacted to seek a resolution and have been unable to reach anyone live nor have anyone respond to my multiple emails. The reviews are spot on, despite my appreciation of Mallmann this is not up to his standards. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/the-food-scene/la-boca-is-all-smoke-no-fire

Yelp
I am not sure about the negative reviews. I really enjoyed all of the food I had here. I ordered the beef empanadas, the shrimp pasta, the steak tower, the branzino and the fried eggplant. Everything tasted amazing. The ambiance was so classy, romantic and upscale. Every table had fresh red roses. There was also a jazz singer and piano player that serenaded us throughout the night. The service was very attentive and helpful. I had an amazing time and I highly recommend going.

Nicolette Maria B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, loved the music. Our server Marie was very entertaining and attentive, food was outstanding! We loved our meal and experience here and can't wait to come back. Highly suggest family style eating so you can try it all!

Yelp
The restaurant doesn't answer emails or phone calls, so I walked in on my birthday and was advised I'd have to download an app I've never heard of to make a reservation. Downloaded the app and it has a waitlist. Cherry on top was how incredibly rude the manager/person bossing the staff around was at La Boca, he had a horrible attitude and behaved like he did not want to be there. Seems like they are trying to create the allusion of exclusivity with plain old terrible customer service.

Yelp
We were very excited to be able to dine at a Mallmann restaurant in New York, until we did... The room is impeccably decorated, bit too much velvet and cheetah for my taste but the kitschiness of it all is fun. Every detail is very Faena. The staff is an army of men and women that walk by the tables without making eye contact; maybe because Faena himself was having dinner there and they were tending his table frenetically. The food is forgettable. The empanadas are good, filling is good but ours were cold. Also the watery tomato sauce doesn't make a lot of sense. I am Argentinean and never had this with empanadas before; vinegary and cold might have been a good complement of the empanada itself would have been at least warm. The milanesa was conceptually great but the execution was horrible: a filet mignon, an inch thick, dusted with breadcrumbs soaked in oil. Also cold and fridge cold in the center. I asked for medium well and it was "bleue" in the center. The domino potatoes not salted and floating in butter. The eggplant was ok. The bread was a chewy piece that was finished before they brought the butter. The dessert, okay. Prices are New York Per Se level. As a final note, the grill that they bring to the tables smoke the entire room that makes you feel you are in a Parrilla of the Costanera in Buenos Aires. Only good thing is the smoke fogs the chitah.

Yelp
There are a couple very unwisely located extremely crowded centers where all the servers and bussers restock and cash out and hangout. Our table was located next to one of those. Where we were sitting there was a woman who kept coughing and sneezing all over everything then rubbing her hands all over everything but never spraying or wiping or washing her hands. Not just that but this same woman kept yelling and screaming and berating everyone. It was really repulsive and repugnant. It seems to be a trend these days at certain types of establishments, or maybe just a resurgence is being tolerated for whatever reasons, but I really do not find it acceptable in restaurants, especially not at this price point. All things considered, I really wish we had chosen somewhere else to celebrate our Anniversary. Otherwise, the food was just okay. The room IS pretty, though.

Fred S.

Yelp
The drinks were a joke. (terrible pour, ridiculously priced). Main course came out before we finished appetizers. Waitress had poor timing at every interaction. The manager took over our table and tried to make up for our experience. Food was okay at best. I will never return.

Yelp
Good food. Make sure you wear a button down shirt or coat even though it doesn't say anywhere. Skip no need to eat here

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere. Definitely would recommend to go. Busy live music.!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I should preface this review by saying it is a painful one to write. As an Argentine and a longtime fan of Mallmann's (I own all his cookbooks), I went to La Boca with high expectations. Maybe the first red flag should have been the name: a restaurant with prices excessive even by Manhattan standards named after one of Buenos Aires's most iconic working-class neighborhoods. Since our table wasn't ready when we arrived, we went to the bar. My wife told the bartender she likes her cocktails spirit-forward and dry. He suggested what sounded like a riff on a martini, promising to make it even drier for her. What arrived was a treatment for scurvy: a few ounces of lime juice with a hint of cucumber. We were eventually seated--followed by our drinks--and then left to wait. And wait. Was this a clever joke on the word 'waiter'? Finally, the sommelier came to discuss wine with my wife. His descriptions of Argentine bottles (which we know well) made little sense, leaving us to wonder if he'd ever tasted them. We ignored his advice and ordered a bottle we trusted (at prices that looked like they'd been listed in Argentine pesos). Only when our cocktails were nearly gone did someone appear to take our order. We went with beef empanadas, eggplant milanesa, "Francis's thick milanesa" (beef), and domino potatoes, a Mallmann classic. Then came the bread and butter. Argentina has great food, but bread is not our pride. In that sense, La Boca was authentic: the bread, presented in a lovely silver dish, was cold and rubbery. The butter was equally cold. When focaccia and baguette share the same texture, something's gone wrong. We gave up and sent the basket back. The empanadas arrived next. Delicious--except they were cheese, not beef. We kept them, though, and enjoyed the filling: cheese balanced with thyme, paired with a chunky tomato water touched with vinegar, bright and summery. Still, not what we had ordered. To their credit, the staff quickly corrected the mistake, and the beef empanadas were also good. The mains followed. The eggplant milanesa was excellent: tender slices, breaded and fried, laid over smoky eggplant purée with avocado and a spicy sauce reminiscent of sriracha. A dish imbued with the spirit of smoke. The "thick milanesa," on the other hand, was a creative way of ruining a milanesa and a filet mignon both at the same time. The beauty of a milanesa lies in the crust-to-meat ratio and, of course, the crustiness. Here, it seemed like the beef had been brushed with a lukewarm mixture of breadcrumbs and oil after the fact. Since it hadn't been grilled or cooked on a plancha, the tenderloin itself lacked its own crust as well. A double loss. The domino potatoes, meanwhile, were undercooked and unsalted--like a spa cleanse. Normally I don't mind when chefs withhold salt shakers, assuming they've seasoned the dish properly. But if they haven't, diners should be spared the runaround of requesting salt three separate times, only to be brought a pepper shaker each time. (The salt and pepper shakers are very pretty. Unfortunately, they're also identical.) Bottom line: go elsewhere. The décor and live music were memorable; everything else would be forgettable if not for the price tag. Yes, restaurants need time to find their rhythm, but watching what felt like the entire Argentine soccer team parade by every 30 seconds without eye contact or awareness of our table didn't inspire optimism. The empanadas were excellent--but you can get equally good ones at Criollas (two locations in town) for half the price. Maybe this restaurant is an elaborate lesson staged by the real denizens of La Boca, who understand the value of great food, aimed at people willing to overpay for mediocrity. If so, touché. If not, we were simply had.

Effie P.

Yelp
The dining room is beautiful. Very comfortable seating, spaced apart from other diners and the lighting dim with a warm glow so everyone and everything looks beautiful. The food unfortunately was sub par for the price point. For a chef who prides himself for his Argentinian roots and his genius versatility with meat, this was a huge fail. The meat cuts were terrible. My husband had the skirt steak. I had the beef tower. The meat was not tender and nothing about the presentation was refined. I could have had better steak at my local neighborhood steakhouse and spared myself the terrible experience for $100-$200 per entree. Not to mention there are no mid range wines. Only one decent $100 bottle of red. Nothing in the $60-90 range. In a city with tons of options (just last week I had an exceptional dining experience with Michelin level food for less than what we paid for this terrible experience), this is not acceptable. Needless to say we wont be coming back and I highly doubt it will last another year or two.

Camron M.

Yelp
The place is beautiful, I went here on a date so it was perfect for the occasion. The food is amazing and our server, Grace, was wonderful. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the mood for a good Italian place.

Jjj B.

Yelp
The service is absolutely horrible. They messed up so many times like they made our friend wait at the bar when all of us almost all of us were seated, and they told us that only one person was there which was a lie. After that, they messed up our check and they gave us the wrong check from a different table and didn't realize until we had to ask that this wasn't on our bill. After that, they said that we could go up to the speakeasy anytime we wanted so then we went they let us up. We had someone walk us up and then when we got up there, the person closed all of the doors. And they said we couldn't go in and that only one of us could go in and I told them it was my birthday and I wanted to take photos and they said oh two of you can go in and take photos, but I'm not taking photos after that. Just rude and unprofessional.

Sarah K.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance. Food was pretty good. Felt like I was in Miami. Will definitely for a celebration.
