Best Restaurants in Dallas’s Bishop Arts District | Eater Dallas

"Looking for outstanding sandwiches and salads? That’s the raison d’être of this joint. The menu changes frequently based on what’s seasonally available, but during a recent visit, the burrata and tomato sandwich with white bean hummus spread was an instant favorite. La Bodega serves rotisserie chicken in half or whole portions, and the chicken panzanella salad also earns raves. Unsure of what to order? It’s always a good idea to ask what the staff recommends. Service is all takeaway, so plan to walk to a beautiful spot and enjoy this treat." - Courtney E. Smith

Holy guacamole, this place was a solid 10/10. Between the five of us that ate here, everyone was in complete and utter joy. Delicious is an understatement when describing this place. Fresh, high quality and nourishing food. You’ve got to come try it out. Worth every penny! We shared the whole chicken, mixta salad, quinoa salad, veggies, bread and hummus. Chicken was delicious and not your Costco rubbery rotisserie chicken. I’m hoping heaven tastes like this because that was phenomenal. Lady at the front offered exceptional service and was great at recommendations. Only thing that could be improved would be a better outdoor seating area/tables and chairs. Wonderful experience!!

Google
Spent 40 dollars for take out on what I thought were all large sizes, a chicken panzanella, a chicken salad and a tabouleh. Definitely not worth the 40 dollars. The panzanella was super under seasoned , the chicken salad was underwhelming in taste as well, the tabbouleh was seasoned okay but with two out of the three “large” salads being small it left a lot to be desired. I don’t know if it was a mistake on their part or if this is accurate but for 40 dollars I expected more. This was supposed to be for 3 adults to split.

Google
I love this healthy and delicious option for lunch or dinner in Oak Cliff. The menu has a variety of salads, sandwiches, sides and take home Chicken options. Today we tried the pulled chicken sandwich with fries and it is addictive! The pulled chicken, garlic, goat cheese and caramelized onions on fresh bread is all to die for. The fries were hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. We also took a whole chicken home for dinner with a side of roasted potatoes. I love the art throughout that's on the wall for purchase. Overall, a fantastic experience!

Google
I wanted to try something new and found this nice little grab and go place. The staff was friendly and helpful. I asked what the most popular sandwich was and was told the pulled chicken, so I ordered it with a small salad. I had to wait a short time for the food and I left to go eat. I was not particularly starving and I’m glad I was not. I was a little surprised it was a mini-sandwich but it was very tasty. I would have liked more chicken on it and I ending up using all of the chicken with two pieces of bread to eat. The salad had a wee bit too much vinaigrette. It was a nice light lunch. I would come back and try something different.

Google
Love this place! Really good rotisserie chicken, awesome salads, and fantastic sandwiches. We also love the various soup specials in the fall and winter. There is minimal outdoor seating but no real inside seating for dining, but it is a great place to get food to go. If you look at a menu online you can also call in an order ahead of time. If you're lucky, you'll also get to see Leftovers, who mingles around outside, and get to give him some scritches. Picture of Leftovers included.

Google
Had a really bad Monday but this pulled chicken sandwich with fries really saved the day for me. The fries were freshly hot with nice lemon herb seasoning and a side of a tahini yogurt dipping sauce. The proportions of the sandwich were perfect, not too much or little. Pulled chicken was tender, caramelized onions were delicious with the arugula, and goat cheese added a good tart flavor to the sandwich overall. There’s a big parking lot across from the place. I will have to come back to try their rotisserie chicken (not sold between 3-5pm).

Google
Absolutely love this little spot. Since they came to Bishop Arts a couple years ago I can say my stomach has been very happy 😉. Got the special today, and good lord it was amazing. The crispy chicken skin addition was *chef’s kiss*. Definitely worth a visit to this neighborhood staple!

Google
This restaurant is amazing! The fries are so good—I order them all the time. The grilled cheese, soup, and chicken skins are delicious too. No indoor seating, but there are outdoor tables in summer.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. There is NO chicken 3-5pm!! We didn't know but luckily it we got there 4:50pm so only had to wait a short while. Chicken was tender, pretty moist. The skin was delicious - crispy, plenty of salt/spices. I can see why you'd want to add this to any entree. If health wasn't of concern, I would opt for just the skin. The meat is for the gains (haha) Fries were pretty good but I prefer the extra crispy kind. This was crispy, and a bit soggy from soaking up the chicken juices (yummy) but not my favorite type of fries. Personal preference. Chicken panzanella salad is good for two or three meals. PLENTY of ciabatta bits in the salad to make it seem like you're eating a literal chopped sandwich. I wish it was toasted and less bread. More greens. The goat cheese is plentiful and adds to the heaviness. Overall not bad. It was a bad combo with the half chicken and fries though. Overall a fun venture outside of downtown to a cute repurposed home. Plenty of street parking available.

Yelp
Servers were super friendly. Food came out super fast. Got the special salad with chicken and it was so good! More of a take out than a sit inside. Also got a quart of bone broth! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
After I fractured my hip and was discharged from rehab, I started physical therapy that lasted four months. That's a long time for a foodie to just window shop restaurants. There was a parking space right in front of La Bodega and although there's steps, cane and all, I managed to make it into the lovely ordering and take out space. Take some time with La Bodega's menu. There's a lot going on. The evening's rotisserie chickens were whirling in the oven and perfuming the air so we were smack in the afternoon window when there are no chickens to order; but still plenty else available. I ordered what turned out to be the tastiest lemony garlicky white bean hummus with veggie and ciabatta dippers. So very good. My husband had the Pulled Chicken Sandwich and side salad with fried chicken skin as a sandwich add on. He said the carmelized onions and the crispy skin really were terrific. It's a great menu which no doubt changes. It's very Mediterranean and everything sounds delicious, even the whole and half chickens! We'll be back!

Yelp
Great little place! Gorgeous space with limited outside seating. They specialize in lunch items and use great quality ingredients including their star the organic rotisserie bird/chicken. The also sell products and ingredients from small businesses. All were very cute including the packaging for a women owned sustainable tinned fish business. The menu inside was a bit hard to read with the layout but they have cute business card with a qr for the menu as well. Took me second to figure out what I wanted that didn't have chicken on it. But ended at the fattoush salad. Only took a few minutes to get my small salad and it was great! All the ingredients were obviously fresh and super flavorful. The ciabatta bread was plush and toasty and had an amazing flavor. It was a bit heavy on the vinaigrette but even that was extremely flavorful and made for a nice start to my day. Loved the ladies working there. They were very kind and obviously great at what they're doing in that kitchen.

Yelp
The prices here are outrageous, $24 for a rotisserie. The cashier even spins the register around requesting tip, customer after customer, for what? What did you do to make this graping more enjoyable? It felt like an episode of curb your enthusiasm. Over priced, pretentious employee havin, rip off of a former house turned restaurant in a historically poor neighborhood. Places like this make me question if the trajectory is actually a good thing for the community. Go if you want to laugh at the irony. Food sucked and not because I couldn't afford it but because I didn't want to accept the going rate of $30 for my partners 1 sandwich, fries, and 1 drink. I'm not their target market and won't patronize again but please consider one the many family owned restaurants in the area.

Yelp
My new favorite place in the area. I have tried all sorts of things in the past few weeks, including their famous rotisserie chicken (so juicy with a good amount of meat), a few different salads, sandwiches, weekly specials, and froyo. Everything is good--very flavorful and fresh! La Bodega is a neighborhood gem! The parking situation (street parking) can be a little tricky though.

Yelp
A quaint little rotisserie chicken, sandwich and salad shop. The chicken is organic and the service friendly. First time I came they were out of rotisserie and had a 3 hour wait for more. The hours are weird, I would call before you come or check out their website. They are closed every Saturday! Now let's talk about the food. I love the salads!!! Especially the sardine salad which is surprisingly good. I've had the chicken and the sandwiches. While the rotisserie is good the flavor doesn't really transfer to the meat of the chicken itself. It's like it's not brined. That's not to say it's not good. It happens to very delish on their sandwiches.

Yelp
The chicken in this place is insane! Such good food I still think about it. I had the salad and it truly was one of the best salads of my life. Very simple but so flavorful I cannot wait to come back and eat it again. Could not recommend this place enough as all of our entrees were delicious. The fries are super good and would highly recommend trying their fry yogurt sauce with them as it's so unique and adds such great flavor! Truly such an incredible restaurant. The only complaint is seating is very limited so if it becomes very packed that might be an issue but the food was so good I would sacrifice and sit on the sidewalk to eat the food. Also, their service was pretty quick for such a small team!

Yelp
We got tuna and chicken sandwiches. They were so good. Highly recommend the white bean dip too!

Yelp
I love this place, the food is soooo good and fresh! The people here are so incredible kind, and the overall vibe is amazing. It's cute inside and out, it's quickly become one of my favorite areas in oakcliff!

Yelp
Overall, the experience was underwhelming. I felt that the food was extremely overpriced for what it was. I paid $55 for two salads and a side of crispy potatoes. That in and of itself would not have been as big of a problem if the food actually had complex or developed flavors, but it was just bland.

Chris N.

Yelp
They should really put somewhere on yelp that they have no chicken from 3-5 i drove all they way from Rockwall to try this place for the first time it's 4:20 and they couldn't be accommodating. The lady then proceeds to tell me it's on the door and the counter but what good does that do for new customers who don't know that?

Erica L.

Yelp
I tried this place today. I bought a few items, but this is what I've eaten so far. The chicken had a mild flavor, but delicious and the skin was good and crispy. I'm actually eating the sardines & herbs now. Very refreshing. It reminds me of a Niçoise salad. This is very very good. I wish I would have gotten the large. Very nice and clean place. I'll be back.

Yelp
The pulled chicken sandwich , instant fan. The goat cheese and onion, the pillow soft bread, woo! I loved it. 10 out of 10.

Yelp
We finally made it over to La Bodega after getting their hours correct! It's a cute little shop that you either take your food to go or sit outside. I had the chicken giardinieria which was pretty good, very saucy. To me the star of the show were the fries! They were perfectly crispy and seasoned. I would come back just for the fries. The staff member taking our order was nice and took time to explain the menu as well as let us know we can customize any of the sandwiches.
google avatar

Shannon K.

Yelp
The food, service, the ambiance is incredible. Skye, the owner, and Bryan, the chef, crank out the most luscious, juicy, and flavorful rotisserie chicken I've ever had. The panzanella chicken salad is my top choice, but the chicken girardiniera sandwich is incredible, too. Pro tip: do not leave without fries and dip. Your life will forever be changed.

Yelp
I was pretty excited to try La Bodega. The two staff there were friendly enough. However it was kind of underwhelming. I got the chicken salad sandwich with fries. Honestly, this probably wasn't the best thing to order at a Latin rotisserie chicken shop. At first I didn't think there was any chicken in it at all, before I realized there was just very, very little. I felt it was more of a "Mediterranean salad with a seasoning of chicken morsels sandwich" if I'm being critical. The fries were pretty good, but they're just refrying a frozen product. I wish more places took the challenge of making fries in house. Overall for about $20 with tax and tip, La Bodega offers overpriced underfed sandwiches. If I want a Latin sandwich, I'll grab a Cubano with plantain chips nearby.
google avatar

Celine W.

Yelp
delicious food, call ahead to order if you want to skip the wait, priced appropriately for a small business that does organic chicken
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
I thought this was a Latin rotisserie based on the name but it wasn't.The chicken was very dry I had such high hopes for it so I'm kind of bummed.

Yelp
Everything was great! Great ambiance, food, and environment. I got 1/4 white chicken, fries, and a small fattoush salad. Everything tasted great!

Yelp
Loved it! Super convenient to park and hop in. Very cute inside. Got our food really quickly with no problems. The chicken was super juicy and tasty. The mixta salad was perfectly balanced, fresh, and delicious. The fries were some of the best I've had. Definitely going to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the pulled sandwich and it was amazing. Fries were greatly seasoned and the sandwich itself was very tasty, it also comes in a nice to go cardboard container. The customer service was also great, the cashier was nice and the chefs were also very cheerful.

Andrew T.

Yelp
Tried this cute sandwich shop for the first time. I ordered the sardine sandwich and i highly recommend it. Also tried the pulled chicken sandwich and it was excellent as well. Great crispy fries on the side. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Finally made it to La Bodega last night. I've been meaning to go for the longest, so when I needed a protein to go with our family dinner, I was delighted when I remembered that La Bodega makes in house roasted ORGANIC chicken. We brought home a whole chicken and an order of fries. The chicken was tender with that perfect sticky, crispy skin and it was very well seasoned. I love that I was wrapped in butcher paper rather than the usual hot plastic containers that rotisserie chicken usually come packed in. The fries were delightful with a tasty seasoning and a yummy fresh dill ranch dip on the side. They also had frozen yogurt and lots of tasty looking sandwich selections. This place is an Oak Cliff Mom's best friend. Stop in to grab you main dish and fries then just add a salad on the side and dinner is done. Give this place a try, you'll be sure to make it one of your regular spots.

Yelp
Was super excited to try La Bodega as my husband and I love a good rotisserie chicken (who doesn't?!) and they did not disappoint! Convenient parking lot across the street and easy in/out of the Bishop Arts area. I was warmly welcomed by all 3 team members (one of which was the owner I think based on articles I had read). I ordered a whole bird, fries and hummus. Could not stop eating the fries and they were gone before we even finished the ten minute drive home. They are perfectly seasoned, crispy outside, soft inside - yum! The hummus tasted so fresh with a nice hint of lemon or zest. Hefty serving with fresh veggies and some very good dipping bread. The chicken fell of the bone and had just the right amount of flavor. Tender, juicy, flavorful, we absolutely destroyed it in minutes. Highly recommend for a great, light (and healthy if you skip the fries) meal! It's nice to have a new option for dinner!

Yelp
Was so impressed after my first visit, I came in a second day in a row. The pulled chicken sandwich is hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, no exaggeration. The fries were also super well seasoned. On my second go 'round, I had the pulled chicken sandwich again and tried the hummus, which was incredible. I think I've found a new weekly lunch spot, and I'm here for it!

Yelp
Top 10 must try again. Now that I'm on yelp I can leave you a proper review. Delicious with good service.

Yelp
My first, long overdue, visit to La Bodega was fantastic! Had the Pulled Chicken Sandwich with fries, which was stellar. The sandwich is such a great combination of flavors. Totally satisfying. The fries were tossed in an incredible seasoning blend and were among the best I've ever had. Service was very friendly and I had my food in no time. The place is bright, clean and packed with charm. I can't wait to get back and try the rest of the menu. Be advised that it is take out only. La Bodega is a neighborhood treasure.

Yelp
What a great spot! Friendly efficient service and spectacular food. Everything we have tried has been delicious, the tuna dado sandwich and fries is my by go-to order. Love this place!

Inia F.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal.. Would come back times a billion.. finally found some solid takeout in Dallas . Ps - get the hummus!

Angelina A.

Yelp
If you want a simple yet delicious sandwich, this is the place to go. The fries were addicting. Definitely will be a regular here!!

Raz V.

Yelp
Half chicken with fries is so good! Perfectly seasoned and juicy. Yogurt dill sauce is a nice addition for the fries.

Brooklynn M.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. I always get the pulled chicken sandwich and I crave it at least weekly. The food is always made fresh and they always have a fun special going on depending on what veggies are available. The service is always fast and most of the time I call ahead and my food is ready when I show up. I will always recommend this place to people who come to visit bishop.

Luis M.

Yelp
Great recipes of chicken salads and love supporting small businesses. The fries are delicious too

Chelsea D.

Yelp
This place is so delicious! The pulled chicken sandwich is delicious and fries are always hot and fresh! They always have specials that are delicious! The winter citrus salad special was phenomenal, hope it comes back!! My favorite lunch spot

Amy L.

Yelp
The food is really good, but really expensive. 20 dollars for a half chicken and fries? If the prices weren't so high, I'd eat here several times a week.

Christina T.

Yelp
Delicious! Simple menu but rotisserie chicken is very tasty. Must try it. Would only suggest they could possibly offer sauces in the future.

Ale D.

Yelp
I had the Mediterranean sandwich and the mixta salad today. Let me tell you the sandwich was amazing! I loved how everything meshed together and how refreshing this sandwich was. The flavor combination works so well together; it is just so good and I will be coming back for it as much as possible. The salad looked simple but the flavor was perfect. I am really looking forward to trying everything on the menu!
