The 21 Best Restaurants In Marseille - Marseille - The Infatuation

"La Bonne Mère opened in 2015 and has been mobbed by neighborhood families ever since. As such, it’s hard to get a table unless you come before 6:45ish. The move is to get a pizza to-go—they’re all good, but our favorite is La Paysanne, a white pie with mozzarella, goat cheese, and honey. Call in your order or have a glass of wine at a sidewalk table while you wait. Then, walk a steep 10 minutes up to Notre-Dame de la Garde, a.k.a La Bonne Mère, a Romano-Byzantine basilica that’s the icon of Marseille, and find a rock or low wall to sit on. The view up here, especially at sunset, is a beautiful sweep of the city and the ocean, only improved by the crunch of your pizza crust." - sophie friedman

Absolutely delicious pizza in an old school style pizza bar. Casual and comfortable ambiance. Great crust, both crisp and chewy, made of organic flours with tasty sauce. Simply great. Don’t sleep on the vinegared Italian anchovies. I was thinking of those for days.

Excellent pizza and very fast service. We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened for the evening. The waiter was very friendly. The pizza options were good, and arrived very quickly. I had one with goats cheese and a delicious tomato sauce, far tastier than your average. We had great beer and wine by the glass

(If I could give zero stars, I would) I had one of the worst dining experiences ever here. The pizza made me seriously sick — I was violently ill within hours, which makes me worry about their food safety and hygiene standards. To make matters worse, the staff were incredibly rude and dismissive when we asked simple questions, as if we were inconveniencing them by being there. Given the sky-high prices, you’d expect at least basic courtesy and food that doesn’t send you home sick. Sadly, you get neither. There are plenty of other places where you can get better food, better service, and not risk your health

Excellent ! The crust is amazing. The tomato sauce out of this world. This is a truly amazing pizza. Mine had the pesto and mozzarella balls. The pesto gave a basil and garlic zing to the tomato sauce; really loved it The prices are not cheap but it's a wonderful place to spend a moment; the boss lady is super nice and it feels like a 'true' place. Will be back. Make sure you reserve.

We went there, four tables free outside but they wouldn’t let us sit outside. Then we wanted to order pizza with two drinks (12€ each per drink) but we had to order a pizza per person because they ‘weren’t a place for a snack’. Very rude and condescending staff.

Walked by to have a coffee and tiramisu before seeing the sunset at Notre Dame. Two tables were occupied the rest of the restaurant was empty. Waiter comes back to tell us we cannot order because everything is reserved? What a joke and completely unnecessary way to lie about not wanting to serve us (whatever your reason is) be honest or don’t work in hospitality.

My pizza was delicious. Marinated anchovies was a blast, very very tasty. The place is really nice, it's a good mix between a fancy place and a typical restaurant.

Luckily got a table without a reservation! Pizzas were absolutely delicious - thin base, perfectly cooked, fresh ingredients! (Top: Parma. Bottom: La Bonne Mere)
