La Borde en Sologne - château & spa (Centre-Val de Loire, France) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Loire Valley is home to some of France’s most impressive châteaux, many of which have been turned into museums. A few function as hotels, like La Borde en Solgone, an elegant 17th-century estate that’s been in the same family for generations. Its current custodians are a couple of youthful Parisians who’ve wisely left the property’s best features alone: French and English gardens, a private lake, a working farm, and the stone castle’s original hand-painted murals and grand fireplaces. Modern additions, like a pair of swimming pools, a Tata Harper spa, and tennis courts designed by French tennis champ Guy Forget, add to the appeal without diminishing the old-world charm." - Tablet Hotels

An exceptional stay in a truly magical setting. The hotel, the grounds, and the surrounding forest are absolutely stunning are a true piece of heaven in the heart of the Loire. Every detail is carefully curated, and the atmosphere invites you to relax and disconnect completely. The services provided to explore the forest, such as walking paths and bike access, are a real plus. The wellness facilities makes the stay almost perfect: a well-equipped gym, a beautiful swimming pool, and elegant, tranquil common spaces. Our room was perfect: tasteful décor, impeccable cleanliness, and a truly cocooning feeling. The room service was discreet, and the reception staff were simply outstanding, kind, attentive, and always helpful. Unfortunately, the restaurant service was far below expectations. While the food was good (albeit with a rather limited menu), the service was consistently disorganized and inattentive, even on evenings with a good staff-to-guest ratio. Basic requests like water or bread had to be repeated multiple times, and in one instance we had to go directly to the kitchen to ask. Water and bread coming after the main dish upon multiple requests. On another evening, we waited quite a while before someone came to take our order, while guests who arrived after us were served first. This wouldn’t be acceptable in a regular brasserie — and it’s even more disappointing in a hotel of this quality with that level of prices. It’s a real shame, because the restaurant’s poor service, combined with the lack of nearby restaurant alternatives, would make me hesitate to return, despite everything else being outstanding. I sincerely hope the management addresses this issue, because the potential of this place is immense.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband. The Chateau was amazing. The staff was very kind and helpful. We loved our room and it was very spacious. I definitely recommend it if you want a luxurious experience without the crowds and noise. They have a lot of activities. Also super clean rooms. I definitely recommend room 11 !

We spent a wonderful 3 nights here with our two young children. The grounds are absolutely stunning, and we made full use of the various facilities. Our children loved the kids club and the little excursions to the play park and to see the animals. They enjoyed feeding the rabbits too. Jenny in the kids club was an absolute super star. My son has additional needs and she worked with him beautifully. What a huge asset she is to the hotel - friendly, kind, accommodating and with lots of good local knowledge! We went on bike rides (they had kids seats), on the boats - both free to use - and had 2 excellent meals in the restaurant. The croque monsieur was a highlight. The breakfast is varied and delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The family pool is great and has three levels, so our youngest splashed around in the top section (around 30cm) and our older son in the second section (around 50cm) and then there's the main deeper pool for the adults too. There's also an adults only pool which was nice when the kids were in the club. |They currently don't do kids lunches - more snack stuff aimed at adults during the day until 5pm, so that's worth knowing so you can plan around. They booked us into a nearby pizza place for dinner on one of the nights too.|A luxurious and lovely weekend had by all - thanks so much!

A nice park, a nice castle but a poor service. We could not use the dining room as there was a party and were « offered » a cold dinner at € 100provided we took it in the bedroom before 6:45 pm. Not a word of apologies. The bathroom is made of cheap materials. Having taken a laundry bag to put my shoes after walking in the park, I was charged 4 euros for it having spent in one day 2000 euros in spas and room… unreal and laughable 😂😮

My favorite part was the calming atmosphere. After spending a week in Paris this was perfect. The staff was so easy and accommodating. They worked hard to make us feel comfortable. You will need a car if you don’t want to have all your meals at the chateau. We loved the bike rides around the property. I liked seeing the animals and enjoying the quiet afternoons in the forest. Jenny and Reuben were especially helpful and so pleasant ,but everyone that we interacted with was very nice. I will return next year.

Beautifully restored chateau in an idyllic setting! Accommodations were very tastefully decorated, light filled and bed was very comfortable! Bathrooms were spacious. Wonderful for a romantic getaway yet also very family friendly. Beautiful grounds, great for walks or biking. Very welcoming staff and food was excellent! It was truly a wonderful stay. Can't wait to return!
