What a delightful experience--especially for my mouth!
La Bouche is a neighborhood wine bar that feels altogether like being in a different time and place. Small and thoughtfully decorated, the open concept layout with bistro, bar, and lounge seating allows for a fully sensory experience. And after the owners stopped by and spoke in French to my husband, I really felt like we'd been whisked away to Paris. The authenticity didn't stop there.
We opened a beautiful Burgandy my French companion was excited about. The menu also offered by-the-glass and flight options; I noticed many at the bar top were pouring bubbles, which told me there was variety of wines for any occasion really.
We started with a mixed cheese and meat board. What made this stand out to me vs other places was the accoutrements of fresh and dried fruit, cashews, and cornichon. The cheeses and meats were exquisite too, but we would have loved a pate vs two salamis. A note for next time. Also, the bread was outstanding.
Then we moved on to the salad Parisian. This was unexpectedly my favorite thing we ate. And very authentic! The perfect execution of greens, eggs, bacon, pomegranate, crouton, and homemade balsamic dressing. Un vrai délice. Plus, more bread.
We finished our dining experience with an almond financier and chocolate-dipped congolais. We sipped on Pastis (merci beaucoup, Alexi et Alexandra) and snacked on cute, mouth-shaped gummy candies just before we left. A very nice and memorable touch.
Our server, Jessica, was knowledgeable and welcoming--and just the right amount of attentive. Between the people, service, food, wine, and ambience, this is a five-star spot to which I can't wait to return!
