Google
This is the nicest bakery run by the kindest people! Got a LOVELY vanilla whipped cream cake for my daughter’s birthday. It was a big hit. Their fruit tarts are also the best I’ve ever had.

K Y.

Google
The best Korean bakery in Howard County. I especially love their birthday cakes! The tiramisu cake is a game changer! Delicious!

Christine L.

Google
After I finish my grocery shopping from Lotte, I love to stop by here and buy some red bean bread and ☕️ coffee! Small bakery store, but pretty 👍good for Korean breads and cakes!

Google
Stopped by for the first time while dropping off my car nearby for a repair. So tasty!! The two ladies working were so lovely! The woman who was helping me as I paid even brought out fresh custard buns for me to take instead of the ones I got off the shelf! The plain latte I had was good and piping hot! Prices are very reasonable as well. I’ll definitely go back!

Google
I stopped by for the first time while I waited for my Thai food pick up (Thai Aroma is right next door) and tried 2 different cake slices. There was a wonderful variety of different cakes and cookies.I will definitely be back!

Google
One of the best Korean bakeries in Ellicott City. They have delicious cookies, cakes and other baked goods. I always get their cake for any special occasion. The dark chocolate cookies and the cupcakes are my favorite treats from this bakery. The ladies at the bakery are also really sweet and very polite. They always welcome you and make sure you get what you need. The only issue I have is that they have a limited amount of cake flavors for a bakery and also limited amount of savory baked goods. I think they have four or five different flavors with four different sizes. I'm sure that if you custom order a cake, there are many more flavors available with different toppings but that's not the case for their ready made ones. Overall, it's a pretty good bakery with a pretty good selection and great customer service.

Google
Very lovely experience here! I was able to pick up a cake for my friend and the staff was very patient and helpful. They answered any questions I had. We all really enjoyed the cake and have plans to come back and try the mocha flavor cake some time. The store is very clean and easy to get to as well.

Emily M.

Google
Small shop, but great selection, reasonable pricing for fresh handmade cakes and pastries! The staff are always so nice too. We used to get our pastries also from another shop sometimes but now when we want Korean sweets, we always get them from here.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this gem hidden in plain sight! I was searching for a breakfast spot in the area, and Google led me to La Boulangerie, an amazing Korean bakery . The women working there were so kind and helpful, and I could tell they were tickled by my excitement as one of them walked me through each baked good in detail. I ended up choosing a fruit tart(that I'd already dug into when I snapped the Pic) , a bag of almond cookies, a garlic pastry with garlic butter, and a raspberry macaron for my sister. The cookies and that tart gave me LIFE . I'll be saving the garlic pastry for the morning, but if it's anything like the rest, I know I'm in for a treat. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area as I know I'll definitely be paying them another visit soon

Yelp
Tucked away in a nondescript shopping center in the armpit between Rt 29 and Rt 40, La Boulangerie is the sort of place you find, more than go to. Curious about a French name with Korean Hangul on the windows, you walk through the looking-glass into a brightly-lit bakery space laid out with shelves and trays and display-cases of beautiful breads and pastries and cookies and general ministration to the needy carbivore. The lovely Korean auntie behind the counter came out and walked me, starry-eyed, through her offerings - from cookies to milk bread to traditional Korean pastries and bean breads. I tried a savory Korean vegetable donut, clearly fresh-fried, that reminded me of a very rich crab rangoon; and a mocha bread like a tender brioche roll stuffed with slightly-sweet mocha whipped cream. Both were fresh; looking past the display case, you see the kitchen where they make-and-bake on site. An absolute local hole-in-the-wall delight. We'll be back to check out more of their repertoire. As much as I want this place to take over the Rt 40 Dunkin, my doctor and my A1C numbers are probably glad they haven't.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! This small, quaint bakery is like walking into a magical little world of flavor. You can immediately tell this is the go-to spot for locals to grab their daily pastry and coffee--there's a real sense of community here, including a diverse clientele. The staff are warm and friendly, and you can see why people flock here every morning. The pastries are absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of sweetness and lightness. Whether it's fluffy buns, super light milk bread, red bean cookies, or unique twists on traditional American treats, every bite is a taste of something special.

Yelp
such an underrated gem! they have such a nice variety of breads and cakes. their drink menu is really nice and extensive too:) They have a couple tables and seats as well to enjoy the goodies. They do bulk orders and preorders for custom cakes as well. Definitely check it out if you are in the area & support local businesses^^

Yelp
11.27.22 Stopped in around 9am on a Sunday morning while I was at Lotte. Saw the Sweet Rice Red Bean as I love the red and green bean pastries. Picked up one of those to try and the Green Bean pastry. They just came out of the oven and were nice and warm. Loved the red bean. It hit the spot. I know now going forward to lightly reheat as it was so much better. The Sweet Rice Red Bean will be my number one pick when I come here. Highly recommend.

Jannet C.

Yelp
I came here and got a mocha roll cake, a whipped cream bread, mocha bread, and mocha cream bread. Everything was good. The only thing is that I wish that the whipped cream bread had more whipped cream in it, and fresh fruit, like strawberries, Instead of canned mixed fruit. Service was nice and friendly.

Yelp
Good selection of bakery including slightly alternate styles that people might still be into. Coffee as well which I wish I had gotten because most places are closed except for convenient stores. Even many fast food places are closed. They all deserve a break!

Yelp
Bakery, cafe and boba bar. This cute little bakery has a variety of options for baked goods, pastries, coffee and boba. I love their twist glazed donuts and custard cream filled bread. It's always made fresh. The boba and espressos are delicious too. If you're looking for a celebratory cake, swing by and grab a cake. Their fresh cream cake with fruit on top is my favorite. The ladies in the bakery are friendly from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. Add this to your list to check out. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Came here for a few good desserts before a family gathering. Their sweet cakes were really good! Had a full on cake for a birthday celebration, it was so delicately decorated. Super fancy, exactly what you would expect for an Asian bakery! Jake n kevin

Yelp
A friend and I spent a quiet Sunday morning catching up over some delicious treats and tea. We were so early that everything was still warm from the oven. Staff members were friendly and helpful. The tables were a surprise, so we stayed warm while enjoying our delicious cream cheese bread.

Rosalyn M.

Yelp
I got this Blueberry Walnut this morning fresh from the oven. Still warm when get handed to me. I would say this is the best bakery along route 40.

Syl94563 ..

Yelp
Great variety. Fresh. Friendly. Very, very good pastries. And clean. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
This place was pretty good. A small Asian bakery selling absolutely delicious baked goods. I was looking to mooncakes which they didn't sell and instead left with yummy cream butter rolls that were so soft, lightly sweet and paired well with my morning tea.

Yelp
I always buy their castella for an easy mini cake but when i got home, i realized one of them was improperly packaged and part of the castella was exposed. The area was hard and dried out. How unsanitary. Now I need to cut it out for an uneven cake. Very disappointed and I guess next time, I have to closely inspect each one before I buy :/

Yelp
I was there a few days ago to pick up a sweet potato cake for my sisters birthday. We've started going there for about 10 years and never looked back at any other store. This place is reliable on the tastes of the cake and how it looks like. Not once did I have a bad experience while getting some goods from there. The cake was moist and the perfect amount of sweetness for me and my family. You have to try the sweet potato cake. It sounds a little bit iffy but trust me it's so good. I've been getting it since I was 8 years old.

Yelp
Wedding Cake- 7/15/22 delivered to Pasadena, MD. I ordered my 3 tier wedding cake from here & it was perfect! I have been coming to this place since i was a kid but initially didn't think of them for my wedding cake. I compared a lot of places & their cake was by far the best flavor & best value. They delivered on time and the cake was amazing. Sometimes American cakes can be too sweet for me. All 3 layers of different flavors were perfect and not too sweet, the cake texture & flavor were amazing! I'll add a picture to this review once I get the professional pictures back.

Yelp
All these amazing reviews and what I got was a box cake with zero flavor and whipped cream. Nothing more. This was for my mothers birthday in May and not one person liked it...even the kids had plenty left over on their plates which is unheard of. Extremely disappointed as the bakery smelled heavenly. The first unpleasant surprise was cutting into this cake and finding that what I thought was decoration in chocolate on the side of the cake was actually a ring of plastic that I now had to peel off, leaving a rather drab looking cake. The sign in front of this cake said mocha but the woman who sold it to me said it was going to be coffee I said either way I'll take it. The cake tasted of neither. Tasted like cardboard with whip cream on top, Because it was undoubtedly and I'm saying with absolute certainty-box cake ....there's absolutely no way that this was not a box cake. If that's your thing, go ahead but I'm used to a better cake than that. I paid $40 for this. The only good part was the fruit.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries in town. They had queen a man which is a rare find in French bakeries around the area. Loved every bite of it !

Yelp
I wandered over here to get some pastries after shopping at Lotte Market across the parking lot. It's a pretty small shop, so it's not going to have as wide of a selection as nearby bakeries. Their selection is pretty typical of a Korean bakery. Something I found to be a little strange was that they had multiple types of red bean-filled pastries. I mean, I like red bean, but some of that space could have easily been occupied by a pastry with a different filling. I still somehow managed to walk out of the store with three different types of red bean pastries, some custard pastries, and some buttercream bread. Out of what I brought home, I've only eaten their red bean donut which I thought was really tasty. It's especially good if you warm it in the oven at 300 F for 5-10 minutes before eating it. I'm sure the other pastries will meet my expectations as well. Again, this is a pretty standard bakery and I think you'll find the quality matches that of other bakeries nearby. Their selection just isn't as widely varied because it's a smaller store.

Yelp
It's better than others in the area including the new hip French influenced Korean bakery mostly because the food is less sweet and it's cleaner. The owners are very cooperative and I just witnessed the owner repeatedly bringing orange icing out until the customer liked the shade. They also cut some of the cake we mentioned. The tiramisu is fantastic.

Chi R.

Yelp
Bought a cake last week from this bakery. Being from out of town, I chose this place to support a local shop instead of other chain Korean bakeries near by. And that was a mistake. The service was fine and the cake appearance was nice. A very typical Korean cream cake with fruit on top. The taste and the texture, on the other hand, was sub par. The cake was dry. The edge portion of the cake inside was almost too hard. The cream frosting was okay but so much was used to cover up the crater in the middle of the cake. It was a good 2 inches thick right in the middle. The layers were uneven and almost disappeared on one side on one of the layers. Very disappointed and almost embarrassed to serve the cake to the guests. This was after having paid $40+ for a cake. I'm sure it wasn't intentional but their cake making skill needs to improve before selling such a cake at a premium price.

Yelp
The best place since childhood. Try the chicken croquette and tofu chips! I wish y'all would deliver to me!
google avatar

Yelp
This little Korean bakery ain't all that bad, but not all that great either compared to other Korean bakeries. Samples would make this place better and so would a good cleaning. Although not "dirty" there were things that made it seem not as clean such as dust on the model cake. The iced coffee was alright although the clear plastic cups leaked around the lid.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
They don't have many selections of pastries, but all the ones we've ordered seemed fresh. We've also tried their tiramisu cake and it was pretty good. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it's not horrible neither. Parking is a little sucky because it's in the same plaza as Lotte and it's always very hard to find parking there =P Bottom line: it's not bad... not my go-to pastry shop, but it will do if i'm craving it while shopping at lotte =P
google avatar

Donna Y.

Yelp
My family and I use to come here often for birthday cakes/ rolls. It was moist, fresh, and not super sweet. Now, the prices has gone through the roof and quality has suffered because of the absence of customers. I now come here sparingly for their mocha rolls ($10-15) and I like the ones with almond/nuts crusted on the outside of the roll. There is a nice comfortable seating area (2-3 tables) inside the shop but it's usually pretty dirty and often times been neglected. This shop shares a parking lot with a mechanic shop and Lotte Plaza (Korean Supermarket). On weekends, it's difficult to find a parking spot.
google avatar

Yaka H.

Yelp
A clean and okay-tasting Korean bakery. It's probably one of the nicer ones around (there's one in the Lotte Food Court, one in H-Mart). I find that the individually plastic-wrapped breads are a bit on the smaller side and run more on the expensive side when compared to Chinese bakery goods. This place has your typical Korean baked breads and cakes.
google avatar

Yelp
Loving this new found place.. Check the photos. Just be observant of days old pieces. Price is OK to me......dont have to drive to ROckville.
google avatar

Ma-e M.

Yelp
I did not like their bubble tea smoothies. It was too sweet and taste powdery but the pastries are fine.

Carina S.

Yelp
Korean bakeries are a dime a dozen in Ellicott City but La Boulangerie is one of the originals and still my favorite. It's quaint with delicious fresh products. It's definitely not as "hip" as some of the mainstream bakeries and there's less space for people to sit and hang out but the pastries are delicious and there's a lot of variety. I like this place so much that I got my wedding cake through them. I find western wedding cakes to be a little too sweet and rich for my liking. I wanted an asian style wedding cake, which for lack of a better word I consider "lighter". They were able to customize the cake exactly the way I wanted, delivered it and set it up for a very very reasonable price. Give this family owned bakery a try over some of the big "name brand" Korean bakeries.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
I like the basic bread and packaged baked goods but be careful with the cake items in the display fridge. I got a refrigerated roll cake here and when we started eating it, it was extremely hard and dry. I was actually surprised they would sell something like this. I've bought semi old cakes before but this one by far trumps all. I live too far away (45 minutes) to go back and ask for a new one. I only come to the area every once in a while when meeting friends and family. It's too bad because I really promoted this place to friends and family before getting the way-too-stale cake.
google avatar

Sarah O.

Yelp
I have shopped here for many many years. Yes, like other reviews said, despite the French name, this is a Korean bakery. I've bought everything from single pastries to 'mammoth' to tofu snacks to chestnut bread. Whenever we have a birthday, we drop by to get their largest sweet potatoes cake. It is amazing and you even taste bits of sweet potato. (It is a bit pricey, I think it's around $34) I've also gone to Shila Bakery and Tous La Jour, both on 40. I've had disappointments there but never here. The ladies here are all super nice, I will shop only here from now on for my Korean bakery cravings.
google avatar

Sandy S.

Yelp
Date: 03/06/2010 My dad's birthday celebration was ruined after my niece coolly said, "Ewww, a bug!" A four-year old found a live bug in her slice of whipped cream fruit cake. The roach was still struggling to free itself... Immediately, we all dropped our forks. Earlier in the week, my sister pre-ordered a $37 cake from this bakery for a Saturday pick-up. (We typically order from other bakeries, but thought to give La Boulangerie a try after recommendation...) In terms of product delivery, the cake was ready as scheduled. Presentation was typical of the popular Korean-style whipped cream fruit cake. They boxed and packaged it along with the candles and plastic cutting knife... Who would have thought to find such a horrible little surprising treat?
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
To the cashier: I am not Korean. Please stop talking to me in that language. Why don't you try English first for a change? If you are Asian looking at all, be prepared for the people at this bakery to bombard you with incomprehensible sounds (unless you happen to actually understand them - more power to you). This place is not cheap; it's also not on the level of highway robbery yet. Think ~$1.40 for a bread. There are a few things that are remarkable about this place: 1) red bean streusel bread. Probably the tastiest thing in here, it's a kind of like a red bean pineapple bread but rather than being topped with a flaky cookie it's covered with a decadent layer of thin cookie and streusel bits. Amazeballs. 2) the people who come here are all kinds of interesting. One time we saw this old guy wearing a silver PSY suit complete with shades and a walking stick. He told me a joke in Korean to which he laughed like Santa, and then walked away. 3) no real salty stuff here. If you're looking for hot dog rolls or pork sun rolls, go elsewhere. this establishment is for getting diabetes only.
google avatar

sinjin k.

Yelp
Nooooooooo, it's not french. Nooooooooo, they dont sell lingerie. Nooooooooo, it's not cheap. It's a Korean Bakery! Yeah, I dont know what the deal is with the name. But it is a Korean Bakery, and this is how I know; overpriced buns, overpriced cakes, overpriced treats. But Im gonna bump them up to 3 stars. Why? The excellent attentive service I was greeted by two lovely young ladies. Why dont my good looks have this affect everywhere I go?
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
It's a small Korean bakery, with bread, cookies, bubble tea, and creative looking cakes and cake rolls. I enjoyed the red bean chestnut buns - sweet, nutty dough surrounding rich, dense red bean paste. They were not too sweet, filling, and 4 small ones were around $4. I didn't try the bubble tea because I was too full, but it looked good. It was a nice little bakery with a variety of unique Korean baked goods, however it wasn't so great that I'd make it a point to go back.
google avatar

Clint U.

Yelp
On the surface this looks like a chain. Nearly everything is packaged in cellophane wrapping...to keep everything fresh. I wonder if everything sold here is baked here or if they get their food from a distributor. And in spite of the French name, all the employees are Korean.....and wait....there are many Korean pasteries here.....many items filled with sweet bean paste. Americans can fill almost any pastry with apple filling, Koreans do the same with sweet bean paste. As i scan the dozens of pastries on the shelves, all neatly tucked in cellophane, I notice there are alot of Korean types of pastries here. So maybe they don't distribute...but bake everything there and wrap it . I spot Mo-Chi.....a rice based gelatinous soft outer covering filled with bean paste. I buy it....and its pretty good, all my kids eat it as well. Over time I will try more items here and adjust my ratings if needed. What makes this place special is the availability of Korean types of desserts.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
This was the final leg of my Korean food adventure......yum! I opted for a coffee and a streusel red bean pastry-thing. It was divine! Most of the desserts had some sort of bean filling....red bean....white bean.....green bean (lolz wth) Being a lover of red bean everything, the red bean pastry-thing rocked. It wasn't flaky, more yeast donut-like but baked instead of deep fried with a streusel crunchy crumb topping. When I think pastry, I think flaky pilsbury roll kind of deal.....maybe I'm just a hick or something? But the red bean roll/pastry-thing was awesome! Kind of pricey for a bakery, but the packaging is dear and the treats are nice. It's an occasional thing, so it is worth it. Coffee was decent also. They have bubble tea with some fixin's which is a nice addition. Btw...they cleaned that dusty cake that was mentioned below. The place looked pretty clean. +1
google avatar

Jane P.

Yelp
Ehhhh... This bakery is super small and they don't have a lot of options to choose from. I was constantly going around and around in the bakery trying really hard to pick pastries I wanted to eat. eventually, I picked two things that I wanted to eat. I got a cream filled sweet bread and green tea sweet potato bread. The cream filled sweet bread was pretty good, but it took a whole till I got to the cream all the way in the middle of the bread. The cream was so good. It was filled with cocktail fruits and the bread had really sweet and buttery crumbles on it. It was all topped with powdered sugar! Ehhhh don't get the green tea sweet potato. I thought I would like this because it has all the things I LOVE in it, but it was a disappointment. I think because it had a cream cheese flavor in it and I don't like when my food has cream cheese in it. The cream in the middle was mushy and the green tea swirl on the top of the bread was interesting. The flavors didn't really match up.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
I guess I'm the only person who likes it here. This is what I always get, without fail: -Red bean bun. It is fantastic and delicious. This red bean is one of the best foods on the planet. -Green tea strawberry boba tea. Again, way delicious. Best bubble yea I've ever had. I usually get out of here spending around $5. This place is a hike from my house, but I don't mind spoiling myself here every now and again!

Yelp
Despite its name, La Boulangerie isn't quite a French bakery- it's Korean. You won't find any authentic, or even Americanized French products on display here, and it's apparent from the moment you step into the store, erasing any potential deception as what products are being sold here. As far as I know of, there are quite a few Asian-style bakeries in the area. From my knowledge, there are at least 9 of these types of bakeries that sell the same thing as La Boulangerie around the area. Some are at the supermarkets, some are from large Asian bakery chains, and a few small stores like this. Out of all these bakeries, this one in particular still stands out. It's not any cheaper nor more expensive, but it does tend to make a few things in their selection that the others don't, namely the red bean streusel bread. None of the other places around here make it. They do have a few other unique pieces, but I don't know if they're permanent fixtures on the menu. I've never had a single bread or pastry from here that I didn't like, and even though there's a small booth for Shilla bakery in the same shopping center as this bakery, I always stop by La Boulangerie first.
google avatar

Caroline N.

Yelp
There products are not fresh. They reuse from the day before. I think this place is kinda dying in business and foot traffic due to the new bakeries on Rt 40, but if you happen to be in the shopping center, it's a good quick spot to grab something. Honestly, when I'm at Lotte across the parking lot, I still drive 2 min to a different bakery where I know things are freshly made. They promised me that their iced coffee was "really good." I bought it, tasted it, and did not drink after that sip. It was SOooo BAD; it was like drinking all sugar and water. (They probably used instant coffee packs... It was def not real coffee.. Was way too sweet to drink) The workers are nice though and it does have the same type of baked goods and desserts as other korean bakeries. But the decor is quite old and needs work to bring in customers.
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
I only come here for their Bread filled Custard and Macarons. There's so much Custard that each bite (even the edges) have Custard in them. This place has my favorite Macarons; slightly crunchy outside, very moist and slightly chewy inside. It's also not overbearingly sweet. I like!
google avatar

China S.

Yelp
I don't know much about upscale bakeries but, I've been going here growing up. They have so many different varieties to choose from in terms of buns with custards but the best thing about them is that if you come early in the morning, some of them are still warm. And who can't eat like 5 warm soft sweet bean custard buns?
google avatar

Suler L.

Yelp
Super yummy and fresh. Classic Korean desserts! Down to earth staff. Small and cute decor/location. Many delicious and different options of pastries! Cake there is ok- but not to sweet- light and very airy. Can't wait to visit there again. Totally/Definitely recommend the Green Bean and Red Bean Paste pastry.

Bianca Z.

Yelp
While La Boulangerie's pastries are pretty mediocre, their cakes are where they really shine. I would recommend any cake with buttercream icing!

Yelp
Whenever I eat at Thai Aroma, which is right next door, I stop by La Boulangerie to get an assortment of buns and bread. The most recent time I went, my husband got a small cookie/pastry thing of some sort. The next morning, he gave it to my daughter for breakfast. BUT she has a peanut/tree nut allergy, and he forgot to ask the salesperson if there were nuts in this item. By the time I realized that she had eaten the unknown cookie/pastry, I was already driving in my car on my way to work. SO, I called the bakery, and spoke with a Korean lady, whose English was better than I expected... so I was able to explain my predicament. I described the cookie/pastry to her, and told her what the packaging looked like, and she had no idea which one I was describing (there are so many pastries and cookies available). Finally I suggested that she text me a picture of some different cookies/pastries that she thought I was describing. After 2 photo texts and 3 phone calls, we were able to identify the cookie/pastry that my daughter ate. (Luckily there were no peanuts/nuts!) So I just had to share that story with you. It was really really nice and patient of her to help me identify the cookie/pastry. I'm telling you.... not everybody would do that. So THANK YOU to the lady at La Boulangerie. It's nice to know that there are still nice people in the world.

Yelp
The bakery with the French name and the Korean flavor sits across from the Lotte supermarket in Ellicott City. In the refrigerated case are formal cakes that run from $20 to $35 and come in flavors from chocolate to whipped cream to Korean sweet potato. In the front are shelves of individually-wrapped pasties and sweet breads. You can buy a selection and create a striking dessert plate for $10. I love the breads and buns filled with sweet red beans, but there are also varieties with hazelnut cream or sweet green beans along with chocolate-filled pastries, banana-shaped cakes and madeleines.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Is good but, I have had better Korean deserts...I am a big fan of the banana cake, the moon cake, egg tarts and red bean pastry they have there. It's convenient when I am going to Lotte plaza to stop in.

Yelp
I always come here after I eat at one of the Korean restaurants across the street. It's a regular Korean bakery, nothing too special, or too bad about it. It is small and the pastries are all OK. They don't offer anything particularly unique in their pastries but they taste decent.
