Stress Bake with These 7 Essential LA Restaurant Cookbooks | Eater LA

"Credited with jump-starting the city's artisanal bread movement in 1988, this pioneering bakery built its reputation on a signature sourdough starter developed from flour, water, and wild yeasts harvested from grape skins. The home-baker–focused guidance begins with a 14-day starter and maintenance regimen (it takes two solid weeks to develop), after which a wide range of loaves become attainable — from olive-herb bread to chocolate sour cherry bread." - Cathy Chaplin

Located inside of the Reno airport. Employees are very friendly. Not sure if they do ALL of their baking on site but everything in the bakery cases looks and smells delicious. Good coffee too.

Google
Service was friendly but my overpriced sandwich was inedible. The bread rock hard and the cheese 95% melted away and stuck to the paper. If you must get a sandwich, consider asking to them to warm it up for less than their standard time. Or stick to the pastries.

If you want to have a good memory of your trip, don’t get get anything at this La Brea! Horrible coffee and terrible service

Ray B.

Google
Horrible. 10 people deep in line and the lady leaves the register. Only Alicia is working now and has to do everything. She sat on her butt at the bar and chatted while the guy working sat at B4 gate and they chatted across the entire restaurant. My food was cold to add insult to injury. Alicia didn’t even know what buttons to press for waffles and pretzels. Terrible leadership and lazy employees!!

Google
My low score is not because of my direct experience, it was because of the woman next to me. She ordered a bagel with cream cheese. The woman helping her handed her a cold bagel. So the customer asked if she could have it toasted, the employee then takes the bagel and puts it in the toaster and turns to the customer and tells her "the next time you order a bagel, be sure you say toasted bagel if you want it toasted". Her comment was so rude that it made ME unconfortable for the customer. If it's normal for your bakery to serve bagels cold, then the employee should be asking if her customers would like their bagel toasted, most places do not serve these cold.

Google
This place doesn’t deserve 1 star. I mean sure, they were out of tuna salad (at 10am), gave me a cold (in the middle) turkey panini, and my bill was >$30 (for 2 paninis and 1 bag of nuts). But the one lady behind the counter was hustling. And this is pretty much your only option in the B gate section (there is also pizza and gift shops).

The manager D. Erke needs a job ouside of dealing with the consumers or a very long vacation To smooth out the abrasive tone, Unfriendly attitude towards customers and staff...and missing sales. Do not eat there, avoid indigestion.

Excellent friendly service at 4:30am! Cafe mocha was delicious!! She was all alone and was crazy busy! Pay her double, she was working for two.

Yelp
I got to gate C6 around 7:50 a.m. and La Brea appeared closed. After asking around, I discovered the employee was finishing his break in 10 minutes. I came back and ordered a cup of coffee. He said it would be finished brewing in 4 minutes. Then he said it would be FREE bc I had to wait! What a nice guy and a good cup of (free) fresh Joe! What's more, my wife and I used to split a breakfast sandwich and latte before flying out of RNO in the mornings. They were always so tasty with the melty cheese on the sourdough breads. But now we're getting divorced. *sigh* Anyway, as the song goes: "Don't cry for me, Argentina." Instead, come here and get good food, friendly service (from Marty I think), and leave a little something something in the tip jar if you think he deserves it.

Yelp
They had a lot of variety of types of food but not a lot of variety on the actual food. Another words they may have a Mexican bar but only have tamales and tortilla and beans and rice. The pasta bar basically had spaghetti

Yelp
The 2 women working here on 6/15/23 at 11:29am turned me away and said they were closed, despite the hours stating otherwise. I went to the restroom directly across from the business, when I exited 3 minutes later, they were finishing a transaction with a customer who showed up after I was turned away. I said to them, "I thought you were closed?" They mocked me and said "we are now". It was a rather uncomfortable experience as a black women traveling alone. Don't go here.

Yelp
A great place to grab a quick breakfast snack while waiting for your plane. They have a good selection of fresh baked goods, fruits, juices and breakfast sandwiches. I chose the bacon and egg breakfast sandwich. It came on a roll that was very tasty. The sandwich was surprisingly good. Sometimes the airport food can lack in taste and quality. There were choices for the health conscious, as well as selections for kids. I definitely will be back when I am in airport.

Yelp
I'm surprised no one has written a review about La Brea Bakery yet. Okay, I'll do the honor of doing the FTR of this place. La Brea Bakery is conveniently located inside Terminal C near the gate departures. It's a nice little coffee/ bakery place with great breakfast sandwiches. I love their Artisan breads! However, I suspect that they don't really bake their bread here and it's probably shipped from California. The one inside the airport just doesn't cut it. I've seen their products on shelves in grocery stores, but I'm sure it's even better when it's freshly baked in house. They should open a new location outside the airport because it's the only La Brea Bakery in Reno.

Yelp
The Reno Airport has such depressing food options. Thank goodness La Brea Bakery is here with decent choices (albeit, expensive). I'm glad I ordered a hot sandwich because the ones in the fridge didn't look fresh.

Yelp
I got a $9.90 sandwich, pricey but tastes great. I've tried many but this is in the top. Nice sweet, slightly tangy sun dried tomatoes, soft creamy chewy thick slices of mozzarella, basil to make it refreshing, pesto sauce that is just enough to balance out the cheese and tomatoes. Mmmmm LOVE IT! Will visit again when I am in Reno!

Yelp
Super friendly staff, especially at 5am in the morning! The breakfast sandwich (egg, ham, cheese) inedible...and my hubby has a pretty liberal palate. We each could only handle 3 bites and had to tap out due to the over saltiness of...the sandwich? Was it the ham, the cheese, or the sour dough bread disguised as salt bread? The older lady who overpaid for a $4 kind bar was smarter than we were in her breakfast choice.

Yelp
Arrive at the counter and cashier was too busy counting tips to attend 2 clients waiting in line. Ordered 2 lattes and a breakfast sandwich. Patiently waited on the side. Two customers were served before me. When the lattes were ready I inquired about my sandwich and received a blank stare. Cashier doesn't believe me and rushes over to the receipts to see if I actually purchased a sandwich. Runs over to the drawer full of prepared sandwiches to grab a new one neglecting to see the sandwich she'd left on the counter for my order. She was moderately apologetic and looked a bit stressed before I even ordered. Maybe just a bad day? But poor service is a no no in my book. All in all it took about 15 minutes for 2 lattes and a pre-made sandwich. Oh well, what can I expect with airport "cuisine", lol!

Yelp
For an airport eatery, this place had a decent selection. It specializes in sandwiches & salads, which is a nice change of pace from the greasy burgers and bar food in most airports. I gave the turkey, provolone, and bacon pannini a whirl & found it to be adequate. It wasn't $8.50 good, but it sufficed in staving off my hunger. They also have fruit and yogurt and cold sandwiches, so at least there are options. The employees were friendly & fast, so no complaints there. I was in & out in no time & I didn't starve waiting for my flight. We'll call it a win!

Yelp
Inside the airport by the gates. Their chicken salad looks much better than it tastes. It's the airport so expect to pay 10 bucks for a salad.
google avatar

Mahsa M.

Yelp
If I could give it ZERO stars I would. They can brew Peets Coffee but their sandwich making skills suck major crap!! And the girl behind the counter tried to "help" me to pay more for the "fresh" mozzarella sandwich and get it warmed because you got twice as much mozz as in the mozz panini. What a lie! I got the same dang panini sandwich basically under a different name for more money, waste of $10. And to top off the fact of paying more for the same measly mozz portion, it was overloaded with sundried tomatoes. Does that make it better?! NO!!! It's sodium tart overload not cheesy goodness. And I'm not some overweight complainer I'm just saying it straight, lousy waaay overpriced rip off!!!!!

Yelp
Good chai! I look forward to enjoying one while waiting for my flight. They are a bit on the boiling side, but I like to sip & not chug it, lol, so I'm good with it :) I didn't know there were multiple locations, but the one I frequent is directly across from gate B5.

Yelp
If you are stuck eating airport food, which, unfortunately I am sometimes, you probably won't get sick here. That's the best advice I can offer. The premade salad was mostly cabbage and raddichio, some pieces more browned than others, was edible, just not that palatable. The place was also out of bags, leaving us to balance our food until we could get on the plane. Best advice: eat before you get to the airport. Or wait, hungrily, until you reach your destination.

Yelp
Great for coffee, tea, or whatever hot beverage you desire. However, I did not enjoy their Egg & Cheese Panini. It was pretty bland. The scrambled eggs had no seasoning, and the cheese was not flavorful at all. I'm guessing they used mozzarella cheese. Considering their items are priced about the same as Starbucks', I would not recommend.

Jill D.

Yelp
I had the turkey, bacon and cheese sandwich. It was good but isn't a true panini. The sandwiches are pre-made and heated up. Mom had the egg, ham and cheese sandwich. She thought it was good. This place is expensive, but that is expected for a captive airport audience.

Tracey E.

Yelp
I ordered and paid for a breakfast sandwich, was told after they had no breakfast sandwiches in stock. They were relectant to give me a refund, called the manager to process, and 15 minutes later he showed to credit my card. He did not apolologize or offer any concession. Do NOT spend your money here.

Yelp
Amongst our few options at the reno/tahoe airport I thought a "bakery" would have some good sandwiches. I ordered the turkey avocado one which came to me pre made. When I opened the wrapping the bread was dry, and not very presentable. Only because I was starving I attempted to eat it. I ended up picking out the store bought turkey and some of the avocado. At $10 a pop I would at least expect my bread fresh. I won't be returning,

Yelp
Worst service ever! They are always out of condiments. Service takes forever for a beverage. Computer systems are down at least twice a month. Staff are courteous except when stressed. definitely not worth spending your money here...

Yelp
Terminal C is the La Brea we stopped at. It was nice, fast, and tasty. We both ordered coffee, and I had a slice of their lemon poppyseed bread. It was moist and delicious. Prices are what you would expect froma n airport. Would go again!

Yelp
This is for the La Brea in terminal B. Wife and I shared a nice bacon, egg, and cheese panini. Good strong coffee too.

Paul H.

Yelp
Wish I could give this place a zero. How do you have a sandwich listed at one price and charge more? "It is a system glitch that happens sometimes." This was after playing dumb to my complaint. Compared to a regular la brea storefront this is not remotely fresh etc

Brian M.

Yelp
Worst coffee I've ever had in my life. Hate spending $5 on a cup of coffee that you have to toss out after a few sips. Would of asked for my money back if my plane wasn't boarding. Sad face.

David N.

Yelp
Complete rip off. $8 for a "ham and cheese" panini. Approximately 1 piece of deli meat style ham. It was in the panini press for about 30 seconds. The best part of the $25 two sandwich meal were the bags of chips. Airport food is usually crap, but this was expensive and still crap. Probably best to stick with McDonald's at least they are somewhat consistent.

Wil M.

Yelp
Edgar was really friendly and efficient. He grilled a fresh motz sand for me because they were out of the grilled ones, but promised it was better anyway. The food comes pre-assembled, but was tasty.
