Handmade tortillas, 25 tequilas, patio, guitar trio, late hours

"Every person who lands in LA wants Mexican food, and your parents are no exception. The 70-year-old Westside staple is the old-school California/Mexican everyone can appreciate: gigantic burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, tacos, plates of meat, and all the unlimited chips and salsa you can handle. The atmosphere is casual and fun (with live mariachi music on the roof), and there’s a bright back patio perfect for soaking up another warm California night. And lots of margaritas." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, brett keating
"La Cabaña is a Westside landmark that dates back to 1963. It’s not the most inventive food in town, but you’re not at this Venice spot for a thoughtful take on the sope. You’re here for the shredded beef quesadilla and the culinary monstrosity that goes by “El Verde Burrito” (a coop’s-worth of chicken, beans, lettuce, avocado, and tomato, all topped with salsa verde and cheese). They have a fantastic back patio, margarita carafes, and sometimes, a mariachi band plays on the roof." - brant cox, garrett snyder, arden shore
"This 70-year-old Venice staple is one of our favorite Mexican spots in town, and one that remains criminally overlooked. Their outdoor patio in the back is fantastic, and the type of place where you can roll in with 15 friends and drink never-ending pitchers of margaritas without issue. The food is that kind of old-school Cali-Mexican cuisine everyone loves, and that means you and all your friends are walking away happy." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, brett keating

"As relaxing as the beach may be, there’s also that part that involves getting sand in every crevice of your phone and flocks of seagulls chasing you down. Head to La Cabaña instead. They’ve got one of the most colorful, relaxing patios around (with a fountain and all), ideal for winding down with quesadillas, then thanking the beach gods that a seagull didn’t poop on you. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the house mariachi band perform on the roof." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren, garrett snyder
