The 8 Best Places to Drink Wine in Paris, According to a Top Sommelier | Bon Appétit

"A low-key 14th-arrondissement wine bar prized for a tightly focused list of exceptional white Burgundy that reads like a dream for Chardonnay lovers; the cellar has even stocked coveted allocations from producers such as Domaine François Raveneau, and the room is often sprinkled with celebrities, giving the place an intimate, slightly clandestine glamour." - ByVictoria James

We visited this restaurant based on a recommendation, and overall, it was a great experience. The wine menu was selective and rich, with some excellent options. They serve food based on a fresh daily menu, which was a nice touch. The mussels were especially fresh and incredibly tasty definitely a highlight! Desserts were presented on a whiteboard menu, which gave it a nice local feel, and everything we tried was delicious. That said, not everything was perfect. The fried fish and calamari were disappointing both were quite dry and lacked flavor. The service was also a bit slow, and about half the staff didn’t speak English, which made communication a little tricky. That said, they were kind and did their best to help

Just stunning. A hidden gem in Paris. All our food was exquisite and of a very high quality for a reasonable price. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. We will be back

Great service from the staff. Enjoyed how they brought the daily menu out to the table, (on a white board) and was able to explain their offerings. Seating felt a bit cramped. Food wise, fresh seafood, and wine! My only grip was that the food had little to no flavors / taste. I would assume it was very lightly seasoned to accommodate a wide range of palates. I just expected more for the price range. The red fish was seasoned well. The rest not so. In my opinion, the vegetable sides I ordered had 0% seasoning. Absolutely enjoyed the small bowl of complimentary bread and clams. My Calamari and fried onions were a bit overcooked; however, still edible. Only able to order one serving of razor claim, due to them having limited offerings. Only my friend was able to enjoy. I sampled one of his and it was delicious.

We visited La Cagouille for our anniversary, and it was the best decision! The staff was extremely polite and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We especially loved all the seafood dishes – fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. The staff also helped us choose a wine that paired perfectly with our meal. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, creating a perfect dining experience. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant!

I had a BLAST at Cagouille. I went on my own during a business trip in Paris, looking to eat a Dorade. It was not on the menu BUT they had one left which they cooked for me. Great fishes, seafood, wine list. Average client age is 80YO which was fine by me as old french people know where to eat (i am french as well). I came again one year later. Still a blast! Come thete with your eyes closed if you like fish/seafood

Yelp
Really nice place we found just like that, I was so pleased by the extreme freshness of the seafood ( the little clams they give you at the beginning of the meal are just exquisite, the best I ever had really. The service was really attentive and friendly, I will return there definitely when I come back to Paris It's nice to find place like that Bravo to the owner (very nice too and hands on) and the all team

Yelp
I am absolutely baffled by the bad reviews at the bottom. This was, by far, one of our very favorite meals when we were in Paris. The cockles that start off the meal are a lovely and delicious starting point for some of the best seafood we had. The menu changes daily and they bring the chalkboard by the table for you. All of the sides are seasonal and the fish depends on what was freshest at the market. We had the razor clams and the raw sardines for starters. The clams were perfect- served with just a touch of butter so that the taste of the clams was the star. The sardines were simply prepared (just olive oil and vinegar) and, again, were left to star on their own. Fresh and delicious. For entrees we had cod and skate. The cod was lightly salted and whipped with mashed potatoes and the skate was perfect in lemon and capers. Service was professional and they explained how each dish was prepared. Oh... and dessert.... mille feuille with the nicest strawberries to be had this summer. Really, puzzled by the bad reviews. This place was a standout on every level to us and the prices were very reasonable. We definitely paid more for lesser meals in our week there.

Yelp
The restaurant has been spruced up and the food is even better than before. The hubby devoured his St. Pierre and I thoroughly enjoyed my mackerel. The wine list is well priced and very complementary to the food.

Yelp
Visited Paris for the first time with my girlfriend and we were looking for a nice seafood restaurant. We stumbled across La Cagouille and I ordered the salmon and she ordered the lobster both were made to perfection. I am a seafood lover and I can honestly say that may have been the best salmon that I've tasted. The next times I come back to montparnasse I will be returning.

Yelp
This is an excellent, neighborhood restaurant near Gare Montparnasse. It is small with an ever-changing, predominantly seafood menu run by a husband and wife team. It is noteworthy enough to be listed in the 2018 Michelin Guide, but has no pretension. We considered our meal not only to be delicious, but the best we had while in Paris. It is popular with Parisians so reservations are necessary.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant years ago when it had one star with a famous chef, M. Alamandou. They sell his book there, but alas, his influence has long gone. When I asked our waitress how a dish was prepared, she said she was not a culinary expert! Luckily, it turned out that she was not taking the orders. This place doesn't get high ratings from me. It is expensive for a place that doesn't know how to cook fish: its specialty. The mussels just grilled were great but anyone can cook those at home. The other fish were poorly cooked, terribly sauced and the fried sawdust chips or boiled potatoes that went with them were truly inedible. High points were the fresh strawberries and the well-chosen wine (my choice) but that is no reflection on the kitchen. It was August and a holiday weekend and this place was open. Otherwise, I see no reason to go there.

Yelp
I was surprised by the other (two) reviews of this restaurant, because after a recent visit I found the food as lovely and delicious as ever (I am an American, living in Los Angeles). My husband first went to this restaurant in November of 2001 and I have been back several times since. Take note, this place only serves seafood, no meat. (Although the tuna steak I once had was wrapped in delicious bacon). The side dishes depend on the season, in winter it might be potatoes dauphinois, in summer fresh haricot verts. The complimentary cockles that arrive before your starter are yummy and I've always had a really good meal here. the place can be a bit hard to find, I still sometimes get turned around.

Yelp
I was in Paris this past January and went to this restaurants due to its high marks including on lonely planet I was way too excited to have a great meal the best meal of my life!. The restaurant was a little hard to find. I always had respect for French cusine and this being top notch ( by reviewers ) I was really excited. I will say WOW but on a negative, the menu was way weird. My fiancee had sardines but they were raw and cold and disgusting neither of us liked it, I had ordered some sort of fish at $40 USD in a typical USA restaurant this woudlve been maybe $8 USD. I am still in shock why this restaurant has such high rating by French people. Yes its a nice time and very romantic, but the food really lacks. I agree 100% with LEE O. Its way overrated and prices are way expensive. I had travel around the world, but not been in France a lot so maybe my ignorance to this cusine is showing here. Would not come again. I will say though that I went to a Thai Restaurant in Paris and was the best ever ;) anywho... I will not come back here.

Yelp
this is my favorite seafood restaurant in paris! i was also surprised by the other two reviews. every time i am in paris i make the trek out to this place although the neighborhood isn't particularly convenient. i hope more reviews will be written to get a better idea about their consistency but i have never had any complaints!
