La Calaca

La Calaca is one of those places that truly captures the spirit of Coyoacán. Located inside a beautiful colonial house, the space feels warm and full of character from the moment you walk in. The architecture alone is worth the visit, with its traditional details and cozy layout that invite you to slow down and enjoy the experience. The service is excellent:attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The staff makes you feel at home while also offering thoughtful recommendations on both the food and cocktails. Speaking of which, the Mexican cuisine here is outstanding a must have is the guac with chapulines. Their cocktails are just as impressive, I loved the mezcalita de jamaica. One of the highlights is the artwork. Several murals by different artists, such as Cocolvu decorate the walls, giving the restaurant a vibrant and authentically Mexican vibe. The colors, imagery, with lots of calacas and catrinas all over the place make it stand out. La Calaca truly is a spot worth returning every week.

It was amazing that they were open on New Year's day as it was almost impossible to find anything open. They were open and so welcoming. The service the food and the atmosphere were wonderful. One of our dishes was the non-spicy chicken consomme soup and a side of aguacate. We have the lengua tacos which was so tender, the meat almost melted in your mouth. These were fantastic. I tried the burrito yucateco pebil. It was like a shredded pork shoulder That was so amazingly tender and a perfectly seasoned. I really enjoyed eating that. Also, the french fries were out of this world. Shoestring and perfectly crispy, fried in the freshest oil. Cocktails were also really good. We had a great evening and the service was wonderful. I believe there was live music at the time but we chose to sit in another room and it was not too loud.

Went here for lunch with a group of five after it was recommended by locals for authentic “Mexican-Mexican” food — and it didn’t disappoint! The menu offers many traditional dishes with rich, genuine flavors. Food, a bit on the meat-heavy side. The interior is beautifully decorated in a Día de los Muertos theme, especially fitting in these days leading up to the celebration. Warm atmosphere, good service, and tasty food. Definitely worth a visit!

Cool space. Food tasted authentic. I think if you pay in cash its cheaper as I noticed my bill was less vs the list price. Overall enjoyed my lunch/meal here. Got the burrito

Great atmosphere, great food, awesome drinks and the place is just amazing.

Had a nice lunch here. Service was quick and people were friendly. I had the chilaquiles torta which I loved. It’s a cool restaurant in a courtyard.

Good foods, delicious. They make Caesar salad in front of you.
