Where to Eat the Best Ceviche in Dallas-Fort Worth | Eater Dallas

"This Latin-inspired eatery in Lakewood has a solid reputation among the neighborhood’s most discerning diners. Here, you can order the classic Acapulco take on ceviche atop a tostada, which adds saltiness and plenty of crunch. Ask for a little extra lime juice and cilantro to gild the lily." - Amy McCarthy

Saturday morning found us at La Calle Doce with our besties. We wanted brunch, but also something a bit different. We loved all the metal decorations as well as the family pictures on the walls. The outside patio was also very inviting. The tortillas were hand-made and served warm with butter. We could not stop eating them. The sauces were also very tasty.

The service is fantastic. The restaurant is nice and clean. The waiter helped assist by putting our food in togo plates for us. The food is okay. The chips and Salas are delicious 😋.

They have THE BEST dining experience with every occasion whether it’s a dinner or quick bite to Birthday meet ups! My favorite Mexican restaurant!!! The staff are efficient and friendly. The homemade tortillas are a must! The seafood is my fav! You must try it all the fajitas, caldo de pescado, fajita nachos….

The food is super tasty and the service is excellent. Don’t stop going to La Calle Doce! I highly recommend them for their years of experience

Google
The atmosphere was really fancy and giving beach vibes. It gave off a nice fancy beachside restaurant vibe and the food was good. I definitely recommend the red sauce if you like sauce, and the green sauce is more herby and savory. The man singing was a great singer with a comforting strong voice, it hit me hard cause it reminded me of my dad that passed away a while ago (about two months) and it made me happy to hear a voice like my dad's. I definitely recommend grilled chicken, it's cooked really well here and paired with the spicy red sauce they serve for the chips? Pure perfection! The only thing wrong is just that it could've had more items, that's the only thing. Other then that, great option for a date or somewhere to go with your family!

Update I went again. Everything is very good. From the food to the service staff. To clean restaurant and bathroom. I live over a hour drive from this place. I’ll keep coming back. I really think the people here care about their customer. Good food. Good servers. Clean restaurant and rest room. Nice size servings. Beef fajitas were delicious.

Google
Company gathering of 10 for the holidays. Our waiter was very prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable he handled the larger party very well. Everything came out of the kitchen within minutes of each other. The food was authentic cooked to order and priced reasonably. Those warm, homemade soft tortillas were amazing! Several people got the nachos both chicken and beef and let’s just say there were no leftovers 😊 I had a simple cheese quesadilla but it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere and decor leave a little bit to the imagination and could use some updating.

Yelp
Delicious seafood spot with attentive service and cool ambiance. Highly recommend the sopa de pascado (so filling and delicious), as well as the ceviche.

Yelp
I called to inquire about reserving a couple of tables for a gathering. Unfortunately, the representative I spoke with was extremely rude--he repeatedly interrupted me and didn't allow me to finish a sentence. When I tried to confirm the details I had received, he responded harshly with, "I don't have time for you," before abruptly transferring the call to someone else, who identified him as the owner. I've had poor service from the staff in the past, and this recent experience confirms that the customer service standards here are disappointingly low.

Yelp
Seldom do high expectations get realized...... We had been looking forward to getting back here all weekend on our drive back from Waxahachie back up to Plano.... Great job folks !~ Thank you..... So very good today! .....

Consistently delicious food and cocktails, friendly service, laid-back, diverse clientele in a beautiful atmosphere.

Yelp
This is a cute mexican seafood place. I didnt think the food was special but they had live music and a nice ambiance. They were taking free pictures for the holidays and then selling you some other prints, which i didnt mind. I ordered the paella and none of the protein was good. Unflavored and some chewy. The rice had good flavor but that was it. One of my complaints was that the plating was terrible. Some plates were very empty- see pics of the brisket tacos and quesadilla. Very dissatisfying. Im not sure i would go back with as many places there are to try out in Dallas.

Yelp
Anytime I'm in Dallas, this place is a must! People and food are great! Staff was welcoming and warm when we stopped in for lunch! Chips were crips and delicious, and so was the salsa...ask for the spicer one. Warm tortilla with butter is a must. Smokey margarita was okay, a little too sweet for me! Had their enchilada and flauta and it was delicious. Rice and beans were good, seasoned well! Always a consistently good dining experience.

Yelp
Great food and fast service! They serve warm tortillas served with butter alongside the chips and salsa.

Yelp
A tex mex restaurant that heavily leans into the cuisine of the Yucatan. Nachos had a fairly thick cut of fajita meat on each chip. Not my favorite way of consuming nachos, but it's forgivable when the meat was able to break up with each bite. The calimari was unlike any other calamari I've had. Rather than rings, these were fish stick like in shape, but resembling fake krab meat in it's tenderness. While I'm not certain it's squid or something else, it was highly enjoyable! The Seafood coctel was pretty good. Generous amounts of seafood, equally portioned in the glass. While I HATE tomatoes and black pepper, the presence of both were both tolerable for some reason. Service was on top of things, being present for most of the meal. Although we were moving slower than other patrons, they were quite eager to clear the table as soon as possible.

Yelp
I recently had s meal at the original location so i got the same thing again as it was an amazing vegan dish! The spinach enchiladas without cheese! So delicious! The location wasn't my favorite, the walls were dirty and it didn't look clean. My alcohol beverage tasted like that weird cherry medicine from my childhood. It was a frost night and our waiter was very curt. Anyways the food was good and i was with a big group of friends so it was a fun time overall! I will go back to the original location if i want to eat here again

Yelp
Delicious lunch. I had AL MOJO De Ajo, filled snapper in butter sauce with rice and grilled vegetables. I brought home half the dish and it is another full meal. Huge portions. My son had the steak fajitas. This is my new favorite Our server was so sweet and thoughtful.

Yelp
So glad we finally checked out this spot! It's so pretty inside and very clean. Started with queso which was delish, and drinks which were also very good. I had the shrimp platter - wish there was more shrimp. The veggies and rice were yummy. Husband said the tacos al carbon were good. Personal preference, I didn't love the soup - it seemed really fishy. But my husband liked it. So worth trying! We will be back.

Yelp
Always the homiest service at at La Calle Doce. Wanted something warm so we went for some caldos. The spicy caldo de camarón was so flavorful and hit the spot for the cool weather. Go here if you want to feel welcomed and enjoy good seafood!

Yelp
Tonight I had the quesadilla supreme and a mango and peach frozen margarita. I had the regular size instead of the large and I would recommend that to anybody thinking that a large gives you more. The quesadilla came with sour cream and guacamole, and a nice side of jalapeños. The supreme quesadilla comes with shrimp. All meals come with complimentary chips and salsa. I was able to get seated quickly, but if you're coming with the group, I would recommend Colin for a table reservation.

Yelp
4 adults on 3/9/24, 4:30 pm. Meals: Brisket Tacos, Chicken Relleno & Cheese enchiladas. Cheese Enchiladas "only" few bits of onions. Of course, great flavor. Drinks: Pina Colada: good flavor, but no alcohol, as a very light weight drinker & she felt "nothing". Same for mojito; both Ladies are light-weight drinkers & no "nothing". Mojito-medium flavor. Margaritas were Good. Desserts: Flan was a heavy thick custard; not Flan! Whoever makes for y'all do Not know how to make Flan. AND, WONDERFUL SERVICE BY SARAH & COMFORTABLE SETTING! We've been there many times!

Yelp
I enjoyed the fajita chicken quesadilla appetizer with sour cream. Straightforward fajita chicken and cheese on a flour tortilla with sour cream is my preference. The side of guacamole with tomato and onion was terrible. My husband ordered the sour cream chicken enchilada, and it looked okay. The chips and salsa were disappointing. Overall I agree with the previous reviews. 3/5. I hope we see improvements in the future. I'd love to see an awesome restaurant pop up in Lakewood, where this restaurant is located.

Yelp
Mariscos for me, for me, for me!!! I started this evening with the Margarita Swirl and let me tell ya, DaMn GoOd!!! Great ambiance, clean bathrooms and exceptional service! Will return once I'm in town again!!!

Yelp
Friday nights they have music with two singers going table to table playing Spanish music. Drinks are balanced. I started with a Paloma and ended with a Oaxacan paloma with mezcal which was very good (strong). For food we dived into oysters on the half shell which were not cleaned very well, some had sand and were not cut from the shell for easy eating. The coctel de camarón was delicious. Overall nice evening, quick service and good food.

Yelp
A family friendly local restaurant with an extensive seafood-focused menu. Local musician comes in to play your favorite song tableside. Good ceviche tostadas! I wasn't the biggest fan of their mojarra but it was cooked well. Salmon was excellent!

Yelp
January 22nd we came for brunch. When it came time to pay the owner didn't allow us to use our Yelp coupon for a margarita bc it says house margarita and not flavored margarita, she said. Wich we were not aware but my point is, if your the owner and we are life long customers please don't die over 3 dollars. Keep them, we won't ever come back. Absolutely horrible customer service by owner lady! I'm a business owner, and my clients & their life long business will always come before 3 dollars!!!

Yelp
My favorite place turned sour last night and to add insult to injury on my birthday! My sister made reservations for 21 last night. My brother and his wife walked in putting us at a total of 20 and across the room I heard him yelling at my family "YOU BETTER NOT HAVE ANYONE ELSE BECAUSE I AM OUT OF TABLES!!!" I got up and quietly asked if everything was ok, and he responded "NOT IF YOU HAVE ANYONE ELSE COMING" I explained my sister made the reservation and it was my birthday so I didn't make my own plans and he just kept screaming, I expressed I felt really uncomfortable and asked if it was better for us to leave and he said "LEAVE IF YOU WANT TO GO". I couldn't believe it and I told my family we should head out because I didnt feel welcomed but they know it's my favorite food and insisted to just stay. I felt so humiliated. The irony, anytime anyone visits DFW I always take them here and present it as a local jewel. He was so rude he even gave me his entire name and yelled "IM THE OWNER." I want to thank the waiters and waitress that took care of us, specifically Tony who apologized profoundly, explained that this is their livelihood and to please not judge them for the owners poor behavior, I made sure we tipped extra. I can't help but feel so sad to imagine the type of toxic work environment they have to deal with that owner. The Food is great; I ordered my usual favorite tacos de camarón - definitely do not feel comfortable going back with such a poor customer service experience. The owner is very elderly perhaps he just needs to go golfing and retire because it's evident he can't handle the business stress anymore. He could've just approached the party planner and reminded her that the reservation was for 21 only to keep that in mind- By the way- we double counted and I have pictures: WE WERE 21 in total. We Did not take any extra guests. We drove from southwest Fort Worth for this.

Yelp
Gorgeous interior, live Mariachi singer, the fresh seafood soup is so good! We came with the parents after a lovely day at the Dallas Museum of Art. I've been to a different location but this one seemed bigger. I was pleasantly surprised to see a $3 margarita check in deal but am saving it for next time. Service was great despite it being a busy weekend. The portions are massive so I had lots of leftovers. I opted for three different fish tacos which were big and full of fish, unfortunately they pretty much all needed more seasoning. The charro beans and rice are classics and recommended.

Yelp
I have been going to this place for years. After you place your order you get the best fish soup I've ever had. I have never gotten anything I didn't like from the menu. My most favorite item is the whole fried catfish. It's to die for. You will not leave hungry.

Johnny R.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite places to eat for years. But, as of today no more. Got a free Michelada for having a piece of plastic in my $25 dollars plate that I did not finish. SMH owner said it did not grant a full credit because I ate most of my food. Nice way to retain long time customers!

Yelp
This is kind of the restaurant you tend to love because you went so many times in the years past and you kind of forgot how good it was. And i forgot about them. But like that one close friend that you grew up with that you haven't talked to in years, but ye yet, you pick up the phone you call them and you pick up right where you left off. That's the kind of restaurant La Calle Doce is for me. On this particular occasion, I only stopped by to get some soup for my wife. She wasn't feeling too well so I decided to stop in and grab some chicken soup. I didn't wanna just get any canned chicken soup, and I didn't have the ingredients to make it for her. So I thought, how about something more with feeling and thoughtfulness It was good, but not necessarily what my wife needed at the time because she needed more of a heartier chunkier type chicken soup because she was feeling under the weather. Overall as I waited, I just sat at the bar enjoying a couple of beers while they prepped my food. I was reminded of how much I enjoyed going to that restaurant in years past as I waited. I hope to visit it again because what I saw on the menu was eye-opening. I forgot how good of a menu they had.
google avatar

Yelp
Another wonderful dinner sitting at the bar. Fish soup and tilapia with seafood in a cream sauce on top. Plated in grilled vegetables and black beans. Amazing, like being on the coast and not in Dallas. Excellent service, masked staff. A place to go back to a again.

Yelp
This is my second opportunity. I really wanted to leave with a positive review and try to get a good glimpse of what other people described as good service and good food. First, they took a very long time to get my order in, which it really bothered my since the waitress was just chatting on the corner. Second, I checked in with this app and I suppose I got a 3 dollar discount that were suppose to be discounted by the waitress and she said that she didn't know how to apply it and that the front desk will do it for me. When it was time to check out she said that the margarita was different and that I wasn't going to get the discount. What a joke, the owner was there and she didn't bother to clarify or make things right. I'm never coming back to this restaurant. The food was ok nothing you can get at a gas station corner and the drink was ok to be expensive. If they care more about $3 than a customer coming back then it's their choice, not mine. My family had agreed on not coming back but I believe on second chances. Well, it wasn't worth it. I hope the $3 go a long way. Also, their place hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. Just check how bad their place stands. When now says you can hire anyone to clean your business for a good price. It's very filthy. I'll attach some pictures so that they can clean and be better at what they do which is serving a client.

Yelp
We decided to give this place a try and the food was very tasty. They have two salsas. The red had a nice spice and the green was served warm and had a nice citrus flavor. We tried different lunch specials and were happy with the food. The problem was when we wanted to pay. They had a Yelp coupon that they wouldn't honor. The coupon was for a $3 house margarita. They wouldn't honor it though. The manager acted as if Yelp did it without their consent. She wouldn't accept that it doesn't work that way. Oh well. Next time I am around Lakewood I know where not to go.

Yelp
Excellent, food , beverage, service, atmosphere . Friendly staff, not too loud, parking was convenient

Yelp
This is my favorite location though I grew up with the one actually on "12th street" or "la Calle doce" in oak cliff. I get the parilla because I love the grilled meats especially the sausage! Service is always exceptional.

Veronica M.

Yelp
Came to celebrate Mother's Day early. Around 8:15pm during busy hours but, waited no more than 5 minutes. After being seated attended right away and served hand made flour tortillas made right behind where we were sitting. Shortly after the waiter took our drink order while we snacked on chips and salsa that were provided. Food order was taken as well and, brought out fast. Overall great atmosphere and great tasting food and great service.

Yelp
We'll I made my second trip to La Calle Doce and there will a third just as soon as I'm back in Dallas

Yelp
The service was amazing and authentic!! The place was busy on a Saturday afternoon but we still were sat immediately. The food was amazing! But the snapper was super trash. Legit the ONLY thing I didn't like. It was 100% tasteless which made 0 sense considering it was coated with something. But listen. Everything else was amazing! The chips and salsa brought to the table were so tasty and fresh! The tortilla with butter they bring to the table was super tasty and warm and I mean cmon a bit fattening but totally worth it haha The plates we ordered came with their fish soup. Oh. My. Gosh. Possibly the best soup I've ever had in my life like seriously. Wow. The assistant manager was extremely disappointing. I let her know all my lovely compliments from the service to 95% of the food but when I told her how much I hated the snapper she just asked if I wanted a dessert. No ma'am. I'm sorry I'm not eating sweets right now and I don't think as a customer I should ever need to flat out tell you I don't think I should pay for something or request a discount. I personally just think the customer should never need to ask. And I always leave the manager at hand the discretion of their own offers. But for Lucia, she saw 90% of that snapper sitting next to a completely empty plate. You could literally see something was wrong and only offered me dessert. It was to my HUGE surprise I was charged full price. Honestly, makes me not want to go back... there are many restaurants in the city for me to not need to go back to a place where you willl only stand on your good dishes but not make up for the bad ones also.

Yelp
If you like Mexican style seafood this is the place for you. The shrimp cocktails are flavorful and the shrimp soup was delicious. Look out for the fresh flour tortillas which are complementary because they will fill you up fast. Nice decorating inside with a relaxing ambience and very good service. Definitely recommend for something better than typical Tex-Mex.

Yelp
I got food poisoning. After wondering how a person can suddenly become allergic to fish... google provided the answer. "Histamine toxicity, also known as scombroid poisoning, is a form of food poisoning. Histamine toxicity is sometimes confused with an allergic reaction to fish. Here is why: Some kinds of fish contain naturally high levels of the chemical histidine. This chemical can be converted to histamine by bacteria. *bacteria like when fish is not refrigerated correctly or ?* In an allergic reaction, mast cells release histamine which triggers allergy symptoms. So, if a person eats fish that has a high level of histamine, the response may resemble an allergic reaction to that food. *your body is not making the histamine, you have ingested histamine which causes the same type of reactions* Certain kinds of fish are more prone to cause histamine toxicity. These include tuna, mackerel, mahi mahi, anchovy, herring, bluefish, amberjack and marlin. The most common cause of acute histamine toxicity is the result of inadequate refrigeration or spoiled fish. This causes an overgrowth of bacteria which converts histidine to high levels of histamine." I had the ahi tuna cerviche at La calle doce. and a topo chico sparkling water. that was it. on the way home I got a terrible headache and felt disoriented. in my house my palms and soles of feet started to itch and my nose was stuffed up. got scared and took a sudafed pill for allergies since I thought I was having an allergic reaction. went to the bathroom and noticed a bright red rash all over my body. it did not itch but I felt like I was having chills. then my intestines purged till about 1am. google said best to drink water and let the substance purge from my body. google said histamine toxicity can send some people to the emergency room. I use to love the food here. I know accidents can happen but I felt folks might need to know that what seems to be a sudden onset of fish allergy might not be that at all.

Yelp
The drinks, chips and salsa are great but the food is to salty for me. I've been there about 4 times thinking it'll be better this time but I've given up.

Yelp
No wait time to sit on the patio on a busy Saturday night. The inside looked like an incredible experience, but I hate waiting Food was amazing and we were able to get the 1/2 nachos for free with the Yelp offer. Massive draft beers were only $6 and the shrimp enchiladas were so filling especially with the fish soup on the side. Will be back soooon

Yelp
Yummy my favorite are the Caldos are so delicious and the flour tortillas amazing Luv it. .

Yelp
Food is criminally bad. A very disappointing experience. Fortunately, no shortage of similar style restaurants in the area.

Yelp
Would not accept their own Yelp check in special... don't the businesses post those themselves? Very strange, the manager on duty didn't seem to understand what it was. Food is okay, really annoyed by the service issue. They said for us to call Yelp to tell them. Hahahaha I'm gonna call Yelp real quick

Yelp
Excellent pescado sopa and fried fish Their margaritas are very good. The ambience ranges from romantic and relaxing to festive.

Yelp
We love this place, and this Lakewood location is more convenient for us. (Just as good as the original Oak Cliff location.) Start with the Nachos de Cameron, and if you still want more shrimp - get the Cameron de la Plancha! Or the fajitas, or enchilads, or whatever - it's all good! Even if you never ask the roaming singers to play your song; you can enjoy the music. Good stuff! Plenty of parking, and fair prices.

Yelp
The service and staff here were great. Since it was my first time, they were very good about suggesting there most popular entrées based on what I had a taste for. I would say the food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. I've had better Mexican food elsewhere but I do give this location credit for their excellent service and staff.

Steven H.

Yelp
If you're desperate to eat and don't know quality,... this could be your spot. The food, or at least the "Brisket Tacos" or as the menu list it,.. Tacos De Brisket, that I ordered were "PATHETIC"!!! I lacked flavor! The Brisket, if that what it was, must have been boiled. They took no time to smoke it at all. The beans were also flavorless. Try harder, or at least, simply try a little!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here twice so far, I had the shrimp enchiladas last time and they were pretty solid. I like how they give you their fish soup complimentary as well as chips and salsa. When I came for my recent visit, it took a while to be seated, even though waitstaff acknowledged our presence and then ignored us for 5 min, only for us to be asked by someone else if we were being helped; I found that a bit rude. The vibe inside is pleasant with their live music- at times loud, but still enjoyable. The menu has so many seafood offerings. This time around I tried the shrimp tacos and my friend had the amigos tacos combo of mahi mahi, shrimp, and some other fish. My shrimp tacos were fine but my friend wasn't too pleased with her mahi mahi tacos- I tried some and agreed with her, it was definitely over marinated and a bit bitter. We both got margaritas and found them to be a tad bit too sweet. I would still come back here, I just wish they could've been a little more prompt and respectful in regards to seating clients down.

Yelp
Three words. Seafood. Mexican. Amazing. This place gives "Mom and Pop" vibes and I loved it. We went on Mother's Day, so a wait was to be expected. About 30 minutes later, we were seated outside (at our request). The menu we were given was slightly different from what was online, but I was able to order something from the menu I found online, which I really appreciated! We were given chips and 2 salsas, 1 green 1 red. We were all surprised that the green salsa was served warm, but we liked it more than the traditional red salsa. Both were great, and I had to stop myself from filling myself up on them (which I had the opportunity to do, because it took a while to get our food) Caldo de Pescado (Fish stew) was served with each dish (for the seafood dishes) and it was very delicious. If it was a cold day. I would have appreciated it more, but I loved the warmth it brought. Not as much seafood as I would have wanted, and the chunks were a little large, but I still loved it. For the meals, the portions were very large, especially for the price and considering it's seafood. Chile Relleno de Mariscos: I was underwhelmed. I saw seafood and Chile relleno (one of my favorite dishes) and I figured it would be a match made in heaven. While it was delicious, it was not as flavorful as I had hoped. The inside filling was a little mushy, and there wasn't as much as texture as I had hoped to find. The side of rice was delicious, but I was confused by why were given more of the side than the main dish. ($17.95) Camaron a la Diabla: This was different than your typical shrimp dish. You can choose between an extra spicy Mexican sauce or sweet & sour American sauce, and be the spice lovers we are, we chose to go with the Mexican sauce. It packed a punch, which was appreciated. The vegetables were a nice relief from the spice, but didn't have as much flavor as I would have preferred. ($17.95) Al Mojo de Ajo: If you're here on a date night, do NOT order this. The garlic flavor is prevalent, which I loved, but your date may not. I preferred the other shrimp more, but this was definitely yummy. It didn't feel as Mexican inspired as the other dishes. ($17.95) Overall, the experience was good but not amazing. Would I return? Maybe but I would try some other food. Would I recommend coming here? Yes because it has a good taste, plus the seafood all tasted fresh.

Yelp
Were there a 6th star, my most recent trip here would have earned it. My date likes to travel and this place is almost like taking a short vacation to a Mexican seaside resort. It was a stormy Saturday night and although the place was nearly full, there was a table waiting for me and my date without a reservation. It was along a mirrored wall which opened up the 2 story dining room. In the background, a wandering minstrel with guitar was playing Guantanamera. There were large groups of 3 or 4 generations with all laughing and smiling (the large colorful drinks might have helped that). As my date helped me with my mispronunciations of the menu (trust me, my German, Turkish and French is not any better than my Spanish), the musician switched over to a lively version of Happy Birthday (which was played to at least 3 others while we were there). Chips, salsa and fresh tortillas were placed before us. I struggled to decided which was best and decided it was a tie. We were right next to the tortilla maker. We started with Fondu Cancun which was unlike anything I've ever had. It was delicious and delightful. The cheese was tangy with a touch of sharpness. The scallops and crab were the best within it. More than enough for us, but I didn't want to waste it. I ordered the Al Mojo de Ajo Snapper and my date ordered the Chile Relleno de Mariscos. Both of these came out precisely as we finished our Sopa de Pescado which was very delicious. I should add that I'm not fond of Cilantro, but was able to skim enough off the top of the soup to make it very enjoyable. My date was almost speechless as she enjoyed the Chile Rellano. I tried a bite and agreed, it was phenomenal! My snapper was perfectly grilled and very full of the sharp flavor that makes the snapper special. The potato was well baked and prepared. The rice was some of the best I've ever tasted. The cabbage and pepper slaw was absolutely tasty and accented the flavor of all else. The service was attentive and never were our glass less than 3/4 full. The music in the background made for a perfect evening. Having a TV with the Rangers on kept most content as the Rangers hung on and won. The cost of this meal was much lower than one would expect for this short trip to Mexico. As we walked out, while the musician played Macarena, we were thanked by at least 4 members of wait staff and bar.
