The 12 Best New Restaurants in Nairobi, Kenya | Eater

"The Italian chef behind Nairobi’s Mediterraneo restaurants, known simply as “Chef Dario,” has branched out with his wife, Judy, to open La Cantina. The restaurant’s wooden tables and chairs, dark red cushions, and red-checkered napkins are reminiscent of a small family-run restaurant in the south of Italy, and the menu of handmade pizzas and pastas completes the vibe. Be advised: Save room for the tiramisu." - Soni Adriance

The restaurant has an old Italian vibe. You can tell it's been there for a while. It doesn't get busy, so it's perfect for those people who enjoy intimate dates or hangouts. They also play nice Italian music in the background which adds to the experience. We weren't lucky to get the pizza as the chef left early, but the chef managed to make us a wild mushroom risotto for me and pan fried fish for my date. The food was hearty and filling, the risotto was okay but the fish was perfectly done. The service was great, we had an attentive waiter who took us through the menu and assisted us when selecting our meals. He also advised one gets a discount if you post their meal and tag them on Instagram

Truly a hidden gem.. just off ngong rd and tucked away amidst an Italian Catholic fathers residence.. this is truly little italy 🇮🇹 in Nairobi.. very good pasta and exceptional vino with some of the most personalized service i have experienced in the city.. highly recommended for a lazy sunday afternoon.

Rarely do I give 10/10 rating to Nairobi restaurants but La Cantina deserved it! From the warm reception you get from everyone, the waiter, the server and the ever smiling hostess! To the serene, quiet environment that it's located in. Nestled along Ngong Road, the restaurant is an ideal place for a date, a quiet evening out. I haven't even received the amazing Italian food which tasted to me like it was prepared from scratch. Thank you to my friend who introduced me to this magnificent place!!!

I am not sure about the other's meals, but my lasagna was really good. Looking forward to eat it again.

Typical Italian food and environment, excellent service. I enjoyed the gnocchi which I strongly suggest to try. Eating them was like going back to my childhood, sitting at the table of my grandmother place, enjoying her handmade gnocchi during the Sunday lunch. Pizza is really good as well.

First and foremost it was a delivery, so I only comment the food. A pizza mushroom and ham. The mushroom are disgusting: bitter and smell of animal manure. I am not joking. Mushroom are grown on animal manure, but Cantina seem to have just picked and not washed them.... Avoid mushrooms !!
