The 19 Best Restaurants In Little Havana

"La Carreta is Versailles’ less famous sister restaurant—but the food is actually much better here. And while Versailles has a big-city feel, La Carreta is more rural. The ceiling is lined with straw hatching, the servers wear guayaberas, and it’s more casual. The place is huge—and so are the portions. The vaca frita is shredded into long delicious strips, and the maduros are crunchy around the edges. The mariquitas are crisp, and the mojo is so strong, it pricks the tip of your tongue. So next time someone visiting Miami insists on going to Versailles, take them to the ventanita for a colada and then cross the street to eat at La Carreta." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo

Thought the chicken Pasilla was top notch and flavorful. The rice and mashed potatoes were fine, but roll was stale. Salad was fine. Good meal for $20.

Google
This is an extremely expensive restaurant and I regret eating there. I asked for boneless chicken and it wasn’t completely boneless. You can see in the picture that the wing is still in the piece of breast with bones and skin. The rice and black beans was undercooked. There wasn’t anything good about the mashed potatoes. The passionfruit juice was small and sugary. The pudding dessert was good. But over $32 dollars for this??? Outrageous! They didn’t allow me to select yellow rice with pork - because it was “extra”??? Never Again!

Google
This is one of the few places you can grab some affordable food in the airport - and as a bonus, it's Cuban fair. They have a little "Cafe" on the side where you can pick up a quick bite, otherwise they also have the main restaurant right in the same area.

Google
This location is inside the Miami international airport America air terminal. The ambiance is casual and relaxed. Food is not worth the price. We had home fries cold hard. Cornbeef hash cold unappealing. The Cuban sandwich was basic and Ok. Service style is cafeteria style. Lunch and dinner may be a better option. We had breakfast.

Google
So bad that this doesn't have an option of a minus star. Service here by Dayli was the worst, her attitude with poor customer service. After I walk a lot to get this place that was recommended by a family member long time ago, sent more than $50 in 2 plates, and charged me $6.25 for a side of red beans that wasn't mentioned before charge me.(looking the size, I imagine they charge me for the container and the letters too) I will never stop in this place again. 👎👎👎 Hope a manager read this review and send this employee to a customer service training, unless they don't care about reviews.

Google
Pretty varied menu so that drew us in. Cafeteria style (grab a tray and move down the line). Friendly staff. Food was pretty bad. Cuban sandwich was insanely dry and inedible.

Google
We ate here several years ago so we were looking forward to eating here again but were disappointed in the new menu. Prices were way too high and the food wasn't very good. We spent over $50 for our two meals. The good thing was the helping was large enough for leftovers.

Google
By far the best restaurant I've been to at an airport. Affordable well balanced home-made food served by super friendly people. Can't recommend enough

Yelp
I recommend this restaurant! Every dish here is made to perfection, with Love! It is as authentic as it gets It's the real deal, Cuban. They are very consistent, and my favorite thing is, when you order their Pan con Lechon (roasted Pork sandwich with slivered white onions and MOJO sauce) you can order some extra MOJO on the side! Their servers are all superb, very kind & courteous. The Ambiance is quiet, clean and comfortable! Highly recommend all their locations. Though, my personal favorite is in Hialeah, where I lived my first 27 yrs!! Thank you, LA Carreta for the Best food, and fond memories of Home!

Yelp
I lived in South Florida for a while and going to La Carreta restaurants (there are a few) was also a memorable experience. Warm friendly Titis and Abuelas ready to feed you with huge plated portions of traditional Cuban food. The branch at the airport is no different. It's huge compared to other restaurants in the terminal . If you're traveling with a big goup this is perfect and lots of room for to set down carry on bags etc ,not cramped at all. They offer grab and go options if you are in a rush but this is the place to be if you have a longer layover . Stick to your rib ,tummy filling grub and drinks. Need a pick me up get the Cuban coffee, you'll be awake for days hehe. I love their Carne con Papas. Yummy succulent chunks of beef and the most tender potatoes.potatoes. Picadillo ,another favorite. They have specials that come with one or more sides. You won't leave hungry or disappointed. It's in the D terminal at gate D37 but even if you're elsewhere in Miami's massive airport its worth the free air train ride to get here.

Yelp
Chicken - dry and cold Rice - VERY dry and cold Plantains - best part but mediocre Water - by far the best part Okay, I can speak Spanish, but not one word of English was spoken to me. I'm not in Cuba. I've eaten at La Carreta .... Don't waste your time at the airport , stick to coffee and empanadas at the to go stand. Peppermint and toothpick nice touch, delivered by busser.

Yelp
To be in an airport, they were excellent! I had to pass through Miami, so of course I went on search for the Ropa Vieja dish (shredded steak in tomato base) ! Saw someone eating it and immediately located this spot. Fast service and happy staff! They gave me so much food, I had the leftover for lunch the following day!

Yelp
Picked up a Cortado and Cuban to take on the plane. Was better than nothing but neither was as good as cafe Versailles!!
google avatar

Yelp
After reading many reviews about La Carreta's Cuban Churrasco and yellow rice, I thought I should try it despite it being a bit on the spendy side... but it's the airport, everything is expensive, so that doesn't really detract from it (also the price comes with two sides, so it's actually reasonable). The reviews were spot on. The stake was tender and soooo flavorful, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. This is cafeteria style dining... which means it's quick... perfect for an airport. Definitely highly recommend if you pass through this airport.
google avatar

Yelp
After visiting Turks & Caicos, there was no way I will have a layover in Miami without having the best Cuban Churrasco in Miami next to Puerto Sagua. I specifically chose an MIA layover versus CLT to have this mouthwatering dish. I know it doesn't look as great, but believe me, the flavor is so delicious! This was at the airport and they had cafeteria style dining.
google avatar

Chelsie L.

Yelp
I was hesitant but I'm glad I got food from here. The rice was so flavorful and the plantains and chicken was delicious. If ever in the Miami airport and on that side of the terminal, I would get the steak next.
google avatar

Alaina R.

Yelp
The service here is always fast, and friendly. The food is absolutely top notch and authentic. I have yet to have a dish I didn't like. The coffee is amazing as well. The lines go fast, just have your ears open for your number when you order a coffee. They are quick and ready!

Yelp
You come to Miami and know that you are going to go for some Latino food/flavors. In the airport, La Carreta has a corner on the market and do their best to give you the real Cuban experience. The staff is friendly but the numbers of patrons is overwelming and they are always playing catch up. I had the chicken plate. Flavor, execellent. Unfortunately, I may have been the first to order it all day (early lunch) and so my chicken had been on the line for a while and dried out. Sides of rice and plantains did not have any issues. When in the Miami airport, I will come here again, but I will never expect the quality that is available out in the city proper.
google avatar

Jessie B.

Yelp
First time eating here (visiting from LA) and I loved all the flavors! We ordered the camarones, oxtail, sampler, roast pork, lamb and picodillo. Everything tasted good! The service was great. Berta was our server and she was very nice!!! Thank you!!!!

Yelp
My wife and I were traveling home from vacation and passed through Miami International Airport. As we landed we both wondered if there would be some good Cuban food at the airport for our layover so we started looking at options on the way to our next gate. We found La Carreta and were excited to give it a shot! It was a bit confusing at first as there were a lot of people sitting at tables and we couldn't find a hostess or anything. Then we noticed a line on the other side which must be the entrance. We realized it was a cafeteria/buffet style restaurant where you grab a tray and go through the line to order your food. We are typically not a big fan of these types of restaurants but were hungry so we decided to keep going. We each got a meal special that comes with one protein and two sides. My wife ordered Pollo Asado and I got the Ropa Vieja. When it came to the sides, I asked for the Frijoles Negros and was told no. I asked about the other beans and again was told no. Confused, I asked what the options were and was shown three different types of rice, some mashed potatoes and some mixed vegetables...no beans. They said if I wanted beans I had to pay extra, not sure why they wouldn't allow beans as a side. I chose my rice and didn't get a second side because I didn't want more rice or mashed potatoes. The server did give a heaping amount since it was one side, so that was nice. We then continued through the line for drinks and to pay, again it was a bit of a confusing layout but the drink server guided us through. Once you pay you have to walk around with your trays and find a place to sit, it was pretty crowded but luckily we found a booth open after a little looking. My wife's chicken had good flavor, but while parts were nice and juicy, other parts were very very dry. My Ropa Vieja had good flavor and was better than the chicken in my opinion but probably because of the juices it had been soaking in. All in all the food was pretty good considering it's sitting out in trays in a cafeteria line. My overall experience was ok and I'm glad we tried it, but I don't think I'd venture back there next time we pass through. I'd still recommend you give them a shot for yourself though!

Yelp
Wonderful and odd restaurant, with many traditional Cuban options but also American too. Set up like a cafeteria where you point at what you want from the main dishes, and then add on extras as you move down the line. La Carreta reminded me of cafeteria-style restaurants from long-gone eras that used to be all over the US. It seemed wonderfully out of place in the Miami airport, yet fitting for Miami with all its diversity of cultures and food choices. Clearly, the Cuban options were the major influences and I was delighted to see some of these flavors and dishes being introduced to travelers and hope Cuban food (which is great) becomes more popular across the US. It also seemed much of the staff seemed to be family, I enjoyed watching them interact as they worked.
google avatar

Jade U.

Yelp
Well didn't expect the BEST COFFEE and Yummy Cuban Sandwiches to be in a baggage claim area of the airport. It was a real find and the service is very local. Noticed there were so many people who worked at the airport getting items here- had to do it too!
google avatar

N D.

Yelp
Food was good. Ambiance was okay. Only issue was that a lot of the employees did not speak English. Thank goodness I can speak enough Spanish. lol.
google avatar

Joshua C.

Yelp
I generally enjoy the food here. My favorite item is the pastelitos de guayaba y queso - absolutely delicious! The Cuban sandwich is good, though not the best I've had. Overall, it's a solid option for a meal at the airport.
google avatar

Nikki C.

Yelp
While I waited for my connecting flight, I stopped by La Carreta for the soul reason of getting Ropa Vieja which is one of my favorite Cuban dishes. Walking in, it was a little disheartening to see the "cafeteria like" line ordering style because usually it's not very good however the food was quite tasty. Was it the best Cuban food I've had? No. However, it's a great option to have at the airport. Beats the typical fast food place.

Bo P.

Yelp
Authentic Cuban food. Go there for a "trip to Cuba" Wonderful selection. Many locations to serve you.
google avatar

Falan E.

Yelp
There is poor customer service and language barriers here. The best interaction was at the bar station for my drink and the cashier. Other than that that this would have easily been a 1*. I wanted to order protein only but the staff insisted I had to order one protein and two sides. The restaurant is located inside Miami Airport and the space was clean. The food is low quality and not the best. I could've had better from a fast food place.
google avatar

Mark J.

Yelp
Airport food and very average at that! Came here for breakfast after early morning landing in MIA. Usual overpriced airport fare. I don't know why but I was expecting better. Service pretty nonexistent and staff unable to answer normal questions. I ordered the breakfast eggs, bacon, pork sausage, potatoes and tostada with Cuban toast and a colada coffee. All of this was lukewarm at best which is weird as it was 5:30am and the place opened at 5am.
google avatar

Anthony K.

Yelp
A great variety here. The entree signage could be larger. I didn't even know that the entrees came with two sides. Bountiful food in large portions, and quite tasty. The desserts looked excellent and there were so many to choose from. If there were more readable labels that reduced confusion, this place would have gotten a five star.
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
Cafeteria style airport restaurant. Hard, dry salmon, overcooked vegetables and cold dirty rice. All for 19.99. Never again!!!!!
google avatar

Monique A.

Yelp
During a recent layover at Miami international my partner and I grabbed breakfast here and we were both thoroughly impressed. It's a Cuban restaurants that offers a variety of Cuban and American style food. You purchase the food a la carte which can be pricey but worth it for a nice hot meal. The staff is attentive and the service is great. I also found the restaurant to be clean for an airport. I'd dine here again.
google avatar

Adrian K.

Yelp
Food was hot and delicious. Very good spot for airport food. Workers speak both English and Spanish and are nice. Would also highly recommend trying the Guava Cheese Pie if you want a little sweet treat to go along with the sandwich
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
Ordered two sandwiches; only had the chance to try one of them before I became violently ill and threw up on my plane :( 100% do not recommend eating here (or at the very least eating the cuban sandwich). I also ordered empanadas. They came in a bag. After 2 hours, the bag was soaked with water. Didn't get to try them, but if you order them eat it quickly.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Excellent food. Be sure to read the menu. Because the prices originally seem kind of outrageous but then you realize you're buying an entrée. I had a wonderfully large portion of black beans, rice, plantains, and a Cuban sandwich all for under $20. The service was really nice. But if you do not speak Spanish fluently and may be a little bit difficult for you. There was also a waiter on the floor who was willing to refill my water and even serve me my sandwich when it was done from the kitchen. As far as airports, go pretty low expectation certainly surpassed

Tweety B.

Yelp
Amazing food. Very busy and popular lunch spot. It's buffet style hot and clean food! I got Moros Rice with Carne Vieja which is the Ropa Vieja - Rice with black beans, spicy shredded beef with peppers, and plantains. Perfect lunch platter ate it all. My colleague got the roasted chicken with red/beans and plantains and loved it too.

Yelp
The plan was to fly through Fort Lauderdale, and well, then the tropical storm came along and changed my plans entirely. As a result, I wound up flying from Miami on their latest flight to go northbound to Tallahassee. Consequently, because I'm an early bird and enjoy taking my time at an airport, I figured I should eat dinner there and La Carreta came to mind. I mean, why not? I only pass it every single time I'm in the American Airlines domestic terminal. There's also the caveat that I'm a terrible Cuban and had never actually eaten at one of these, despite my mother swearing up and down she loved this chain. Well, minus one time where her boliche wasn't up to par, but I'm entirely digressing here. Anyhow, last week the day finally came and I tried them. This La Carreta is separated into two sections: their café section for things to go and then a cafeteria-style area where you grab food and chat up the ladies working there. As soon as I saw the goods, I chose a flan, as well as a huge plate of ropa vieja, white rice, and maduros. I'd have ordered something alcoholic, but the line was long and I was getting hangry. I knew I had to eat and that was that. Paid at the end of the line, sat down, and happily began munching away. Have to say that the food wasn't half bad, although the ropa vieja made me want my own. I think my version of ropa vieja is way better, but you tell me. I think this restaurant's version is better than average, just not as good as some fine home cooking. The plates they serve you here, in typical fashion of any Cuban restaurant, are massive. I couldn't finish my meal at all and what was left of it (mainly white rice) made no sense to take with me. I did, however, take the flan with me. It was in a small container that easily fit in my carry-on luggage. It kept well and I ate it two days later sans problems. Can finally understand why my mother swore up and down about this chain, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for them. My cooking has been gradually improving on the Cuban front and frankly there's another Cuban chain I prefer.

Yelp
Craved an Empanada at the airport while waiting on transportation. I haven't had one in a while so I was looking forward to it. I tried the chicken empanada and a ham and cheese empanada. I did not like the ham and cheese but likely my personal preference. The chicken was good although greasy. I was not impressed with the gnats flying all over the side table where the water and other items you can use were at. I also did not appreciate the attitudes of the employees working. They appeared to be bothered that I was there and they had to wait on me. They didn't want to answer questions either. That aside I wanted to try them again so I am glad I did. I now remember why I don't routinely order them at home.
google avatar

Becca S.

Yelp
I wanted a cuban sandwich in Miami and I was only here for a short layover. Word on the terminal was, La Carreta was the place to go. Though I was specifically recommended the empanadas, I was going for a cuban. The one thing that was excellent, was the bread. Toasty, crunchy, everything you could want. What it lacked was flavor and the pork. They take a cold, wrapped, premade sandwich and press it. All the flavor from the mustard and pickles are lost, I believe, in it being premade and refrigerated. The bread absorbed all the moisture. It is really something if you can not detect any flavor of vinegar from mustard or pickles. It ended up just tasting like a mediocre ham and cheese. There were like two thin slices of pork and two pickle chips on the whole sandwich.
google avatar

Staci S.

Yelp
Yum! I wanted to try some Cuban coffee. Before I left Miami and luckily I passed this place when getting to my terminal. The line was long and busy, but they got through people quickly. I ordered the Guava & Cheese pastry (because why not!) and the Cuban Expresso (which I learned later was not actually Cuban coffee despite being listed under coffee on the menu). The pastry was gooey, flaky, and oh so good! I can't speak much on the expresso since I don't drink it that much, but it didn't taste bad. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back to try more of their pastries if I find myself back at MIA.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE Cuban cuisine. I HATED La Carreta. I left hungry. The food from the hot buffet line turned cold by the time I found a chair that wouldn't ruin my pants with its cracked surface. The Carne con Papa was tough and flavorless. The Ropa Vieja seemed to be the same meat slopped over with a bit of canned gravy. Nothing had any seasoning other than a little salt. The (likely frozen) mixed vegetables were boiled until they were soggy, shapeless, and senseless. Maduros are a particular favorite of mine. Instead of giving a caramel-ly crispness, the edge that I nibbled tasted of rancid cooking oil. The food quality was so poor that I was afraid to try anything else, like a Cortadito, which I dearly wanted. The busman cleared the tables diligently, cleaned trays diligently, and diligently distributed mints plus toothpicks wearing his cleaning gloves! Run, don't walk, away from this total waste of money. I wasted mine on a virtually inedible meal.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
LA Carreta is a casual Cuban restaurant located at the Miami International Airport in Concourse D. It caters to airport employees, travelers, and tourists. It is a cafeteria style service.
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
I agree with my other fellow yelpers. This might be the best airport food I've had. The plates looked delicious, but opted for a chickpea stew. It was on point. One can only wonder why there is line across the hall at Nathan's Hot Dogs when you can eat La Carreta

Yvonne G.

Yelp
I will hustle through MIA just to be able to get a cubano sandwich and some white rice/black beans (arroz Moro) when I come through. The service is fast and stellar! They make you feel like your home as you revert back into speaking Spanish and laughing with the staff. They are so nice and efficient. The mojito will leave you wanting another. Don't pass this place up in D near gate 40
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Good food to grab while in Miami Airport if you want a last minute bite before you drop on or off a flight

Jay S.

Yelp
The food looked good on the cafeteria line so we gave it a shot. This was for breakfast and although it looked good, everyone's food lacked much taste. And yeah, it's way too expensive for what you get but that's how it is at any airport with a captive audience. What really set us off was there was not one employee who could adequately speak English. I get that it's Miami aka Cuba, but come on! It's still America. The interaction we had with the guy guiding people in at the entrance, to the lady taking our order and then the cashier had to be insanely funny to anyone watching. Is it really that difficult to learn your menu in the English language? Apparently it is here. SMH! So disappointing this is how some businesses treat their English speaking customers. Oh well, at least we know for next time at MIA.
google avatar

Bambi S.

Yelp
This restaurant was al a carte. The food was no edible. The vegetables were over cooked. The rice was dry. The fruit was not fresh. The bartender was great though. I do not recommend this place because it reminds me of cafeteria food.

David H.

Yelp
First stop for Cafecito and Cuba. Sandwiches when landing in Miami. Cafecito without sugar was perfect kick after a red eye flight ...add a Pan con Jamon and queso and just the perfect start to a South Florida day ...make sure and stop by when landing . Recommend
google avatar

La'Tressa G.

Yelp
If you're into buffet style service & Cuban food you'll like this place. They are located between gates D36 and D38. Staff speak English and Spanish & there are name cards above each item that explains what the dish is. I ordered the pollo carretero, arroz con puerco & platanos maduros. The rice was cooked to perfection and the pork meat was tender. The maduros were made fresh and damn good. I will say I was disappointed in the chicken because although it looks well seasoned it was rather bland. The only thing about airport food is you will PAY, especially when you want something other than fast food. I was surprised when the attendant rang up my order and told me the total was $31.28, because the price of the chicken dish shows $17 on the name card but whatever. Overall not bad.

Steve A.

Yelp
This was pretty good for an airport restaurant. The salmon was a bit dry though. Atmosphere is nice with wooden furniture.
google avatar

Marcia D.

Yelp
Long day in the airport and wanted a nice sandwich. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, a cheese danish and a hot chocolate. First off, make no mistake this place is always full. But next time I will order something else. The sandwich was big what I was expecting. It did but have all the workings of a Cuban sandwich and one of the meats tasted a little off. I did like that the bread was toasted and had a nice crunch. I had 2 bites and couldn't finish it. The cheese danish was fresh and tasty and the hit chocolate was good. Next time I'll order something else to change my opinion.
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
While waiting at MIA, connecting flight to Colombia ... I was oober hungry and saw a number of folks stop here. Thought I would do on by and see what the commotion was for and noticed everyone coming here to enjoy the espresso shots, empenadas and Cuban sandwich... I myself got the sandwich. It was good but there was a lot of bread and not much middle .. none the less the bread itself was delish. Portion size for food is large. The ambience was as expected for a busy terminal. Lucky I knew Spanish cause if you don't all then you are screwed cause the staff only show Spanish... I saw a few folks sighing to order and walk away sadly.
google avatar

Jarm A.

Yelp
This is a pretty good cafe to get food after a long flight. I got an empanda, which was crispy and had a lot of spinach and cheese. The prices are also reasonable.
google avatar

John W L.

Yelp
I was recommended by my Lyft driver to tryout the Cuban restaurant La Carreta in the Miami Airport. It was conveniently located next to my departure gate. The food hit the spot as I ordered the Cuban Chicken with rice and beans with a side of plantains. The ambience and service were friendly as well.
google avatar

Elena S.

Yelp
Insanely good (for the price and the fact that it's airport food) and honestly just insanely good period. I got a meat pastelito for 2 bucks and a ham and cheese empanada. Honestly blew my mind a little.
google avatar

Kate A.

Yelp
Located by gate 50, this Carreta has lots of lunch options. I ordered a lentil soup and got a pan con leche at the ala cart window. Pro-tip- if you are not wanting the entrees and prefer the a la cart food, don't stay in the line skip around to the place where you order the a la cart. I waited in line smh. I ordered my sandwich then paid as they made the sandwich to order. The pork was super tender and had really good flavor. The lentil soup had sausage and ham, very flavorful. Service was pretty quick, I got my food to go and sat for a minute by the window to have my soup the. Took my sandwich n the plane.
google avatar

Charmayne H.

Yelp
I grabbed a chicken empanada on my way to board my flight. I wanted something light and flavorful. Pretty good empanada and the price is reasonable! This is located in concourse D of Miami airport near D38.
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
Not bad for an airport! The pork was tasty and comes with a bit of chicharron which was my favorite part. The red beans and rice were so dry it was almost inedible. I should have gone with the veggies. Love any chance I get to have plantains though.
