"Deemed Miami’s original Cuban kitchen, La Carreta is a hub for Cuban dishes served abuela style. There’s something for everyone — from boliche to a classic Cuban sampler with roast pork, ham croquettes, tamale, yuca, and so on, paired with a mojito, for an ultimate Cuban feast." - Eater Staff

Google
I give 5 ⭐️ for everything. Service was impeccable from the door step. The kitchen, bar and waiters were very fast. Love to try different cuisines and Cuban did not disappoint. The seasoning is well balanced but tasty at the same time. The portion are big. Loved my choices. Last but not least, the drinks were on point.

Google
The food was good and service was pretty quick even though we had a larger group.

Google
This is not a tourist trap. If you are hungry and want authentic Cuban cuisine this is the place to go. Food was delicious Ordered pork chunks and so juicy and tender to die for. If you go to La Carreta Hialeah ask for Alberto V for excellent service. Courteous and friendly with lots of knowledge. Will be back for sure. 5 Stars for Alberto 👍

Pete Gerena

Google
The food tastes great and was fairly priced. I did Not have a bad experience with the servers, but the server kept talking to other servers while we ate and never refilled our drinks. As for the atmosphere, it seemed a little outdated.

Google
My mom introduced me to this Cuban restaurant and i fell in love with it they food is really good and I love they meat pastries my favorite

Magda Secco

Google
Ordered vaca frita, congri and yuca with mojo. The vaca Frita tasted like dry straw. No taste. Burned to a crisp, hard and no taste. The yuca had zero mojo, even though i asked the lady that took the order to include mojo. Needless to say. I threw half of the meat and yuca out.

The food here is absolutely delicious! If you're craving Cuban food while in the area, this is the spot, and they’ve got English menus if you need one too.

Bridgette Baldwin

Google
Delicious food. Menus in both Spanish and English; After discovering we were clearly English speakers, the waitress could not take our orders in English which was complicated. Nonetheless, the Cuban Sampler was fantastic and very affordable!

Yelp
For the past 10 years, I've lived in Hialeah while renovating a house nearby to this restaurant and, have visited and dined and had a Stella or drink or two with mi Amigo, Gilbert, at the bar/lounge. Gilbert has always provided me with excellent food, service and has always been willing to assist in my learning of the Spanish language. He and the other dayr bartender there alwa treated and served me well. They are great hosts and the Cuban food is delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant and these individuals to all.

Joseph S.

Yelp
Came for lunch took over 30 mins for a steak sandwich Other locations have been ran better, and it's not even busy and staff is everywhere The kitchen must be backed up Food was great just took a year to get

Anna S.

Yelp
If you like buffets. This is the place to be on weekends. They have a great buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. You pay as soon you come in and you order your drinks. This isn't your typical breakfast buffet. There is a huge variety of Cuban breakfast and lunch items. This is a great buffet to bring out of town family members during the holidays. The customer service is friendly and helpful. The ambiance is like a grandma's kitchen table. I love this place because it reminds me of que Pasa usa! And the Cuban food is very good. I highly recommend to come on weekdays and sitting down and eating dinner. Please check out the huge variety of croquettas and indulge in a colada.

Carmen Olivia M.

Yelp
I don't know how someone can look at that and decide to serve it. 1. I ordered vaca frita not onions with a side of beef. 2. There's a difference between fried and charred which which is what most of these pieces were. 3. It was soaked in mojo. SOAKED May whoever served this get their food prepped with the same care they showed !

Areli R.

Yelp
So this was a really delicious place to come to for a lunch with the family today had many choices to choose from the weekend to chicken, seafood and steak and a quick lunch sandwich as well. Love you location easy to beautiful seating area lovely customer service They also have a bar for happy hour if you choose to, lovely ambience as well. Very nice quite very clean the menu I tried a couple of dishes from the menu and I must say that I am not. Disappointed everything was highly suggested by the waitress very well informed that every item that we wanted to try very friendly staff as well. I recommend this place to come by and check out. If you are in Miami it's a must come to seems to be a stamp locations throughout Miami Florida, but the one we came to here seems to be really good as a lot of people come here locals and Tourists so if you're in the area stop by and check it out for yourself you won't be disappointed. can't wait to come back and try some other items that I saw on the menu. I also tried a Cuba libre Drink and it was really good too!!! Yummy with my food pop! Please ask for waitress Vianca she was amazing

Eric S.

Yelp
Exceptional Cuban cuisine with wonderful and friendly service. Will definitely visit again when I return to Florida

Yelp
I am writing this review literally 4 minutes after I just picked up 2 hot Cuban sandwiches (regular) from the Carreta in Hialeah (W 16 Ave). Yes I am eating while I'm driving because I was so hungry that I couldn't wait to get home. I'm going to keep this really short....this is the WORSE Cuban sandwich I have ever had! Ok, not true I had one in Tampa that was just as bad. I swear this sandwich NO meat but lots of mayo. It was mayo, cheese and Cuban bread, just awful. Anyway, I don't know if I ordered the wrong one maybe I should have ordered the upgraded version but still a Cuban sandwich! Not only that I'm in Hialeah you would think that Cuba 2.0 would make a good sandwich! Nope! Not the case! They servers were really nice and they even spoke English! I know what you're thinking. But YES Hialeah does have a few people that can speak English. Back to the review, if La Carreta in Hialeah can't make a decent Cuban sandwich there is no way I'm trying this place for lunch.

Yelp
We were greeted and seated promptly which is why i gave 2 stars. However once the waitress brought us water and silverware, we noticed our silverware wrapped in napkins with mold spots on them. The additional napkins each had mold on them as well. We promptly walked out. We are a black couple so it immediately made me wonder if we were just not welcomed or if it was an honest mistake. However, if this is how the napkins and silverware came, imagine the plates and actual food. Not giving it a chance to be intentional.

Yelp
This is a pretty big restaurant, with lots of booths, but it looks old school. There's gentlemen standing around within the front entrance monitoring things, but the service is still slow. I ordered the plantain soup, and they gave us chicken noodle. When we finally got the plantain soup, it tasted okay; nothing special. It tasted more like a pea soup; lacked flavor. It was the same deal with the Medianoche sandwich. It was small, and didn't have much flavor to it. They didn't use enough pork or ham.

Gilda B.

Yelp
I hadn't been to La Carreta (Bird Road) in a while, but my cousin was visiting from Puerto Rico and wanted to eat ox tail. She ordered oxtail with moros & sweet plantains. I ordered the churrasco & the same sides. The oxtail was okay. The moros were not cooked right, as real Cuban moros are made with black beans and theirs was made with red beans and Uncle Ben's rice. In addition, the food was lukewarm to cold. My churrasco was nasty, full of fat and cold. My cousin ordered crème brûlée and even that was bad. It had a heavy taste of corn starch. To add insult to injury, we were charged $28 for each nasty entrée. The waitress was okay, but never came to refill our glasses and we had to call her attention several times to order desert and the check. It has changed a lot since the old manager, Joaquin, passed. As far as I am concerned, this is not a Cuban place anymore. I will never set foot there again. Too bad!

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has 3 stars - should be four at least. I came here with my husband for a quick lunch in Hialeah since it's right across the st from my moms house. At first, I really didn't want to go Bc I've never been a fan of la carreta. But this place really won me over. Service: amazing! Our waiter was super attentive and sweet and respected that it needed to be a quick dinner. Everything was also very clean with covid. Food: amazing!! I ordered my usual croquetas (if you follow my reviews, you see that I order this frequently). Still not better than Islas canarias (which is hard to beat) but they were better than Versailles!!! The pan con bistec was also delicious and HUGE - enough to share. The coffee was also very good. Overall: totally recommend if u are in the area and want cuban food. I'll def be coming back - but to try breakfast here :)

Helen C.

Yelp

Yelp
DISAPPOINTING.......... I haven't been here in more than 7 years. Wow very sad. The restaurant definitely needs a deep cleaning. The dust on the lights above us were so thick. The bathrooms, the toilets barely worked. Broken soap dispensers etc ... Service: A bit slow at the beginning but got better. Food: I don't know what to say I'm so shocked. Morro Rice tasted like if it was microwaved, roasted pork, breaded steak, ribeye, yuca, mojo practically had NO flavor or seasoning. When we finally got the toasted Cuban bread it was good. Desserts: tres leche tasted Stale and dry. Flan was really good. Price: slightly high for the quality you receive. Now the #1 question you ask yourself anytime you eat out, would you eat here again? Unfortunately, NO. Very sad how this restaurant has changed. It used to be a gem to go to. Food use to be authentic.

Roy F.

Yelp
I ordered fishand it had freezer burn, the moro rice was cold. Don't spend your money there.

Yainira P.

Yelp
Well , I have to say that I went the other day ,and I had a good /tasty experience ! I had a mojito to start off, quite impressed , pretty good one then I had the frituras de malanga and they tasted pretty good as well . However , I thought of making this review Bc I think their yellow rice overall is pretty on point compared to other cuban restaurants , I had arroz imperial with avocado salad and fried plantains , I did like it , but I think the Mayo was missing from my arroz imperial , it was still very tasty I finished off With a caramel flan and Cuban cafecito I have to say their fried snapper caught my eye too, next time I'll go for that with yellow rice and plantains

Cary M.

Yelp
What an experience....came to eat here with friends. As I was enjoying my food, I come across a roach in my soup. We all automatically stopped eating. The manager sent the waitress to apologize, we insisted to speak to the manager, he approaches the table like 10 minutes later and apologized for the incident. He decided to comp the bottle of wine we ordered, an appetizer, and the soup. We were charged for the other entrees, the roach, the beer , the mojito and other appetizers after this disgusting experience. The managers approach could've been better. We would never return to eat there. The service recover could've been better. Total bill $87.07 I felt bad for the waitress and gave her a $20 tip. Restaurant gained $87 but lost a hell of a lot more.

Karen P.

Yelp
My review is based off my breakfast experience there at the window. Sunday morning, and I only had to wait a few minutes before being helped. My husband got the cafe con leche to drink, which he said was fantastic. We got ham croquettes, which were so moist and delicious. My husband ate a guava pastry while I got a cheese pastry. Both were good and the pastries themselves were super flaky. We also shared a beef empanada, which had so much flavor. Everything was warmed up, which made it even better. I wish this place were closer to us because I could eat there every morning.

Osvaldo V.

Yelp
The worst service and food I've ever receivedwe ordered four plates for four different people and they all came out horrible

J G.

Yelp
Hi friends. La Carreta speaks for itself. Had a Cuban sandwich and a cafe con leche. These sandwiches are to die for. Nom nom nom. Highly recommended. Five stars.

Ma R.

Yelp
Excellent, the service was great, and the food, flavor and quality was fantastic. We will certainly be back. Great Cuban food.

tori p.

Yelp
I went here around 5pm on a Saturday with friends. The place was packed. No wait time really. I chose the Cuban sandwich and it was extremely dry. No favor whatsoever and probably the worst Cuban sandwich I've ever had. The service was also terrible, we had to get the waitress's attention multiple times. Maybe they were understaffed. Won't be coming here again though for food.

Sarah P.

Yelp
My husband is Cuban, and he likes to come here on the days that they offer oxtail stew! So I can review on this dish, it's great, typical home style Cuban fare. La Caretta is well known for Cuban cuisine and is frequented by the Cuban population here in Hialeah! The atmosphere and decor is typical Cuban style with pretty Cuban art works dotted around that depict the Cuban lifestyle in Havana aswell as the countryside in Havana.. they also have a TV that rotates modern photographs of Havana as it looks now. The mojitos here are very good..I loved the fact that it was has fresh mint leaves muddled in it aswell as a slice of sugar cane. Sugar cane is well known in Cuba - so I had to have a nibble to see what all the fuss is about, and if you suck the cane - you definitely taste the sugary consistency of it!

Natasha C.

Yelp
UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!! I was absolutely stunned by how bad the quality of service this place has right when I walked in the door. I came in by myself ready to eat and they had me waiting for 20min with a bunch of open tables available . So I sat down at a chair available in the front and a server/man rudely came up to me and told me if I can be moved because he needs the space open. I was sitting down because my feet where completely swollen at my end of my pregnancy , the guy literally did not let me get up before he moved my chair and caught my feet on it ! I felt extremely uncomfortable disrespected. I told the guy he hurt my feet and he just walked away smiling . I left with out even wanting to try this place ever again.

Frank P.

Yelp
PAN con Bistec muy seco, no tiene fabor Arroz con camarones muy bien echo, delicious

Celeste M.

Yelp
I came here with my family of 10 for a late lunch/early dinner. La Carreta is a staple in my family, but we rarely get to come to this location. I'm disappointed with the service of this La Carreta as I did not find they were welcoming or eager to serve us. I can't tell if it was because we were a big group or the fact that half the party did not speak Spanish but we definitely felt uneasy. Our waiter was not attentive, he didn't speak directly to us, and overall wasn't great. I ordered the lunch special of the day for Monday, which was meatballs Catalonian style. This comes with a side of rice and plantains. It was large portioned and it tasted pretty good. I love to come to La Carreta for breakfast and I usually have a good experience. Overall this location is the one that is most popular but I'm not sure why. There's a much nicer one in Pembroke Pines.

Yennifer H.

Yelp
The absolute best service from Vianca in La Carretta Calle 16!! She is a super star. The food was so delicious!!Highly recommended.

Ricardo J.

Yelp
Disappointe...waitress was good, food was horrible, quality, presentation, taste etc. it is obvious there has been some changes in the kitchen or management. I've been to this location many times for many years but it has turned into a "cantina" low quality cafeteria. Food is cold, horrible taste, rise stuck up, beans tasted like they were from previous days, portions have been reduced at least 20%. I'm not a chef but I cook and I know when food is not fresh. In summary, it is sad to see such a great restaurant go down hills. Will not recommend to anyone trying to taste Cuban food for the fist time. It is a shame! management, owners do some quality check around. Not safe food. will make you sick!

Jordan M.

Yelp

Austin D.

Yelp
To be clear I've eat at La Carreta in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and they were great. Absolutely nothing to complain about and will definitely go back to those locations. However, call the La Carreta in Hialeah terrible is a understatement. To start, we showed up and install ordered cafesitos and cafe con leche. It took about 30 minutes to get to the table and it was cold. On top of that they didn't even bring tostados till we asked the waiter for it. We had also ordered our food with the cafesitos and cafe con leche which took another 30 minutes to come out. The food was bland and cold for the most part, also they never brought out half of the food that we ordered. The eggs were wet as could be and the steak had absolutely no flavor. Then we asked for the check after all this disappointment and it took minimum 45 minutes for us just to get the check. I'm so disappointed beyond belief to write this review because I love La Carreta but don't support this garbage establishment. You will only be disappointed.

Sergio F.

Yelp
La Carreta may be a Miami institution, but you don't want to end up in a medical one. I went Monday evening around 10pm and ordered my usual Cuban comfort dish of grilled chicken, moros and sweet plantains. The buttered bread was warm and not overly crispy, generously spread with butter. My moros (black beans and rice) had just the perfect amount of grease and the sweet plantains were soft and sweet. They even brought out a container of their guava bbq sauce (for which I hustled an extra couple of intensity levels at the gym the next day :) All good right? When I bite into the chicken breast, I get somewhat of a chewy taste. Ok, maybe a bit into a grilled onions instead. Another piece perhaps? Nope, same result. I had to double up on the sauce to finish it up. (I dont turn food back at the restaurant, I don't want it to come back worse) As I was driving back home, I started getting a headache as well. I can tell you for a fact it wasn't due to Hialeah traffic, since said headache eased after the Alka Seltzer I had home kicked in. I don't think I'll be returning here for awhile.

Gloria A.

Yelp
Ordered via UberEats- the food arrived in a timely manner and still warm. I had the ham croquetta: crispy, great flavor and huge! Chicken soup tasted like real broth, shoulved ordered a bigger size! Boyfriend got churrasco: he ordered it medium with rice and black beans- he is very picky and he cleaned the plate and gives it a 5! I tried the beans, great flavor and the meat was super juicy. Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Eric R.

Yelp
Parking is ample. Host was presentable and friendly. Decore was definitely cuban orientaded. Latin food was varied. Tostones filled with shrimp was delicious. Our waitress was a bit rude because of the four two weren't hungry and we only ordered one plate. I over heard ger complaining about it. We had the sirloin. Well cooked and black beans with rice was seasoned right. Our waitress was more attentive to the table behind us to the point were she just stood next to the table just to chit chat while i was signaling to get something. Didnt care for her. Food was average expensive and bad service. Just one time visit.

Erica G.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU DONT SPEAK SPANISH!!!! THEY ARE RACIST AND DISCRIMINATE IF YOU DONT SPEAK SPANISH. I am mexican and they were being nice to me but my friends who one is black and the other is pakistan did not receive the same respect as me. Terrible customer service overall. Highly disappointed.

Angie D.

Yelp
Quick stop to grab a bite for lunch while I left my car at the nearby car wash, definitely satisfying! Super quick service, they made sure we always had water, food came out super quick as well and it was delicious! Customer service was great everyone was nice and friendly. Restaurant was clean, however it was very cold! Older crowd, and quiet ambiance. There is a lounge/bar area inside, didn't get the chance to check it out but it had a couple tables and a bar set up.

Demi M.

Yelp
What can I say about La Carreta that hasn't already been said or isn't already known.... Not much except for maybe that Cristina is the best, sweetest person and waitress in the world. She has been there for over 30 years! I like the food here, and I LOVE the food here compared to say, Chico's down the street. Croquetas are excellent and I love that their food is consistently good. You know if you order vaca frita that its what you are going to get... not ropa vieja or something else.. Bistec Empanizado is another favorite of mine from here, never fatty and the breading is always on point. If you want Cuban food and happen to be here in Hialeah, Stop, you will not regret it.

Super S.

Yelp
Not only is the churrasco amazing. W drove four hours and this was our first stop. I've eaten here many times and it's always awesome. Milena was our server and she was quick and efficient. Great personality and deserves to be recognized for her work. Five stars all around. Super clean place.

Jacques R.

Yelp
This place is located in Bird road next to Locatel Pharmacy... It has lots of people all the time, they might not want to improve in food as they have enough people... I certainly would improve both in food and service... The place also looks dated and could use some cleaning!!! The white rice and black beans are very good... The rest of the food, too greasy and average... I had bbq chicken, they try to make a fusion between latin and "gringo" food there... Dont... It did not do good to either...service was below average, maybe they were doing a small favor to us!! Enjoy...

John L.

Yelp
Fast service, cuban food is always good at this place. Our waiter Raul is always kind and friendly. My favorite Carreta in town.

Olga C.

Yelp
Terrible, terrible, terrible... Had take out this afternoon of Cod entree with white rice and fried plantains. The cod was non existent, not even one potato either and the sauce was bland, zero flavor.... all we had was green and red peppers with onions. Plantains were hard as a rock like they were three days old. This is not the first time we eat here, but it certainly may be the last!!!

Elizaveta C.

Yelp
The best place in Miami to go to for breakfast. No where else can you get all you can eat Croquetas, pastelitos, and all the regular breakfast food you can imagine, BUFFET STYLE!!!! This place is amazing for breakfast and you could only get this buffet on the weekends. One of the few places I would drive 45 minutes to just for a breakfast or brunch. The service is better than a buffet because the waiters still have to bring you your coffee and toast and they must be vigilant about your drinks. So you get the service of a sit down typical restaurant while eating a buffet style meal. I just simply can't get over the unlimited croquetas.

Cliff C.

Yelp
Really nice place. The food is very good here. I got the tacos shrimp and fish. The staff was also great. I would say this is a go to place. Saw people that the waitstaff knew so it lets me know they come often. That means a lot when it comes to eating out.

Kardin H.

Yelp
Food was alright with very big portions. The bread served while you are ordering is a perfect appetizer! I ordered the steak, mash, and broccoli. The steak was a bit bland, mash was good, and to me the broccoli had some fishy taste. Overall the service would be good if they spoke English well but other then that it shouldn't be much of a deal. I honestly think there are better Cuban restaurants out there but I only came to Miami, FL for a sort amount of time.

Selmy B.

Yelp
Fast food Cuban in a busy fast paced restaurant. Must know Spanish for the menu doesn't offer translations. I hear they might have an English one. Most of the staff speaks broken English but the primary language is clearly Spanish. The portions are generous and cheap. Average dish is $10.00. The Mamet milkshake is all fruit and thick made with real milk. Atmosphere is mostly families on this Sunday. Great place to taste authentic Cuban food.

Brian A.

Yelp
came here on a whim with my wife and daughter. we had the ropa vieja and breaded steak and was amazing. we also ordered Flan Catalan for desert and it was the best i have ever had. we will definitely be back soon

E D.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to have breakfast and decided to come here. It was a nightmare. 1. Everything in the morning is a buffet here. This would be okay if the food was okay, which it's not. 2. The food was a disaster. The croquets were all smashed, the eggs undercooked, around many other dishes. Not to add that many dishes were empty and needed to be refilled. 3. People were standing around like zombies waiting for plates. It felt like Black Friday in here. 4. And best for last, there was vomit in the bathroom sink! Just fabulous. Never again

WR R.

Yelp
Horrible, even "el batido de mamey " is bad, we went in there with an open mind. Twice, my husband got lobster, ok he couldn't eat the thing, I wasn't that ambitious, But it was bad too, we decided to go for a shake another day, on the window they have outside, well that was worse!! And the lady that was at the door, horrible manners! She could not be more rude, wow if I could give them have star I would.

Anig P.

Yelp
Food is usually on point but the waitresses aside From Cristina are ridiculously slow and lazy. Walked in to two of them doing their hair at the entrance and cursing. Our waitress didn't come to ask for our drinks till about 20 minutes after we arrived and sat down. Then it took 15 minutes for them to bring us our drinks which were all non alcoholic. Try the Miramar location instead.

Nivea M.

Yelp
Ordered takeout. I ordered a Tortiila Vasca Topped with cheese which is supposed be a deluxe Tortilla with ham, chorizo, onions, sweet peas and shrimp. What I got was a 2 inch omelette and no cheese. My husband ordered Pollo a la Milanesa, with maduros and it came overcooked with barely any marinara sauce . They forgot the maduros. Will not order from here again.
