Clearly beloved by locals, La Casa De Alberto dishes up solid, no-frills Mexican-American classics and seems to be a mainstay in Walker's Point. I was definitely charmed by the friendly service and homestyle flavors of their food! My friends and I decided to stop by for a quick dinner after several recommendations to check this place out, claiming that it is the best among the popular Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood.
La Casa De Alberto is located on National just off of the busier areas of Walker's Point. On a Friday around 5:30, there was plenty of street parking to be found! The restaurant itself is pretty small inside- maybe about 10 tables or so, as well as a bar area, so definitely plan ahead if coming with a larger group or at a busy time. It has all the classic vibes that I would expect from this type of restaurant- many fond memories of sitting in chairs just like the ones here at Mexican restaurants growing up. There are several TVs which could make this a good place to catch a game while eating some delicious and hearty food.
Speaking of the food, my friends and I had heard that the mole here is a must-try, so we all ordered mole enchiladas (I got mine with pork), [$14.50]. The hefty plate comes with three enchiladas topped generously with what seemed to be mole poblano. The mole was well-made with a good balance of sweetness and spice. The flavor was very addictive when mixed with the savory rice and beans on the side. The enchiladas themselves also had plenty of pork and cheese to go around. I think this is probably one of the better ones I've had in Milwaukee but I do wish it was a little more rich and flavorful! The portion seems good for a hungry eater, and should be more than enough for the less ravenous. I also had a mango margarita [$6.00] with a Tajin rim to round out the experience, which was a great pairing!
The service was very friendly, and they stayed on top of refilling drinks and checking in on us. Our waitress was so sweet and welcoming! The food came out quickly, so we were finished in about an hour- but never felt rushed at all. I heard that this restaurant was opened by former Conejito's staff and the tea is apparently this place is much better... well, I was certainly satisfied with the food here!
I will definitely be keeping this restaurant in mind for when I want a casual but satisfying dinner! By the way, the mole enchiladas make great leftovers. I was drooling all through the following morning thinking about them waiting for me in the work fridge :)
