The Best Cheap Meals In Mexico City

"Casa de Toño is famous for its pozole, and they have several locations throughout Mexico City. A large is about $4 and usually more than enough for one person—we recommend the maciza (lean, white meat pork) or the zucchini blossom and mushrooms. The crispy potato flautas are also excellent, especially when dipped in a side of melted cheese, and you can’t leave without finishing your meal with arroz con leche. The service is extremely efficient and fast, but you won’t be rushed through your meal." - guillaume guevara

Google
Absolutely amazing! The food here is incredible and the service is truly the best I’ve ever experienced. The staff is so attentive, friendly, and fast , they really make you feel taken care of. The best part? This location is open 24/7! We arrived at our hotel around 1 a.m. completely starving, and Casa de Toño was an absolute lifesaver. Everything came out quickly, tasted delicious, and the whole experience was perfect from start to finish. Highly recommend this spot!

Google
Casa de Toño in Zona Rosa serves absolutely delicious and authentic Mexican food! The dishes are full of flavor and everything tastes amazing. Prices are very affordable, making it great value for the quality and portions. It’s a popular spot, so be prepared to take a number and wait a bit — but it’s definitely worth it. Once you’re seated, the service is fast, and the experience is fantastic. Highly recommended

Google
It’s a restaurant famous for its soup dish called Pozole, but of course, the Quesadillas and Tacos are also delicious! Personally, I really liked the “Quesadilla con Quesillo,” a Quesadilla filled with cheese. It seems that La Casa de Toño has several branches in Mexico City, but the one I went to was in Zona Rosa. When I arrived, there were about twenty people waiting in front of the restaurant. At the entrance, the staff were handing out waiting numbers, and there was a display above the doorway showing which number was being called — so you could always see how many people were ahead of you. I thought I might have to wait a long time, but I was seated after about fifteen minutes. The restaurant had two floors, and the inside was much more spacious than I had expected.

Google
I came here after looking at places to stay around my hotel. This place was excellent, and the service wasn’t lacking at all! We had the pozole; potato, chicken, and beef flautas, and the chicken quesadilla! Everything was so excellent, that I’ve been here two days in a row already!

Google
Delicious food, lively atmosphere, good service 1 hour before closing on a Friday night. Floutas (rolled tacos) beef chicken were hot and crunchy even potato flautas were delicious for vegetarians. The chicken enfrijoladas were light but filling.

Google
You can tell this place is a staple. I don't think you can get better service. People are literally running around to help as fast as possible. The flautas are good but the Pozole is why you go here! I had the chicken pozole which was very good and my fiance had the vegetarian pozole. She said it was among the best pozole she's ever had.

Anton S.

Google
Absolutely delicious local food. Service is fast. Be prepared to wait a bit during rush hours. But totally worth it Pozole is a must-try. Can also recommend the flan!

Google
La Casa de Toño lived up to the hype. I tried the chilaquiles and their famous pozole. Both were delicious. The staff was friendly and patient with my broken Spanish. Being open 24 hours makes it a great spot for any tourist.

Yelp
Mexico City wqs outstanding, this restaurant was real good also. The employees really hustle and someone came to the table every 10 min of so asking if we needed anything. I would recomend this place

Yelp
Do not recommend going!! We ordered the tacos, flautas and pozole- everything was bland. The taco meat tasted like it was just boiled with no seasoning. The flauta was hard to the point I couldn't cut it with a knife. The restaurant seemed like a fast food dining type of place. Save your money for all the delicious street food Mexico City has to offer instead.

Yelp
Casa de Tono spot to explore a variety of dishes. We arrived just before the lunch rush and easily secured a table for two. The service started off well--our waitress took our order, and most of the food came out quickly. However, there was a hiccup when it came to dessert. After finishing our entrées, we waited nearly 20 minutes and had to remind multiple staff members about our missing desserts before they finally arrived. As for the food, we particularly enjoyed the tostada and sopes--both were flavorful and satisfying. The tacos and flan, on the other hand, were just okay, nothing particularly memorable. The standout dish here is their famous chicken pozole, which everyone seems to rave about. We didn't order it this time since we weren't in the mood for something hot and soupy, but it's definitely on our list for the next visit. Despite the service hiccups, the food was good overall, and I'd come back to explore more of the menu--especially the pozole!

Yelp
Great pozole, amazing enchiladas, possibly the best I've ever had. You can probably skip the steak tacos. Love this place..

Yelp
Amazing local spot with affordable prices and great service! Went for breakfast and sat down at one of the many tables, no wait for a table. Ordered the chilaquiles verdes with steak/carne, and a bowl of pozole. The chilaquiles come in a "combo" with a drink which can either be coffee or juice. Get the green juice, it was so refreshing! The chilaquiles themselves are incredible, crunchy chips, tender steak, and flavorful salsa with eat bite. The pozole was good but a little too spicy for me. Also tried a bite of their quesadilla which was fantastic, highly recommend this spot for some authentic Mexican food!

Yelp
We visited La Casa de Toño last night and we were pleasantly surprised! When we got there we were surprised with the line and the wait, we almost walked away but decided to wait not more than an hour. Well, they don't play around! This is the most efficient restaurant I've been to. Tip # 1, don't leave! They move fast and if you leave you may lose your spot. Tip #2, familiarize yourself with the menu. The best item in the menu is the pozole and it didn't disappoint! I also ordered the biftec tacos and the plain quesadilla (corn tortilla) and what a delight! The staff was super fast, extremely friendly and efficient. We also or the flans - one of each- and they both were great! This is a great place to eat in near the Zocalo! And we paid about $18-20 per couple which is great for the amount of fe we had!

Yelp
I'll start out with the service...a little too amazing! Haha they kept asking if they could take my daughter's plate but we weren't sure if she was finished or not so had to keep turning them away. They're so kind and helpful! They come around every few mins to ask if you need anything else which was nice. Now for the food! We had been traveling all day and finally walked over to this restaurant and sat down for our first meal in Mexico City. I ordered pozole, my husband ordered green enchiladas, and my daughter got a tinga tostada and flauta. The pozole was AMAZING. So tasty and flavorful. The green enchiladas were also very delicious. I didn't taste my daughter's food but she also enjoyed it! We all got very full, had left over pozole and all ordered drinks. It was very reasonably priced for all we ordered. I would definitely recommend!

Yelp
This place offers amazing food and provides excellent customer service. The ordering process is similar to a sushi restaurant, where you fill out a paper listing what you and your party want. On our visit, we ordered a large pozole (their specialty), green enchiladas, and flautas. Additionally, they provided guacamole with chicharrones for free. Each table has a button for calling customer service if needed. Overall, this place is fantastic! The service, food, and micheladas are all amazing. After eating and enjoying drinks, you can head upstairs to the club, which is separate from the restaurant, by the way.

Yelp
Ordered: Chico Pollo Pozole (MX $87) Guacamole Preparado (MX $55) Carne Flauta (MX $36) Papa Flauta (MX $36) Sope con Picadillo (MX $80) Sope con Res Tinga (MX $80) Sope con Carne Guisada (MX $80) Aya's take: Now why in the world did our waiter not tell us we were ordering too much food. Overall, this meal came out to ~$25 USD so it's incredibly cheap and won't hurt your pockets at all. I was more concerned about wasting food! La Casa de Toño is open 24/7 making this the spot to come by at literally any time. The menu won't blow you away but you will see a lot of Mexican classics. They're known for their Pozole which comes with lettuce, radishes and onion along with your choice of meat (I went with chicken). The Pozole is simple, light, and savory. The Flautas were just okay, the filling for both didn't taste fresh. The Sopas are massive! Be warned that these Sopas are not like Spanish-style sopas which are more like the size of your palm. We got 3 with 3 different beef fillings and the best one in my opinion was the Carne Guisada. All 3 were loaded with lettuce, beans, cream, and cheese making them super dense but they were just decent. The Guacamole Preparado was worth having at the table as it's fresh and well-made. If you find yourself here, be prepared for their large portion sizes and cheap prices!

Yelp
I came in earlier this year. It is a local chain fast-food-like place, I assume. The eating area was upstairs. It was simple but clean. I don't speak Spanish, and the server did not speak English, but we were able to understand each other. Lol. He's very nice; too bad I did not get his name. The eggs were cooked, and the Pico De Gallo (if I recognize them correctly) was fresh. The price was very reasonable.
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
We had the pollo pozole, combo flauta, queso quesadilla, and guacamole. Everything was very well priced and delicious, especially for delivery. The pozole had lots of meat and sides to add your own flavor profile. It has a little kick to it, so if you're not a person who likes spice go easy bc the soup already has a kick. There was plenty of meat also in the flauta. The guac was fresh and delicious, but they only serve a few chips with it so order extra if you like chips with your guac. They've got it down with their packaging, although a lot of packaging, it makes it delivery friendly.

Yelp
¡Una buena experiencia! Nuestro camarero, David, estuvó muy amable y tuvó buen servicio. La comida fue deliciosísimo. Comimos a las 5 am despues llegando al aeropuerto del CDMX. El ambiente estuvó bien tambien. A wonderful experience! Our waiter, David, was very nice and had good service. The food was very very delicious. We ate at around 5 am after arriving to the CDMX airport. The ambiance was very good as well.
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
Comida mexicana típica buena y rápida. El servicio es muy eficiente. Recomendado para detenerse a comer máximo 40 minutos, no para hacer sobremesa. El precio es económico.
google avatar

May W.

Yelp
Tried this out based on a local's recommendation on a Saturday night at 8pm after getting in from the airport. There was a 30-min wait for a table. We got bistec tacos, a quesadilla, and flan. The tacos were lacking in flavor and the quesadilla was just ok. I didn't understand the hype, but the area was super lively so it was awesome being around the community.
google avatar

Mya T.

Yelp
Perfect 24/7 eatery spot in Mexico City. Lots of seating and menu options for everyone. I ordered the pozole, an empanada, and a horchata. My friends and I received quick and good service.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
We came here for lunch. This place was a recommendation from a family friend. What you find here is more like what you will see in a typical chain restaurant as opposed to authentic and local mom n pop establishment that we prefer. The food was okay, but it seems as if it's not fresh and made to order. It wasn't my cup of tea. The restaurant was very clean. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Juan C.

Yelp
Over rated spot food is mid service is amazing the only thing I like was the homemade orange soda those are to die for
google avatar

A. B.

Yelp
Quick friendly service at great prices and freaking delicious. I wish I could have eaten more! They have enchiladas, flautas, pozole y mucho mas. Also a great location to do some quick shopping
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
Absolutamente delicioso y el mejor servicio que e recibido en hace mucho tiempo. La comida, el servicio, todo fue de lo mejor. Pienso regresar cada vez que vaya a la ciudad.
google avatar

Yelp
Best food I had in Mexico City. Not over priced. I went for lunch had to wait , but that's a good thing. Line moved quick. Once inside I got my food super quick. I would come back. I must do in Mexico City.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
First meal in CDMX recommended by our B&B. When you first arrive and starving, this place will hit the spot as it was close by. There's a line but after 15 minutes we were in. Ordered Enfrijoladas, quesadilla and mollettas. If I had to reorder I would have gone with the posole instead of mollettas. Price is reasonable.
google avatar

Desiree Y.

Yelp
I had to try everything! The pozole was delicious. Enchiladas verdes de pollo, sauce was just right. The molletes could have been more toasty but the flavor was yummy! Flauta ahogada en salsa roja was huge and loaded with chicken! All in all good food and excellent service!
google avatar

Bill D.

Yelp
First night in Mexico City, so my go-to in a new town is what's near me and what's highly rated. The Londres location of this chain didn't disappoint. It's bright and comfy. Busy but not loud. The servers were quick to seat us and cheerfully help us with ordering. Our food came out quickly and was just what we hoped for. My partner really enjoyed her enchiladas verdes and tried a number of their sauces. I had the taco plate, which were exactly correct. And it's budget friendly to boot!
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
I loved our experience here so much! Everything is clean, it's busy, but never a long line since service is so fast and there are plenty of seats. The menu has breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus dessert and drink offerings. I love their jugo verde, which is a juice with apple, pineapple, spinach and more. It tastes fresh and has a bit of pulp at the bottom. The flautas seem to be the most popular item here. It's delicious from top to bottom, end to end. Every bite is crispy, crunchy, creamy, and savory. We also got chicken soup- which was such a welcome dish when you've been walking off tacos all day. Sometimes you need a hot soup to warm you up. To order and pay, just press the call button at the end of your table. No more awkwardly looking to catch someone's eye or waving someone down!
google avatar

Christopher P.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food! We had the tostada with tinga and three tacos de bistec, as well as the flan. Everything was amazing and the staff were so attentive. There were 4 different sauces: red, habanero, salsa verde, and guacamole. The habanero was one was the hottest. I think the MVP of this meal was definitely flan, it was so decadent! Everything was reasonably priced and came out to about ~$20! What a deal!
google avatar

Renee K.

Yelp
First time trying a pozole, and I feel like I got it from a authentic place. It was so yummy. The service was really good and we were a bunch of Americans that went, but they were very well spoken and helpful. The place itself is nothing special. It's a very casual spot.
google avatar

Lucía V.

Yelp
Well served Mexican dishes and the service is kind and fast. The place is ok and the waiting time was very short. I recommend this place that has fair prices.
google avatar

Pauline C.

Yelp
Many locations through out CDMX, opens late, service is fast, food is decent but nothing to write home about, casual vibe, affordable price. Came here for a quick bite when short on time, was seated promptly within minutes by friendly staff. Ordering was fast, and the food came quickly as well. Wouldn't be near my top choices for food in the food heaven that is CDMX, however not too bad for a quick bite.
google avatar

Mel D.

Yelp
Best flautas in the city! Cheap too!! It's always s as good sign when it seems to be a local favorite. One of our guides also mentioned this is her favorite spot for flautas. The flautas are big so 3 is more than enough if you aren't starving. We had 2 each and had to take the 3rd to go. Service was excellent.
google avatar

Veronica O.

Yelp
We tried the pozole and the cochinita pibil tacos. The pozole was a literal dream, we got it delivered with uber eats and it did not disappoint. Unfortunately we didn't get to sit down at the actual restaurant, but if delivery was amazing?? I can only imagine how exquisite everything is at dine in. Def going back there and dining in when I go back to get the full experience.
google avatar

Adam D.

Yelp
I've been going here for years. It's one of my go-to's for first time visitors. During the week, go before it gets really busy around 1-1:30 PM. My favorites are the pozole, enchiladas suizas and the arroz con leche. Fast service, very casual and highly affordable. Average cost should not exceed around MXN $250/person (around $12 USD). Street parking.
google avatar

Scott I.

Yelp
I had the best Pozole I've had in my entire life, here at La Casa de Toño. I'm not a pozole expert, but the place had a long line (30-35 min wait) just before noon with a bunch of locals. My group was the only tourists there at the time. Has to be legit, right? Once you got in, the whole place is packed with a sea of peopl. All the waiters were hustling. They were running back/forth as fast as they could to get to serving everyone. I guess they want that line to move fast, so better serve you faster so you can chow down and get out of there quicker. They have great customer service too. I ordered a pozole, chicken enchilada, and chicken flauta verdes. All in my books, were 5/5 star rating. I ordered a coke with my meal, although they do serve beer as well. Overall rating: Food - 5/5 Customer service - 5/5 Setting/ambiance - 5/5 Cleanliness - 5/5
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Food is always solid, don't skip the posole. Friendly but efficient service. Always hits the spot.
google avatar

Reed S.

Yelp
Fast, efficient, filling, loved the sauces. All of the dishes were hot and delicious. Waited about 10-15 minutes no big deal.

Cruz Alcantar Rodrigo B.

Yelp
google avatar

Tom P.

Yelp
This is my new favorite restaurant in CDMX. A recent review indicates that the pozole is one of the best in the city. I was NOT disappointed. My party also had a variety of tacos which were equal to the best street tacos in the area. I would like to return and try the enchiladas and flautas. Most of the dishes come with a good variety of choices for meats. This place is CLEAN! That's a big selling point for me in Mexico City. Wait staff and captains were attentive and helpful. Meal arrived at our table in 5 minutes. Menus can be downloaded in English if preferred. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant for breakfast! We enjoyed our cafe americanos and chilaquiles verdes con huevo. The chilaquiles had great flavor, a touch of spice, and were crispy. There was not one soggy piece which we appreciated. The servers are all friendly and quick. I'd definitely recommend giving this spot a try!

Ajay S.

Yelp
Line of locals outside tells you that the restaurant is liked. Service is very fast and food is good. Ambiance is reasonable for a place which is not fine dining. If you are staying at Marriott, it's a short walk.
google avatar

Don C.

Yelp
This is a good goto spot for all of your Mexican favorites. It's 247 and it's a big menu and service is fast/. Tacos, enchiladas, breakfast and fan. Go twice so you can try a few things. It's cheap too.
google avatar

Mari R.

Yelp
Service was so rushed and all of the staff I spoke to seemed annoyed when asked questions. I got the sope with cochinita and it was a big disappointment. The sope is not really a sope. It was more like a fried tortilla. The cochinita was flavorful but not the flavor I was expecting. And the amount crema and queso on my sope was overwhelming. You could barely see the meat underneath the crema and queso. My friend got the pozole and he said it was good but nothing rave worthy like people were telling us. The only thing I did enjoy was the flan.
google avatar

Inaie R.

Yelp
The food was good but the service is rushed. It s a decent fast food restaurant, with great mexican food. it opens on weekends and public holidays

Rocio L.

Yelp
The food was great and tasty, fast service and very friendly service, specially Beatriz, who approached and asked me if I was satisfied. I will come back soon.

Sandy V.

Yelp
We arrived to the city on Friday. Since the restaurant is right across from the hotel, we decided to have lunch here. We orders Enchilada, Tacos, and Quesadillas. Being a foreigner, we were having trouble understanding the menu. Staff here were extremely patient and helpful. All the food we ordered were delicious! Especially the tacos. Great price! Best of all outstanding services from all staff. We came back tonight as this is our last night here, in Mexico City, again outstanding service! Very attentive. Highly recommend.
google avatar

A C.

Yelp
Forget Subway, McDonald, or any fast food restaurant if you are in Mexico. The food here is authentic and cheap. In the morning, for breakfast, try the menu that is placed underneath the glass top. We tried 80% of the menu as we stayed there for 5 days. This is a place to go for family and alone. The bathroom is clean. They take both local currency and major credit cards.
google avatar

Andrea W.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening around 5PM, had to wait a bit for 3 but not too bad. Got an orange juice which was fresh (!), chicken pozole, and carne sope. All very tasty, could've been more flavorful though. Carne sope was flavorful, but I added a bunch of the salsa on top to give it more flavor and a bit of a kick. Pricing is good for the huge portions, quite tasty food!

Naveen N.

Yelp
Good tasting food that's made quickly. Staff is quick with service. Depending on the time of day there is a wait to eat here
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
I was supposed to eat here as my first meal in CDMX. However, there was a huge delay at the airport and I'm getting to my hotel which was a 2-minute walk from Casa de Toño. So, I got there around 9pm on a cold rainy evening and was getting hangry and saw a very long line with a 30-40 minute wait. Nope! I came back the next day around 4pm which was too late for lunch, too early for dinner. But there was still a 30-minute wait! But I wasn't hangry so, I took a number and stood in line. So, it doesn't really matter when you come here, there will always be a wait from mostly locals. After I sat down, I ordered a bowl of pozole with chicken, horchata, and a flan with cajeta. My plate of 4 tostadas came with some lime slices right away. The hot pozole came in shortly after with my drink and flan. Everything was so good! And they gave me extra tostada when I was down to my last one. Probably the best pozole and Mexican horchata I've had. And get this! Everything was just 7USD = 140 pesos. The service was excellent and attentive. I don't think this location is open 24/7 as listed on Yelp.
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
Food was very tasty, reasonable price, clean bright venue and quick service. There is a menu in English you can scan on phone.
google avatar

Jayci G.

Yelp
OMG GO. I went at 9:15 AM on a Saturday and there was no wait. I'm a breakfast person and the chilaquiles rojos con pollo was SO GOOD. I had that meal (which was a LOT of food), + an agua de horchata (yum) and a bottle of water and it was $117 MXN, or about $6.50. No one spoke English but I speak enough Spanish to have managed. Plus, it's food and the whole table is a menu. You just point and you're good. Food was fast and service was wonderful. Couldn't recommend this spot enough.
