A South Wedge cantina with Mexican-inspired plates, a strong tequila and mezcal selection, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe. Frequently noted by locals for Taco Tuesday and a sunny patio when weather allows.

Google
Nachos, guac and salsa were amazing. Main course - we ordered tacos, fajitas, sope - taste was average and sope was terrible, price is way too high. Drinks were also ok.

My husband and I love coming here!! Food is great, drinks are outstanding and service is attentive and quick! We ordered the La Casa tacos and they were hot and delicious! They have this little seating area upstairs which is so cute ! We will be coming back for more 😌

Google
Best thing about this place is the vibes. The salsa strongly reminded me of pasta sauce. And while I could tell the ingredients were of high quality, the combination and lack of seasoning were a major let down. With all the other Mexican food in Rochester I won't be going back to this one. Drink options were fairly good. Service was good but slow.

I came here last night for the first time with my girl friends and it was so good! I got the taco salad with brisket and it was HUGE and probably one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Chips and salsa were delicious and our waiter Ben was a super nice, helpful guy! Definitely will be back!

Google
Such a wonderful place to be! I went last night with my boyfriend and son, and it was great. The food was so delicious. The whole place was so authentic. Originally we were gonna go to Margaritas in greece but they were cash only and I had my card, so glad we decided on La Casa! I will be definitely returning again in the future. Everything was so tasty. Especially the margaritas 😜

I am a Rochester native but I currently live in Chicago and this is still the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. I went here for a birthday dinner with my family and the staff was so attentive!! Our server, Artimus was so incredibly nice and was on top of anything we needed. Such a great place ❤️

Yelp
I have been to la casa many times. it's an incredible establishment- if you can ask for the waiter, Benajamin... that is your best time having fun. The food and drinks are GASSS, would get again. Ambiance stays incredible.

Yelp
Stopped in for taco Tuesday. They have $5 tacos. Parking was a bit of a thing, but they have their own lot next door. Kinda weird entrance situation where there's like three doors but one is out of order and one is an emergency exit... But the interior is nicely decorated! Really great ambiance! Despite being crowded, we were seated very promptly by a nice host wearing a Rasta-colored beanie. We sat downstairs and our server, Jules, immediately came over and brought us waters, chips, and salsa. They were VERY helpful accommodating to my allergy. I have an allergy to all alliums (garlic, onion, etc...).. I know, it's hard to accommodate... and I came to a Mexican restaurant but hey! They were really great about it! I was going to order a chicken taco and a fish but the server told me that the chicken definitely was cooked with alliums and advised against it. They also recommended leaving out the chipotle and pico de gallo. I had 2 fish tacos with just the cabbage/lettuce blend and cheese on flour. The server came back after I ordered and told me they checked with the chef and everything would be okay for me to eat :) Shout out to Jules for also not being mad at my mom and her two friends because they didn't ask for separate checks and wanted it split.... Seriously, thank you

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't left a review here before. La Casa has always been on my top five Mexican restaurants in Rochester. I can't say it's the best ever but I enjoy it every single time. I usually get tacos when I go there. This time I tried their flan, and man oh man, wasn't it a very a delicious flan?! Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Taco Tuesday. Omg. They wer delicious. Beef brisket was the best.. 2 $ Tecate s. Was even better . Bartender was very nice and sociable. Definitely will be back here .

Yelp
Fantastic. The atmosphere is cool vibes. Lots of paintings and cool decor to check out. Quirky and cool. Great location right on Alexander as well. The staff and service were great. Attentive and helpful, but not annoying. The best part was the food though. We went on taco Tuesday for the $5 tacos. Lots of options and they were all good the pork and brisket were both standouts. We had to get some empanadas as well and they were just as good. We'll definitely go back.

Yelp
The interior is so cute- it's an old house with authentic Mexican decorations all throughout the restaurant. We sat upstairs and it was very intimate + cozy- plus the back patio has views of the Rochester skyline! Chips, salsa, and guac were delicious. The food was reasonably priced with options for everyone- great vegetarian options as well. Our server was friendly and attentive. Definitely give this a try!

Jessica S.

Yelp
My coworkers and I love to go to la casa for happy hour. Great prices on drinks and we always get the queso and guacamole and end up staying for dinner. This is one of the better Mexican restaurants in Rochester. 10/10 would recommend!!

Yelp
100% the place to go for consistency in flavor, service, ambiance and enjoyment. I have been here over 100 times (literally) and not once had a bad experience. You know what you are getting when you walk into this house on Alexander and it will never disappoint. You will always feel like Family sitting at this bar even if they call you the wrong name like your grandmother with Alzheimer's (maybe that's what makes it so special). The brisket burrito is my go-to here along with a house margarita. They use campo bravo blanco for their house margs which is a cost efficient, additive-free tequila. These people know what they're doing. Would give 6 stars if I could.

Yelp
I came to La Casa for the first time to celebrate a friend's birthday at around 8:00 pm and it was packed. On the outside, the restaurant has the feel of a house and is not very large on the inside. Because of it's size, there is not a lot of space when you are seated at your table if you have a mid-sized group and above. I ordered the dinner sopes which are vegetarian and consist of: masa cakes, cheese, pico de gallo, salsa verde, chipotle cream, refried beans, black beans, and rice (I added a fried egg). My meal was pretty good and it paired well with the tortilla chips and salsa we got for the table. While the food was good, it was very loud and crowded and I wouldn't recommend coming with a group.

Yelp
Went with a group during a lunch break right at opening. Very cold inside, but probably because they had just opened. Service was quick after we told them that we only had an hour break until our next meetings. Food was wonderful. We all got different things, brisket, carnitas, vegetarian, tacos, enchiladas, nachos. Margaritas were so strong.

Yelp
Great food, service and unique ambiance. We dine at La Casa often. The food is always on point and can't beat the warm/rustic/Latin feel of the place.

Yelp
Best tacos in Rochester! I'm always on the lookout for great grilled fish tacos and I'm so thrilled that La Casa consistently delivers. We love the casual patio outdoor space. It really feels like you're in someone's home! Staff is always friendly and warm.

Yelp
La casa was great! Went on taco Tuesday and this place was popping even at 5pm exactly. I went to celebrate a friends birthday and it did not disappoint. The food was very good, I got three tacos -the pork, the carne asada, and the fish. My person fav was the pork but many of the people in my group liked the fish. I also got a side of rice and beans. For how busy it was, the service was excellent and the drinks were strong enough to feel worth it. The location from the outside doesn't appear very large but it is quite big on the inside. The parking lot is located next to the building and if you go during a busy time be prepared to have to find parking elsewhere (street parking). If you get lucky to get a spot they are a little tight so not amazing for bigger vehicles.

Yelp
Finally, me and my wife found a Mexican restaurant here in Rochester that we love. This is like a hole in the wall place. I would never imaging it's a restaurant if I walk by this place. It looks like a house from outside l, especially because it is surrounded by some of them. The indoor ambience is very different and nice. They have outdoor seating too. We were there on a Friday evening and it was very crowded. There was a pretty long wait time. The first round of chips and salsa are complimentary and unlike other Mexican restaurants, if you ask for more chips and salsa, they charge extra. But, that's fine. The first serving is good quantity. Also, these chips and salsa very flavorful. The seasoning on the chips and salsa was spot on. We ordered chicken enchiladas and chicken tacos. The quantity was perfect. Very filling. And the chicken was juicy and flavorful. We loved it. Definitely the best Mexican we had in Rochester. Also, we were there before 6 pm and they have happy hour from 4-6 everyday. The house Margheritas are $6 during happy hour and they were potent enough. Overall, we will definitely be back again and again.

Yelp
The best thing about this restaurant is the restaurant itself. It is a renovated city home turned small restaurant. It is so cute inside and also has outdoor seating. Menu isn't too overwhelming with a lot of normal traditional Mexican dishes. The highlight is the a la carte tacos. Definitely easy to order like 5 and still want more. Service is always friendly but sometimes not quick if they're busy. If you bring a large party, don't have any time limitations.

Yelp
Steak fajitas were fantastic. Service was great. Margarita was decent. WILL be back for the tacos.

Dixië R.

Yelp
The food here is out of this world good. I've never eaten a quesadilla that good in my life. My husband got a variety of tacos, the fish one was the best. Everything is so flavorful and the service is quick and friendly. He also got a Margarita and said it was perfect as well. Only thing I can say is that it was very dark in there and if we hadn't sat by the window we wouldn't have seen our delicious food. The menu was the perfect size as well. (Not very big) You can tell when a place has good food by the number of items on their menu. 9/10 review !!

Yelp
Drinks: A+ Atmosphere: A Food: C Staff: B (inaccurate order and check but friendly) I visited La Casa for Taco Tuesday. The drinks ($6 palmoas) were PHENOMENAL. Tequila is my least favorite liquor and it didn't matter. In fact I think I was converted to a tequila lover! Unfortunately I can't say the same about the food. Being Taco Tuesday I had to get some tacos. They are $4 each with six flavors to choose from. You can also choose corn or flour tortillas (get corn - trust me). I ordered a veggie, ground beef and fish taco. I received a veggie, brisket and fish taco. I didn't correct the waiter and it was OK because the brisket was the best one. The veggie taco was pretty good but kind of lackluster. I'm used to veggie tacos having some kind of meaty, stand-out veggie like mushrooms or tofu. These just seemed like they had mushy peppers and onions. There could have been more in there but it wasn't noticeable. I saved the worst for last. The fish taco. It was breaded fried fish with a really weird plasticy flavor. Like the deep fry oil was bad or something. It had a pineapple pico which sounds better than it was. My conclusion: get the brisket taco with corn tortillas. And don't forget the palomas!

Yelp
Took a friend there for a b'day dinner, and it was delicious. My friend had the sopes, and I can't believe he ate them all because it was a lot of food. He was very happy with them. I had the veggie enchiladas with mole'. They were light and delicious. The mole' was different than any I had ever had, with a strong clove flavor, but it worked. I could only eat 2 and was happy to take one home for the next day along with some of the sides of rice and beans, which were also tasty. The margarita was also good, but too much ice in the glass on a very cold night, burrrr. The real treat was the flan, one of the best I've had in a very long time outside of Mexico or Spain. Big enough for 2 of us to share. It was absolutely delicious! The waiter was nice, and a bit of a character which added to the charm. It is small, and if busy, you will be seated close to your neighbor. But I would definitely go back. It is quaint and charming.

Yelp
I have been a big fan of La casa and love their queso and tacos but I went recently and it took an hour for the food to come out and when it did our orders were wrong. We also only got checked on once in the hour and never asked if we wanted more drinks. The food is very good but the service needs some serious improvements. I usually give them grace because they're so busy but it was pretty slow and still took so long.

Sandy K.

Yelp
Fantastic service, great atmosphere, the food was amazing, hot and fresh. Will be coming back again in near future.

Yelp
The people in this place are some of the nicest workers I've ever met. We ordered drinks and guac and queso both very good, but the drinks were very strong and seem to definitely have a heavy pour. I love that this place is located in a old house. The atmosphere is very cultural and relaxed. I ordered the La Casa Ensalada with chicken which was very good.
google avatar

Katia T.

Yelp
The interior to this place is beautiful. It is truly a hidden gem in Rochester, but the area that it's in is one of the reasons I do not go here that often asked for the sopes as they were absolutely delicious I particularly did not favor the cheese dip or the drink it was way too strong and just tasted like tequila. I do recommend this place I just wish it was in a nicer area.

Yelp
i'm not one to say this lightly as this is the first time this has every happened to me.. but after dinner here I was out for 3 days with food poisoning. we came here because of how good the reviews were. Maybe we got an off night or maybe they left something out too long or what but both me and my friend felt weird driving home and then that same night were just violently ill. I couldn't go to work the next day or the day after that and neither did she. We weren't together the whole day and we are both positive it was from this dinner. What makes it even more sad is that the food was really good. Sad to say but I won't be returning.

Yelp
I tried La Casa for the first time and it was about what I expected. The location is really cute and truly does feel like a house. The service was excellent as well. I got a margarita and the shrimp tacos - both were just okay. Definitely edible and good, but not the best Mexican I've had in Rochester. I would probably come back here for the atmosphere, but not specifically for the food or drinks. It does feel fairly authentic, but again, not the best 'authentic' Mexican food I've had in Rochester. Also, for a Friday night - they didn't seem too busy. FYI there is also a small parking lot which was full, but street parking was also available.

Jamie L.

Yelp
Food was good, service was awful. The host and server looked at us like we didn't belong when they saw we had our 8 month old with us. Felt very uncomfortable the entire dinner and couldn't wait to leave.

Nicole B.

Yelp
This is our go-to place when we can't decide what we want for lunch or dinner! Drinks are great every time and food is consistent. You can't go wrong with anything in the menu, but any dish with the brisket is elite!
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, phenomenal food, and suburb service. The brisket tacos are a 10/10! Add this to your next outing.

Emily M.

Yelp
Years ago the food was better but we all know that. It's basic Tex Mex now. Service was horrendous and then came the scam. I was given a bill that I looked at it was correct. I was a handed a charge with two extra plates to the cost of $38 added. It was fixed but I'm having a hard time thinking it was a genuine mistake. I and my friend will definitely not be going back again. Very sketchy!!!!

Yelp
Another nice dining experience in Rochester/home away from home. Places like this are my favorite. Great food in unique neighborhoods. These gems are why I avoid the chains. I enjoyed the sopes with chicken with a side of guacamole. They mix some strong margaritas here I am not a fan of overly, sweet drinks, but these were a little heavy on the lime juice. I hate to criticize, because overall, a great place!

Kristin K.

Yelp
Our first visit to Rochester and we'll definitely be back specifically to have dinner here again. Very cute and quirky joint and the food was fantastic. Super friendly staff, too. Loved it!

Yelp
I have been desperate to try this place ever since I received a gift card last year. An early Cinco de Mayo date night was the perfect excuse! I could tell my fellow Yelpers had mixed reviews, so I was ready to be objective. We arrived around 8pm on a Friday to a 45 minute wait (due to a private party upstairs). We opted for free seats at the bar which turned out to be perfect for both conversation and fast service. I had a Paloma as well as a blackberry margarita, while husband had a Mezcal mule - all 3 were delicious and not cheaply made, which I definitely appreciate. For dinner, I ordered carnitas tacos. While most everything was generously portioned, it did seem that the amount of meat dwindled as I progressed through my 3 tacos. It ended up not mattering as I was fairly full by the time I was done, and everything was delicious and well-seasoned. Husband got the brisket tacos which were also great, if not terribly "Mexican"-tasting. The service was incredibly friendly, and I was consequently easily talked into the churros for dessert. They were the best things ever but definitely meant to be shared. 3 churros is too many, just so you know. All in all, I felt like we got our money's worth. Nothing was overpriced and everything we tried was delish. The only complaint was the wait-list situation - it was long (before we decided to sit at the bar) without anywhere good to stand and wait. Minor stuff. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
First time trying sopes now I'm hooked! I added a fried egg on top (because who said eggs were for breakfast only?!) and it was a great touch. The mocktail they made me tasted like lemon flavored water, but the queso made up for where the drink lacked. We were all full before the entrees came from the queso and salsa. The indoor seating seemed very dark just walking through, so we scored a nice spot outside in the warm shade. I loved the outdoor seating in the back and they also have patio seating upstairs. I'd definitely return for the sopes!

Yelp
Can somebody shout: Taco Tuesday! First taco Tuesday in the area. I believe I picked a good spot for my first experience. To start, the ambiance is great. Loved the cultural decor throughout the restaurant. The restaurant spacing has a tight and cozy feel, which is quite different from a typical American restaurant. La Casa has two levels along with outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. A bar is located on the first floor. After being seated for a good 10 minutes, our waiter finally came by. We were given a stack of seasoned tortillas with a side of salsa. I'll admit; I almost got full off of the chips and salsa. They were THAT good. I ordered two veggie tacos on flour and a fish taco, also on flour. Delicious!!! I thought the tacos were going to be skimp, but three tacos had me feeling pretty satisfied! The bathroom. Oh, the bathroom. Such an amazing design. Instead of paper towels, individual hand towels were available for use. After you're done, you just toss the used towel in the basket. This was a great touch to add to the vibe of the restaurant. The bathroom sink popped with design and color! Yes, I'm commenting on the bathroom sink. For those who appreciate art, you'll find this to be a nice touch! Things that could've been better: parking. We had to park about 7 minutes walking distance from the restaurant. I do understand the popularity on Tuesdays but a parking lot expansion would be great! Also, I wish we would've had a more engaged, attentive, and friendly waiter. Obvious that he didn't want to work. Sometimes you just have to smile and keep it pushing, my friend.

Annie S.

Yelp
such a colorful environment with cute decor. Theres indoor and outdoor seating -- outdoor has a nice patio with murals surrounding it. I've only gotten the tacos but they've always been good!!

Igor O.

Yelp
Easily top two mexican restaurants in the city. I believe I've tried them all. Very friendly staff, delicious food and not "americanized". The ambience is also cozy and authentic. I will come back many times.

Yelp
I love the vibe of this place. My first time coming here was near the beginning of when COVID started so it was takeout only. I was shook that the restaurant was in an actual house! I was not expecting that and I thought that was so cool! The interior looked amazing and I loved the decorations so I told myself I would come again when dine-in opened again. The first time I got the classic carne asada tacos. They were BOMB. It came with Mexican rice and retried beans. I will say, the beans were not that memorable, but the tacos really made up for it in my opinion. The second time I came with a friend and we sat on the "porch." The atmosphere was great, they have giant picnic tables and paintings and there's even an upstairs area outside. The fairy lights were so cute too. I could totally see if things were different, just a bunch of families socializing and talking and maybe even someone playing a guitar in the corner. In case you haven't realized, the atmosphere is really what made this place special for me. My friend and I came during happy hour as well and each got a Paloma. They were half off the day we came which is a really good deal! Can't really say much about the Paloma, it was pretty average and simple, nothing special about it. The enchiladas, in the other hand, I have much to say. I got chicken enchiladas and they were so dang good. The shredded chicken was so juicy and flavorful and it honestly didn't look like much at first, but each enchilada was STUFFED. Just like how I was at the end of the meal. If you ever get the chance, you must visit La Casa! It's such a unique restaurant! It's literally in a neighborhood with other houses! Also there's a good amount of parking, even though the parking lot is pretty narrow.

Yelp
Slow slow slow. Very Average Mexican food. Nice people. College crowd. Drinks seem decent.

Yelp
Terrific Can't wait to go back. Great service , interesting decor, very good food . Waitress was friendly and efficient

Yelp
So this place was raved about by a friend. So my wife I where in the area so thought let's check it it for our self's. The decor and ambience is very cool. We hit them during happy hour and got a couple of house margaritas for $6 each. These guys to not skimp on the booze in their margaritas. My wife had the steak tacos and I ordered the fish tacos. These first off are not street taco size they are full on taco size. We both found our tacos to be amazing. The side were very good a Mexican style rice and beans. We both got some of both black beans and refried beans. This place I highly recommend. It is will now be our go to place when in the south wedge area.

Yelp
Second time coming here for lunch with my wife and both times have been great. We are both vegetarians and can only comment on their meatless dishes. We had Sopes and vegetarian enchiladas and both were delicious. Our waiter was kept us happy and made great suggestions.

Cate O.

Yelp
I had lunch at La Casa Thursday 6/29/23. They had only 2 tables occupied when our party arrived. We asked if we could sit outside. Although the air quality wasn't perfect it was mild enough for us to want to be outside. The hostess went to check with the waiter Jack. He told her - right in front of us- "I'm not going outside". Regardless of what the guests wanted. That was not only rude but unprofessional. when he took our order one guest wanted to go last because he needed extra time. Jack said no and waited for his order, rushing his decision, again, rude and unprofessional. When the orders were brought , one order was different from what the guest ordered. The guest asked the other guests. Did you hear me order this? they all had. So he returned with the correct food order, but it was time for us to leave, really unprofessional service. But the food was phenomenal as always.

Yelp
I am totally a fan of this place. It has so much character and seems to always be packed, especially as it gets colder and the out door seating area isn't too populated. But anyways let's get to why it's so good. Atmosphere, drink specials, and the pride&joy of all- empanadas. Seriously, the empanadas need their own paragraph and are the only thing highlighted since everything else is self explanatory. But let me just paint you this picture. Chicken, bacon, cheesey goodness. The flavors are out of this world; plus add a crisp crunchy perfectly fried exterior, & you will be in heaven. Rice and beans come with the plate and the chips for the table are fabulously seasoned. Basically, I'm a fan and you all should try this place, specifically... the empanadas. You got it, it comes in 3s, and just enjoy. Granted the other specialties are great too, this place is moderately priced and the guac is okay. But grab a house marg with sugar rim and an E M P A N A D A And you will leave happy and satisfied, I promise

Yelp
I finally made my way to this place and was actually able to get a table on taco Tuesday! I was real excited since I had heard so many great things. The restaurant itself can be kind of confusing as there's two places where hostesses can take you, so it's like where am I supposed to go.... The food on the other hand was pretty decent. I ordered a pork taco and a brisket taco with a side of guacamole ($4). The pork taco was by far my favorite, it was super flavorful. The brisket taco was definitely a disappointment for me, but the guacamole really broke my heart. It was sweet which left me kind of like what, why? It could be a preference thing, but I enjoy my guacamole more savory with some fresh garlic and red onions, and I definitely didn't see or taste that in their guacamole. I also think the tacos could be "elevated" if instead of the lettuce and tomatoes or cole slaw they have going on, just put the classic onions and cilantro, especially on that pork taco which I think would work really well. Their chips that they dole out are delicious but a little spicy sometimes. I thought the service was good, but they aren't necessarily the friendliest but nothing else to really complain about there. Overall, I think I'm pretty disappointed especially with all the hype I got about this place.

Yelp
Ah La Casa... it once felt like Mi Casa, but now I feel like a stranger to this place. Back in 2013 I loved your cuisine. I spent my Monday evenings here with friends, came for lunch on the weekends and hung out at your bar after long work days. Of course, life gets in the way and I took a hiatus from travelling to Alexander Street for great Mexican cuisine, which brings me here to today in 2017, where the food feels totally disconnected from what I was spoiled by. I came here on a busy afternoon with a couple of friends for a quick bite. That quick bite turned into a 2 hour affair. Usually I don't mind a little R&R while eating with company, but we all had a lot of stuff to do that day, so I found that a little disappointing. I know how insane it can get when a huge crowd comes in and sends the kitchen in chaos, so my review isn't really about the wait or service. Actually, the service was actually on point, pleasant, and helpful. This really comes down to the food. I ordered the Chicken Enchilada lunch with mole sauce, while my friends ordered the veggie tacos and burrito with a side of queso. My friend, an avid vegetarian, had plenty to eat with these large tacos, but was very disappointed in the flavor in preparation. My other friend had no qualms with his burrito, but we were all disappointed in the queso; it was pretty bland with a granular texture. My enchiladas were well presented, and a large portion size for the price... but looks can be deceiving. The shredded chicken was decently marinated an stood out from the slightly sweet mole sauce, but nothing else about the dish was memorable or impressionable. The rice and beans very much lacked flavor and personality, also I found myself eating only because I was hungry from waiting so long, not because I enjoyed it. They do say hunger is the best spice, right? I feel really bad about writing a review like this, because if I was into Yelp back in the day when I frequented this place, I would have given this place an easy 5, contingent on the cuisine being the same. I did hear the quality took a hit, and I'm really discouraged to find that out for myself. I guess I have to travel to Sodus again for my Mexican fix. Ay dios mio :(

Yelp
Can I give this a "6"? Stopped in for lunch on Saturday between soccer matches in Fairport. Very happy soccer mom here! Started this meal with a quesadilla with brisket. (Note: if your meal comes with a meat option I would choose the brisket every time- subtle sweetness and moist and yummy). Hubby tried the Tres Puercos tacos (chorizo, chicken and bacon) and he even let me try a bite - so glad I did! I opted for the carnivore option - the Plato de casa. While the menu asks you to select a meat, Amanda's response to my asking which she would recommend was - try the rainbow- a little of all three (and when she checked back and I told her I loved the brisket, my "take-home container had extra brisket!!! Wait, can you tell I liked the brisket?!) Would love to stop in on a sunny day to enjoy the outdoor deck - which looks like a fun time. Loved the (unisex) bathrooms because of the multi-color options for wash clothes to dry my hands. Will for sure be stopping back when I'm in Rochester again!
