Yelp
Ah La Casa... it once felt like Mi Casa, but now I feel like a stranger to this place. Back in 2013 I loved your cuisine. I spent my Monday evenings here with friends, came for lunch on the weekends and hung out at your bar after long work days. Of course, life gets in the way and I took a hiatus from travelling to Alexander Street for great Mexican cuisine, which brings me here to today in 2017, where the food feels totally disconnected from what I was spoiled by.
I came here on a busy afternoon with a couple of friends for a quick bite. That quick bite turned into a 2 hour affair. Usually I don't mind a little R&R while eating with company, but we all had a lot of stuff to do that day, so I found that a little disappointing. I know how insane it can get when a huge crowd comes in and sends the kitchen in chaos, so my review isn't really about the wait or service. Actually, the service was actually on point, pleasant, and helpful. This really comes down to the food.
I ordered the Chicken Enchilada lunch with mole sauce, while my friends ordered the veggie tacos and burrito with a side of queso. My friend, an avid vegetarian, had plenty to eat with these large tacos, but was very disappointed in the flavor in preparation. My other friend had no qualms with his burrito, but we were all disappointed in the queso; it was pretty bland with a granular texture.
My enchiladas were well presented, and a large portion size for the price... but looks can be deceiving. The shredded chicken was decently marinated an stood out from the slightly sweet mole sauce, but nothing else about the dish was memorable or impressionable. The rice and beans very much lacked flavor and personality, also I found myself eating only because I was hungry from waiting so long, not because I enjoyed it. They do say hunger is the best spice, right?
I feel really bad about writing a review like this, because if I was into Yelp back in the day when I frequented this place, I would have given this place an easy 5, contingent on the cuisine being the same. I did hear the quality took a hit, and I'm really discouraged to find that out for myself. I guess I have to travel to Sodus again for my Mexican fix.
Ay dios mio :(
