Intimate Mexican Hotels For A Warm Vacation

"Located two hours from Mexico City, Valle de Bravo is still a bit of a hidden gem. And one star amongst the bunch is La Casa Rodavento, the seven-suite hotel marrying old and new Mexico. Three rooms are located in the historic structure with the rest in the more recently built addition, however all feature modern furnishings and electronics." - The MICHELIN Guide

La Casa Rodavento is one of those rare places that makes you feel instantly at ease—like you’ve stumbled into a well-kept secret. From the moment we checked in, the service was warm, genuine, and effortlessly attentive. Everyone on staff was lovely, but Mariana, the manager, stood out. She was incredibly kind, and her recommendations helped us discover some of the best spots when we returned to Mexico City. You can tell she truly cares about making your stay special. One of the best management experiences we’ve ever had! ||The rooftop is a dream—perfect for sipping a cocktail while watching the view. And the pool feels like a hidden sanctuary. It’s quiet, surrounded by greenery, and somehow always the right temperature. We spent hours there without even realizing time had passed.||The food was another highlight. Every meal felt thoughtful and fresh, with beautiful flavors and presentation. We had breakfast on the terrace each morning, and it was honestly one of the best parts of our day.||It’s hard to describe the feeling this place gives you—it’s luxurious but unpretentious, stylish but comfortable, and deeply relaxing. We left feeling recharged and already talking about when we could come back.||I truly believe if this hotel were anywhere else it would be twice the price. Exceded our expectations and more!

We spent our 10th anniversary in this place, specifically 'Suite 2' which was incredible. We got greeted with a surprise margarita cocktail and cake. The location is unique as it's a 3 minute walk to the main plaza but it's in a quiet and safe street. The pool is warm and comfortable for reading. The restaurant features incredible Thai inspired dishes, and the rooftop terrace with the hot tub was the cherry on top. ||Highly highly recommend for an away weekend, special occasion.

The hotel facilities are nice, great heated pool, nice architecture... But if you are paying $400+ a night you should receive good service and a pleasant stay. My room was adjacent to the reception office and just besides a busy street, you can hear every bike, car and people passing by all night, the noise from the AC was horrible and at night a pool pump or some kind or motor turns on and you can clearly hear it all night long. The used glass, plates and cups staid in my room for at least 24 hours, same with the trash in the bins, so no night room preparation or refresh... The room had a skylight window with a very poor and useless system to close, so you will have light in your eyes at 6:00 am in the morning. The AC in the room needed to be serviced so they decided to do the service while I was in my room, no AC for me for some time... Breakfast is included but don't be surprised that the only option is eggs and eggs, literally, that's it, so for $400+ I think a "continental" poor breakfast is just not enough, I complained to the manager and they changed my room for an "upgrade" which was nice, the new room was much better and quiet, It solved most of the issues, but don't get fooled the room they game me was $500+ a night, they didn't charge me extra though. As I complained about the breakfast option next day, they gave the option to order from the menu at no extra. So, they responded nicely when I complained, but for that price you shouldn't be complaining to get what you already paid for. So, chose wisely! it's expensive (For what they give you) and you won't "get back" your money sort of speak, I won't come back for sure... Too expensive to receive minimal service and a faulty and noisy room, that will be serviced once every 24 hours... Won't recommend, for the price there's much better options in the small boutique hotel segment in Valle de Bravo...

The hotel is absolutely charming! Our room was beautiful and the courtyard with its small swimming pool and bougainvillea is gorgeous. The service is caring and friendly and the restaurant was excellent. They took special care of us, and made sure that we had an early breakfast so that we could make our early morning tours. The only downside was that pre-arrival communication was difficult, but don’t be put off because once you arrive it’s very beautiful. Also, Hyatt told me that they were completely sold out and Hyatt couldn’t make the booking, but, in reality, all rooms were available. So, if Hyatt tells you that they’re sold out, then contact the hotel directly or Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I’m surprised that there are no TripAdvisor reviews since December 2023. You will enjoy this charming boutique hotel.

What a secret luxurious hotel tucked away like an oasis. We stayed for 3 nights in room 6 which was upstairs. Super helpful staff always. Room is fabulous, with a huge luxurious bathroom and best shower ever. Bed is so comfortable and very quiet at night time. We don't speak Spanish but the staff all tried their best to communicate with us and we all managed perfectly fine. Their restaurant is all just perfect. Highly recommend.

We stayed at Casa Rodavento for two nights so we could go see the butterfly reserve about two hours away. The hotel is really lovely with a nice bar, heated pool and upstairs hot tub. The hotel was helpful with arranging a driver for us to go see the butterflies, and making a last minute change with him to our schedule the next day. We also really appreciated their flexibility with making us an early breakfast. My only complaint is that only one staff member that I met there during our stay spoke English. We had one person in our group who spoke a bit of Spanish so that was a life saver in terms of getting information about breakfast, etc. For a hotel of this caliber though I'd expect the staff to at least have some basic English abilities.

My husband and I stayed here for a week during the summer and it was a dream. We rented a room with a balcony to work during the week. We got up early and went for walks and hikes. Loved being in this cute colonial house. The room and shared spaces are beautiful. It was quite quiet despite being in the middle of downtown. It’s walking distance from many restaurants. We had breakfast here every day and the food was tasty and good quality, the space very pleasing to sit in and the service was very friendly. The laundry service was also great and everyone at the hotel was very helpful. While here I dreamed of being able to move to Valle and work at distance - that’s how much we enjoyed our stay! Really hope to go back!

I rated this hotel as excellent, because, despite a couple of drawbacks, our overall experience was wonderful. The property is so beautiful and peaceful, with professional and attentive staff. We had to contact staff a couple of times for questions and they responded immediately and were always helpful. The location is only a couple of blocks from the main plaza and close to many shops and restaurants, so we were able to walk everywhere. The pool and garden area is perfect for having a drink and relaxing after a day of touring, as is the rooftop area. The room was very attractive and I have to comment especially on the bathroom because it is so large and well designed that it really makes an impression. Now for the problem: Our room was on the far end of the hotel, the last one on the water system (as the staff later explained). This meant that no matter how long we let the water run in the bathroom sink, it never got hot unless you first primed it by running the bathtub or shower fully open in order to bring in enough volume to get the hot water to the room. Even with this solution, it took several minutes to get hot water. When I complained of no hot water in the sink, the staff was immediately attentive, explained the situation and gave us the solution, so I thank them for that. However, I don't think I should have to do special tricks to get hot water in the sink at a hotel of this quality. There are obvious solutions to this (as I know from experience) and I cannot understand why they allow this to remain as it is. Not only is it inconvenient, it wastes a lot of water and energy, which costs the hotel more. It should be addressed. A minor issue was that the area rug in the bedroom had obvious stains on it and should be cleaned. Again, not a good look for a hotel of this quality. Still, on balance, this experience was excellent, as much for the staff as for the hotel itself (including the restaurant, which I have reviewed on its own listing).
