Urbanspace Food Hall Opens in Union Square | Eater NY

"Although nominally Italian (and not really Tuscan), Casa Toscana produces generous sandwiches on focaccia; I particularly admired the eggs bacon parm ($10), with scrambled eggs, a pungent shaved cheese, and slices of pancetta that add a funky note to what is basically a BEC." - Robert Sietsema

I last visited La Casa Toscana when they were located in Anaconda, so it had been years and I was excited to return and as a plus experience their change in location. Brought my husband this time. We had made reservations online and were greeted by Amanda immediately upon entry to the restaurant. She seated us quickly and even gave us a choice between 2 different tables/spots. I would say on this particular Friday night at 6pm is was not busy, a handful of open tables- however it did get busier before our evening ended. Such a beautiful space and atmosphere. Amanda was our waitress and she was a gem- very attentive and sweet. Food was fantastic: lasagna... chef's kiss all around- loved that it wasn't spicy and was not made with Italian sausage. Very cheesy and tasted like a homemade meal- but from Italy... and made with lots of love. 🙂 Filet mignon... husband said it was great, although he did order medium rare and felt it came out rare/blue. But he did say it tasted excellent. We enjoyed the drinks from the bar as well. We agree it is a worthy, romantic location- just mind your wallet- $$$-$$$$. I would definitely return as a first choice! (I think hubby would return because I go). We spent $177 ((4 alcoholic drinks (2 per person), 1 soda, 1 seperately ordered appetizer, two 4-course meals)) not including tip. My husband, nor I, at any point felt like a burden or neglected. It was a very enjoyable experience. Ps- on a side note, for some reason I fell in love with their water glasses/goblets- thought they were beautiful, the owner did declined my request to purchase 2 of them but now it's got me on a hunt to find replicas. 🙂 kind of a fun scavenger hunt.

Google
4 stars for food because I had to send my first steak back to be recooked. I asked for medium rare and it came out blue rare. The 2nd steak was perfect and delicious. Had it came out that way the 1st time, I would have given 5 stars. The owner did come out to deliver the 2nd steak which I did appreciate. All other food items were wonderfully yummy and the bartender Jaime was amazing! If you do the 4 course meal it ends up being pricey but I did enjoy it.

My husband and I came to the restaurant on a whim (and without a reservation) since we are not from Butte. We were immediately greeted and they got us right in. It is such a nice cozy atmosphere in the dining room. Our server was so personable and made sure to explain how the menu worked. The chef even stopped by to say hello and make sure we were being taken care of as she walked by. We did the 4 course meals- the charcuterie board was just the right amount- the focaccia was delicious and my hubby loved the goat cheese and jelly combo. Salads came next and were tasty. Our entrees came and were an enormous amount of food-we were able to enjoy it again the next day with the leftovers. My husband said it was the best lasagna he has ever had and my chicken parm was so good. Some of the desserts were out when we ordered, but they had a piece of blueberry crumble cheesecake and my husband has now found a new favorite dessert that he said was “perfect in every way.” I had the flourless chocolate cake and it was like eating decadent fudge-yummy! We will definitely come back whenever we are back in Butte!! Thank so much for making us feel welcome and giving us a wonderful dining experience!!

Not only did we have an amazing experience dining in, but we had La Casa cater our wedding, which left us speechless. When we first checked out this restaurant; we were blown away by the service we received. Everyone who waited on us as friendly and personable. Food was outstanding- everything was fresh and had a ton of flavor. Atmosphere was next level. Because of all of this, it was a no brainer to go with La Casa for our catering. Not only were the prices the best in town for the quality, but Sonia’s communication and motivation to make our day even more special made us feel more like family than customers. Immediate responses to emails and texts, thoughtful recommendations for what options to choose and how much, and even options for those with dietary restrictions turned something we were stressing about into something easy. On the day of, the crew from La Casa was in and out in a flash. Everything was beautifully staged, and the food looked awesome and was smoking hot- even after a trip to Deer Lodge. Most importantly- everything was delicious. If you are looking for a fabulous place to eat, and an awesome team for any catering event look no further. Thank you Sonia and La Casa Toscana for such an amazing experience.

Always a fantastic experience. Friendly staff, fresh ingredients, and generous portions. The lasagna is out of this world—10/10 recommend!

Google
Every experience is wonderful! Food is outstanding! Always made to feel welcome and you can taste the love put into every meal! Highly recommend! Just a few of the amazing, mouthwatering meals I have enjoyed, when I remember to get a picture before I devour the blessings set before me!

Google
This is an authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of the Rockies - Butte, America! Sonia, our chef, is brilliant and puts love into every dish. No matter the season, the atmosphere is electric. Try the Lobster Ravioli or feast on the Prime Rib. Uptown Butte's best and definitely one of the best restaurants in the entire region. Don't forget the Canolis. Va bene! Ciao!!!

Google
After having a previous unpleasant visit, we decided to try it again. I'm really glad we did. The food was great! Our server Carly was super friendly and knowledgeable. Seating was a bit uncomfortable, but it was a pleasant experience.

Yelp
So authentic and fresh, La Casa Toscana is where I go when I feel like taking myself, or a friend, for a little date. In fact, my friend and I just met there a couple weeks ago! The lobster ravioli is wonderful and makes me miss New England and Italy all at once. The Filet Mignon was tender, fresh and made excellent leftovers for later. I'm a sucker for a caprese salad and theirs really hits the spot. Also, the Buratta on Focaccia was fabulous. I dated someone in France many years ago and we travelled to Italy several times. Eating here really takes me back to some lovely memories during that time. Sonia is a powerhouse and has, in my humble opinion, the best Italian food around. I've also enjoyed the Gnocchi with Pesto and Focaccia. Honestly, with this menu, you can't go wrong. Thank you!

Yelp
Discovering a Gold Dining experience in a Copper town! Hungry after a day of sight seeing in Butte we found La Casa Toscana 20 minutes before their closing time and were graciously welcomed by the owner to a cozy setting which exuded a sense of warmth! Amanda took care of us with a warmth and knowledge which helped to guide our dinner selections and was gracious the entire evening! Our dinners whether pizza or pasta were of a high quality beautifully prepared with an appealing presentation. The salad dressing was outstanding as well as the wine selection which was impressive! What started out to be a quick dinner turned into a first class dining experience! Thank you to the owner who did not turn us away when we arrived 20 minutes before closing. You are the "Gold" of the dining scene in Butte!

Yelp
Service 5 Stars, Food 5 Stars, Soup 5 Stars, Desert 5 Stars Some of the best food West of the Mississippi! This place should have waiting list 1 mile long.

Ronald F.

Yelp
We have dined here a few times. The service and atmosphere are wonderful. I am not an expert on Italian food, but I know what I like, and have never had a bad meal here.

Yelp
What a fun time today when Sonia D Lewelling - Zachow, owner of La Casa Toscana, invited the public in during a filming of her beautiful restaurant by America's Best Restaurants which is on the Food Network or You Tube. Appetizers, sweets, and Willie's Distillery had some real flavorful selections for tasting. This episode will be on in June. Thank you Sonia and staff for a wonderful time. La Cosa Toscana is Butte's premier Italian restaurant with magnificent meal selections.

Yelp
This restaurant exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere was wonderful, the server was personable, the food was perfect!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I dined at La Casa Toscana after pursuing the Butte yelp list of restaurants. La Casa Toscana was one of the few restaurants open in Butte historic town and it was very close to where we were staying, so why not? Their menu is pretty interesting. Because everything is made fresh, I guess the menu isn't printed every day. It's also more eco friendly, so that's a win. They offered 5 different entrees and then you choose to either have the 4 course dinner or the two course dinner. The 4 course menu comes with an appetizer. Salad, your choice of entree and dessert. The 2 course menu is just a salad and the entree you choose. They have Italian wine, cocktails, delicious appetizers and a great waitstaff. The Bellini flight was good and Amanda was very friendly and accommodating. She checked on us often without being pushy and explained things really well. I ordered the two course menu with the lobster ravioli. My boyfriend and I also shared the seafood appetizer. It reminded me of cioppino. It was delicious. The salad was basic, but refreshing and the lobster ravioli was flavorful and the cheese sauce was super delicious. The interior is nice, although I think for the price point and great food, I would expect table cloths. It's a fancy place! If you're looking for delicious Italian food, I'd definitely consider La Casa Toscana!!

Jim R.

Yelp
Superb in every aspect! First, I got there at three, but they don't open till four. However, since it was just me, they insisted I come in and they would cook for me. I was surprised at the prices and was about to leave when they offered the two course dinner instead of the four. I can't eat four courses anymore so that was fine with me. I had the lasagna. I know they say that they make it in house, but I think it was shipped from heaven and sent right to the restaurant. Everything was homemade from the mozzarella, the noodles, the sauce and most important the béchamel. It's been a long time since I've had lasagna this delicious, filling, and at such a high level. The focaccia reminded me of what focaccia was supposed to taste like. I was raised in New York and knew what it was supposed to taste like, but it has been so bastardized by the corporate chain restaurants. It was just delightful. The owner was super friendly and the service was even more friendly. You get my highest recommendation.

Willy M.

Yelp
Not only is the food and service amazing, the staff and owner are beyond measure. While eating there recently, my son had an epileptic seizure. The staff not only called for help immediately, they also actively engaged in assisting me, helping me roll my son onto his side and holding him to prevent injury. If that wasn't enough, they delivered our food, which we were in the process of eating when the episode occurred , to the hospital and told us there was no charge for the meal. I can't possible thank them enough or give a glowing enough review, amazing people. Thank you so much.

Garrett S.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing and Carly our server was nothing short of the best!! Would recommend to anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine.

Linda P.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service very slow despite the fact that there were few patrons. We had the lasagna in the 4 course meal and walked away for enough for several more meals
google avatar

Jim C.

Yelp
Amazing Lasagne Bolognese, Cavatelli, and Tortellini. Chianti paired well, and service was impeccable. Cant wait to come back to Butte and enjoy again.

Tara K.

Yelp
I don't understand how this place has such good reviews. The food was all terrible! I ordered the salad and it had tomatoes that were rock hard and was like something you'd have to eat at an airport. My son ordered a pizza with olives and they didn't tell us they ran out of olives until they were serving us the pizza. My husband ordered steak and the broccolini was bland and gross, as was the pasta. Seriously the worst food I've had in a long time. The service was also painfully slow, we ordered plain spaghetti for our youngest and they didn't bring it out until they brought everything - 45 min later. And it was expensive!!

Susan H.

Yelp
So wonderful! I moved here from a very big city. BEST restaurant in Montana!! Food, atmosphere, service ALL FANTASTIC!!!

Richard B.

Yelp
We were very disappointed. The food was just okay for a very expensive dinner. The portions were small. Service definitely could have been better. We will not be returning.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
This is designed as a 2-course or 4-course experience. I had the chicken. It is a little more expensive than the other places we've been in Butte, but I believe was worth the money. They were out of the soup, and the cake. So we have the charcuterie, salad, entree and gelato. The charcuterie had raspberry, jalapeño jam with cheese, salami, focaccia bread, olives. The jam was delicious with the cheese and the bread. I also tried it with the salami. I don't do spicy, and it was the perfect amount of heat and sweet. The salad had a blood orange vinaigrette which was tart and very complimentary of the greens. The chicken was breaded with a lemon sauce, a garlic mashed potato and asparagus. The breading was crispy and the sauce was flavorful but didn't overwhelm the chicken. The potatoes and asparagus were perfectly cooked. The owner/head chef came over and was very nice. Super nice dinner!

Yelp
A delicious Italian restaurant in down town Butte, Montana! They offer individual meals, 2 course meal (salad + entree), or a 4 course (appetizer, salad, entree and dessert). I've been there on two separate occasions and the meals have always been great. The first time I had the lobster ravioli and my only complaint was it was a bit salty for my taste. My kids had the spaghetti and meatballs in which the sauce in my opinion should be their crowning jewel! Third time I had their lasagna which was amazing. We had the cannoli because both times we've been there their tiramisu was not available. All in all it's a great restaurant and you should not be disappointed!

Jean L.

Yelp
Do not be turned iff by the facade! The interior could be in Italy! We just had the most delightful and delicious dinner tonight. Their 4 course dinner started with a lovely charcuterie board: delicious! A fresh salad followed by the best lasagna we have ever had, ending with a strawberry dessert! Best dinner so far in our week long road trip! Great service as well! 5 Stars!!

William H.

Yelp
Good service great food. Unique atmosphere, an all around fun place to be, highly recommend it a pleasure to go there. Money well spent

Phoebe H.

Yelp
We had the lasagna and the lobster ravioli along with the bread and salad. Both were great. Ambience is lovely. Service was excellent.

Beverly H.

Yelp
Delicious food, exquisite chef, friendly and helpful wait staff. My favorite is the lasagna.

Raean B.

Yelp
Discovered this on Yelp, as we have been visiting Butte for years and had never heard of it. Apparently we were just late to the party. This Old World Italian place is one of the best in the State. From the ambiance to the staff, everything was amazing. The owner/chef made a point to check & chat with us, on top of putting out high quality, stunning dishes. They made our evening a much welcomed intimate and relaxing experience. Don't skip this place if you are looking for something just a notch above most fine dinning in the area. It's definitely worth it.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
We have dined here a number of times when we travel to Butte to see family. Love the ambience and the staff are always friendly and engaging. The price fixe menu is more food than necessary but the charcuterie antipasti board is a nice starter, the salad is crisp, and flavorful (tonight's dressing was an orange shallot) the the entrees provide something for every palate. The homemade cavatelli with ricotta paired up beautifully with their delicious pesto as well as with the meat sauce. The lobster ravioli with grilled shrimp is always a crowd (and wife) pleaser. The wine list is compact but offers a nice range of Italian choices. Dessert tonight was a light lemon cake....perfect. This is a little taste of Italy.
google avatar

Deb V.

Yelp
Being married to a native born Italian who makes his own Bolognese sauce, which when properly made, takes over 3 hours of constant stirring, this sauce was far from any Bolognese sauce we've ever had. It was watery, had minimal flavor and there was hardly any meat in it. The fixed menu was strange, especially if you don't want all four courses. We don't eat desserts and sometimes prefer to only have a main course and salad. We won't be back.
google avatar

Rick W.

Yelp
The food and the service are very good. The only thing I was disappointed with were the serving sizes for the price. In all fairness, maybe I should have gone with the 4 courses for the extra twenty dollars.
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
We walked in a few minutes before close and was still able to grab dinner and boy were we happy for that. We did a 2 course and 4 course pre fix dinner so that was nice. The anti pasta with the fresh focaccia was delicious. I had the mushroom pasta with a light sauce. The pasta was so fresh and just melted in your mouth. My husband had the lasagna and the portion size easily could feed 2. The lasagna was the best my husband had and he is Italian. The marinara and the bechamel sauce was extremely flavorful. We chatted with the owner for quite some time after close which was lovely. When your in Butte this is a must.
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
This is a truly unique and wonderful dining experience. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. The quality of food is not something one readily finds in Butte. The staff and owner are outgoing and friendly. This is a great place for friends and family to gather. I've eaten multiple things on the menu and everything has been mouthwateringly amazing.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Wonderful and surprising find in Butte. Great service and delicious food. Huckleberry martini is excellent!
google avatar

Renee T.

Yelp
Unique prix fix dining. The food is fabulous. The caprese salad is served in a footed dessert. Along with many inventive menu items. Lovely owner and staff, but I was disappointed to see the Governor mask mandate was not used by all servers and staff. One server had his below his nose much if the time and the owner, none at all. I know they can do better.

Kayce M.

Yelp
A wonderful atmosphere with delicious food! The pesto gnocchi was perfect! A great get together with family!
google avatar

Steen S.

Yelp
Excellent food! Butte is still developing their culinary rep. This place is leading the charge. Appetizers are very large! Meatballs were divine. Don't forget to grab some chocolate and lemon cake right next door.

Yelp
After a long day of driving a very long round trip we read the reviews of La Casa Toscana. Since I am a foodie and LOVE Great Italian food we zeroed in on La Casa Toscana. Boy were we disappointed. It was NOTHING like the reviews lead us to believe. It was 8:10 PM when we called ahead and thought we would put in a "To Go Order" . We were nicely informed that they did no "To Go" orders after 6:00 PM. So we asked if their was a waiting list for a table, (being a Friday night of Labor Day Weekend). We were told no waiting at that time. So we punched in the address and arrived 15 minutes later at 8:30 PM, entered to find no one at any table and a few people at the bar. The 2 waitresses were working at the cash register and totally ignored us for six minutes after we entered. Then one looked over at us and told us the kitchen was closing as it was near closing time and they always start shutting things down about this time. Closing time was listed 30 minutes from when we entered the restaurant and 45 minutes from when we first called. The gal could not get rid of us fast enough! So we walked out and as we got into our vehicle we saw the waitress hurrying across in front of us to a choice parking spot where she hopped into the drivers seat and sped off. It was 20 minutes before published closing time. We went on down the road to our RV where I made us a chip and dip snack at 10 PM. At least we were close to our bed. So much for trying the local restaurants.

Laurie M.

Yelp
the food was superb! We celebrated my son's birthday with his girlfriend and her family. The service was impeccable. It is a wonderful atmosphere for enjoying a delicious meal with family!
google avatar

SK R.

Yelp
Five stars for the staff alone. Our server, Ana (sp?) was a damn delight. And she wasn't even mildly annoyed with my litany of vegetarian questions. The pasta was delicious. Get the white sauce on something - anything.

Kevin M.

Yelp
For my wife's birthday she wanted Italian food. We are not typically fine dining people, usually only on special occasions such as Birthday's, Anniversaries etc. But through all our years of marriage we have dined at many truly fine establishments all over the US and even in Europe.. We had previously tried Lucca's in Helena, but my wife wanted someplace different, but special. So, I started searching surrounding cities. I found La Casa Toscana in Butte. It had very good reviews and from our home is about a 90 minute drive. We were not disappointed. This was perhaps the finest full dining experience we have had in 46+ years of marriage. The ambiance and decor were both warm and inviting, The staff was so professional and courteous. Our server was Shera K. She was so pleasant and explained everything thoroughly. It was obvious she took pride in her work. The food was exquisite. We both had the 4 course meals. My wife had Lasagna and I had Lobster Ravioli. Both were fantastic. Good size portions, very professional presentations. Both Sonia (the owner) and Chef Tom stopped by our table to inquire of our satisfaction and to chat. We were very impressed with the overall experience and highly recommend La Casa Toscana to anyone wishing for a fine Italian dining experience. It is worth your time and effort to get there, and you will not be disappointed. There is no doubt we will be dining here again.

Yelp
Food is excellent. We had meat lasagne and tagliatelle with mushroom ragu for entrees. Everything was delicious. Definitely best Italian in Butte, and can compete with any Italian restaurant I've been to in NY. The restaurant is beautifully decorated -- very pretty, warm and comfortable. The hostess/owner/chef is lovely. They do a price fixed 4-course meal with an appetizer board, salad, entree and dessert ($39 or 49, depending on entree). You can skip the app and dessert and it's $22 or 25, I think. They offer 3 entree choices/night and change them up. There's a nice wine list. The bar area in the front offers tapas/small plates -- haven't tried it yet, but all looked good. A little expensive, but we will definitely be back. Feels like a special occasion place. So nice to have a non-steak option. Welcome to Butte!!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Everything was amazing. We loved the entire four course dinner. I had the Caesar and Sacchettini Truffle Mushroom pasta. Both were delicious. All five of us loved our meals.
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
Please. Taste your lasagna. The Bolognese was very good on top of the dish. The lasagne was mush. There was no meat in it, no layers no texture. It seemed the noodles were so overdone you couldn't distinguish them from the ricotta and the cheese on top was without color. It made for an uncomfortable mouthful. I gave 2 stars because my daughter had the chicken dish which she said was tender and flavorful

Alejandro V.

Yelp
Very nice staff. Had an early dinner, 4pm. Didn't have reservations but sat at the bar. Had the special: lobster & shrimp Mac n cheese - Delicious! Nice place

Myles L.

Yelp
Had high expectations based on motel clerk's recommendation. It was disappointing. The potato knocci was mushi and had no flavor. Service was excellent, but food was not. $72 for two people who downgraded to the two course meal.

Peter C.

Yelp
This place is fabulous. The owner is very engaged in the business and you can tell by the quality of food and service. We even got an opportunity to speak with her. Her level of training and skill is great and it shows in her business. Would highly recommend this place.!
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
Came here with my girlfriends during my trip to Butte, absolutely amazing... so good we've eaten here twice in one week. Between the lasagna and the steak spezzatino I can't decide which was my favorite. The ambiance and the friendly staff was just the cherry on top. Great prices for even greater food. Will be back.
google avatar

Brad K.

Yelp
In a once flourishing mining town . There remains several great eateries. Do not miss this one. Excellent fare , excellent service. And don't let the prix fixe ,staff explained menu scare you. We were very pleased with the value. This is a gem. Do not miss it ! Brad n Jenny K.

Sharon S.

Yelp
Excellent food as well as service! A rare thing these days! went there two days in a row when we were in Butte for a week. Looking forward when I return to Butte to go back again!

Nicole B.

Yelp
This is the best Italian restaurant you can find in the area. So good, worth the price, great selection and atmosphere. Highly recommend and MAKE A RESERVATION or you may not get in.
google avatar

Ezra F.

Yelp
I'll give it a 2 grilled asparagus with no grill Mark's on them chicken piccata with no sauce or capers then served with egg noodles as a pasta side wow ok moving forward told the female owner about the asparagus and chicken piccata shrimp said everyone has there own opinion and mine didn't matter absolutely a joke wouldn't recommend this to anyone
google avatar

Colleen A.

Yelp
We were traveling through town and stopped for dinner here after checking it out on Yelp. What a pleasant surprise! Excellent service and excellent food. My husband had the lobster raviolis topped with large shrimp. I ordered their lasagna. From the appetizer to the dessert everything was well prepared. It is a little pricey and you have to ask for the prices. They aren't listed. We recommend this gem

I F.

Yelp
I had a few things that were unpleasant. I have previously given this place high ratings. We went last night after a couple years and there was a definite change. I asked for Chardonnay, they were out of it. I then decided to try one of the specialty drinks, the waitress said "unfortunately we are out of...." This was early in the evening, like 6-630pm, so they started the evening like this. I raved about the lobster ravioli, on my last visit, but not any more. Definitely did not taste like the freshest option. I love lobster but this tasted a bit "fishy". My husband ordered the chicken Marsala and it was pretty good but not the best I've had before. I also realized too late, that I believe I was over charged for the chicken, as on my bill it was higher than the ravioli and the menu indicated otherwise. We both ordered the 4 courses. The portions were much smaller and I get it, with inflation and all but MUCH smaller. Will not be back.

Ian B.

Yelp
This is the best (and only) authentic Italian restaurant in Butte. If you are stopping by Butte for a couple of days, this is THE restaurant to go to. The food speaks for itself. The owner is very kind, and a perfect hostess. I learned from her that it is an all-women-runned restaurant, which I love! It is a little pricy (about sixty dollars per person) but it is worth it. You can taste the quality and work they put into the food. VERY HIGHLY recommended!
