12 Best Outdoor Bars and Restaurants in Charlotte | Eater Carolinas

"This family-owned taco stand in Camp North End is a hidden gem in Charlotte. The outside space at La Caseta knows no bounds; it spreads the 76 acres of Camp North End. Order the pupusas, arepas, and an orange Jarritos drink to go, and take them to the firepits, the tables near the giant jenga, or on Wednesday evenings, on a stroll through the weekly farmers market. The soft disks of corn tortillas stuffed with the holy trinity — pork, cheese, and beans — are best doused with lime, like most things on La Caseta’s limited menu." - Kayleigh Ruller

Google
I ordered two empanadas and a taco asada. These were SO GOOD that I will definitely be going back to try EVERYTHING on the menu. Big love to the ladies in the kitchen for their excellent food!

Google
Had 2 empanadas and was not impressed. That was not steak, more like roast beef. It also didn’t have any egg, onions, or peppers either. Very small portions. Service was good but I won’t eat here again.

Authentic tasting tacos found here at Camp North End. The food is a bit pricey, but you are getting some high quality food here. I wanted something small, and I got two al pastor tacos. They were smokey, sweet and savory. I wish had ordered more after I finished the two, but I was in a bit of a rush. There are plenty of benches and seats around the area for you to enjoy the food. You can also walk around the park and find some nice art to see too.

Google
Very nice people. Food was made to order. I got both pupusas. There was so much beans in both. You couldn’t tasted the pork and there was barely any cheese. The beans seep out and leave the pupusa barely filled. Marina was bland. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Anna-Marie with Offline - We wanted the empanadas but they were out of them. My husband ordered both tacos on rhe menu, they are small but really good. He really loved the warmed salsa as well.

Google
first time coming and it was pretty good! i’ve had papusa’s before and these are a little on the small side portion wise. we also got the arepa which was my favorite. good food but didn’t blow me away. i would come again to try their tacos!

Google
BEST Spanish/Latin food I’ve had in years. Everything was so fresh and reasonably priced. Taco Asada, Pupusa Revueltas and Arepa Rumbera. I’ll definitely be back to try their cute little sweet treats.

Yelp
Quick service and the best steak tacos I've had in Charlotte so far! Located near the entrance of Camp North End, it's right there as you walk up. I will be returning.

Yelp
Our arepas (we got one of each!) were soooooooo good! It's a MUST stop! Not a lot of seating (tables) around but that's kinda the vibe of Camp North End anyway it seems. Free parking tho so that's nice!

Yelp
Carne Empanada: 3/5 - Flavors were decent, but texture felt pretty mushy inside. The shell wasn't particularly flavorful and also could've been more crispy. Carne Asada Taco: 2/5 - Meat was ok but the taco shell was very disappointing (felt like it might've been steamed/microwaved instead of fried/pan seared). RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Definitely getting this again) 4 - Good (Would get it again) 3 - Ok (Might give it another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

Yelp
Came here after a run and was a bit underwhelmed with the food. I did like the portion and the price but the taste was bland for me. I got the asada tacos and I expected more flavor from it but I didn't get it. The meat was juicy and tender and I appreciated that. I may come back and try another dish. Not sure. The service was chill and casual. I loved the outdoor seatings

Yelp
Amazing authentic pupusas!!! Fresh and well made. Nice friendly and quick service. I would recommend checking this joint out.

Yelp
Customer service terrible. Staff rude. 2 tacos and water, 15. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Yelp
Always tasty and the salsa with the tacos is perfectly balanced of flavor and spice have eaten here with many different friends and have never heard a complaint, consistenly great

Yelp
Love this place! Pupusas are the best!! Easy to order online if or person! Highly recommend!

Yelp
One Saturday, I closed my kitchen, lol, to partake in some yummy tacos and got a savory introduction to pupusas. I visited the location at Camp North End. Since this restaurant is an outside food stall, the best time to go is when it's sunny and bright. You definitely don't want to get caught in the rain. What I tried: TACOS: The tacos have a traditional authentic taste and are big on flavor. Plus, you get a nice amount of meat for the price. AL PASTOR ($4.49)- Handmade Corn Tortillas with Adobo Pork, Onions, And Pineapple. Topped With Cilantro, Onion, Avocado Salsa ASADA ($4.95) - Handmade Corn Tortillas with Grilled Flap Meat. Topped with Avocado Salsa. Onion, Cilantro, Chimol (Roasted Veggie Salsa) PUPUSA: This was my first time eating a pupusa and it was what I call, the Oscar award winner. I loved the thickness of the corn tortilla and the combination of the ingredients in the filling was dynamic. I consider this item to be MANDATORY at all future visits. REVUELTAS ($3.95) - Handmade thick corn tortillas stuffed with Ground Pork, Cheese, and Refried Beans. Topped with Curtido Slaw and warm tomato sauce.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday afternoon around 2:15pm and it was excellent. I love how they had food items separated by country. We had tacos from Mexico, pupusas from El Salvador, arepas from Venezuela, and empanadas from Argentina. The service was pretty quick. It wasn't too busy at Camp North End, so there was plenty of open seating. The Al pastor taco very tasty. I enjoyed that way more than the asada taco. The revueltas pupusa was so good! It was my first time trying pupusas and I have a new favorite. I didn't realized they were stuffed with meat. The rumberas arepa was so good. It's a lot of meat within it so it will definitely fill you up. Lastly we did try the empanadas and they were very thick. My first bite was all dough but it's stuffed with meat so you will get your money's worth. Highly recommend this spot. The prices were also really reasonable.

Yelp
The Carne Empanada was one of the best empanadas I've had in Charlotte. It was filled with meat which is rare as I've found for an empanada. The tacos were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend trying both the Al Pastor & Asada Taco. The Reina Pepiada Arepas is stuffed with shredded chicken salad (avocado, sweet peas, mayo, spices) - yum! The Rumberas Arepas is stuffed with shredded pork and cheddar cheese.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in Charlotte, I visit Camp Northend. I was hoping to get some vegan food, but being that it was a Tuesday, my place of choice was not open. So I went with La Caseta and it didn't disappoint. The menu is limited, which is understandable for a location like this. They need to be fast pace and knowing what they are providing makes it easier on them. However, I do wish they had a little more to offer. Or at least maybe a specialty item once or twice a week. The food is delicious. This is my second time eating here. I went with the Argentinian empanadas and the Venezuelan arepas. The empanadas are stuffed and very meaty. I'm always impressed with the amount of steak and veggies that they provided. Handheld, but I wouldn't advise eating it while you drive. You may make a mess. The arepas we're also heavily stuffed with shredded chicken salad and a mix of other things. So good it was hard to put it down. You must try for yourself.

Yelp
Whoo hoo I found yet another spot that I will be visiting strictly for empanadas. Now I love me a good empanada.Best of all La Caseta is located in Camp north end food stalls so it's always some sort of entertainment of some sort going on there for the most part . We tried a variety of the food items from the tacos , empanadas, & chicken arepas . The chicken arepa also won me over big time .The dipping sauces adds a little extra spice to any and everything on their menu . You can't come here and not order a Jarritos to wash it all down with . When you go do it for the culture ! I'll definitely be sure to peep my head in here every time I'm in the area .

Yelp
Empanadas were a winner! This was first time checking out Camp North End and I wasn't left disappointed. Even with a long line service was very efficient. I didn't have wait long for my order. My empanada was flavorful and hands down delicious! I wish I would have gotten a second one - it was right at closing when I ordered. I'll definitely be back... and will be sure to order three empanadas.

Yelp
My wife and went here as we wanted a bit to eat while walking around Camp North End. The food was good yet a bit overpriced for what you got.  Since multiple food options are next to it, you have to lock down a seat early and have some else order the food. Otherwise, you l'll have to stand/walk and eat.

Yelp
Finally made it to Camp North End to see Van Gogh. Afterwards we walked over to the cute food stalls to get lunch. After looking at the choices I wanted tacos. La Caseta is authentic and make their own shells. I started with two Al pastor tacos and had to go back for a third. The tacos were delicious and the pork was extremely flavorful. The service was quick! The tacos come individually without a side. There is outdoor seating all around the food stalls, so you can enjoy some fresh air.

Yelp
I was searching for a lunch option and I have been loathe to try any Mexican food especially tacos after moving from San Diego, where I lived closer to Tijuana than work. But my husband had a tiny box of food from another vendor, and I was starving. So I tried a carne asada taco here (and an arepa Reina Pepiada) Corn tortilla was a bit thicker than I'm used to but it was tasty and I dug the sauces they included (one hot red, one cold green). I also appreciate that they were generous with my cilantro and cebolla. The arepa was pretty good too- certainly a more filling option for the $. I devoured both- and gave the last two bites of my arepa with my partner who was staring enviously at my meal (and spent more on his to boot). If we come back to camp north end, wouldn't mind a repeat stop here- might even get 2-3 asada tacos next time.
google avatar

Enrique C.

Yelp
I had their tacos Al pastor and tried their arepa for the first time. They recommended me the Reina Arepa. Since I've never heard or had that before. It was very good but by far my favorite is the tacos. Very delicious! Usually I don't really eat tacos but I would definitely get their tacos. Full of meat and a good size imo! Friendly service and got my food pretty quick. Would recommend!

Yelp
La Caseta at Camp North End is the go-to spot for all your Latinx food cravings! It's a rare occasion I see both tacos and pupusas on the same menu! My first time trying Venezuelan Arepas, I loved the simplicity of the shredded pork and cheese stuffed into the thick, fresh-made Arepa. A few drops of Valentina hot sauce and this Venezuelan delight made my day! I appreciate how La Caseta unites the different flavors of Latin street food! I'll return to try their tacos Al Pastor which look 100% authentic! Seeing the meat prepared with pineapple on a stand-up Rotisserie was refreshing. I can't tell you how many times I've ordered tacos Al Pastor (east coast) and when I see them, they aren't even the right color! La Caseta is doing it right, especially as they top them with salsa verde so you can get straight to munching!
google avatar

Kristy A.

Yelp
They keep it simple here with a roughly 10 item menu. Tacos are made fresh. Two are sufficient to cure hunger. They take about 5-7 minutes to prepare food. When you order dine in, they put the sauce on your taco, so be careful if you don't like sauce. The taco shells are soft and tasty. Meat is extremely flavorful. This is a great place for a quick bite at a reasonable price at Camp North Emd, and I'll probably return every time I'm in the area. P.S. No chips and salsa

Yelp
My gosh, this little food stall in Camp North End is fantastic! In a time where no one is traveling to any far off destinations, La Caseta manages to transport you to Central and South America... No passport needed! We loved their small and simple menu because it meant we could order one of everything! We had their 2 tacos, 2 pupusas, 2 arepas, and empanada, all for about $30. What a steal! Everything was delicious, but my favorites were the reyna pipian arepa and al pastor taco. The arepa shell was perfectly soft and crunchy all at the same time. Their homemade tortillas for the tacos are to die for! We visited on a gorgeous day, weather wise, and enjoyed sitting and feasting at the communal picnic tables nearby. After lunch, we had a lovely walk around the super cool Camp North End space.

Yelp
If you're looking for some authentic Latin cuisine in Charlotte! Make sure to check out La Caseta located in Camp North End. They offer specialty tacos, empanadas, pepida and so much more! This is a highly recommended food stall to visit while In Charlotte! Enjoy

Yelp
It took us a long time to finally check out the food stalls at Camp North End, but we finally made it. Since I wanted to try all of the food stalls, I just sampled a bit from each. We tried the Revueltas pupusa and the Al Pastor taco. We loved both. The flavors were great. I think I would probably get the toppings for the pupusa on the side because they made the pupusa soggy almost immediately. I think this stall is even better than Sabor (it has the same owners). So if you like Sabor you should definitely check it out.

Yelp
I'd been dying to check out Camp North End for a while so we came on a day I took off work. On a Monday. When basically every other business at CNE is closed. Not La Caseta! The Good: the food was super tasty and I particularly loved the taco. We got one Al Pastor to share and I wish I had also gotten a Carne Asada. As a Latina who grew up eating authentic, homemade tacos from Mexican relatives, these were great. The tacos are served "street style" which basically means, corn tortilla, meat, diced white onion, cilantro, and a lime wedge. This one came with a tasty salsa on top that wasn't spicy at all. Very nice flavor and the tortillas tasted just like the ones we would hand make in Mexico when I was little. The guy behind the counter was really nice and helpful in making other suggestions and we really loved the Pupusa de Frijoles and the Empanada as well! This was my partner's first time having real Latin food and he loved everything! The Meh: the tacos are the most expensive street tacos I've seen coming in around $4.50/1 taco Al Pastor. I believe the Asada one is a bit more. While they're tasty, I do feel it's slightly overpriced because street tacos aren't big (I can usually eat 3...4 if I have no self-respect that day). I used to bitch about the price of the Bakersfield tacos (at their location in Ohio) and these are a bit more than Bakersfield. Ingredients are quality but still feel it's a skosh steep. Also, the Pupusa was so good but seemed a bit flat with not as much filling as I'm used to. It's so good, I wanted more! The Bad: I'm a salsa FIEND and I didn't see a selection of salsas to get. I loved the green that came on the taco and the red with the empanada but an option to purchase extra of different types would be nice because I mix and match my salsas usually and I looooove a SPICY one. No doubt the food here is tasty and service very friendly. I love that they have 1-2 offerings from different countries in Latin America (Mexico, Argentina, El Salvador, and Venezuela). Even though they're one of the only vendors open on Mondays, I would absolutely come back any day of the week to try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Ordered the Empanada and the Al Pastor Taco at La Caseta to give them a try. We took the items home to eat. They held up well. We didn't reheat them and they tasted great, full of flavor. We enjoyed the taco over the empanada. The empanada has a nice chimichurri sauce on the side. I wasn't in love with the olives inside the empanada made it very salty. My mom loved the taco and wish we had gotten more. The Al Pastor was full of tender pork. The side of salsa complimented the pork nicely. Yelp
Love this little food stall in camp north end! They have a small menu but everything I tried was amazing. The prices were great too! All of the food was fresh and flavorful. You can just walk up and order your food and it is ready to pick up in minutes. I ordered the al pastor taco and the asada taco. They were both very flavorful and delicious. I loved the salsas that they came with as well. I also tried the pupusas, which were really good! My sister is vegetarian and the only thing on the menu that she could have was the frijole pupusa, which has beans in it instead of pork. She enjoyed it but wished she had more options. I loved that there was so much seating in the area as well. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Located in the North End Complex this is a hole in the wall gem! In all of North Carolina, this is the only place where I have seen them do tacos Al Pastor the way they are suppose to be done, on a stand up Rotisserie with layers of onions & pineapples. Their tacos are very traditional. The Argentinian Empanadas are also traditional with meat and olives.....yes, olives inside. The pastry is the proper format and consistency. Only outdoor seating available but that's ok. The ladies are very friendly and efficient. You want a Real Taco......this is the place!

Yelp
Really good, I love the outside environment and scenery here! Great place to go on a nice day with loved ones for some peace and great food

Yelp
[Grade: A-] Roaming around Charlotte, there's been a lot of new places on the come up in terms of where to come hangout, shop a little, and find great sceneries for photoshoots. One of the things that stood out to me while walking around Camp Northend on our way to La Caseta was the heated spaces, as it was super cold out but wow do these things work. We were recommended to this spot for their delicious arepas and authentic flavours, and for the most part I think they nailed it. For the food, we tried out their arepas, pupusas, and tacos. They were incredibly juicy and flavourful and the hot sauce they provide gives them an amazing kick that helped round out the flavours. I definitely recommend the arepa rumbera and the asada tacos! The arepas were so good we had to go back and an extra one! I guess my one, not really big issue, was the things were a bit expensive thinkin bout the portion size but it is what it is and I'd say it's still pretty worth at least to try out. Overall, I really could taste the authenticity of the food! Camp Northend is lucky to have this place bring a piece of the latin culture and community and share their splendid take on latin cuisine! Also thank goodness for the heated seating area wow.
google avatar

Janneth S.

Yelp
Honestly, they have the opportunity to bring in Spanish food to this location and they are not hitting the spot. The options are extremely limited. No good vegetarian options. I think they could add more to the menu and get more people in. The service.. well we didnt order anything since the location did not hit all of our dietary needs.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Seriously, SOOOOOO GOOD! Why did I wait so long to come experience this food? Handmade, delicious, delicious, did I mention delicious??? And great people behind the counter!!! No pictures, I was just too hungry from waiting with ALL THOSE SMELLS!!!
google avatar

Autumn S.

Yelp
The tacos were very good, a little pricey at over $4 but they were worth the price. The empanada was also very good. They are in a cut location in camp end so there are cute places to sit and eat. If I'm craving an authentic street taco I would definitely visit again. I just wish they had better beverage choices.
google avatar

Demetria M.

Yelp
There is always something going on at camp north end. I recently strolled through on a sunny weekend and popped by to try a few of the new stalls that weren't there the last time I visited. I ordered the pupusa de frijoles(corn tortillas stuffed with cheese and beans) and the warm tomato sauce served with it was really good. The portion was perfect and as busy as they were, it was still a short wait. The area has benches set up so you can eat there or take it with you.
google avatar

Doris R.

Yelp
This is awesome! I love the idea of having different Latin American food choices in one place. La Caseta represents Mexico, El Salvador, Venezuela and Argentina with their representative plates from tacos to Pupusas all I one place. I must say, though the idea is great the Argentinian Empanadas were not. The flavor was a little less than average. I tried a plate from each Country, so if you stop by I would recommend the Al Pastor Tacos, Pupusas revueltas or the Reyna Pipián Arepa.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
Everything is delicious. We had both kinds of arepa and the empanada and will go back 100%. If you're in the area be sure to check this place out!

Yelp
I too have become a La Caseta believer! La Caseta is part of the outdoor food court/ food stands at Camp North End. I had a nice relaxing lunch here with my friends and was able to try almost everything on the menu. The aromas drifting from the grill were amazing - and when they slapped down a freshly marinated skirt steak on the grill, that sizzle said it all. Tacos: Al Pastor and Asada = both very good but the Asada is the winner - the grilled veggie salsa on top nails it. Papusas: Revueltas (cheese, beans, ground pork belly) vs Frijoles = again both damn good but Frijoles is the winner - simple, filling, delicious comfort food. The Argentinian Style filling in the empanadas gets an honorable mention - just wish there was more of it in them!! I'm with Tonya - "Pupusas" needs to be a thing. Totally legit place to get an affordable and killer Latin American Treat!!!
google avatar

Mary E.

Yelp
La Caseta is a cool Latin inspired food stall in Camp North End. The flavors are really fresh and not too spicy. You can fill up on a lot of food for a good price. You order at a counter and pick up your food through a pick-up window. The Empanada and Pupusa were my favorites, no doubt. Good fresh veggies and really juicy flavorful meats. Fun if you're looking for something easy and casual.

Yelp
In this new reality we are living in, it's nice to see places still opening up and adapting (as if opening a restaurant wasn't hard enough!). La Caseta holds the corner down in their section of Camp North End. The staff are super friendly and the food seems to come out really quickly. I was surprised at the speed only because it's really hard to develop all that flavor in a small amount of time. :) You can't go wrong with a taco here. Between the Al Pastor and the Asada tacos, I think I would re-eat both! But maybe the edge goes to the asada taco. I was most excited about the papusas - man were they tasty. I know they are supposed to be super "bad" for you, but indulging in one of these every once in a while is a must. Overall the visit I had to La Caseta won't be my last one. I know Camp North End is still developing, but it's turning out to be a cool spot. Veteran tip: if the tables in front of the food stalls are full, check around the corner since there are some seating areas made out of repurposed industrial materials. At first glance, they look like old warehouse pallet movers, but they are super comfy.
google avatar

Vicki S.

Yelp
Very good! Reminded me a little of the street vendors when I was in Tulum Mexico. Located in the Camp North End across the street of Graham Street Station , it's a great location to be in as camp north end continues to grow and develop We got their towards the end of the night so they only had tqcos but they were still very good. They offer tacos, pupusas, empenadas, and arepas. The menu is straightforward and I really appreciate that- also helps with taking orders efficiently Arepas-$6 Empenadas-$4 (carne) Tacos-$4 ( al pastor, asada) Pupusas-$3 ( revueltas , frijoles)
google avatar

Ishita K.

Yelp
We tried the chicken arepa and it was so fresh and finger licking good. The house made sause is bomb! The mexican hot chocolate was good too( specially on a cold day). I just wish they had more chicken options- a taco and an empanada:) No picture- since we couldn't resist tasting nor stop after a bite:)

Yelp
Fabulous food and awesome service! We loved our meal-- both of us had the pork arepa, juicy pork and cheese in a handmade dough. Heavenly!! It's a good portion but I was hungry so I needed a second taco to fill up. They're such friendly staff and they also have a good beer selection.
google avatar

Sammie K.

Yelp
The quality, the flavour, everything! Soooo good. I especially loved how their salsa was hot! That over the tacos was next level. So so so good.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Don't sleep on the pupusas! I ordered one taco, one arepa, and the pupusa and it was by far my favorite of the 3, despite being vegetarian with refried beans as the protein. Outdoor ordering and outdoor seating made for an ideal meal during covid as well.
google avatar

Daniel V.

Yelp
La Caseta has a small, unique menu of different Latin American food. We ordered each of the pupusas, tacos, and arepas. Our favorites for each were the revueltas pupusa, the Reyna Pipián arepa, and the carne asada taco. However, the Reyna Pipián arepa was hands down the best.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
This place was soooo delicious! I ordered the Pupusas Revueltas, which are a Salvadoran dish of handmade thick corn tortillas stuffed with ground pork, cheese, and refried beans. I am super picky about my Pupusas having eaten them all of my life but these were delicious. They were thick, juicy, and perfectly cheesy. They don't have too many things to pick from but everything they had was delicious! Highly recommend stopping by, eating, and then continue to explore the other little shops!

Yelp
I could really sum this review up in one sentence: Get the Avocado Salsa! But, that's not how reviews work so here goes. La Caseta has been on my radar for quite some time so imagine my delight when I got to try not only a newcomer to Charlotte's food scene, but a new condiment that I'd never heard of & am so glad to know now--avocado salsa. Google tells me that there are several ways to do this but, in my book, La Caseta does it exceedingly well. Lovely shade of green, flawlessly smooth, and the perfect combination of rich & tart. It was intended for my carne asada taco--which had meat so tender that it really needed no sauce--but I tried to put that salsa on everything, lol. The al pastor tacos, while not as sweet as I'm accustomed to, also held their own. With a smoky, flavorful pineapple salsa and--you guessed it, several generous dollops of my avocado salsa--they rounded out my meal perfectly. We frequently hear the term "cooking with love" and La Caseta's offerings seem to embody just that. These tacos should definitely not be limited to Tuesday--already looking forward to my next trip!

Yelp
I am not the biggest fan of Mexican food but oh my goodness, this little spot in Camp North End was so good! We've tried just about everything on the menu. Al Pastor Taco - not my favorite as the meat was dry and I couldn't taste/see the pineapple Revueltas Pupusas - DELICIOUS! I could eat spoonfuls of that tomato sauce and slaw - so good! Rumberas Arepa - a bit too heavy for me since this is a mix of meat and melted Gouda cheese - not an easy food to eat as well since it can get very messy, but still pretty good! Reyna Arepa - a healthier arepa choice since it was filled with chicken salad - I asked for the salsa verde to be added on the side as it gives it a nice kick and adds some flavor
