Went yesterday. Service and atmosphere is great. Unfortunately the menu is in Spanish so I wasn't able to understand everything so had to have help with the nicest man at the counter explaining to me what some of the stuff was. I ended up with a sandwich looking thing. I think they call it a torta. I forget but it was yummy. I don't really remember what my mom got but the picture speak for it's selves because they're delicious. Everything was great and the buggies were cool. Oh and by the way this sandwich looking thing literally half of it was as big as my face so they're definitely was leftovers for me to eat later for dinner.

My coworker and I found this on a fluke lunch outing We saw the tortas and knew this was gonna be good The staff were awesome The tortas were bomb, the horchatta hit the spot, the salsa actually had good flavor, heat, and wasn't Hella watery. It went great with their chips. We've been about 5 times in the past month and haven't regretted it once.

First time here, the food it's delicious.

So far every torta that I have tried is very good and the alambres (my favorite is el trio) with hand made tortillas... delicious!! El agua de horchata and the sangria preparada are also very good.

Was a little disappointed given the high ratings. The machete i ordered was salty, and overall just lacked the bold flavors i associate with cuisine from mexico city.

Best Mexican food you will find In The Bay Area. Most authentic place you’ll ever eat at. Staff was super friendly. I recommend you order el arabe. It tastes like a piece of heaven. I almost cried after one bite and I haven’t been able to cry for a year now. This place is an hour from our home and I Can’t wait to be back!

Wanted to check out a new spot in the area so we decided to eat here. I've never been to a torteria before and had to step out of my comfort zone as there aren't burritos on the menu like that a non-Chicano might fall back on. The atmosphere seemed kind of like a diner, playing what seems to be Spanish rock music in the background with a heavy emphasis on Volkswagens buggies as there is a wall of photos of them and the front half of one by the entrance as a little photo op. Unfortunately, there were no English menus at the moment, and it was a bit daunting since there were so many different options of tortas, but the customer service made up for it as the staff was more than happy to help explain the difference between this place and an ordinary taqueria. We ended up getting a couple tortas, a gordita, and machete after asking the folks to cook up what they think is a good spread for a couple first timers. The tortas all came nice and toasted with aesthetic grill marks to add a bit of crisp and toasty flavor. At first, the bread seemed rather thick for my liking, and I was afraid it would be dry, however it did a great job absorbing whatever amazing sauce they slathered on it. The meats we had layered inside each respective torta was chicken, steak, and a unique potato/sausage patty. The chicken and steak were cooked perfectly with a smoky charred flavor and the marinade really came through. The sausage patty was initially odd for my liking but had a satisfying texture. Each torta was a little heavy but was balanced out with the nice crunch and acidity from the pickled vegetables. Overall, a great combination of flavor, textures, and temperatures. As mentioned earlier, the staff also fixed up my first ever gordita and machete. We initially asked if they had any quesadillas and he informed us that the machete was the closest thing they had to it. I was surprised to see a large blade shaped corn tortilla with large slices of juicy steak and crumbled cheese. This composition was similar to the gordita, except that came with finely chopped meat and onions/cilantro inside. I was most impressed with the corn tortillas as I've never had anything like it. They were about roughly 1/3 cm thick and crispy with a slight eggy flavor which was unlike any other I've had before. I'll be sure to come back to try the other dishes they have to offer. 👍

If you're craving real Mexican flavor, La Casita Chilanga in Hayward is absolutely worth the visit! From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth and smell the freshness of homemade food. The portions are generous, the flavors are authentic, and everything tastes like it was made with love. I ordered the torta Chilanga], and it was incredible, juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The salsas have the perfect kick, and you can tell they take pride in every detail. The staff was friendly, quick, and attentive, and the vibe is cozy and colorful; it feels like a little piece of Mexico right here in Hayward. You can tell this place is run with passion and heart. If you like Mexican tortas as big as your face, you have to try this place! The sandwiches are fully stuffed and packed with flavor. I have tried their tacos, but I think their tortas are their specialty. Their Tacos are just OK The restaurant is clean, and the servers are friendly. Facilities are also well-maintained, which is always a plus. For reference, two tortas came out to about $45 -- and honestly, they're huge enough to share!

La Casita Chilanga is close to home. Today, I decided to to catch an early lunch. I ordered a Pambazo torta with black beans and rice to go. Vanessa took my order. She was very patient with me, answered my questions. She told me that the Pambazo would be ready in 10 minutes. It was as promised. The green sauce had a very pleasant Zip to lit, not overpowering, with a delightful fresh flavor. Clear skill in its construction. Thoroughly delightful sandwich. Healthy portion. I will be back and sample each of the 17 different tortas. I will enjoy this. Not at all like anything else so far in Hayward. Really well done. The Pambazo was well packaged to go home. There is sufficient seating for eight or so diners at a time. The restrooms are clean. I will be back to complete my exploration. Vanessa was a terrific guide.

Fast & casual Mexican place with giant tortas. Highly recommend trying the suadero here. The tacos are also great. The red salsa served with the chips are very addictive & a bit spicy. I like that they have pineapples on their pastor. The staff are all very friendly & their horchata is HUGE.

Lots of amazing selections but we went conservative because of dietary restrictions. Delicious tacos with homemade corn tortillas. Lots and lots of chicken--the pollo asado moist and not at all greasy. Tostadas also delicious. Very friendly staff and customers. A happy place. Next time we'll get a machete and a torta for sure!

Showed up to this place around 10 maybe 11, it's been a while since I had a torta. Decided to go here, I had way way in the past been to their other locations. I ordered the torta harana , it was huge and wonderful. Milanesa(breaded steak, egg, avocado and such)I enjoyed every single ingredient it came with. Staff was attentive, but the place looks more like a to go central. People kept coming in for pick ups, but no one was sitting. I did notice one thing: they were not playing music. For a place that claims cdmx in their name i would perhaps imagine sonidero cumbia in the background. Great tortas, but 4.7/5 I would have sat to eat there had the place had music.

server was nice, but the food was not good. there was 5 of us, all hungry and all ordered different torta's. each of us could barely finish half , it wasn't good. I read the reviews and thought it was going to be good, but it wasn't ,maybe they had an off day , but , pretty bad. it was pretty expensive too and the menu didn't have any English to read. just my honest opinion. I guess everyone else has different taste.

The food is amazing here, so many options as well. Service is amazing, I like that the workers recommended you there favorite items. The restaurant is put together very nicely and have heaters inside just incase it gets chilly.

First time here and we loved it. Always appreciate the free chips and salsa to get started, it was pretty spicy but I think it was just that batch, we asked for more and that wasn't as spicy but still spicy! So beware if you don't love too much spice. Huarache was super tasty and came with some black beans on the side plus the refried beans on the huarache. Would totally come back! Service was nice and quick. Everything was nicely decorated and very clean. Love the high windows so there's a lot of light coming in and can people watch if you like that. Personally, we liked the cumbias playing. Spacious bathroom.

This place is so good I'm giving it 5 stars on the way the guy took my phone order. I was thinking by looking at their menu that it might be difficult to order food over the phone. Feels like the menus is geared more toward their Spanish speaking clientele. To my surprise I was able to order from a very smart and articulate bilingual person. I've owned my own businesses for over 40 years, and that saying holds true especially in retail, and that is , "you never get a second chance to make a first impression ". This is actually their 50th impression on me, but never over the phone. First time. I wasn't that surprised that they would have such an all star running the front desk, but more surprised because the landscape out there right now really hit and miss and depending if mars is in retrograde then it's usually a lot more miss then hits.

Delicious Tortas with various types to choose from. It's like the Mexican sandwich spot of the Bay Area. 2 places in Redwood City, 1 in San Jose and then this one in Hayward. The most expensive torta is gonna be $20, prices have gone up since the last time I came, I'm guessing because of the ingredients they use, but I haven't found any place quite like this. You will not be disappointed with the size of these tortas - so large I have to share with my hubby or else I'll be in a food coma. Super cool vibe if you go and sit down. The place reminds me of an old auto shop they converted into a restaurant. There is even a VW buggy inside! Plenty of pictures on the walls, feels very family oriented.

I am not sorry for this review and having no photo to prove just how deliciously made the food is here! I placed a to-go order over the phone and when I arrived I asked for their Agua Fresca - Horchata. Once I got back in my car and took that first sip, I knew the food was gonna be just as bomb! I am very picky about Horchatas as some places make it too watery but this one hit the spot every sip!!!! I ordered 2 super gorditas and 2 tacos de asada. The flavors are very authentic, fresh and well combined. It came with a small cup of hot sauce which wasn't overly spicy but very good. When you walk in, there's a very chill and subtle Chicano vibes - even have a very photogenic spot to take a pic. I am thoroughly pleased with the food, service and place. So glad I found them because now they truly got me as a customer!!

I literally have lived five minutes away from this place for over five years and I can't believe this is my first time coming here. I ordered a torta and wowwww just woww. So goooood. I will be back to try the menudo and chilaquiles for sure.

If you're in the mood for a HUGE, filling, delicious torta, La Casita Chilanga is the spot! The fillings are piled high with so much flavor, and bread is toasty and soft on the inside. My bf and I each got a torta but they are easily shareable. I've been craving a good torta Cubana and I've been severely disappointed with some other places I've tried. I went for the Cubana and OMG...every bite was as satisfying as the last. and I devoured half (the small half), because I also got a Gordita... another hitter! The shell was crispy, the filling was hot, cheese was melty. Hella good! I was expecting a small gordita... nope! Big portions! The ladies were very nice. We actually walked up to the counter to order, but they gave us menus and told us they would come by and take our order since we were eating there. We were given chips and green salsa. Later they offered us an orange one. Both were good. The green was actually the spicier one of the two. Nice kick. The only "complaint" is that we were given a bowl of broken chips. The second bowl of chips was better. They wrapped up our tortas when we asked to take it to go. The place was pretty full. I think maybe only a table or two were available. (It was about 7pm on a Sunday). The place isn't a huge space either tho. It's worth mentioning that most tables had bowls of barbacoa, It has me interested in trying it the next time. I'm definitely coming back!

La Casita Chilanga finally opens in the vacated Southern Flavors' space. Interior similar with a new ambience. Speciality is Mexico City street food. May have tried their taco truck on the peninsula. Upon entering, was greeted & seated. Associate helped in ordering since vocabulary weren't the usual. Offerings (menu in Spanish): tortas, burritos, tacos, machetes, alambres, garnachas, gorditas, pambazo, Bebichas (drinks)... Eats: machetes-El Ricky M (De Suaperro Y Queso Jaldra 16.95) suadero (brisket meat) & cream cheese. -machete is a long corn tortillia that looks like a quesadilla. Small pieces of suaperro with lots of cream cheese within. ate it a bite at a time, using a knife to cut. *meat tender, not juicy nor flavorful -comped thick fried tortilla tasted authentic, commercially made. Salsa & red salsa was addictive, hot -small salad tasted fresh with lettuce. Tomato, avocado. Drink: Tepache (pineapple L. 4.50) aqua feesca -tasted earthy, little if any sugar added. -hearsay this drink very popular in Mexico City. -sampled temporada (tamarindo) & jamaica, slightly sugary & earthy. Pass on Horchata cuz too sweet. 4.5 stars good value. Doubt it would have traveled well. Food isn't fancy, basically street food. Tables mostly filled with Mexican Americans when i left. Hispanic Heritage Month: 9/15-10/15.

This place has so much potential. I will definitely try them again. The torta that I ordered was the Cubana which consists of different meats like breaded steak, salchichas, and ham, and it has a chipotle sauce with refried beans and jalapeños. I have tried their San Jose and Redwood City locations but this time it was a bit of a miss for me. I will go back on a different day and try another menu item. The service was good and the ambiance was spot on. Loved the decor and music.

Great customer service and food tastes amazing. The closest thing to a real torta and other foods from Mexico City in this area. I come here all the time with my family.

Me and hubby went not long ago because I was craving a torta! The tortas were SO good! The flavor was there, the tortas were huge, and the service was great. Oh, and lastly, their Jamaica was delicious too; considering that I'm pretty picky with my Jamaica, this one was delightful! We are definitely going back.

I always come here pretty late during the week, so there's no wait. I really love the food here, but I'm not giving 5 stars because I was pretty disappointed with my last order. I ordered the machete with carne asada. The way our server described it sounded great with a side of fresh avocado, tomato, and lettuce to accompany my machete. I got my plate and was underwhelmed with the "sides." One slice of tomato, one slice of avocado, and a handful of lettuce. The machete is BIG and packed with plenty of carne asada. The sides were not enough to even cover one side of the machete. The machete tasted fine, but it was a little plain. I feel like there's something missing. Next time I come here, I'll stick to their tortas. They are amazing! The first time I came here, I ordered it with half chicken and half carne asada. It was perfection. When it comes to good torta, it's all in the bread. It has to hold all the meat and condiments without falling apart. Oh, man. They do their tortas the RIGHT way. Not once did mine fall apart. It held ALL THE WAY to the last bite. I'm definitely going to keep coming here because they do their meats, bread, and tortillas the right way. I'll just skip the machete.

I gave this location a try. We usually go to the redwood city location. We ordered Tortas. I was very disappointed. They were skimpy on all the ingredients. The milanesa was very thin at one point i checked to see if it was really milanesa. Flavor was not there. It was mostly bread . Honestly I felt the cook was just lazy making the torta. I added 3 stars for the decor

Their pambazos are so amazing I couldn't stop to take a picture. It is crisp while soft and chewy on the inside and full of flavor, I got the tinga pambazo. Service was fast and ordering is easy, it was a little busy but plenty seats for customers. I saw they have a Michelin star? Idk but this place is good and good prices.

Never disappointed when I come here! We ordered El Suaperro (torta de suadero), La Cubana and a machete de suadero. Staff was very kind and the dining area was clean and organized! We were seated with chips and salsa which was nice. Shortly after we put our order in the food came out and everything was fresh! We also got two aguas, one de Jamaica and one de horchata, they were both bomb. Usually not a fan of horchata but for this one, I'm a sucker. It has a nice balance if sweetness which I love. The suadero here is my favorite and it's always juicy with tons of flavor. 5 stars for me all around and will most definitely be coming back.

Portions are huge! Got the super aguila torta and shared with my sister. All the meats blended together so well no question that the food is top notch! Service is great too they're kind, don't be intimidated by the all Spanish menu they speak English and can help you pick out the right plate you're looking for. The restaurant is well set up, lots of room and they have half of a Volkswagen Bug and a back drop of "El Ángel" that makes a cool photo opp! One thing I think they can improve on and is why I didn't give a 5 star is perhaps investing in some AC or some type of cooling system because it was hot humid in there, pretty unpleasant while eating. Outside wasn't nearly as hot compared to how thick the air felt in there. But I pulled through for the food which is 100% worth it! New Hayward gem, very authentic and delicious. Returned on Saturday to try out the barbacoa de chivo which was delicious and to my surprise they added a big blue fan to keep us cool lol!! Shout out management for making that happen!! 5 stars

A little hole in the wall with great food and excellent customer service! We orders the cubana- the bread was so soft and the meats were super tasty. We also had a taco de suadero- soooooo good! I highly recommend and know I'll be back soon.

Went there on a slow evening and i dont know how it wasn't crowded since it was friday after working hours. The food was sooooo good my husband and i got tortas and a gordita to try and everything was fantastic. All food was fresh, my daughters quesadilla was made with a fresh hand made tortilla which was delicious. The decor and ambience was also great, they were playing music and this is the closest to Mexico city food in the Bay Area so 10/10

Finally tried out this place out and was not disappointed. They have a small parking lot with less than 10 spaces, but there's also street parking available. They have a cute photo op area with a buggy right as you walk in. They have lots of tables which makes it a great place for groups. I got the Torta "El Chino" which was HUGE, I could barely finish half. It did have a lot of flavor which surprised me. I would decide it'll order again or try another torta, but probably will share with someone next time. My brother got the machete "el Juanga" which also had good flavor, but I felt it was missing more cheese. The person taking the orders was nice and gave good explanation of the dishes and gave recommendations. I thought it was a bit pricey, but overall I would return and recommend if you want to try Mexican food based out of Mexico City.

I tried the carne asada torta. It was very good! The portions here are huge! They have a shrimp dish (I forget the name) but it looked amazing and big enough for two. When I come back, I will try that one. The sauce they put on my torta was really tasty!. The service was attentive and friendly and it's really clean inside. The owner made an effort to say "hi" and the girl at the cashier was patient and helpful when I asked questions. My waiter, a young guy, was excellent as well. This place hits all the marks for me and I will come back.

5 STARS!! The food was beyond amazing! I have tried a few of their items and I am never disappointed! One of my favorite dishes is the Miguel Hidalgo Huarache! Definitely mouth watering food! The service was great as well! Friendly and nice! Will definitely be back for more!

Came here on a Saturday with my family since we saw they were open! Looks great inside and the staff are really friendly. We asked for their top sellers and were not disappointed. The food was fantastic! We will be definitely returning.

Torn on my review as their featured cubanas & tortas were not as good as I'd hoped. Wet, only a little flavorful & best I could say was their size (big enough for 2 meals.) On the flip side, their tacos were excellent, homemade tortillas, delicious variety of meats & good prices. The service was also very good, as was the ambience of the dining area.

Delicious tortas, the bread is fresh and soft. They have great service and very attentive to the needs. They have very great seasoning and the aguas fresh. Dined in and the place was very cute. The tortas are big and shareable!

It's a new place and the food is really good, "chilang@" is a term for people from Mexico City and the food here is legit and truly has that Mexico City taste. The staff was really friendly and the place has some very cool decor.

Food was meh- the Gordita was almost $11 for just tortilla. It had no chicharrón in there, basically tortilla onion and cheese. The torta was very skimpy with their meat, a very thin chicken milanesa. The pambaso is what gives it a two star, it was decent. The service was also nice, but perhaps they should have more than one person working. Also, please add salt to the salsa and all of the food. I suggest going to el huarache azteca in Oakland if you're looking for comida chilanga.

La calidad de las tortatas boajo muchisimo desde seis meses atrás. Las tortas si son comestibles pero no son deliciosas y el precio es bastante alto para lo que ofrecen. :(

I recommend going across the street to the taqueria to get an original torta vs this place. This spot seemed to replicate what we know as a torta, but use nothing but bread as a filler to make up for lack of all else in ingredients and flavor. Don't waste your time here. I came to support local new Latino businesses, but I'm sad for lack of authenticity. I fed most my dog. Sorry not sorry.

Service is Horrible the worse service ever. NO one will pay attention when you need service make you feel invisible .

By coincidence I pass this place and I was interested on their tortas but then I eat a pambazo, and it was delicious. The service is not bad but not great. And the place could use more decoration but the food have a 5 start.

The food is really good. It has taken me about a year to find good Mexican food near/around Hayward/San Leandro. My husband and I love the gorditas and tortas! Salsa is also good! We haven't eaten inside yet so I don't know the service but I'm hoping to eat in soon!

Food was great! Drinks where ok, I had a tehuacan preparado and it would have been great if there was no chile sauce in the drink, the salsa verde is amazing .. might be too hot for some. Service was good, the place was clean.. looks pretty new, the only big complaint is that as soon as I walked in towards my table, there was a lady who seemed to be a friend of the owner, that gave me a nasty up and down look, and she kept looking towards my table .. I find that very rude and would suggest the owner to pay attention to those details when having friends over to his business, I would consider visiting again when i'm in the area.. hopefully this bad experience is left behind....considering their great food.

I went today for the first time and I was blown away! The food was delicious, the decor was spot on, & the service was amazing!
