"I learned that La Casita at Driftwood, one of the restaurants inside Downtown’s historic Hotel Figueroa, will close this month following Noble 33’s December announcement made six days after workers told management they intended to unionize. Employees say tensions date back to Noble 33’s takeover in 2021, including complaints that positions weren’t backfilled and staff were expected to shoulder more tasks without extra pay, leaving roughly 100 food-and-beverage employees without work. Workers filed an NLRB complaint via Unite Here Local 11 in January 2024 accusing Noble 33 of suppressing labor organizing; Noble 33 says its contract with Hotel Figueroa would trigger a kill clause if employees unionized, a claim denied by both Hotel Figueroa and Unite Here Local 11." - Mona Holmes
