La Casita Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

Food of C.

Google
I realized it's been a while since I last updated my review on La Casita! We've visited them consistently since they opened and it's our all time favorite Mexican restaurant in Connecticut. The food quality and level of service here is hard to beat. I haven't found better tamales! We love that they just added a salsa bar too. Friendly staff and welcoming space. So lucky to have them in our hometown!

One of the worst takeout experiences of my life. I ordered a grilled steak burrito, however they were all out of steak. So I settled for a grilled chicken burrito. I told the lady on the phone I would like the rice and beans inside my burrito along with corn guac and sour cream, not just on the plate. I couldn’t really comprehend the fact that their burritos are generally just tortilla and chicken, sitting on top of the rice and beans? But whatever I adjusted as necessary. I pick up my $22 burrito on my way home. I get home and bust open my food to see an unwrapped toritila with only chicken and corn inside, sitting in a puddle of sour cream. Quality was terrible and apparently the chefs aren’t the brightest as the receipt stated that “toppings inside burrito.” 0/10 experience, would never go back. However, if they re named the place to “Chips and Salsa,” I’d give them a 10/10, spot on there. Here’s a picture so you can see the tortilla imprint on the sour cream.

The food is usually great but I’m not too sure if they understand the concept of communication lately. I called friday and it was clearly very busy and they could have said they are doing no pickup but I was on hold for 6 minutes extremely hungry after work, I called back after the 6 minute wait and was told to hold and as soon as it hit 2 minutes I knew I was not going to be tended to. This was after ordering 2 days in a row prior as I was really enjoying everything. Okay, that instance can be forgiven…Tonight, I ordered my usual order (nachos supreme shredded chicken, add peppers, remove onions) that I’ve ordered for a while as there is familiarity even with some of the staff, but was met with an overexplanation of 2 minutes about how the nachos supreme already comes with onions and how it’s the grilled nachos that come with pepper as if I have not ordered this same order multiple times. Then when I clarify that I’m just making the order I usually make, I was told “well no just because there’s you usual people…*SIGH*” like wait WHAT? And then I pick up my nachos and they were legit a pile of cheese and tomatoes with peppers and chicken buried way underneath—something that is not a coincidence with how I was treated. The same La Casita that I’ve ordered at since 2021 that I naturally always feel the want to tip even just for pickup?? I know there is just no way. The same La Casita that I referred to as Naugatuck’s true Mexican restaurant to multiple people throughout the years???? Dude nah. That’s just messed up. Treating your usual patrons like just anyone else is genuinely upsetting and now, I can’t say I would recommend for anyone to visit here outside of single sporadic visits. The sheer rudeness on top of purposefully screwing with my food has permanently ended my time with you guys and it’s a shame.

First time at this local restaurant. The atmosphere was casual, great for a Tuesday night.. Our waiter was absolutely adorable and very accommodating. For starters the Moonlight Margarita hit the spot! The fajitas were delicous and bountiful. My husband enjoyed my leftovers as there was more than enough for both of us. We will definitely go back again 😊

Google
I love the food and customer service is excellent. My favorite dessert comes first for me. The deep fried ice cream with corn flakes and swirly chocolate. My favorite dinner is Mar y Tiera Land and sea, steal chicken and shrimp with rice and beans, guacamole. So yummy. I’m on my way to get some .❤️

Google
Great Mexican food, stopped by during the 2021 holiday tree lighting. Food and service was very good. Loved the chips and salsa, enchiladas with ground beef. Suiza so tomatillo sauce. Plus a fajita / burrito that was delicious… 22 onces beer 🍺 WOW. Jarrito Mexican soda very good too.

Google
The food was great. The staff was very nice and always on top of things. Naugatuck is hit or miss with food and La Casita hits it out of the park. Definitely the best Mexican food around.

Google
The food here is amazing. Definitely can't wait to visit again

Yelp
Amazing food, best Mexican restaurant around, nice atmosphere. Great drinks. Great tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to eating here based on the reviews and we were very disappointed. Everything was white washed and bland, lacking seasoning and flavor. We ordered: - beef taquitos appetizer - over cooked and dried out - combo with chicken enchilada and shredded beef burrito - Couldn't tell which one was which and they were seemingly the same, aka meat rolled in a tortilla with some sauce and cheese on top. - combo with beef enchilada and burrito - same as above The shredded beef in the burrito was actually good, had a nice flavor but wasn't enough to make up for the rest. Rice and beans were flavorless, rice was over cooked, almost mushy. Salsa tasted like watery tomato sauce and had no substance. Imagine someone put some water in a salsa jar to get the last bits out and put it in a bowl "Tomato and onions" - I was expecting like a pico de gallo. It was half ripened, chopped tomatoes and onions. The most bizarre thing I've seen. Guacamole was whipped or something, looked and tasted like the pre-made wholly guacamole packs The pictures don't lie

Yelp
While the restaurant has a nice location & atmosphere, and the server was pleasant, the food is totally lacking in quality and spice. If you love bland Mexican cuisine, this could be your go to place, however if you'd like authentic Mexican food, this is not a good choice. I ordered the chile colorado Macho burrito, and it had mucho rice and beans. Not much beef and definitely not much colorado. Even the salsa was bland and tasted like ketchup or tomato sauce.

Yelp
We got takeout great service and the food was amazing we will be back was our first time there!

Yelp
Food - A Service - A++ Ambiance - A Juan does a great job at creating a fun experience while in the bar area. The food service was great and I have to recommended the wings. For a Mexican restaurant they hold their own in flavor. I recommends coming to this little bar and supporting a great small business!

Yelp
Third visit here and best yet! Fantastic service, friendly ... and really good tequila! I tried the mole chicken which is definitely a new favorite, my girls had the fajita quesadillas, one steak and one chicken and my husband the combo plate with a cheese enchilada, a pork taco which he says was the best he's had and the chicken chimichanga. Everything is house made including the spicy salsa verde which was soooooo tasty! Everything was perfect and our host made us feel right at home! If you're craving great Mexican you gave yo give this place a try! They ROCK!

Laura J.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Love taco Tuesday and happy hour! Guava margaritas are the best!

StockMkt M.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to go for great Mexican food. I like the Presidente margarita with the Chicken fajita burrito. It is always top quality. I also like that the staff always has a smile. I have gone to other places where you can tell that the staff is not happy at work. I use this as a gauge to rank a restaurant.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Revisiting this place, I have been here a few times before. Ordered the fish tacos. They were tasty and came with a mixed veg, sauce, rice and beans. Very good. I also ordered the virgin jalapeno margarita, delicious. Sweet with a serious kick. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Pleasant surprise!!! We recently moved and we were having a hard time finding a quality Mexican place that was close. We came here based on the Yelp ratings and we were not disappointed!!! Food and service both were great.
google avatar

Louanne C.

Yelp
First time here so far good we went at an off time so it wasn't crowded salsa and home made chips were good ordered steak street tacos husband ordered arroz con pollo both very good husband had fried ice cream for dessert Highly recommend

Yelp
I was very happy to find this Mexican restaurant located conveniently at the end of Church street and very close to my house. My first and only order so far was the grilled chicken quesadilla. Flavors were great and was gone in about 5 minutes. It came with sour cream, side salad and fresh and delicious salsa and guacamole. Even the chips it came with were warm when I got home! Cannot wait to try more from this restaurant!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is good, better than typical Mexican-American. Prices are very reasonable. Service is always spot on. Great family dinner out venue. Love sitting outside for dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
What a wonderful find! It's pretty authentic. The salsa they bring ot with the chips is pretty mild but they will bring out spicier salsa if you ask. The spicier salsa had very good flavor and a nice kick. I ordered the enchiladas suizas with the pork salsa verde meat. They were delicious! Just the right amount of meat and sauce blend. Not dry like many other places. My fiance ordered the 7 mares soup (7 seas soup) and he thought it was delicious too! I'll definitely come again.

musl3guy G.

Yelp
Food was never delivered, driver said he sent pictures I never received, no emails, no texts. I literally order from you once a week . Shame what passes as good business?!?! Negative stars for Negative service
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
I am honestly not the biggest fan of Mexican cuisine. However, this place is delicious, was never disappointed with the food. I've been wanting to try the potato nachos out of curiosity. Other restaurants I have a hard time with their seasoning and texture of chicken. The food is always hot and delicious. It has been good every time.

Wasim A.

Yelp
Had the Chicken Mole enchiladas and they were delicious. Really appreciated how the wait staff treated me as a single diner, friendly, provided a tray of chips and salsa, checked in frequently, and recommended a green sauce to go with the meal. Wonderful food and service.
google avatar

Yelp
Got take out. Tacos were the best. Excellent taco shells, beef, and quesadillas. Will order or visit again soon.
google avatar

Paula L.

Yelp
The food is very good and you get good size portions. It can be a bit pricey but the value makes it worth it. The margaritas are always great and very big. The staff are normally very attentive and friendly. The decor inside is typical for a Spanish style restaurant and it's is clean also.

Yelp
Wow! A fantastic Mexican place in Naugatuck!!! I wasn't able to take photos of our delicious food because it was scarfed down immediately. Our friends, my husband and I enjoyed the Macho burrito, Chicken Flautas, El Paso Chimichanga, and tacos with chicken. They were out of pork for the tacos, which was unfortunate, but apologized a number of times about that! Tasty salsas with our meal, including a spicy one that we were surprised at! Luckily none of us were afraid of a little heat. And we enjoyed some complimentary chips too which was great. Next time I'll be sure to try a different entree and enjoy a maragarita on the side for sure!

Yelp
Updated review: I still really love this restaurant and I became a regular there! Guilty I just love the food, owners and scene so much !!! I did a review last year and everything remains the same. This place needs more attention then what it gets !! Look a the size of these platters ! And it tastes like it's been homemade by grandma! My friends have become huge fans!!

Antonio L.

Yelp
Phenomenal place, slow service but real authentic Mexican food. Owner takes pride in what they do, great staff and overall quality of food. Fair prices and truly (as a Mexican) very authentic and delicious, very well cooked, Mexican food. A MUST!

Rachel G.

Yelp
Great food, great service and ambiance. The best of the best here in little ol Naugatuck

Yelp
So, we have been on a quest since moving from Seattle to Connecticit to find GOOD Mexican food. Admittedly we were more than spoiled with the quality options we had back in Seattle so I may be a bit of a foodie snob here To be fair, I go for the big 3...sorry....Los tres grandes ... to judge evenly when trying new places. The chips, the salsa, and their fajitas are my go to for a first shot. We've found some, no bueno places, some "doable" places, and some ok places but we've yet to find El primo. Until tonight....Chips - light, but still had body....no salt needed here to hide the grease aftertaste. They were warm, not because the sat under a heat lamp, these bad boys were fresh. Salsa - initial portions, yes portions... Can we just pass a law that all patrons get they're own salsa?? I mean I love my wife...not afraid of cooties. I just want own, my precious as the little goblin dude would say. Sorry lost my way. Initial portions were small but the flavor was large. Definately home made, no prepackaged here.!! When I ask for more to go with my dinner she asks regular or spicy...mind blown...why yes spicy please. Talk about flavor ..yummm. I legit asked if they sold bottles I could by it was so good. Faijitas - like chips, the last thing you want is to taste the oils the veggies cooked in, or watch it drip off when you go to slap those veggies into the tortilla right? No worries here...nothing but fresh green/red peppers and sweet onions. The chicken and steak was cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful. Is it just me or do you hate it when you halve half your dish left but you went 3 and O on your tortillas?? 6 tortillas in and I was mission complete..and there was still a tortilla left. Now I know I said I judge on the big 3 and you're probably tired of reading but it would be fair if I didn't address the service. I felt like I was eating in their home. The food was all clearly freshly made and service was just as refreshing. I lost count of how many stopped by to take care of us or just to see how things were or just to chat. It's nice to dine somewhere where people seem like they enjoy their work vs having to work. It's a bit of a drive for us but I have to It's worth it. The quest is not over but tonight we found great Mexican food and I'm certain you would agree if you stop by this gem and have a bite.

Yelp
We ordered food to go. They missed 1 item on our order and did a fantastic job fixing the mistake they refunded the item and delivered it to my house, and the food was great! I would highly recommend not many businesses seek excellence like this restaurant!
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
La Casita has that family owned feel (not sure if it is). I have been here several times, and I can say that the food is very consistent, fresh, hot, and tasty. If you aren't a fan of cilantro (like myself), make note when ordering the quac because they don't use a dash, it's one of the main ingredients (very heavy). The wait staff can sometimes be inconsistent, but it seems it may be due to young and inexperienced folks just getting into the biz. Either way, I definitely recommend giving this a shot if you're in the area and looking for Mexican dishes!
google avatar

Handy E.

Yelp
Food was very good, service was good as well but waitress seemed very disoriented and confused. As well did the host. No one greeted me or my guest upon arrival. I had to knock on kitchen door for service. Overall, good food.
google avatar

Antonio S.

Yelp
An amazing tastefully authentic Mexican cuisine and awesome drinks. Can't beat this place in the area. Seasonal and special drinks by the bartender Tony at the bar only. You are lucky if he is working when you there. Good atmosphere, good environment, excellent service, good food, good tequila selection, and after all, GOOD drinks!!!!
google avatar

Kelandrya B.

Yelp
Amazing food with large portions! The margaritas are amazing and made fresh! They have MANY tequila choices! The fajita sandwich is my absolute favorite! The owner introduces himself to everyone and always makes sure everything is perfect! Great place and much needed for Naugatuck!
google avatar

Kevin A.

Yelp
My family and I tried La Casita for the first time and we enjoyed ourselves. The drinks are strong and tasty. Everything was reasonably priced. The waiter was probably new, but that was the slowest part of the experience for me. Watching him carry the tray of drinks was painful in all honesty. The food however was on point. We'll be back again.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Good 'changas Yelp makes me type more characters but that's all you need to know

Judith R.

Yelp
After moving to Connecticut from Arizona, I had a tough time finding ANY Mexican food that could live up to what I was used to out West... that was until we found La Casita!! My family and I love this place and I bring all my friends as well! Great service! Amazing food & drinks!! Incredible prices!!!
google avatar

Jaime H.

Yelp
We've gotten takeout from La Casita several times and every time the food has been fantastic! My favorite is the mole enchiladas but the salads are huge and great and family always loves their food too. You can preorder in their website for a quick pickup.
google avatar

Autumnn S.

Yelp
Orders the Veggie Fajita to go. So happy they have vegetarian options! Also comes with chips and salsa

Chelsea F.

Yelp
Worst Restaurant I've ever been to. Waited 20 minutes before deciding to leave and in that time not one person brought us waters or even came to the table. Also, the salsa is absolutely terrible.
google avatar

Maria S.

Yelp
We have been here twice. Both times were good. Food is pretty authentic and drink are also. Great little find.
google avatar

Florian H.

Yelp
I'll start this off with the positives. The food was actually pretty good. I'm no Mexican food expert, but their menu was more expansive than many restaurants I've been too and it was executed well. Sadly, good food isn't the whole experience. Due to COVID we chose to sit in their outdoor seating. After 2 interactions with the server to get seated, get drinks and order, the server never once came to check on us. Our water glasses were empty for a long time as was our chip basket, and no one from the restaurant even poked their head outside. After being there for 45+ minutes we finally asked where our food was (not complicated dishes) and they blamed it on "lots of takeout orders". As much as that may be true, why not come tell us earlier that our food might be delayed? The manager also came out (we did not ask to see him) and had no idea how long we had been waiting. Good food can only get you so far. Bad communication and ignoring paying customers means we will not likely be back.

R P.

Yelp
We were in the area so stopped bh for lunch based on Yelp reviews. Food was fine but nothing i would repeat. Salsa was very so so.

Kathleen R.

Yelp
Worst Mexican food I ever ate and I have had Mexican food all over different states in the USA.
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
This place has all the staples a town like naugatuck needs, the only margarita (get the el presidente) I didn't need to add any extra lime juice to, great portion sizes, friendly service, and so close to home? Check check check. Got the la casita chimichanga and it was the perfect portion, flavor, and temp

Novas R.

Yelp
terrible!!!!!!!!!!! 2 hours i waited for tacos and a burrito and gave me drinks and forgot all about me. i knew i should of left the very moment i had to sit myself down and grab a menu for myself i rate this a 1 star restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Food had hair and salvia on my food please don't not goooooo!!!!

Samantha S.

Yelp
Good food, service okay, good drinks. I had the chimichanga which I liked. Queso dip lacked flavor but salsa was very good. I would definitely try coming here again.

Sara G.

Yelp
Great array of options and friendly staff. I enjoy getting takeout from this place now, as I don't feel comfortable dining in; however, it looks like they've done a great job at spreading tables apart and all staff members have masks. Would get food here everyday if I could
google avatar

Deane M.

Yelp
Arrived and decided to sit at the bar. All the tables were open. Waited a long time to be served. Asked for a margarita and a "blue" drink special. The drinks were decent and the price was good. Chips are complimentary and are served with a decent salsa cutely served in a small pourer. Waited what seemed like an eternity for another drink. Got a lot of time stop here.
google avatar

Camille S.

Yelp
Visiting here from Southern California. We have Mexican restaurants pretty much on every corner in SoCal. The guac at La Casita is legit! Best homemade guac I've had in a long time!!!! And all of our food was delicious!!! Awesome service, too!!!!

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
great foo, excellent service and ambiance! owner is very attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a good find! The staff is super friendly and accommodating! Service is fast. The food has been wonderful every time we go. And so are the margaritas!!!
