Yelp
So, we have been on a quest since moving from Seattle to Connecticit to find GOOD Mexican food. Admittedly we were more than spoiled with the quality options we had back in Seattle so I may be a bit of a foodie snob here
To be fair, I go for the big 3...sorry....Los tres grandes ... to judge evenly when trying new places. The chips, the salsa, and their fajitas are my go to for a first shot. We've found some, no bueno places, some "doable" places, and some ok places but we've yet to find El primo.
Until tonight....Chips - light, but still had body....no salt needed here to hide the grease aftertaste. They were warm, not because the sat under a heat lamp, these bad boys were fresh.
Salsa - initial portions, yes portions...
Can we just pass a law that all patrons get they're own salsa?? I mean I love my wife...not afraid of cooties. I just want own, my precious as the little goblin dude would say. Sorry lost my way. Initial portions were small but the flavor was large. Definately home made, no prepackaged here.!! When I ask for more to go with my dinner she asks regular or spicy...mind blown...why yes spicy please. Talk about flavor
..yummm. I legit asked if they sold bottles I could by it was so good.
Faijitas - like chips, the last thing you want is to taste the oils the veggies cooked in, or watch it drip off when you go to slap those veggies into the tortilla right? No worries here...nothing but fresh green/red peppers and sweet onions. The chicken and steak was cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful. Is it just me or do you hate it when you halve half your dish left but you went 3 and O on your tortillas?? 6 tortillas in and I was mission complete..and there was still a tortilla left.
Now I know I said I judge on the big 3 and you're probably tired of reading but it would be fair if I didn't address the service. I felt like I was eating in their home. The food was all clearly freshly made and service was just as refreshing. I lost count of how many stopped by to take care of us or just to see how things were or just to chat. It's nice to dine somewhere where people seem like they enjoy their work vs having to work.
It's a bit of a drive for us but I have to It's worth it. The quest is not over but tonight we found great Mexican food and I'm certain you would agree if you stop by this gem and have a bite.
