"Carondelet Street Mexican eatery La Casita on the Patio has closed. According to the Advocate, owner John Michael Wade is looking to focus his attention on his Oak Street restaurant, La Casita Taqueria. The closure comes just a few months after Casita on the Patio was rebranded — it was previously something fancier, named El Patio (but before that, it was La Casita, although under a different owner)." - Tim Forster

This place is a hidden gem on Carondelet in my opinion! Absolutely great food, drinks, atmosphere, and even better service! One of the managers, Matt, makes you feel right at home here. It's pet friendly as well where the back patio is located!! I loved it so much I went two days in a row ... so that should say something about this place. I will 100% be going back! Also happy hour is from 3-7p every single day

Atmosphere is really good. Can't say much about the food. Good place to hang out anyway but maybe not eat, unless they improve the quality. The pork didn't taste good, chicken was better. Menu didn't seem to offer much. Person with me didn't like the Tacos much either. I would serve chips and salsa too. One day we'll be back to try again, maybe in evening. Place had great potential.

4.5 ⭐️ if I could. Not top tier and there is room for improvement. Can’t beat the half price happy hour specials. That’s the best. Go here before 6:30pm. Taco sizes are street taco size. If you judge taco sizes using Taco Bell as a reference you will be disappointed. If you are hungry get 4 or more. Fish tacos were OK but mostly tasted like the deep fried breading. Al pastor was above average. The best taco was the mushroom taco which had a nice smoky taste and crunchy texture. The margarita was average but was only $4.50 on happy hour.

I loved the atmosphere here. The service was efficient and friendly. We sat outside on the patio. There is an outside bar there and different kinds of seating in addition to the traditional table and chairs. Unfortunately, two of the freezers went out over night and so they were restricted to a very limited menu. My husband and I both ordered tacos. He had the carnitas which were light on meat. I ordered the Al pastor which had an abundance of meat but it was tough. At $5.00 per taco, I thought they were on the pricy side. They are half price at happy hour. I might try it again for happy hour, but would skip it as a lunch place.

The actual patio is PERFECT for chill HH with friends. I plan to utilize it for future parties/celebrations. The menu isn’t your typical Mexican menu. The flavors and ingredients are on point and refreshing for those looking for traditional but also above-average, unique eats. Service is right on. The prices are really nice especially considering the fresh ingredients. The HH is a great deal with plenty of choices.

The patio is definitely the shining star of this Downton spot. Spaciousness, landscaped, comfortable seats, appropriately volumed music, and photographic murals work together to create a patio I'd love to hang out at anytime. Food is okay but the drinks are delicious, especially at happy hour.
