La Catedral Cafe - New Eastside

Wow, was I blown away. I wish I had found La Catedral earlier!! Because I will definitely be coming back. The interior design is so gorgeous, and they maintain a chill but lively atmosphere through some faint pop/latin music. Their chilaquiles are beautiful. And I appreciated that my salsa came separately so I could really see what the spice level was. The horchata was delicious, and I had downed the whole thing almost entirely by the time my food came. Only complaints would be that the physical menu doesn’t list prices (but I LOVED the artistic elements included), you have to check online for prices, and I unfortunately got cilantro when I asked for none — but I enjoyed my food nonetheless!!

This was such a highlight on my trip to Chicago. Amazing staff and delicious food. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. One of the staff members even went out of her way to give me a list of things to do in the city. Totally recommend!

Come with an appetite! The food is delicious, the servings are more than filling. (Could possibly be split between two no so hungry individuals!) My group had a good cross sampling of various dishes from the menu. Be careful with the salsa chille de arbol, starts with a simmer and then as your moving through the meal it feels like it turned up the heat! Highly recommend, great healthy fresh juices with a great walkabout cup/ souvenir! (Reusable!)

Excellent food, service, and decor. Every worker greeted us with a warm smile and asked how we are doing. Really pleased with the friendly staff, and the food was brought out quickly and tasted excellent. Looking forward to coming here again! We recommend the pollo y mango sandwich, arroz con leche y fresas crepes, and al guajillo chilaquiles.

Such an amazing find! First time visiting while in Downtown and it was great. The food and drinks were delicious and the service absolutely amicable and welcoming. Great prices really, for a downtown establishment. Wish I would have taken more pictures of the actual restaurant, I really liked it. Looking forward to recommending to friends and family and returning, hopefully soon.

Great food followed by great service! The atmosphere is clean and inviting! i found this place on Tik tok and i knew i had to come here to try it out, and it did NOT disappoint! Great food selections and beverages! Our waitress, Yessica was wonderful and very helpful (since it was our first time there it was great to have recommendations of food to try out!) From Nebraska to Chi-Town this place was a 10/10 and would come back in the future! I wish we had something like this back in NE!

Worth a stop! La Catedral was a terrific find in the New East Side area (East Randolph). The ambience is warm without trying too hard, and the service was excellent. Daniela and Jonatan were attentive and friendly the whole time. Lots of really great menu options. I ordered the French toast with bananas and lechera and a large café de olla. Both were ridiculously good. Solid spot worth coming back to, again and again.

Overall has good food and vibes. Very creative Menu with a wide variety of drinks. However service is not the greatest. Have gone on 2 separate occasions and the server was basically non existent.

The birriachiles and cafe de olla were amazing. The restaurant felt nice and warm. It is super close to Millenium park which was super convenient.

A nice spot that's inexpensive and great food close to conference hotels. Worth the walk from the Hyatt Regency or Swissotel. Atmosphere/ambience: very casual, nice tall windows, lots of catholic relics! Service: Fairly attentive and someone always within eye sight to help. Good walk through of menu options and warnings/double-checking for spiciness tolerance. Water requests often didn't have much delay. Food: some great brunch options, a whole page dedicated for 18 chilaquelas varieties. Highly recommend adding the chicken stew to any of them, and get some extra sour cream if you dare to try the mocajete chilaquelas like me! It was delicious and very spicy. Love the refried beans consistency -- not too dry and good seasoning. There were a few vegetarian options my companions appreciated. We loved the fries. Very crispy but not hard on the outside and velvety on the inside. The guacamole looked great. We wanted to order it, but read portions were large and this was true! Drinks: extensive NA, alcoholic, smoothies, coffee, and milkshakes. We just had water. Price: very inexpensive for conference area fare at sitdown prices. Came away around $24 each for tax and tip.

Caught by surprise at how good the food is here! They're such a hidden gem inside of an apartment complex behind wild berry. They have tasty brunch options, friendly staff and cute restaurants decor. So glad we came here on a slow Sunday morning to have a relaxing brunch! We ordered the angelic breakfast which was filling and delicious! And the strawberry pancakes. The portion is huge and the coffee was amazing.

My fiance and I came here around 10 on a Saturday. To our surprise, it wasn't very busy. We were quickly greeted and seated. The restaurant is spacious and has a cathedral theme. It's a nice place for a casual breakfast/brunch. The workers are very friendly and efficient. Multiple servers came to check on us throughout our breakfast. To drink, we ordered iced cafe de ollas. They were perfectly sweet and had a subtle cinnamon flavor. We ordered the ranchero chilaquiles and torta especial. The portions were HUGE and the food was delicious!! The torta was sooo good. The pork had plenty of sauce and a nice little kick. Everything tasted great individually, and even better all together. The fries were also perfectly crisp! The chilaquiles were equally as good. We ordered the ranchero salsa so it wouldn't be too spicy. We probably could've gotten a spicier salsa, but it was still amazing! I would definitely recommend checking this place out. I'm already booking a trip back to Chicago just to eat here!

Street parking was available. No wait, we were seated immediately and we had a party of about 12 at 10am on a Friday. Very large menu of just about whatever you can think. I had a difficult time ordering, because I wanted to taste a bit of everything. Half the table ordered cafe de olla (hot) and it comes in a huge mug. You can also order it as an iced coffee. I ordered the iced coffee with horchata in it and it was very good and sweet. Some people ordered fresh squeezed juice which came in what appeared to be a souvenir cups. All of our meals came out as they were ready and everything looked amazing. My meals had flavor, was authentic and was amazing. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive, although we had one person take our order, it seemed to be a team effort as different people brought out our meals, cleaning the table etc. The decor inside is beautiful and authentic, down to the tiles on the floor. Definitely a place to come for good food. You will not be disappointed.

I can't profess to be an expert at chilaquiles, but this was a tasty one this morning. A friend and I both chose the mole and chicken version, but it looked like they had at least 12-14 different versions of chilaquiles. Sizable order, with a tasty rich mole sauce. I'm used to just getting eggs on the chilaquiles without asking but here, you have to ask for them. I chose over easy, and loved that combo. I asked if I could do an horchata latte because they had espresso and horchata. I may not have explained it well--they separately brought the espresso and the horchata and I poured one into the other--but it was still tasty. Didn't even know they were part of a chain. Good solid breakfast choice if you're in that hood.

This Mexican restaurant is a real find and only a few blocks from MI Ave. I really enjoyed the Lemonade with Chia and the La Catedral enchiladas. My favorite was the chips and guacamole. Chips are made fresh in-house and are delicious!Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Would recommend for lunch menu. Did not try the breakfast but looks delicious too!

Absolutely DELICIOUS unexpected gem. I came to Chicago for work and this place popped up for Mexican food options in Uber eats and I'm SO glad it did. I wish I could visit in person, but having such delicious home made food delivered to my hotel helped make me less home sick. I had the chilaquiles and the breakfast quesadilla on separate days (I also have a torta waiting in my personal item to eat at the airport) and they're ALL so fragrant, fresh, tasty, and HUGE portions! Even the bag it came in was lovely, and I'm actually taking it home with me, the little picture of their shop on it is so homey and designed very lovely. Their iced mexchata made my morning INFINITELY brighter. This place is amazing, wish I could try more of their menu before leaving!

Food was ok. Ordered carne asada burrito and the meat was dry . but customer service was excellent and the agua Fresca was delicious. They were about to close maybe that's why the burrito wasn't at its prime. Will try again see if it's better quality. Easy to find

I ran here to write a review! I'm not a big breakfast eater, so when I choose to get breakfast, it HAS to be good! La Catedral did not disappoint. I ordered to-go because we were heading to the airport that morning. The service was friendly, and our food came out hot and fresh. While I waited, I could see the dining areas, and they were bright, clean, and accommodating (large booths, etc.) I got the chilaquiles verdes (and added stewed chicken), and it was spectacular! My egg was cooked perfectly (over medium), the beans were perfection, and the level of spice was perfection. I also grabbed a coffee with cream and vanilla, and it was delicious. I'm not a fancy coffee girlie...I just like a solid cup o' Joe. This hit the spot! Avoid the wait and the crowds elsewhere. This is where you should be when your breakfast/coffee cravings hit!

The parking situation is not good but the #60 CTA bus stops right in front! I've been to several of their locations before so I knew what I was getting as far as the food goes. My go to picks are the chilaquiles poblanos and the cafe de olla, both are delicious! Since hearing about the new location downtown, I wanted to come out and show some support. I quickly realized I wasn't going to find street parking nearby. There are only a few spots available across street. There is a paid parking garage that appears is mostly for residents of the building, but also has a limited number of pay spots. I decided to pay to park here and soon regretted it, because I ended up paying $20 just for parking! This ended up being an expensive breakfast.

Had the best time at La Catedral. The food was great. The service was on point. We had no complaints. We sat in our booth stuffed....the only thing missing was a mimosa.

Wow! This epic place deserves far more than five stars. The decor nods to an old school cathedral vibe (hence the name) but feels bright, fresh, and clean. The menu is full of classic Mexican options that all look divine. We both tried versions of the chilaquiles and a plate of Enfijoladas La Caterdal. The flavors were authentic and left us craving more. You can really taste how "home made" the food was. From the tortillas to the beans, they take pride in representing what I can only assume is a family recipe that is generations old. The service was on point, with the staff clearly communicating amongst each other, the timing on plates was perfect. We never wanted or waited for anything, even with the restaurant being completely full. Bravo!

What a perfect way to start the day! After passing a looong line of people waiting at Wildberry Cafe down the street, I almost walked back to tell them all to come down the block to this place! The perfect cup of cafe de olla, chill atmosphere, and delicious breakfast. Whether you want something authentic for breakfast or are looking for a couple of eggs and pancakes, La Catedral is worth heading to

I haven't felt heat like this since i felt the spice pf Taco Hell. Those crunch wraps are fire... the chilaquiles here had me sweating! The wait times were long since it was the holiday. The fresh juices were awesome too. For real though, if Chi-Chi's is spicy for you, proceed with caution.

Lovely environs, menu bland and uninteresting. Portions small, but everything was tasty. The server was a joy.

I highly recommend this place their coffee is simply delicious. We had birriaquiles, very authentic and flavory. If you want something different than just eggs and bread, this is the best choice.

Amazing find! Agree with the person who said to skip the wait at the restaurant down the street and head here. Amazing veggie omelet with house made flour tortillas, my husband tried the chilaquiles and they were incredible, and the latte and hot chocolate were off the charts. Huge portions, reasonable prices and great service.

Excited to have this new breakfast / brunch place in the neighborhood. Went for breakfast and everything was delicious and we have over the top service. Staff was very friendly. Place has cathedral decor, which adds to the vibe. Hoping they are able to add cocktails and expand to the patio for summer.

My partner got chilaquiles and absolutely loved them. I got pretty generic stuff - waffle (also lovely). You have to scan the QR code on the table to see the prices, as the physical menus have no price listed (slightly odd). That said, prices are reasonable here, so no issue there. My only complaint is that the coffee was not great, I've had mostly melted when they served it, and they served it in plastic to go cups (we were dining-in).

Food is amazing! I had the cathedral chicken enchiladas. The green sauce has just the right amount of spice.

We have been praying for good Mexican breakfast and good coffee in the neighborhood and this place delivers! A whole page of chilaquiles are you kidding?!? as a native Texan I have to say...best in Chicago by far! In our hood there is a two hour wait on weekends for wild berry breakfast spot...let me tell you...wild berry better watch out because this place has alllll the breakfast foods (Mexican + American) and so much more. The ambiance is bright, clean and well done. Will be repeating (weekly)

This Place just Open a month ago but the service and food was great. I love visiting any Catedral locations because coffee/serivice/ food never disappoints. The chilaquiles are very popular but I had a torta de milanesa and it was soo good. My kids like the tacos and fries. And of course you have the cafe de olla- they make fresh juces and smoothies and have healthy options as well- Great to accommodate larger parties of 6+ and portions are a good size for sharing

Went to a cafe and restaurant named La Catedral Cafe & Restaurant in Loop and it was a good experience. The food was not stale, had been properly seasoned, and it was hot but not waiting a long time. The service was quite attentive yet not in a hurry, which is unusual to the place.

Visiting from San Diego. Daniela was awesome and service! Great food and vibe must come and try.

If you travel to the city of Chicago you must visit La Catedral Cafe & Restaurant on E Randolph Street for a wonderful dining experience! The food, the service and the environment is amazing and unique. All of the staff and most of the customers were of the Latinx culture and that's always a plus plus when you want authenticity in the cuisine. We enjoyed lunch here yesterday and had the freshest tasting guacamole with house baked crunchy tortilla chips topped off with the mini pork burritos smothered with queso fresco and refried beans! You must seek out this hidden neighborhood gem! You won't regret it. The breakfast/brunch menu is extensive and we need to return to try the star of the menu The Chilaquiles! Five and a half stars all around.

Delicious chilaquiles! We had the pollo con mole and the birria. Both were generous portions and full of flavor. Also got the frita quesadillas but they were a little disappointing because the dough was a little hard and the cheese inside was not that flavorful. But it came with a side a birria, avocado, and sour cream so that gave it more flavor. Beautiful and comfortable space and convenient to grant park.

The best breakfast we had in Chicago by FAR!!! Service was excellent and the food was amazing!

The first red flag was no prices were listed on the menus provided. Only when we asked did they point to faded QR codes which didn't work, so we got up to scan from another table. The chicken strawberry salad was swimming in a cloying sweet dressing. Even though they were told it was too sweet and saw it was untouched, they didn't offer to make it a salad instead of a dessert and charged full price anyway. Unfortunately that was the healthiest thing I saw on their menu. The ambience was nice though. Luckily Sopprafina is a short walk away by the Aon building, which had fresh omelets, real salads, a much brighter flavor profile and available outdoor seating. We w on't be returning to La Catedral.

Nothing about the descriptions of their dishes hints at how perfectly they are seasoned. Tried the chilaquiles and the chef's special, both were among the best breakfast dishes I've had in a year or more.

I was passing by to grab some breakfast items before catching my flight back home. I noticed this place the first day in Chicago and was made a mental note to stop by before leaving. The online menu provided extensive options and affordable prices. As soon as I walked in, several staff members greeted me warmly. The manager, Antonio, was exceptional and gave me the best recommendations. Of course, you expect good food, but the staff took it to another level--making sure everything was perfect from the meal itself to the overall experience, even though I was just ordering to-go. Highly recommend this spot!

It was our first time visiting this great place. Chilaquiles is my favorite breakfast and it was hard to pick. All the chilaquiles on the menu say they come with scrambled eggs, but you can get them how you like them. Great selection of natural juices. Fantastic service. We can't wait to come back. Prices aren't on the menu, but the entrees were all reasonable around $16-$17.

Unbelievable! I never thought I'd find a restaurant better than Little Village's La Catedral. The Loop's La Catedral is just that, better! This is without a doubt the best of the best! I am Mexican and from Chicago. My mom was a chef. Her mom was a chef. I am a consumer of Mexican food. Simply da best in Chicago!

Booooo. We were so much looking forward to supporting the new restaurant in our area!!! But,,,, we didn't even make it into the front door- bounced by the polite hostess. Weekend mornings are for sipping not gulping. I take my coffee nice and slow, the way it should be enjoyed. In the 2020's people are practically attached to coffee and water bottles. I'm not going to 'leave it at the bar', as you suggested. Come on Catedral,,,,,, our outside drinks are allowed into Starbucks, Eggy's, WildBerry, Yolk, Ventaux, and all the other breakfast places in the neighborhood, so we'll stick with them. Change your 1990's policy please, so we can support you.

Pretty good food. Huge selection! Hit the spot and didn't need to wait even though we were visiting for a Sunday brunch at 11am.

Staying at the St Regis, I decided to walk to a new breakfast place. I found La Cathedral!!! The Chilaquiles is amazing!!! They were fast with great service!! Gracias!

I have ordered twice since the opened this week- a BLT & fries & just ordered breakfast- they nailed it! Online ordering was easy & they cooked my eggs perfectly medium over easy. A great addition to our neighborhood! Super nice staff.

Finally! La Catedral downtown! If you want some great coffee, chilaquiles and excellent service this is the spot. The aesthetic inside is beautiful and makes for an ambiance like no other, truly like we're right next to the cathedral in mexico. My best recommendations for this spot.
