First time visit! Despite my 3 stars, I have to say, the place has a fun vibe, and it's definitely a popular spot. We arrived on a Friday evening at 5:15, and by 5:30 there was a line at the door.
There is an awesome double deck patio outside, and inside funky table decorations, which were fun.
The staff were attentive, service was quick, and food was good and decently priced.
I had the Molcajete -- a hot stone filled with grilled chicken and steak strips, shrimp, and carnitas, along with grilled peppers, onion, and cactus (that's a first for me!). It came with rice, refried beans, shredded lettuce salad, guac, a couple chunks of warmed cheese sticks, seasoned rice, and choice of tortillas. The carnita meat was excellent and my fave. I definitely had leftovers though - lots of food with that dish! My niece wanted plain hamburger tacos, and we got the La Catrina cheese dip with beef -- really so good! I could eat a ton of that!
Everything was nice. I just wasn't blown away by the food. That dip was awesome -- but everything else was ok, not served at the hottest temp, a little heavy on the cooking oil, and almost no ice in my tea. They were busy on a Friday -- so in all transparency I didn't bug the waitress on any of this. But, (as a former waitress, I'll say) if the place is consistency this busy on a popular Friday night dinner rush, maybe be a little more prepared for better food. So, 3 stars.
We enjoyed the dinner, and I'd go back / recommend a visit if you're in the neighborhood -- especially if you want a good patio. Not sure I'd go out of my way though, even with the fun Day of the Dead vibe.
