La Chagra in Medellín is truly a one of a kind experience. From the very beginning, the restaurant makes it easy to connect. They offer direct communication through WhatsApp, which is common in South America, but still something I always appreciate. It is a great way to ask questions, make reservations, and get quick answers. They were very responsive and helpful throughout.
This is not just a dinner, it is an experience. They are very clear about that. If you are going there simply to fill up, this is not the place for you. And that is exactly what makes it special. La Chagra is for people who genuinely want to experience authentic Amazonian cuisine made with pure, natural ingredients and rooted in tradition.
We did both the course tasting and the cocktail tasting. Everything was incredibly unique. The drinks were amazing and easily my personal highlight of the night. Creative, flavorful, and thoughtfully crafted, they truly stood out.
It is important to keep in mind that this is Amazonian food. The dishes are naturally seafood heavy, root based, and yes, even include insects. Do not expect chicken, and rightfully so. The menu stays true to the region and its traditions, which is part of the authenticity.
One of the most memorable parts of the evening was having the opportunity to meet the chef himself. That is something you do not often get, and it added a very personal touch to the experience.
Once again, if you are looking for a standard meal, this is not for you. But if you want a true cultural experience, complete with history, storytelling, and insight into the Amazonian people, this is absolutely for you. I would highly recommend La Chagra to anyone visiting Medellín, Colombia, or even South America for the first time.
Thank you to the entire team for such a special evening.
