La Chaumière

"In this elegant 21C century inn located on the outskirts of Dole, chef Joël Césari is continuing on his path as a nature lover, finding inspiration in local ingredients: vegetables, fruit, herbs, mushrooms and freshwater fish. His inventive cuisine varies depending on availability at the market of produce and fish: seared lake char, trap-caught lobster and a passionfruit and tarragon espuma, Bresse poularde in two courses, including a remarkable exotic take on this French classic. N.B. The fine dining restaurant is only open from Friday evening to Saturday evening; during the week, Bistro La Bagatelle takes over with a bistronomy menu offering good value for money." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed overnight en route from Switzerland to the Charente and had expected a wonderful experience; far from it...We were greeted by a reasonably friendly lady who showed us to the bottom of the stairs (was it too much to go to the room?). The room was down the end of a corridor with the most unpleasant smell of plastic in the corridor. We were surprised at how small the room was - there was little space to move and it was furnished in a most gaudy way with a hideous red plastic headboard and ugly huge light. The shower had not been cleaned for months and a wipe with the towel showed black dirt all in the tiles and corners. The WC was a small poky room, walls painted in dull light brown. We asked to see the menu before reserving a table and we were glad that we did as it was 149€ per person. We understand that this restaurant is a one star Michelin but they should cater for people who just want a basic meal. We slept ok despite the noise of doors banging in the evening. |In the morning we opted for the hotel's breakfast; this was served to us at our table. It consisted of an undercooked boiled egg (described as being slow cooked) watery juice, a basket of 2 pieces of bread and dry sweet bread, 2 jams, 2 yoghurts, pot of sugary stewed apple and darjeeling tea (breakfast tea unavailable). There was no fresh fruit, croissants or pastries, no cheese or ham and no cereals. We were given no choice at all and not offered a second cup of tea. Price for breakfast was 14€ each. I could have had a better breakfast visiting the boulangerie!|Positives were that our little dog was able to stay with us (at a supplement) and they did eventually found a plug adaptor for me so I could charge my toothbrush. |There is plenty of parking available at the property. The accommodation is set back from the road, so quite quiet. The pretty town of Dole is a drive away, not possible to walk but plenty of parking available there unless the circus and fair is in town!

We arrived late with a baby and a dog but couldn’t have been received with more kindness. From the front desk at reception who very kindly carried our dog up the stairs 🥰 to the restaurant that where everyone was beyond nice to our little baby girl and the dog. They even carried our deserts up to the room when the baby had to go to sleep. And everything with smiles and kindness. Oh and the food was just amaaazing !all in all a superb experience, I would have given more stars if I had the option!

We had an overnight stop in this charming hotel on our way to the Alps. A friendly welcome at the reception, and we were shown our room, which was quite small for 4, but we did not really need more. The kids bed was an ingenious bunk bed extracted from a sofa.||As we did not book the restaurant, we were told it was full, and we were proposed ham and cheese platters. The kids preferred going to a nearby restaurant. While going back down to leave, we stumbled across the Chef, and we had a pleasant chat with him. He convinced us effortlessly to have the platters, and we were seated at a terrace near the pool. The dinner was really nice, and it was truly the first evening of the holidays. And again the Chef paid us a visit, not only for the traditional 'Is everything all right?', but to chat.||The next morning we had a served breakfast, which was excellent.||I give this hotel only a 4* rating, as the rooms could be a bit larger, and while booking (directly with them), I really had trouble getting in touch, be it by e-mail or afterwards by phone.||Overall, a very good impression, good location, friendly staff, good food - we will be back at the next opportunity.

Lovely rooms and really comfy beds / bedding. Pay a little more for superior room. Michelin starred restaurant (see website for nights it’s open). Amazing breakfast. Slow cooked eggs will not appeal to everyone but very tasty. Looks like a nice pool in summer.

This is a review about the restaurant not the hotel. I think it would be fair to start that this is exactly the case when unprofessional service kills the impression of the entire evening with great food experience. We had dinner on August 26 at La Chaumière in Dole. At the entrance we were asked to leave jackets (5 pieces) with the hostess. Long story short, when we already had left the restaurant and by taxi arrived to the marina in another village, I realized that we had not taken our jackets. I called the restaurant, since the taxi had gone already, we agreed that next day, when we came back to home marina, I would take my car and return to the restaurant to pick up the things as we do not live in France and needed to return home on Aug 28. The restaurant was closing for vacation and we agreed that they would leave our jackets outside on the chair near the entrance. I came as agreed but there was no sign of our clothes in the place where we agreed (I made the pictures). I spent another 20 minutes trying to call, e-mail or find anybody else - but there were only out of office replies till September 5 and everything was locked. I was pretty disappointed but expected some active actions from a restaurant after September 5, it seemed logical that restaurant from Guide Michelin was expected to offer excellent or even impeccable service. No call or e-mail on September 5, I wrote back myself and the contact person said that they had our jackets and she did left the clothes, how could I had not found them. Which was certainly not true, I attached the photos and asked if they could send the clothes to Austria. Another person replied - «we wrote that we have your jackets». I repeatedly asked - can you send the clothes to Austria. No reply since then. What would I expect from a restaurant from the Guide Michelin? 1. Remind their guests about left clothes before leaving, if not 2. When I called in the evening, asked me about my location, probably one of the employees was returning home through our village and could drop the clothes (as you probably know the taxi in Burgundy is not easy to order quickly and it is quite expensive), if not 3. Certainly, deliver on agreed promises - leave the clothes next day as we agreed, if not 4. Admit the error, apologize and send the clothes to us, covering the delivery costs. I do believe these are easy and obvious steps that demonstrate high level of hospitality and respect to your clients.

This small hotel and restaurant is a real find for us! It's well situated just off the motorway route to the Swiss Alps. The accommodation is rather functional but perfectly comfortable; onsite parking is a plus but the cherry on the cake is the restaurant. Hats off to the chef - the cuisine is immaculate - well presented with some inventive flavors, and waiter service is friendly and professional. We hope to return again soon.

We stopped at this lovely design hotel for a few nights on our way to Spain and absolutely loved it! Its rooms are really beautiful and stylish, including the bath and shower. Wonderful material of high quality, beautifully chosen.||The Michelin-Star restaurant is a must. Wonderful food, wonderfully arranged. If the weather is nice you can sit in the beautiful garden. But the interior part of the restaurant is also really nice.||||The staff was great - always friendly and helpful.||We totally enjoyed it. Pass by, it's a lovely experience!! 🥰

The rooms are very nice: clean and the bed was comfortable. ||We called ahead a few days before to say we are vegetarians. They said there was no problem. The food was very good, but I got the feeling that for vegetarians they just left the meat or fish off the plate, so although the vegetables were very tasty and well made, the meal felt very light. We had to eat a lot of bread to ensure we didn't walk away hungry. For a one star Michelin they should be able to cater to all tastes. ||Also, it was a beautiful Summer's evening, so we were dining outside on the terrace. There is a beautiful garden, but unfortunately there was a wedding party, which went on until about 9.30pm. They then moved inside, but we could still here the party going on. Also the servers seemed overstretched, having to serve the wedding party as well as the diners. The people attending the wedding party walked through the dining area, and you could see they were enjoying themselves, which was great, but our meal was very expensive, and I felt that they should have either closed the restaurant to diners, or had a separate venue for the wedding party. We had to wear earplugs to sleep as the noise went on until the early hours. There were people sitting just outside our hotel room window.
