Carnívoro Grill Review - Bermondsey - London - The Infatuation

"True to its name, Carnívoro Grill is a place to come when you have a primal need for red meat. The South American grill restaurant in Bermondsey is from the same people as La Chingada and they take their grilling and their sauces seriously. A charred and reasonably priced rib-eye isn’t the chunkiest slab of beef in the world, but it is an expertly cooked one. It’s a place where drinks are encouraged to flow, and tables of friends pair giant frozen margaritas with lamb birria empanadas. Things on the side are something of a let-down: a limp and warm caesar with packet croutons, or straight out of the bag fries. But if an unadulterated focus on steak, ribs, and the occasional seafood skewer sounds alright, Carnívoro Grill will satisfy those cravings." - Jake Missing

London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Carnívoro is a meat-heavy Mexican restaurant in Bermondsey, from the people behind La Chingada. It’s all leather seats, bull’s horn logos, and bottles of red. As for the food, expect picanha skewers and plates loaded with chorizo, black pudding, sirloin steaks, rib-eye, and sweet breads. It’s a four-hour nap waiting to happen. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

It’s honestly a place that’s not bad, but it’s not spectacular either. I’d recommend adding a bit more sauce to the michelada — it would make it taste more unique and less plain. The green enchiladas were quite good, and the nachos didn’t disappoint. On the other hand, the birria tacos made with lamb weren’t really to my taste — I prefer the classic ones. But still, it’s a decent option if you’re craving some Mexican food.

Food was good! Cocktails really good! It’s not a steak house anymore but a classic Mexican which was a nice surprise! 4 stars instead of 5 as some tacos were a bit dry, needed something like pickles or acid to cut through. The lime was good but it needed more. Other than that, would go again.

Disappointed by the Experience – Poor Value and Dismissive Attitude. Disappointed by the Experience – Poor Value and Dismissive Attitude I recently visited La Chingada with high expectations based on local buzz, but unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. To begin with, the value for money is extremely questionable. I was charged £9 for two miniature tacos—barely more than a couple of bites each. When I raised concerns about the portion size and pricing, my feedback was met not with receptiveness, but with resistance and a dismissive tone. I was told, rather adamantly, that this was “economical” compared to other Mexican spots in the area. The policy of discontinuing burrito service after 5 p.m. was also perplexing staff stated it was “bad for business,” yet offered no alternative aside from rice, which could only be added as part of a £15 set meal. This rigid pricing structure feels more exploitative than accommodating. Additionally, the cleanliness of the venue was subpar. The tables were so sticky that lifting the laminated menu produced a peeling sound, and some of the ink actually transferred onto the table’s surface an unpleasant and avoidable hygiene issue. I’m always willing to support independent establishments, and constructive feedback should be part of that exchange. However, the overall experience here—marked by overpriced portions, inflexible service, and poor sanitation—makes it difficult to recommend La Chingada. I hope the management takes this as an opportunity to reassess their pricing, service policies, and customer engagement.

Delicious tacos ! The lamb birria and pastor tacos were especially good. Service was fast and friendly, very relaxed atmosphere.

Delicious Mexican Food – Can’t Wait to Go Back! I had such a great experience at this Mexican restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was relaxed, and the food completely blew us away. We started with the nachos, and they were hands down some of the best I’ve had—crispy, loaded with toppings, and packed with flavour in every bite. They disappeared fast, and we couldn’t resist ordering more! The tacos were equally amazing—fresh, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavour. Each one was better than the last, and we ended up ordering a second round because they were just that good. We also tried a couple of cocktails, which were tasty and well-balanced. The only small downside was that they were served as slushies, which made it hard to enjoy them fully without getting brain freeze. A more classic presentation would’ve made them even better. To make it an even better experience some traditional Mexican music and better table decorations would add to the nice atmosphere making it more welcoming. Overall, fantastic food, friendly service, and fun, Highly recommend if you're craving proper, tasty Mexican food!

We loved our experience at La Chingada. My family and I really enjoyed the food. Paula, our waitress, treated us very well. She's very friendly, kind and gave us some recommendations. We were very happy with her recommendations, especially the zocalo corn, which was one of my favorites. The music was great, so you could talk and hear the music perfectly. A recommended drink was the spicy mango margarita.

Really nice place, exactly what was missing from Bermondsey! Great - have been back many times now and continue to be impressed. Great food, nice atmosphere, music, colourful decoration and service. We had the prawn and octopus tostada, vegan pastor, alambre and asada quesadillas plus the churros and flan - were all excellent. But maybe the best are the sharing nachos? We probably have had almost everything on the menu and all is good.

*reviews older than november 2024 are from a different restaurant! Not the nee taco place* We have been to the other branch in Surrey quays of la chingada many times and wanted to scout out this new opening. The menu has either changed slightly or is different here from surrey quays (no burritos for example) but has still some of the classics that are so yummy alongside new things like enchiladas. We did try the enchiladas verdes on top of our usual order but didn't enjoy it as it felt very soggy and the green wasn't the bright green we had expected. That might just be us though and that might be exactly how it's supposed to be (we don't claim to be Mexican food connoisseurs) so overall it's still incredibly tasty. I recommend the chicken tostadas and the beef tacos these are my favourite (we ate them so quickly i didnt get pictures!). Also the layout of this branch is a lot nicer as opposed to the surrey quays one, service was just a bit slow and we didn't get any of the dishes together unfortunately but i expect this is due to having just opened and didn't heavily impact our experience (I saw other groups who did get dishes together so it probably isn't an issue :)). Will definitely come back!
