"La Chiva is the place to go after a long day of travel, or if you’re simply in the mood for some late night munchies. Perro caliente Colombiano — or, a Colombian hot dog — is the perfect drunk food. Homemade pineapple sauce, crispy potato chips, coleslaw, egg, bacon, ketchup, queso, and mayo are all piled on top of a beef hot dog. It is a lot; it is perfect. La Chiva Restaurant is open indoor dining, takeout, and delivery." - Tommy Ranucci

Nice stop for a quick grab and go. Food is hot and fresh.Needs a touch of better background music. Clean tables in and out (weather permitting)

Came here directly from the airport. They accept only cash no card payments. Had chicken, steak empanadas, Colombian hot dog, chicken wings, and fried raw banana Tostones. It was slightly difficult to communicate with the server because they spoke Spanish. Nevertheless, the place was lively at midnight and had outdoor sitting until midnight. The food was worth the price.

Google
Great food, they worked hard on a custom order and made sure it was correct. Well-priced good food.

. Place is open till 3am every day so it gets packed after the clubs close at 1 and 2 am. Food is ok the time being open. Good late night spot. I haven't tried much on the menu, the chicken tenders were ok. They have a lot of pre-made items for that time. If it's late night and you can't find somewhere to eat, make your way over. If it is during the day then give it a try and reply to this with your opinion.

Google

Google
Great authentic colombian food. Open very late

Google
Very good food but at the same time the spce to be there was very small and they have ropes to don't let you be confortable

Igor R.

Yelp
Not my favorite Colombian food in the area, but they're open late night, have friendly staff, and have a huge variety to pick from. It's all pretty yummy. I consider it a great "drunk food" spot, especially if you live within walking distance.

Marni M.

Yelp
My friends and I came on a late Saturday night. We were happily surprised to see a line of other customers already here. Their business is much deserved for all of their hard work. It was my first time trying a Colombian hot dog and I was not disappointed. It's huge and topped with pineapple, coleslaw, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and crushed potato chips. It may sound overboard but your tastebuds will be over the moon happy. We also got a few empanadas, fried cheese sticks (palitos?), and a few other grab n go items especially since it was down pouring that night. Definitely will be coming again!

Bhawan S.

Yelp
If you speak Spanish here it's a plus but otherwise the food is very good I get sandwiches it's a lot of handheld food.. burritos tacos sandwiches and little appetizers chicharron salami and other things definitely they're open late night if you're ever hungry that I think till 2:00 a.m.

Juan Carlos M.

Yelp
Exelente atención y servicio en el turno de la noche, la comida es rica y un sabor delicioso que nos transporta a nuestra patria.

Yelp
Amazing food! Good prices and perfect for a late nice snack! Really good Colombian food

Isaias B.

Yelp
There food is good but mad expensive especially in a suburban area they barely give you napkins or if u ask for sauce they only give you like what is this Burger King oh sir unfortunately we only can give one sauce if want another one is gonna cost money I didn't bother putting nothing on the tip jar honestly was the point there taxing like crazy I been to other hispanic. Restaurant I pay way less and get more food then what I get here don't get me started on the drinks just go to a nearby family dollar or dollar tree and pay for a bigger drink and paying double of barely a drink and a full cup of ice I'm straight

Elizabeth V.

Yelp
The steak and cheese and hot dog are bombbb ! I know steak and cheese is the last thing you would think they would sell but babbbby it's gewwwd

Yevhenii Y.

Yelp
The food are really good, I love it, Tamale was delicious, definitely come back here and I will bring my friends

SG Y.

Yelp
Empanada de queso, Empanada de pollo, y Empanada de carne with a black coffee made my day enough to keep me coming back for more

Ronald I.

Yelp
Happened upon this place while in East Boston and hungry enough for a snack. First time I tried food here it was raining heavily as I was hungry. As soon as you step in you're staring head-on with a delicious selection of hot and ready foods. Of course there are menu items to be ordered but all the fried treats in the window are almost too good to pass by. There's usually a line, and that's always a good sign. Hungry patrons crowd the dining hall to the left as the smell of their perfectly seasoned plates send salivating sensations wafting to the order-line to seduce soon to be satisfied customers. Beef empanadas are tender and juicy inside while the chicken turnovers are crisp, crunchy and golden brown and perfectly gooey inside... All for a few dollars. Food here is definitely fresh and done right. Recently I had takeout on a cooler day and nearly 20 minutes later it was still steaming hot. You're greeted by warm smiles and hometown hospitality. Their quick and friendly service is just right for a busy city like Boston. -Could not ask for more-

Daniela P.

Yelp
Great Food, I believe it is cash only. This is the best Colombian restaurant in the area.

Leung T.

Yelp
Late night food run! We arrived Boston @ 12:30am & checked into the airport hotel by 2am but was hungry. Drove around & except for a few Chinese Takeout places, this place was it. So we had the cheese steak (I think) & the roast beef. With sodas it was $17. The place was packed with locals at 2am & we all had to wait. It was worth it. Food is 4/5 but the price! Outstanding. The neighborhood is sketchy so put on you tough but friendly face & be a little load.

Katherine M.

Yelp
Wtf 7 dollar delivery ?? that's ridiculous, I literally live 7 minutes away in East Boston where the restaurant is and it's 7$??? Yeah no.

Chris P.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and awesome, authentic, Colombian food at very reasonable prices. I've gone by the restaurant for a few years but never went inside and I regret all the time lost. Will definitely be coming back here. I got a chicken burrito, an empanada, and one of their mango fresh juice drinks. I thought the fresh juice drink was a bit small but everything else was fantastic. There were so many types of food to try behind the glass display, and all of it looked delicious. There's a surprisingly large amount of seating that is not visible from outside. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, so it's great if you want to enjoy your food outside. Overall super impressed, 5/5.

G R.

Yelp
They only do cash. I don't know about this place, it's kind of shady but the food is greasy. It's probably a great place if you're a stoner going around Eastie looking for munchies at 12 AM but I have had better Colombian fast food elsewhere and I can't say much for their customer service which there isn't any at all : P

Chris P.

Yelp
Excellent Spanish good at a fantastic price! We came here for breakfast on a Sunday, just looking for something easy and delicious in our neighborhood. We hit gold! If you are in Eastie and need a quick bite, make sure this is a stop of yours. Best arepas we've had in a long time, and everyone this is very friendly.

Crispetas R.

Yelp
Waited in line for 10 minutes. The counter clerk took care of her friend who cut the line ( while smiling about the wrong doings) making the situation irritable and uncomfortable. I left hungry and upset. The food is ok and the service is mediocre at its best.

Yadira F.

Yelp
Worst place I've ever been too. They steal your money. They charged 12 dollars more a total of 35 dollars. Will never be back here again very bad customer service. El peor lugar que e visitado. Le roban su dinero me cobro 12 dolares demas un total de 35 dolares. Nunca regresare Las cajeras son repugnantes servicio al cliente fatal.

Beatriz M.

Yelp
The customer service here is great. They always try to get your order as fast as they can. I've only had one bad incident, where I ordered a lot of things to go, and a few things were missing in my bags. That's partly my fault for not checking the bags, but it happens. Other then that, they're opened late, so if you're hungry for fast food late at night, this is a great option.

Michael ..

Yelp
Amazing fried food in East Boston. I wouldn't go anywhere else for it. Quick, professional service!

Joe B.

Yelp
Im not sure what Colombian restaurants others here have eaten at, but this is a bottom of the barrel place, the most of the food is dry and flavorless, arepas are dry(over cooked) and the empanadas tasted like they sat around for an hour in a grease bath, chuzos were dry and flavorless, even the potatoes were soggy and over cooked. Prices increase on a whim, the folks working the counter are rude, and have no issues with taking an order from "spanish" people and skipping ahead of you (too bad they are ignorant enough to think others don't speak spanish). Im sure at drunken hours, knowing its one of like 3 places open in Boston makes it taste good, you should pass. There are much better options most of the day then here.

Sanchon D.

Yelp
I usually hit this place up when all other options are closed. Not because of the quality of the service nor food. Quite the opposite. The food is great but their chicken empanada/patelles is not seasoned to my favor. It's is also a bit more expensive which is fair given that the size of some of then snack are larger than other pastelerias. The intersection where the restaurant sits is at semi busy intersection but if you are in the area late night, it's the place to be.

Michael C.

Yelp
I stopped by because we wanted to try some empanadas in East Boston. La Chiva is centrally located in East Boston and makes a great landmark for giving directions too. I would classify this place as authentic Latin American fast food. The empanadas were what we expected. I also got some Colombian soda too. Prices are very reasonable too.

Ivy P.

Yelp
Tasty fried pastries. The beef empanada and chicken turnover are covered with extra crunchy corn flour. Yuuuuum. And the cheese ball, out of this world. But don't get the Colombian hotdog. It was kinda gross. Sad, bland, not beed hotdog. Sure it's sprinkled generously with crushes potato chips, but that didn't help. There was also a random boiled quail egg on it. The rice place are delicious though. So basically everything else but the hotdog.

Jerry J.

Yelp
Food is very tasty for sitting out in heat lamps. You will be charged much more if you do not speak Spanish. Just a heads up. See it happen all the time.

Robert G.

Yelp
Very Good .. I had fried fish early on a Saturday morning... you know, that way I could have the day to burn it off it was good

Matt V.

Yelp
Yum Cheap Late

Ashley L.

Yelp
I would love to give this place no stars but that is not an option. I was putting my order in last night at the counter I asked the cashier how much the total was mid order just to ensure I had enough cash on me (it is cash Only) ordered a few more empanadas, thought for a second. My husband grabbed my hand off the counter as I went to grab cash from my purse and we both witnessed a fairly large cockroach crawl right across the counter. We both saw it, I'm sure the cashier witnessed it, I looked up and asked her to cancel the order and walked out immediately with my family in tow. I understand restaurants deal with pests but if there are roaches crawling around in a busy environment clearly they need to exterminate.

Josizzle ..

Yelp
Not bad, got the steak and cheese combo for only $6. Empenadas are only a dollar. Good deal for the low!? CASH ONLY!!!

Zhuofan Z.

Yelp
The food was fine, especially the cheese roll. The cheese ball had no visible cheese and I didn't get its point, but the chorizo was on point. A nice place for breakfast if you don't mind the calories.

Josselyn C.

Yelp
The Picada is not worth it here don't waste your time. Online it says it's 14 but when you pick it up it's actually 25. For the amount of food they give you it's not worth it. They give you the amount of a regular dish. Pay 25 dollars at another place where they will give you a decent amount of food.

E W.

Yelp
4/5 for the beef empanadas. Minus 1 star for overcharging me. The sign read $1.50 per empanada. I ordered 8 and the total somehow came to $16 when it should have been $12+tax. They also did do not give a receipt.

Guillermo C.

Yelp
Open late, great tasting Colombian food. Always hits the spot. Highly recommend the palito de queso, el chicharrón, the Colombian hot dog, and the empanadas. Those are my go to items that never disappoint

Kathe T.

Yelp
My top pick for late night eats in Boston. The food- arepas, chorizo, delicious looking "Colombian" hot dogs with all the fixings (damn the gluten filled roll)- hits that special spot better than any other 2am option in the greater Boston area. The staff is friendly and quick to satisfy. **cash only**

Makayla T.

Yelp
It's a good go to place to eat but often takes very long for ALOT of the food but these people work really hard so I get it

Kathy B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I just moved into the neighborhood I found this little gem on the corner of my street. After a long day of unpacking we needed something to eat and what better place to eat than the neighborhood restaurant? The cute ladies at the counter spoke limited English. It took a few tries to get the order in. While I waited for my tacos to be made, I checked out the food in the glass display. They had freshly made chicharrones, empanadas, fried plantains, among some other delicious snacks. I got some chicharrones and a couple of empanadas to munch on while I waited. Ooooooh man!!! The chicharrones were crunchy and delicious! They also have a good selection of fresh juices. I ordered a cup of maracuya (that is passion fruit for those who don't speak Spanish). It was not overwhelmingly sweet and refreshing. ------------ We recently discovered their breakfast food selection. I recommend their desayuno americano (the american breakfast). For a meager $7, you get a generous portion of eggs, toast, and some very delicious Latin-inspired home fries. Ever since we moved in, my boyfriend and I have been back countless times. It's became our go-to place when we don't feel like cooking after a long day at work. My boyfriend always tips a dollar or two because the food is so cheap we always feel like we're stealing.

Paul N.

Yelp
A Colombian roadside luncheonette. The menu has all the classic Colombian fare one might expect:: empenadas, bunuelos, pollo frito, perro Colombiano, tropicalies, etc. Problem is the quality is just not there. The food was lackluster and not fresh and piping hot. It didn't seem they had a fast enough turnover and fried chicken and chicharos were just lying around the place getting soggy and wilted. Great idea, weak execution.

Leyani L.

Yelp
I have seen, tasted and been to better spots in East Boston. This hole might be open until late, 1am in the morning late but the food is super greasy and unhealthy. Everything is hard, tasteless and stiff after 9pm. I would not recommend anything out of their solid food menu. A juice, ice cream or sweet maybe but the rest of the food will destroy your stomach.

Julio S.

Yelp
-Delicious -Awesome juice selection -Open super late

Lewis G.

Yelp
I'm from San Diego so I have a very high standard for latin staples such as chicharonnes or empanadas... This place has dank 3$ chicharrones that come in a fried, twisted strip, nice and hot. Super crunchy and meaty and bomb. they have dank mayo sauce (crema) to put on everything too. I've gotten the philly cheese steak as well, pretty bomb. Another thing I like about this place is the drinks = horchata, jamaica, mango, any kind of latin juice u could think of. Not as fresh of juices as I am used to in SD, but still good.

Tasty Bee Review S.

Yelp
It's cheap. And they stay open till 3 am. That's the only good thing. I didn't like the quality of tacos. The tortilla (bread) falls apart right away. I didn't enjoy the taste of meat/sauce. I will not go there again. I am sorry.

Liliana G.

Yelp
the restaurant's food is not bad, but the place is in very bad condition, dirty, and the restaurant's chairs in poor condition, have no respect for the customers attending in such a place.

jim v.

Yelp
Low cost and lots of flavors - ice creams WOW talk about a good bargain, my family and i enjoyed 3 large ice-creams for $3 Dollar's i could not believe it. Pistachio for my wife, rum raisin for me, and the traditional vanilla for my daughter. If you love exotic flavors but don't want to go far- visit la chiva located in East Boston, MA THANKS STAFF our favorite summer hang out for ice-cream.

Angela P.

Yelp
Went there for the $1 scoop icecream with some friends. Place smelled a little funky. Lady was nice who gave us icecream and rang us up. Never had the food but maybe one day. Apparently they are open really late so might be making a trip there after a drinking night.

Marissa L.

Yelp
Nice late night spot. Very reasonable prices. I usually get a steak and cheese which comes with fries for 6bucks . The chicken there is dehydrated (when you see it you'll know what i mean) but good and crispy even though theres barely any meat in the bones. The salami and plantano with the cheese in the middle is good also. Always ask for salsa picante & salsa rosada! Yum

Corey H.

Yelp
A friendly, reliable, late night, early morning, go-to for some fresh-fried junk food. Be ready for a mix of people from all walks of life in all languages. The place is hoppin' all hours (I've never seen it closed) and it feels like a dance party could break out at any second. Its good to know when you're feeling down and low, you've always got a bright sunshiney-yellow place to go...La Chiva!

Ailene R.

Yelp
I love Colombian food so when I'm in the area and looking for a quick bite to go, this is where I like to drop in. I don't particularly like to sit in as it is small and compact (it would be great if they had more seating arrangements) but prices are reasonable and food is pretty authentic. It's especially the best after hours. Having a spot to go is a life saver!

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Mmmm! I love their colombian food here. especially their empanadas with the pink sauce.

Gita N.

Yelp
The food looked sad and the people don't speak English very well, which is okay but when I told them in Spanish sin carne they still didn't understand no meat or what vegetarian was. The food looks all deep fried and like it has been sitting for a while-not appetizing!

Renato D.

Yelp
Fresh food and the ice cream is very inexpensive. The store is clean and very friendly. It is well lit and plenty of tables. They have a salad to die for. The place is very friendly. Prices very inexpensive. Plenty of parking.
