Where to Taste Mezcal in Mexico City

"La Clandestina, located between the Condesa and Roma Norte neighborhoods, is a must-visit mezcaleria in Mexico City. It offers a wide range of artisan mezcal options sourced from around Mexico. The interior features a glowing hot pink wall with mezcal barrels. The cocktail list incorporates Mexican flavors, and patrons can order mezcal flights. Snacks include tacos, fondues, and tlayudas, with optional grasshoppers." - Lauren Mowery

La Clandestina | Bon Appétit

"GO: for a night of mezcal, curated and served by La Clandestina’s highly knowledgeable staff. Don’t be intimidated: It’s a great for first timers, as well as mezcal experts. ORDER THE: many unique and obscure varieties of mezcal, straight up. They come served with sliced oranges dusted with chili and a bowl of addictively salty roasted pumpkin seeds, thank you very much. If you need to ease in with a cocktail first, go with one of the avocado ones, creamy and sweetened with a little blackberry. THE VIBE IS: at first, unassuming. The entrance is an unremarkable storefront, but follow the wall of glowing pink mezcal barrels and, inside, it’s moody with a dimly lit bar and low, intimate tables set in every corner. Trust us, once you’re there you won’t want to leave. PRACTICAL STUFF: Open Monday, 6 p.m. to midnight, Tuesday to Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., and Thursday to Saturday, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Closed Sunday. —Molly Baz" - Condé Nast

This was a cute cocktail bar, the drinks are good, but nothing special. We ordered the mussels and oysters thinking they would be fresh but they came in a can marinated - it was honestly awful. I’m not a picky eater, but it tasted old and would not recommend it. If you are going to get food, get the chicharron tacos, which were very good and crunchy. We also did the Mezcal tasting and the Eneldo mezcal was not great - it smelled and tasted what you would think laundry detergent with alcohol would taste like. Our mezcal favourites were Madrecuishe and Arroqueno. The staff were friendly.

Google
I am not someone that knows my mezcal so maybe take my review with a grain of salt? Was that punny? Because they put salt on the rims of the cocktails. Maybe? I hope so. My husband and I really enjoyed this place the first time we came so we've returned a couple more times and always have a wonderful time. It is probably our favorite bar in the world, but we also don't get out a lot, so maybe take that with a grain of salt too. We haven't mustered up the courage to try their mezcals, but we really enjoy their mezcal cocktails. By far, our favorite is the hoja santa. It's got macerated kiwi and just the right amount of sweet and mezcal balance. It is probably the best cocktail I've ever had. The aquacate is a close second, with a bit more sweetness to it and incredible pops of fruity flavor. The other house cocktails on their menu - habanero, pepino and jamaica are also very good. I like the spiciness of the habanero. I also like that they give you a little complimentary cricket in the jamaica. Service has always been very attentive and friendly despite our terrible Spanish. It's a wonderful place.

Google
Good goes first: Good music, ambiance, decoration, it's an amazing place. Now the not so good part: Prices are crazy, mezcal is awesome but let's be honest, it's not that expensive. The service was basically non existing and we were there on Monday, I can't even imagine how it is on Saturday. We were planning to stay the whole night there but at the end we had just one shot.

Google
Small mezcalaria but great place for a quick drink! I asked the waiter for his recommendation for a sweet tasting mezcal cocktail and got an avocado based drink.

Google
My family of 8 and I stayed in Mexico city for over a week and his was surprisingly our favorite activity, unanimously. The servers spoke a little bit of French and fluent English. They walked us through the menu and the Mezcal tasting with ease. It was welcoming and comfortable for our parents, our 20-year old sister, and our 9-month old son. We saw people there for a Bachelor party, an intimate date night, and a relaxing girls night. The atmosphere and staff really lend itself to working for everyone. The space itself was also very beautiful! Would HIGHLY recommend!

Google
Our waiter was so kind and informative. I’m not fully fluent in Spanish, but he still gave me and my girlfriend a full explanation of every mezcal we ordered for the tasting (so I gathered some details about each drink). The mezcal tasting was great and u can spilt the tasting glasses with others (I’m not sure if other places do the same thing). We also had esquites with grasshoppers. Interesting experiences and an amazing vibe, loved our waiter.

Google
Great spot with an amazing mezcal list! Jorge was incredibly kind and walked me through so many different mezcals. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable. It was a highlight of my time in CDMX. Will definitely be back! Big shout out to Jorge for all the guidance!

Google
0/5 stars of possible. Read all the one stars before going here. They are dead on, walked in right at opening when it was completely empty. Took them 30 mins to finally take our order and then another 20 to get the drinks out. Service is trash here the place should even be allowed to operate. The back room area is like a jail cell with how small and cramped it is. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE A PLAGUE if you're looking for a good time or even basic service.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite spots when i was in Mexico City! Why? I was introduced to new foods that I thoroughly enjoyed. Since me and my boyfriend weren't too hungry we just order some items to share but mostly wanted to originally try the flight of mezcal. What did we get? Our flight of mezcal was good- we discovered some new likes but the food items were the true MVPs for me. We tried the guacamole with grasshopper - yes it might be too much if you're not adventurous but if you're open to it.. I'd say try it. It was delicious for us! It added additional textures to a well balanced guacamole. The other item we tried that I really enjoyed were the tlayuda. It's a handmade dish in traditional Oaxacan cuisine, consisting of a large, thin, crunchy, partially fried or toasted tortilla. I'm a texture girly so that thin crunchy tortilla was chefs kiss! We sat outside by the front door so we didn't get a chance to check out the vibe inside but it was nice evening so we wanted to people watch on the busy streets. I will definitely be coming back here next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Such a great bar with a pleasant ambiance. The drinks were delicious, we loved the Jamaica, pepper leaf, and cucumber cocktails. We felt they were priced well too compared to some of the other bars in the neighborhood. Service was friendly and they even had a DJ come in to mix some tunes later in the evening. Would 100% come back next time I'm in the city

Yelp
Went in around 10 pm on a Thursday night, very busy ambiance, good crowd good music and I had the pepino cocktail and the rib eye tacos so delicious my hubby got the tlayuda which was super good! Good and atmosphere was great Only complaint was service is a little slow

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -La Clandestina is a place to go if you are into mezcal. -They have a nice, big selection of smoky mezcal to your liking. -They also serve some really good food to pair w/ your drinks. -There is both outdoor and indoor seating. -I really like the hospitality by the door guy, he was very nice. Overall, if you are in the Condesa area looking for a chill spot to kill a couple hours, you should think about coming here.

Yelp
craving an overpriced, but delicious mezcal drink? this is the place for you. despite the high prices, the unique pairings of various mezxcals with fresh ingredients and juices are a great choice. my friend and i each had one and we sat outside. its very pretty outside and love the decor, really adds to the ambiance and the calming nieghborhood. would come back for sure. its a great place to have a drink before dinner or a date. easily a calm, but tasty bar to have a delish drink and talk with a friend.

Yelp
Great bar for a quiet drink with a close friend. Inside it's dark and romantic, outside more lively and public. Cocktails are creative and deliver a unique experience. We sampled their: - spicy margarita with mezcal. - avocado cocktail - kiwi cocktail with herbs All were finely crafted and delivered enjoyment. Friendly and helpful service.

Yelp
Place is amazing! The Jamaica drink with grasshoppers is fantastic as is that pepper leaf drink. We came here because someone said the food is orgasmic. I would totally agree! The ribeye tacos were soooo good.

Yelp
I recently traveled to Mexico City with a friend and found this spot thanks to Yelp. Condesa / Roma Norte is a neighborhood of Mexico City that boasts more in common with Brooklyn, Austin, or Silverlake than most of the US or surrounding areas of Mexico. This bar sits near Hotel Condesa, which is essentially the Mexico City version of the Ace Hotel brand across the US. My friend wasn't feeling up for a drink, so I decided to drop in my last night in town anyway. I can't recall ever having gone to a bar on my own, but I figured there were plenty of artsy locals, European, or American travelers to people watch. Was happy I came out; the bar's outdoor seating is covered in foliage, and there were cozy areas to consume a cocktail before leaving Mexico City. Having been told I couldn't leave town without sampling the various forms of Mezcal, I admitted to my server (HORACIO) that I had never previously been a fan. Thankfully, he did not judge! He gave a sampling of recommendations, and made great suggestions. As a tourist, it can be reasonable to expect to be treated with some disdain or attitude, but in general Mexico City seems to have friendly folks, and Horacio was no exception! I would return to this bar in a heartbeat. I joked that both locals and 'gringas' like myself would have a nice time here. Enjoyed my cocktail, taste of Mescal, and the friendly service on my final evening of my trip. My spanish ability is also very subpar, and the staff more than compensated for my deficiency. Thanks, La Clandestina and Horacio!

Yelp
Fun and laid back cocktail bar. This is a great spot for some mezcalitos and bites. It's a small place and the inside is kept dark and has small tables but has an intimate vibe to it. They do have some outdoor tables which would probably be better if you're in a bigger group and if the weather is nice out. The cocktails are so good and unique. The food is typical Oaxacan food.

Yelp
What a sexy place!!! We stayed in CDMX for a week and this was the bar we liked the most. The Mezcal selection was incredible, the food was unique and delicious and the service was wonderful! Plus, the patio made for a wonderful people watching experience. We were actually so blown away by it that we returned for our last night in Mexico City. And l'm so glad we did! The second time we visited we sat inside. WHAT A VIBE!!! The lighting, the brick interior, the hidden rooms, the artwork and the neo soul/hip hop music makes for an AMAZING ambiance. Come here if you wanna be turned on :)
google avatar

Nikki S.

Yelp
Mezcal everything. I only like mezcal as a cocktail and they had some good ones that made mezcal palatable. If you go and there is a avocado one, get it if you like sweeter drinks. It's good!
google avatar

Yelp
fun chill vibe..very rustic and laid back ...the service was spotty and rather frenetic, at times. The tables outside are really comfortable and fun to people watch..there was a dog rescue (runaway dog) during our visit. When the owner was found and they were reunited, the entire bar clapped. It was magical. Go for the mezcal, dress warm ...

Yelp
NOT, where the pin says it is. Its Across the street from La pescaderia. Use the pin on Apple maps, they have it spot on. To note: If I had to describe my experience here Id say its a cross of that one song that tickles your sex organ when it plays, and when you get an amazon package you forgot you ordered. EVERYTHING about this place is excellent. The dark lounge style vibe adds to the chill environment. Its like a speakeasy without all the pretentious douche baggyness. The small tapas style plates pack large plate flavor. If you like excellent drinks, underground mezcal and mouth orgasm food then let your ass connect with one of the seats in La Clandestina.

Yelp
This place is a hard pass for me. Came here since we saw so many rave reviews on Yelp. As we arrived we were told to seat ourselves at one of the tables outside. Then we waited and waited with no service. After waiting 20-25 minutes we finally were able to flag our waitress down. She told us if we wanted to sit at a table we would need to order food. (There was no mention of this anywhere, but still complied with the rules. The drinks took another 30 minutes or so to arrive and they screwed up the order. My friend just took the wrong drink since she was afraid to have to wait another 30 minutes while watching us drink our drinks. The drinks were nothing special, and definitely not worth the wait. The prices you are paying are very expensive to receive this crappy service :( We won't be back & I'd suggest you think twice before visiting this establishment.

Yelp
Horrible service. And communication was not good with staff. The food here is not great. The drinks were ok.

Yelp
Great Mezcal, great food, and a unique design! Can not wait to be back My boyfriend and I had to buy a bottle of Mezcal to bring back home and share with family

Yelp
What a disappointment Really was looking forward to visiting a Mezcalaria and this place was heartily recommended by Bon Apetit and NY Times. I understand there was a language difficulty but I was confused by the pricing of a mezcal flight and the rude bartender walked away never to return. Not once did he return see if we were okay. He did chase us out of the bar asking for a tip . I then asked to speak to the manager who was very nice and seemingly apologetic. Beautiful place but never again

Carleigh J.

Yelp
Stopped by this spot for a drink, but stayed to try the classic guacamole with grasshoppers. If you are feeling daring worth the try, they remind me of toasted pumpkin seeds, but obviously not as crunchy. The location is quite the vibe. Service is great. Would recommend if you're looking for something low-key.

Yelp
We got seated outside at first bc they were just setting up the bar, then asked to move inside and the vibe was totally different. The decoration felt satanic and I was not a huge fan. We tasted a few mezcals based on the bartender's recommendation and they were interesting but all terrible. Of the four, I liked Espadin 54 the best which was supposed to be the "original" taste. We also tried Papalome Lima, Espadin Cacao and the Unique Edition. I didn't really like any of them and thought they tasted cheap and difficult to drink. One nice thing was that the server spoke English and seemed to know a lot but not sure if I'd want to be back again.

Yelp
This was the perfect place to bring our friend to take advantage of all the great mezcales Mexico has to offer. It's a small, dark, and intimate atmosphere. Perfect for slow drinking that beautiful liquid of love. ayyyy!!! The service when we went was a little slow, considering the place was small and crowded. The wait time for a table for 3 was around 30 mins. It wasn't bad for a group of 3 or less, anything more and you'll have to wait for a while. Luckily, you can drink your mezcal out front of the bar. The cocktails were really good too and they only had two kinds of beer on hand. Overall, this place was awesome and I'd even go alone to enjoy a shot or 10. Your bound to make friends and everyone is their for a good time.

Tracy L.

Yelp
Great spot in a fun neighborhood. Excellent selection of craft mezcals. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Yelp
Best cocktails in all of Mexico City! I said it and I mean it. The ingredients are fresh organic and amazing to say the least. I ordered two separate cocktails both of which were truly delicious. Both cocktails had mezcal but both tasted completely different. Btw this is a mezcal year lace point blank period. I had the Pepino cocktail which was a cucumber and ginger cocktail. It was so refreshing and the ginger was fresh and tasty. The leaf in the drink which may have been pine or mint also was fresh smelled great and added flavor to the cocktail. The second cocktail I had was the habanero. This was a red and spicy drink. The rim was covered in a spicy Chile and salt mix which went really well with the drink. What surprised me the most was the food here. Not a huge menu but what they do serve is made well and taste great. I had the talyuda with rib eye steak. It was the perfect late might food to go with my drinks. The habanero salsa at this place is probably the best I have had in all of Mexico defectively addicting. I would recommend this place for those that love good drinks. It gets packed after about 9/10 and it's small so maybe come earlier if you want to avoid waiting.

Yelp
Quaint, sexy, enticing. This spot does hold its own when it comes to cocktails and mezcal. They are not just creative combinations of different bitters for the sake of creating something unique, they are some of the tastiest drinks I've had in years. There is extreme attention that people put into the craft and appreciation of Mezcal here, something that is nearly impossible to experience anywhere else in the world. It is in line with my other observations of Mexico City, where I constantly see a desire to take something traditional and ancient, put it under a microscope and focus on enhancing it, creating new things with it and upping the quality in ways that have not been sustainable in the past. In the case of La Clandestina, that focus element is mezcal itself and the results of this experimentation are truly magical.

Matthew K.

Yelp
Started off okay. At first waiters seemed nice. However, it went downhill after we put in our orders. We received drinks 1 at a time. Kept telling them drinks were missing and they were not put in. We ended up trying to cancel them and they kept saying they were making them. Several minutes pass and they were still taking unuasually long. Once we tried to close our tab, they added extra drinks based on number of people seated and not on what we ordered. Argued with us that we were in the wrong. Trying to be very truthful in this review and it really seemed that the waiters were on something. They were not all there and very jittery. Not sure if that was the reason for the poor service.

Patricia A.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Definitely do not recommend. We were really looking forward to our outing here but we unfortunately the waitress ruined our experience.

Ezra S.

Yelp
Such a bad experience. We arrived and were barely attended to. It was not until we said something three times that they wanted to get our drinks started. We left shortly after. Most likely won't go back.

Yelp
Totally one of my favorite places in Mexico City now. Stopped here at the end of a long day of doing (and drinking) stuff, so I only got a chance to try a couple things, but what I did try was excellent, and it's just such a *cool* place. It is also tiny. When I arrived, around 9 PM on a Saturday, they said they were totally full and it'd be about a 15 minute wait - but then when they noticed there were only two of us, they changed their mind and let us sit right in the entrance, which was actually kind of a great place to sit, because you got a full view of one of the coolest things about the place, the fact that their mezcal isn't commercially bottled, it arrives in numbered vats, which are in full view up over the bar, and basically means you could say they have 20-something mezcals "on tap".) I was thinking the pictures posted at the front of the list of pictures on yelp were of decorative bottles, but nope - those bottles all have mezcal in them, and are hanging in the front. :) Once I'd figured out the menu (a page of cocktails, then the rest is a numbered list of the mezcals they have, just labeled by who made it), I started with a cocktail, the Hoja Santa, for about 8 bucks US. It arrived pretty much immediately after ordering, and was totally delicious. Tasted like a mezcal margarita, but a really excellently-prepared one that was full of delicious, definitely high quality mezcal, and a lot of basil flavor, and garnished with a nice bit of fresh basil on top. I'd totally get that again if I were back in the area (though I'd get others, first, because duh, I would've liked to try everything. Sadly, I was pacing myself. Next time! If it hasn't gotten too popular by then.) At this point, I was ready to try some mezcal. I wasn't quite how it worked, so I started asking, and then they went and got the apparently one guy who speaks a good amount of English as opposed to "a little bit", which was very much appreciated - hopefully that guy is always there ;). So how it works is, you describe what you're looking for, then they tell you which numbers they think you'll like. How it *also* works, or at least how it worked for us, is if you indicate you're here because you want to find a mezcal you want to bring home, which was absolutely true, and I wasn't expecting this, but it was very much appreciated... I said that and they gave me a few tastes (much smaller than a whole pour of each, but that was perfect, since my goal was "taste", not "get drunk off mezcal".) So I got to try 3 of their smokiest mezcals (one wasn't quite smoky enough for me, one had a weird almost cheesy side-flavor, but one was just completely gorgeous.) So I got a proper pour of that one to savor right then, for 80 pesos, and it was just as fantastic as I remembered, so I brought a bottle home - 500ml for 780 pesos (a little pricey, but worth it - it was a really highly quality mezcal, and one you can't get anywhere else except here or straight from the source!). They poured it into an unlabeled 500ml jar, then labeled it on the spot. If I lived in Mexico City, this would be my *place* (well, one of them). Oh, I also got to try a free sip (*a* sip, obviously, but still super cool of them) of one of their splurgier things - a mezcal that had then been aged like an aged rum. It really did taste exactly like that - like good mezcal that has then been treated like good aged rum. It was delicious, but a bit too splurgey. If I were rich, though, I would totally have bought a bottle (heck, if I were rich, I would've just gone down the list, tried everything, then probably ended up with half a dozen bottles. ;)) And yes, the name is accurate - we walked right by, twice, before figuring out where it was (it doesn't help that it's right next door to another bar, that *does* have a name out in front.)
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
We came here solely to try the extensive list of mezcals they had on tap. There are many different agave plants and each plant creates a distinct mezcal flavor. Friendly service and cool vibes in the back.
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
It's a boogie hippie little bar. If you want to find Berkeley or Santa Cruz type of people here's the spot because their hella hipsters. It's dark and has a certain odor, probably due to the hippie like folks. The drinks were good though!
google avatar

Keerti P.

Yelp
One of the highlights of Mexico City! Mezcalarias are such a fun idea, and La Clandestina does it right. The place is super cute, dark, and has a beautifully lit wall full of mezcal barrels. It is "unplotable" on the map, so that also adds to the fun- makes it feel like a prohibition type speakeasy. The Mezcal is served surrounded by orange slices, with a hint of chili powder. Really adds to the experience, and a good palate cleanser between types of mezcal.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
On our first night in Mexico City we came across this little bar on Yelp and decided to try it out for the mezcal! We found a little table by the door and had the nicest waitress who spoke perfect English. Much to my surprise, they had a few different vegetarian options on the menu! We ordered a few different items, tacos (for my boyfriend), street corn, and one other vegetarian item I cannot remember the name of! All of it was delicious and we enjoyed our late night dinner/snack. The environment was very fun! I felt comfortable wearing just jeans and a casual shirt. At times, different guys were walking around playing drums trying to get tips. We didn't mind the free music/entertainment. As far as the mezcal, this was my first time trying it and I really enjoyed it! If I came back to the Condesa area I would for sure make a stop back here!

Megha M.

Yelp
A friend recommended La Clandestina to us before our CDMX trip, and it was a fun stop. It's a nice bar but it was so crowded on a Friday night and probably took us around 30-40 minutes to get our drink. It's also really expensive. It looks like a bar that could belong in LA or SF and has a cool, trendy vibe. If that's what you're looking for, it's definitely worth checking out. For me, it was too touristy and I didn't go to Mexico to feel like I was back in LA so I wouldn't personally recommend it if you're trying to really experience Mexico City.
google avatar

Sally L.

Yelp
After visiting Mexico City a few months ago, I kept on feeling guilty I didn't leave a review for La Clandestina. So, here I am: fulfilling my duty to ensure fellow Yelpers make their way to this sacred mezcal haven. So what's so great? - speakeasy-like feel; dark, intimate, mysterious - their well-crafted mezcal cocktails - the BEST I've had in Mexico City - a good selection of mezcal cocktails for every palette; refreshing, fruity, stirred, (I particularly LOVED the blackberry & guacamole one) So... what's the catch? - gotta admit their bathroom situation was too tight for me hah.. could use an expansion - easy to miss cause the signage is discrete Whether you want to give mezcal a shot or you're a die-hard fan, make sure to stop by!

Yelp
Great spot for mezcal and mezcal cocktails. Very small space and a bit hole in the wall. Perfect for a chill evening. Complimentary pumpkin seeds to snack on while you sip. Mezcal is a little too strong for my on its own, but they have absolutely divine cocktails. I had their seasonal (I think) Santa something which was smoky and sweet with a piece of kiwi. The wait can be quite long, I'd recommend coming close to opening time for a pre meal drink. They also do have a disclaimer on their menu that during busy times you may have to wait 20ish minutes for a drink! I would definitely go back next time I'm in CDMX!
google avatar

Vanessa V.

Yelp
A speakeasy like bar in CDMX, what can get better than that !? Place was packed and the vibe was chill. Good place to try if you love mezcal cocktails.
google avatar

Monica C.

Yelp
Good spot - quiet and pretty dark. it is very small and rather understaffed, so expect a wait (to be seated, to order, to be served, to pay, etc). However, the food and drinks are super worth it. They have a large selection of mezcal and of mk used drinks as well and everything I tried was very good. Good spot for a date or like a quiet night out, but don't come in a big group because there truly isn't space - even in a small table you are kind of sitting on top of the table next to you.

Yelp
Coolest bar ever with the best drinks and late night menu! We stumbled on this place while just walking down the street. The decor is super cool, it seemed like a cocktail bar you would see on TV! The only downside is it's really dark so reading the menu was very difficult. Then we had the most amazing server. He was so nice, gave us a ton of refs for dancing. Lastly, the food menu for late night was bomb! The sandwich was delicious and paired nicely with my super cute cocktail.

Yelp
Funky hipster ghetto crowded little place with good old disco playing and all sorts of funky mezcal. Had the 10 18 and 22 and loved the 18 the most. Smelled like a trash fire. Wish this place was in dtla; it'd fit right in and be a hit.

Yelp
Try the Jamaica mezcal, it's quite yummy. The place gets quite crowded so when I went my friends and I had to squeeze into a small table. The server took forever to approach us and even longer to bring our drinks. The experience was also ruined a bit by the obnoxious hipster/frat boys that were crowding the other table trying to sing "my heart goes on". Otherwise the place had a nice cozy ambience.

Yelp
Pretty great mescal bar with a great selection, outdoor seating, and a sister restaurant next door. Place gets pretty popular on the weekends, so if you want a seat, get there early. If not, there's a ton of other restaurants and bars nearby.

Yelp
La Clandestina is a trendy, dark tequila and food bar restaurant that has cool lit up decor, adventurous appetizers, and good food. We came on a Saturday night and place was busy and there were lines to get in unless you just wanted to chill at the bar. This is a great place to get cool cocktails or try a selection of mezcals. The bites here were tasty and if you're bold enough, the grasshoppers are an intriguing appetizer - salty and crunchy, its good drinking finger foods (though can get too salty after a while). Overall, a cool place to grab a drink or two for sure.

Yelp
The only reason I am giving this place 4/5 instead of 5/5 was because it took us almost 30 minutes to get a drink, but I honestly think that was because we came on a Monday night (a lot of bars in CDMX are closed on Mondays). The place was absolutely packed (people were congregated outside), but the atmosphere was hip without being pretentious. Very much a "chic" dive bar. The important part: the drinks!! My boyfriend and I are both mezcal fans, and were very impressed with the cocktails (albeit maybe not worth waiting 30 minutes for).

Yelp
Had a 10 hour lay over in MX City from NY while heading to Tulum with my girlfriend. We headed straight here after researching as my girlfriend loves Mezcal. THis is the place to go for a date night sippin mezcal n just chill vibes. Bryan was running the place that night he was the host server bartender manager and took care great of us with tastings and recommendations. If you're in MX city n want good mezcal, margaritas, and vibes. Look no further.

Yelp
If you're a looking for a small place to enjoy a drink with friends, this is a great spot. It's nothing fancy but it has a ton of character with a very Mexican vibe to it. Their specialty is the 'mezcal', but they also have craft beer. The service was great, very friendly staff. I noticed that there were people about all ages which is a good sign. Cozy, friendly staff, good drinks - nothing bad for a night out.

Yelp
La Clandestina is the perfect place to get your night out started in CDMX. It's a cozy bar with an array of Mexcal options and some of the best cocktails in the city. Because it's small, it does get crowded, so would recommend coming at the beginning of your night out and then continuing on to other bars in Condesa!

Yelp
If you're even remotely interested in mezcal and find yourself in Mexico City, do yourself a favor and get to La Clandestina ASAP! The mezcal list is extremely well-curated, especially in terms of sipping mezcals. There is also an offering of mezcal cocktails, but no one in my group partook in those. You *will* see a lot of tourists at this spot. I mean, this place has a ton of Yelp reviews now. Those of us who use Yelp in the US are going to discover this highly-rated bar via...Yelp! Do not be put off by that. I stayed here fairly late, and a lot more locals showed up past midnight. Anyway, tourists != bad mezcal/tourist trap/rip-off. If you don't know what mezcal to get, just ask your server! I got a pechuga mezcal because I'd been dying to try one and they cost an arm and a leg back home in Seattle. The price was, of course, much more reasonable here. This mezcal did not disappoint! I went on to sip on two more (different) mezcals off their list, and those were top notch as well. I also got an order of tlayuda for dinner while here, and it was both massive and very satisfyingly crunchy (and delicious!). Spacewise, this bar is a bit small, so you may end up having to wait--unless you get here early, by which I mean sometime before 9 PM. It's worth it, though! Mezcal newbies and connoisseurs will both appreciate this spot, so it's perfect for any group.

Yelp
The avocado drink is delicious!!! I want to have it every single weekend forever but I live in California so not happening. The place is small but the ambiance is cool. Our server was super funny. It was great. Can't wait to go back.
