Best restaurants and bars in Telluride | Eater Denver

"Mexican food that’s healthy? Or at least healthy-ish and made with whole, mostly organic ingredients? That’s Cocina De Luz. The vibe is casual and order-at-the counter but the food is exquisite — the posole and vegan tamales in particular. Don’t come expecting TexMex, but do visit the chips and salsa bar, check out the fresh-pressed juice menu, and order a scoop of just-churned ice cream." - Amanda Faison

Very simply, my favorite restaurant in Telluride. I grew up in Telluride and still come home to visit often. We’ve seen countless restaurants come and go - La Cocina is timeless. The menu is so solid and so consistent. My favorite meal here is the field green salad with carne asada (extra cilantro lime dressing on the side). Like C’MON. So insanely good. It’s hard not to love their chips and salsa bar. Their enchiladas, vegan tamales, quesadillas and tacos are always a hit too. I cannot say enough good things about La Cocina.

Decent Mexican food overall, but not particularly memorable. I had the large burrito with two sides, choosing carne asada as my filling. While it was advertised as marinated and grilled skirt steak, the texture leaned more toward pot roast than steak. The beans and rice on the side were fine but lacked seasoning and could have used more flavor. On the positive side, the guacamole was delicious, and the salsa bar was a nice touch with plenty of options. We also tried the queso fundido, which was solid and enjoyable. Good spot for a casual meal, but not one I’d go out of my way for.

Order at the counter, keep your tab open for drinks and food. The margaritas are delicious. Chile relleno with red or green sauce. The green sauce is a poblano pepper sauce, a tad spicy and delicious. The red pepper sauce is guajillo pepper, also amazing. The food is fresh, the salsas are amazing. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Bonus, the bartender is a paisana.

Our first trip to Telluride and what a way to start. La Cocina de Luz is a must try if visiting Telluride. We were greeted by someone from their very friendly staff and were seated immediately. Free chips and two types of salsa were brought to the table. The salsa was fresh and delicious. My wife ordered quesadillas and they covered the entire plate. I ordered the special of the day which was a pan seared rainbow trout with quajillo peppers and garlic. Holy cow it was amazing. Everything tasted so fresh. If you see it offered you HAVE to get it. It was also nice to have several of the employees come by our table to see if we were enjoying our meal. We assumed it was the owner and the chef. 5*’s for La Cocina de Luz!

Casual Mexican spot in the heart of Telluride, serving breakfast until 11:30, and a lunch/dinner menu after that. Order at the counter and they’ll serve you at your table. Big portions, we left full. Love that they have vegetarian and vegan options; ordered the vegan plate which was tasty. They have a limited alcoholic drink menu - serving beer, wine, and margaritas (also have coffee drinks and juices). Staff was friendly, vibe was casual. Lots of art decorating the walls.

Such a great experience at La Cocina de Luz! The food was terrific and the service was out of this world! I wish I got the name of the manager/person taking orders, but I could have listened to his interactions all day long. Would be a multi million viewer YouTube channel! Went back for breakfast and was yet again impressed.

Absolutely fantastic Mexican food in Telluride. We're so grateful that there are so many vegan options here! Love the self serve chips and salsa bar, I feel like that's what makes a true Mexican spot. The customers here were pretty rude, but that is not a reflection of the restaurant itself.

Great place for breakfast!! All homemade and the gluten free blue corn waffle was DELICIOUS!! The best coffee we’ve had! Warm friendly atmosphere and eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly! Couldn’t stop hubby from eating before I got a picture. Chips and salsa at breakfast!!
