The 35 Best Restaurants in Cartagena, Colombia | Eater

"Anyone who can’t afford a coastal getaway will find a taste of seaside comfort food here. Although founder María Josefina Yancés has handed over her small restaurant to her nephew Christian Sepúlveda, the kitchen carries on her extensive work with traditional local foodways, paying tribute to biological and cultural diversity in the Caribbean. Typical ingredients include cassava, plantain, eggplant, chiles, beef, pork, hens, ducks, and plenty of fish from rivers and the sea. Look for mote de queso, boronía (eggplant and sweet plantain puree), pasteles and hallacas (types of tamales), gallina monteriana (chicken stew from Montería), or viuda de carne salada (salt-cured meat with garnishes). Seating is first-come, first-served. [$$]" - Juliana Duque

This quaint restaurant is located about 10 mins' walk from the heart of the city centre. We had Ceviche de Corvina to start, followed by Sopa Caribe (fish broth and coconut milk, with fish & shrimp) and Posta Cartagenera (beef cooked in its juices and finished in traditional sauce with red wine & sugar cane). All of them were good especially the latter which was exceptionally tender. The fresh juices were really nice too - we had corozo (tart palm fruit) & guayaba (guava). Service was brisk. However, the food & drinks were overpriced given the rather small portions. Probably because this restaurant is mainly for tourists. We didn't see any locals there.

Bar far the best restaurant I’ve tried in Colombia and top 5 on my list. The food was fun and creative, the cocktails made with love and caring. The menu’s is just right on length and the dishes may en something like you never tried before. From the Caribbean soup to the carne salada, everything it’s just spot on between saltiness and flavor

A real find (although it’s been praised in a Lonely Planet guide, and you’ll have trouble getting a table at lunchtime). I had dinner here and their Sopa Caribe is the best seafood stew I’ve had in years, maybe in my lifetime. Genuinely friendly staff, welcoming to solo diners, a small restaurant which means you could have real conversations. If I lived in Cartagena, I’d be a regular.

This is my own experience and might not reflect the quality of the whole menu rest. I order Posta Cartagena and I could not eat it at all. The meat was very tough, hard to cut or chew. It’s a very thick cut that wasn’t cooked well and I had to return it. The good thing was that they didn’t charge for it.. but I wouldn’t say I’ll be there again. Also, they say they open at 7 PM for dinner, but in reality it’ll be 7:15 - 7:30 in our case we had to wait outside in the rain until they opened the doors..

La Cocina de Pepina is a small restaurant with very friendly and welcoming staff. It’s a true guarantee of quality when it comes to food and traditional Caribbean recipes. The service can be a bit slow, but the excellent flavors are absolutely worth the wait. What a wonderful place to end a trip to Colombia!

The food was great, La posta Cartagenera, el cerdo zinuense (pork) and the desserts a must do,I will recommend to have some patacones as entry, bit pricey but really worth, excellent balance between traditional and gourmet in the dishes! We will be back for sure!

This is really authentic Colombian food. And it is extremely good. This is a must-go place. Yes, the seats are limited (around 8 tables), but the staff is amazing, the place is super cozy and again, the food is amazing. We had "posta cartagenera" and "cerdo sinuano"

DELICIOUS FOOD. Friendly staff, small but well conceived menu. 100% recommend. Small dining room, so I recommend making a reservation.
