Google
I enjoyed this. This location is easy, accessible and has ample parking. The inside is small and cluttered but the food is pretty good. I ordered the beef empanada. She microwaved it , which I hated. It made the shell soggy. Otherwise, the empanada was well made and the ground beef was well seasoned. The arepa with cheese was perfect. I would recommend this place for breakfast/lunch.

Google
The people are absolutely awesome. No issues. I only gave it three stars because of the food. The first thing I had was baked chicken with seafood rice and it was amazing. The last time I got the chicken rice with the fried chicken and everything was just dry and bland but I'll definitely try them again

Google
I go to breakfast here every day with my wife and best friend. If you want a friendly staff and home cooked food. This is the spot.

Google
I got the chicken stew and it was really delicious. Kind of disappointed when I got home and looked at the menu to see they charged me the credit card price when I paid in cash. It's supposed to be a cheaper price for cash.

I can't give a full review because it was my 1st time visiting the establishment. I can give a review of what I ordered & of the person that served me. Everything looked & smelled good. The person who served me was kind & friendly. I had the picadillo with white rice, sweet plantains, a fried yuca fritter, & a side of beans. It all was very tasty, with the exception of the fritter. My only qualm was the pricing for what I ordered. It came to $29, including 2 bags of cheese doodles. Would I go back... Yes. Everything looked vibrant & fresh... I wanted to try EVERYTHING.

Yelp
The music was on, friendly faced behind the counter, there was a line but they busted through it fairly quick! Wasn't sure what to try so I just picked out something from the hot bar, a spaghetti dish with of course some delicious plantains!! Holy moly, YUMMY!! Yeah, this was a good spot for lunch!! and fairly priced! Under $10!!

Yelp
La cocina is a great spot for lunch, breakfast that won't break your pocket around the area. You can get a decent size portion of food for under $10 bucks. I am talking rice, beans and meat of your choice for less than $10. I work approximately $5 driving from here and travel to get food. Flavor is great (it's not a restaurant), but it will definitely get you out of a pinch if you're on a budget. I love this spot.

Yelp
This place used to be really good. Ate there today and was charged $12.00 for a small dish of Black Bean Rice and a spoon of Pepper Steak. Menu says Wednesday Special $7.00... I got freaking ripped off... NEVER GOING BACK!!!!

Yelp
This is a great little spot right off of Route 23 in Fairfield close to the Target. They have a nice selection daily you can get regular sandwiches and hamburgers in addition to a fantastic little Latin menu. I have had their papa rellenas, empanadas and bistec en salsa. All of which were super delicious. Definitely make me want to come back even more. My only qualm with this restaurant is that they are only open during the week and only until 4 p.m.

Yelp
Small little deli that serves up breakfast, sandwiches and Latin cuisine. What a combo right? Been here a couple times for lunch and each time have gone with the hot spanish food. Not the best I've ever tasted but location wise, it does the job when I'm craving some rice and beans. They offer small and large plates depending on your appetite. I have also tried the empanadas which are pretty decent. They do accept cash and cards. Closed on weekends. Have a couple seats inside if you chose to dine in.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite little spots in Fairfield. If your looking for something that tastes good. This place is worth a visit - they have anything from rice and pepper steak to a fresh cold cut sandwhich.

Stephen C.

Yelp
I was a big fan of La Cocina -- until it was sold to a new owner. Because of this, the food has declined -- and the service is overtly in favor of the Spanish-speaking community. If you are a non-Latino, you have an uphill fight to receive the proper service, especially in the language area. Sorry, but I will never go here again. The former owners were polite and mannerly -- and they spoke fluent American-English.

Yelp
This deserves five stars every time! Amazing people. Amazing care and love put into their cooking. Great variety! Thank you!

Pathros P.

Yelp
I am so happy it's open again. Best Cuban sandwich ANYWHERE. I like them nice and hot with melty cheese. Empanadas are great too. Many hot plates of food. Run don't walk to this place.

Rasheeda E.

Yelp
I ordered the "special of the day" which was chili. Before I even opened the chili it smelled rotten. The meat smells like it was left out for 3 days. Disgusting to didn't even have to take the top off. Easiest way to get food poisoning. Never again
google avatar

Yelp
Potato balls are awesome. Love the empanadas too. Really good Cuba sandwich. All the other "hot tray" foods are some of the best Latin American food I have had in a long rime. I just wish they had longer hours and were open weekends.

Dave N.

Yelp
Used to love their Cuban sandwich. I went in last week and asked for a Cubano, and the lady behind the counter rolled her eyes and said "no we don't ... I don't even know what that is". I left hungry.

Yelp
If this place had a nice seating area it would be 5 stars. The food is always good.

Yelp
Best little hidden gem ever! This place sometimes has lines out the door during lunch. They serve Latin food and have different specials everyday. Their chicken quesadilla is DELICIOUS. It actually looks like a huge empanadas and they serve it with lettuce and also rice and beans. It's enough for lunch and maybe even dinner. You really can't beat the prices! They're also very quick getting your order together and their is a separate lady doing the payments so I think that's what makes the service so fast. I work around the corner and this is one of the offices favorite places!
google avatar

Yelp
This place would get 5 stars if they had longer hours & reliable Delivery service as they advertise. But besides that, it's a delicious local place to get yummy food. Super cheap and nice size portions. My workplace is obsessed with their Cuban offerings - we order empanadas & maduros almost daily. On Thursdays I get their Ropa Vieja special... today I got the Small size and it was mostly just rice, not much beef. Next time I'll get the larger portion to get more of this shreddy goodness. This is the best local place to get Latin Caribbean without having to go into Paterson.
google avatar

Shea M.

Yelp
Decent Spanish food. It's not great but I'm not sure what type/region of this Latin food. I prefer Caribbean style like Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban. I'm not sure if it's just a different style or they Americanize it. Pollo, carne guisado & ground beef was almost bland. I could've used more flavor. But it's not bad when you're mixing it with the rice & beans. Overall it's a decent lunch spot for quick grab & go. Maybe just keep some adobo or hot sauce at your desk when you return to kick it up a notch.

Yelp
BUSINESS HOURS - MON - FRI 6AM - 4PM This place is slaaahhmmmiinngg! They only do breakfast and lunch and i love their lunch...chicken and rice to be specific. Their empanadas are awesome and my co-worker loves their Papa Rellena and says it is awesome as well! Definitely authentic and the chicken breast is so tender, moist and delicious! I had picadillo with white rice today and it was sooo good! But i think the Filipino version (with potatoes) is better! I am bias to my own nationality :) Certainly try this place once and you'll keep going for lunch..by the time, I get back to Fairfield they are already closed, so i have to make the trek during my lunch hour(s)...lol

Yelp
Delicious Cuban sandwich! All homemade meats and salads. Great place for breakfast or lunch. Will be back for sure!
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
I love this place. Consistently good food at very reasonable prices and a friendly staff to boot.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch! Wanted to try something new. My sister and mother had the Cuban sandwich, which they said was awesome! I had a bacon with egg and cheese on a roll that was yummy. Got a small order of sweet plantains that was a great portion and scrumptious! Small place with a little seating area! Fast service at counter and fresh delicious food! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I LOVE this place for lunch; it's the perfect hidden gem. The staff makes such delicious home-made food and for a VERY fair price. I always walk out of here under $10 and with a full stomach. My only complaint is that I don't believe they're open on weekends and close around 3pm on weekdays.
google avatar

S L.

Yelp
Had a craving today so I went during lunchtime on a Monday. Steady flow of patrons. Friendly staff. Portion sizes are generous. Chicken w/rice bursts with flavor. Pork chops are tender. Plantains melt in the mouth. Heard from a first timer customer today that the Cubano is really good. He'll be back for those. For me, the Tamale was ok, had a few specks of mea, but I'll be back for other specials.

Yelp
La cocina had amazing food which reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. The owner and staff are outstanding!!

Yelp
This place the best Spanish food around! Granted there aren't too many near by but this place is very good. Wish they were open for dinner.

Dearmas J.

Yelp
Beef empanadas with their hot sauce are packed with meat n flavor! Bought 20 home-gone asap! Only neg is Not open on weekends!!! Cuban sandwich off the charts also!

Wallace H.

Yelp
Very Simple , well managed Spanish cuisine. You can order anything but the Spanish food is the best !
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Seriously, I don't think that make anything bad here... The roast beef is home cooked and TO DIE FOR!!! Also, they sell Boylan's soda and that is my absolute fav!!!
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
Just went there for the first time for lunch. There hot stuff looked good but I went with a Cuban sandwich and fries. I might as well have just taken the $10 and flushed it down the toilet. I live 2 mins down the road and by the time I got home and unwrapped everything it was a mess. The fries were soggy and greasy. I know that they get a little soggy when you transport them but come on. Although I ate more fries then my sandwich. The "sandwich" barely had any pickles on it and no mustard. All I tasted was cheese and nothing else. Not to mention that the whole thing was soggy and had no flavor to it but cheese. Needless to say just about my entire lunch went right into the garbage because that's where it belongs. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Yelp
Best place for lunch. The Cuban sandwich is awesome rivaled only by the ox tail. Pepper steak is also one of my favorites.

Brad Q.

Yelp
1 star for being nice... 1/2 star for the food. Other reviewers who have stated that this is the best cuban sandwich they've ever had have clearly never had a cuban sandwich. Mine was among the worst I've had, and I've had many. Dried out, unseasoned pernil, soggy, slimy bread, and while I'm not 100% certain, I believe it was mozzarella cheese (hard to distinguish in the mushy bread, but it definitely didn't taste like swiss). Sandwiches are pre-made with tasteless oil instead of real mojo inside, then toasted in the sandwich press to order. So outside is nice and crispy, but inside bread is slimy, gummy mush. Empanada had home made wrapping filled with generic tasting taco filling. Maduros were mostly undercooked. A couple of delicious, caramelized, properly cooked bites and the rest were yellow and way underdone. Another deduction for not having any spanish hot sauce or salsa. They gave me franks red hot sauce on the side (think generic buffalo wing sauce). Busy place... I guess locals don't discriminate on taste. I drove 20 minutes to have a cubano here after reading the rave reviews. Hopefully I can save you from making the same mistake.

Yelp
Decided to check out based on other reviews and not at all disappointed. Black rice n beans w/pork was exactly what I was salivating for. Great food and portion size. Eat in area however very small and not meant for 2 or more people. Ask the the side hot sauce to go.
google avatar

Sue G.

Yelp
Best Taylor ham and egg sandwiches for breakfast. Their empanadas are so delicious as well as their rice and beans! They always greet you with a friendly smile. Been going here for years!
google avatar

Temete L.

Yelp
Very good food. I personally like their Chicken & Rice soup, and their chopped garden salad with grilled chicken. Just wish they delivered, since our office seems to order from them at least twice a week! :)
google avatar

Mohamed A.

Yelp
Good food, lunch was awesome. Medium rice plate with beef. It was a long line but it was well worth it.
google avatar

Kenny B.

Yelp
I would have to say that the cuban sandwich is better than what you would find in Miami!!! it's that good and i challenge anyone that has been to cuba or miami to tell me other wise. There pernil is excellent along with the rice a beans. The rest of the food is good and worth the trip.

David T.

Yelp
Great jewel of a lunch location for those working in Fairfield. Weekly hot food menus of some very good specialty food, very good prices, and a great variety, for both breakfast and lunch! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
excellent latin food everything is homemade from empanadas, papa rellena ,plaintains, the cuban sandwiches are excellent. the pernil over rice is so so good, the ropa vieja is so tender there breakfast are great you get your moneys worth

Robert T.

Yelp
My co workers and I come here or take out form here twice a week and I don't think anyone has ever had something they didn't enjoy. Some of the best home made Latin food I've ever had. And cheap too! If you're in the area for lunch you must stop by.

Denise S.

Yelp
La Cocina is an excellent family run deli, with excellent food. I'm always happy with what I have eaten there. Black Bean Soup is the freaking best!

S B.

Yelp
Good place for home cooked Cuban food. I've only had the lunch 'specials' (i.e., fish, chicken, beef stew) and thought they were quite good. The chicken falls off the bones. Also really liked the beef empanadas. Long lines are common, but they move quickly. Staff is very pleasant.

Rob O.

Yelp
Awesome place for lunch on the weekdays if you are craving home cooked Spanish. Everything is great.

Dave C.

Yelp
Was all good till I got an Italian Hot Dog with spoiled hotdogs. Never went back.
