Yelp
La Cocina - is the kitchen and the music and fragrances that I remember from my tias' homes. You see, I can't say this compares to my Mom's kitchen, it never could. If it were, I'd be helping chop, slice, stir, and taste before it hit the table. I don't think they are going to let me around the counter at La Cocina.
They also have my favorite item that I won't take the 12 hours to fix: Lengua. So admitting to be lazy, I suggest follow my leader and just come here. A 2-taco plate starts at $5.49 with beans, rice, and salad. They also have Orange Whip, horchata, jamaica, and Coca-cola products on self-serve tap.
My second favorite thing about this place is the music. Ballads of joy and heartbreak, celebratory themes rich with strings and horn section, but all suited to the Mexican family home cooked meal.
I do know that there are a few of you asking one of two questions.
1. I do not use chopsticks here
2. I'm not a fan of Mexican food yet here I am.
Well, you caught me. There is one special thing that I've only found in Mexican cooking that I cannot be without. Lengua. Most places put it in a stew and make a gawdawful mess out of it. Here they dice it small and leave it plain in a soft taco with a flourish of cilantro and onion. Yes, I do have to go ask for a ramekin of diced tomatoes. The salsa bar has hot sauce, roasted salsa, fresca, green, and something that looks pretty potent. But since the fresca has jalapenos, I'm back to gringa'ing up my meal with plain tomatoes. So in every way, hot, mild, or accountant plain, you can get it the way you want it. Just like if you were in your own Cocina.
