I havent eaten here since I was a teenager! It definitely brought back some good memories. They have very affordable prices, as well as yummy food, which goes to show why they have been in Chico for so long. I love that they have their own house sauce and their nacho cheese is delicious!

Google
If I could give no stars I would. They just don't care anymore. The food is flavorless and cheap. I mean it's always been cheap quality food but at least it used to taste decent. Maybe its time to hire competent employees again instead of just struggling college students more concerned about the next kegger coming up. Prices aren't exactly inexpensive either. Got dinner for my wife and I the other day and it was almost 40 dollars and barely felt like any food. The Paige burrito made my wife very sick too so just an all around great experience 😒

Google
Love this place so much! We have been coming here for over 50 years and it never disappoints! Recommend the taco burger and the Super burrito. Also free chips and salsa which is amazing ❤️❤️

Google
The food is cheap and huge portions! It is a relaxed environment. Its is order up front and seat yourself style. They call you up to get the food on a tray. The food was good. If you are looking for quick, cheap, and easy, this is your place. If you are looking for flavor, presentation, and environment, dont come here. It will fill the whole crew!

Google
Really bad experience. Never called out order name. I sat there for 20 mins while every other order called out came and went. 15 mins my order sat and my name was never called. ( which the person that took my phone order got wrong!!!)I was also missing an item. Had to go back in and ask for it. I spent $60 on Mexican food for 3 people. Each dinner had only about 2 bites of rice. Not worth it, will never return!

Google
This is like a version of Taco Bell, but more personalized, they offer diner which means a full plate or combo, rice beans, taco/ enchinada and salad. Fountain sodas and coffee. Very young staff. You need to try it to get an opinion. 👍

Google
I just love LaComida. Food is just as great as it's always been. My kids love their food. Such a cozy safe place to enjoy dinner

Robert Rees

Google
It's LaCa. Prices are great, portions are good. Is it the highest quality Mexican food? No. But it's also not the worst. You're not here for authenticity. You're here because you have a few bucks and it's been a minute since you had a super burrito. Got a following for a reason!

Yelp
Sort of an upscale fast food place, only the food isn't all processed. Not quite what I was expecting, but it was good, relatively cheap food. Thumbs up.

Largent T.

Yelp
I wanted to give the employees at this location a shout out!. I rolled in at about 7 minutes to 8:00pm on a Friday night & they were trying to close. I asked if I could place an order to go and they were extremely pleasant and efficient. Love this place and food.

Yelp
I hadn't been to La Comida since ohhhhh... 1991ish and kinda forgot what it was all about (besides Mexican food, duh). I was surprised they made it through Covid and are still open so I had to try them again. I went in on taco Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised with my taco, my enchilada, and the rice and beans. It's definitely not the best Mexican food I've ever had but it's not totally terrible either. It's somewhere in that mediocre range, but the price is right so "mediocre" is ok by me. I also really love that you can refill your drink, and chips/salsa as many times as you want (because no restaurants actually offer this awesome service anymore!) At 98.9% of restaurants located anywhere you have to pay for every little thing but La Comida keeps it 100 by not changing the never-ending sodas and chips/salsa. LOVE THAT! I'd have to say that taco Tuesday is probably the best day to go but beware, you are going to have to wait in line and you might have to wait a while for your food. Other than that, I had a pretty good experience and... If you know me, I'm a stickler for parking which happens to be super easy since their parking lot is ginormous. Solid three stars for me if you haven't been there in a while go check it out.

Yelp
I really like the food and go there several times when I'm in town; however during this visit I've placed two orders to go and they were both incomplete. From now on, I will ask to watch them bag the orders.

Yelp
My Family & I love La Comida! Been eating there for over 35 years! Great prices, great food & Great people!! Highly Recommend!!

Yelp
I've been eating and ADORING La Comida for over 32 years. Not in any way authentic, but filling and delicious and -FORMERLY- cheap food. However, the prices have doubled and have actually just gotten so insane I can't even believe it along with major service and quality downgrades. Super burritos that were $4 are now nearly $9. And inflation excuses don't cut it. Too bad :(
google avatar

Leslie D.

Yelp
The food was ok, but I'm not anxious to try it again. The price was inexpensive for the amount of food they give you, and the restaurant was clean, staff were friendly.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant for years. It's been a part of Chico's restaurant scene for decades. It's still around for good reasons. It has a cafeteria-style environment. You walk in, go to the order counter, say what you want while they write it down, you pay, get a ticket and go find a place to sit. Upon sitting, someone will come by and give you chips and salsa to eat while you wait for your food. The food always comes out at a rapid pace, so you won't be waiting too long for your food. Also, the salsa pairs excellently with the dishes. The restaurant is roomy; it has a relaxed atmosphere and you don't feel overwhelmed by anything, even during lunch hour when every table is being observed. The food isn't bad; nice, simple, tasty, plentiful dishes at reasonable prices. I usually order a #1 when I come here. It's a 2-item meal that comes with rice and beans and a salad. I normally choose the Super Burrito and the Tostada as my items and get the food to go, but of course, if I have the time, I'll eat here. I also like their Tamales and their Guacamole Dip is great to buy and eat at home. If you're looking for a place that serves reasonably good, economically priced food, then look no further. This is it!

Yelp
The quality is still the same, but the prices on their website are WRONG! Expect to pay much more. I get a Fiesta Salad with chicken side dressings of oil & vinegar small guacamole chips and salsa now $25
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
Lots of food - cheap - notice I did not say good - salad is a plate of shredded bagged lettuce - tostada is fried tortilla with some beans, rice covered with lots of shredded, bagged lettuce - chips probably from cheapest place they can buy them, dumped in a bin everyone helps themselves from - 'salsa' in squeeze bottles next to bin - order cafeteria style, help yourself silverware, soda. Place was packed with large families - not for us - but plenty of people like huge plates of cheap food.

Ethan M.

Yelp
Lunch Room quality for a lunch room price. Do not expect authentic Mexican food. Dated and depressing. 2 Stars due to appropriate pricing.

Yelp
I've been going to La comida since I was 10 years old, so 38 years! It used to be great when Mike the original owner was there! Unfortunately I have to say last night Friday 7-2-24 my family and I were there and a baby roach crawled across the table so we got up and left and will never go back! That was the last draw....in the last year we've had so many mess up on orders in and for take out its a wonder they are still in business! We were there about 4 months ago eating in and I ordered a tostada and I got a super burrito, the young man with long curly hair and a mustache wasn't to happy to find out he had to make me a tostada I watched him throw it together all pissed off but the worst part he did not have gloves on! I complained but nothing happened SADLY WE ARE DONE WITH LA COMIDA FOREVER! Bad service, unsanitary service and a baby roach crawling across the table and it's a no brainer! Bye bye La comida you had a good run but now...... SEE YA! If I could give it ZERO reviews I would!!!

Django G.

Yelp
7-10-24. ordered the #1 chile rellano and chicken tostada, extra chicken with oil & vinegar. Then a beef and bean tostada, extra beef with ranch. NO DRESSINGS, SALSA OR SMALL SALAD!!! I called for 13 minutes trying to get through. I finally go through (my cell phone in one hand and my landline in the other. I could hear people in the background on my cell phone. Was talking to a guy on my land line and I could hear him TALKING TO ME on my cell!!! He said they were having phone problems, YEAH!! you don't want to take phone orders!!! This lace is going downhill.

Robert L.

Yelp
You get what you pay for. Cheap prices mean cheap food and quality. Attitude from guy ginger cashier.
google avatar

Janet M.

Yelp
Very dirty... cafeteria style ... food is really not that good. Clean your bathrooms .. service was ok. Sad this place was nice in the day.

S L.

Yelp
I ordered via Door Dash, with specific instructions to leave the order at the studio behind the house. Ignatio completely ignored that to leave it on the front porch of the main house. I'm disabled and to climb 7 steps is incredibly difficult. I have to take them one at a time using a cane. He didn't have the courtesy to actually read the location instructions and leave it at my front door. Food was mediocre. I won't be ordering from La Comida again, and I used to go there regularly.

Coast P.

Yelp
Well for one thing they have doubled their prices and laid off their best employee after 29 YEARS because they couldn't afford him anymore, I know this guy and he was a valued employee with the previous owners but with the new owners, its all about the money, think twice about eating here they don't value their employees...
google avatar

Pink G.

Yelp
Come on! Great Americanized Mexican food. Been going there for over 40 years. Still keep going. Love the kiosk when checking in.

Hazel B.

Yelp
I took my mother here a few months back, and she tripped on the tack strip between the carpet and the tile going to pick up a saucer for salsa at the pickup area next to the drink station. I was paying and I heard a loud thud and it was my mother !. Her head slammed against the drink wall and she was flat in the floor and employee said oh my God someone just tripped on that last night thank God there were a table of Enloe nurses there one of them well most of them and a few gentlemen help my mother get up. She had just had a visit to the cancer center for her chemo treatment, she loves the Paige burritos . The nurse and I got her to the table and she suggested she go to ER my mom being stubborn said she will be fine. She ended up going to her doctor she was bruised badly and I have pictures of them all. She is 85 years old. What's crazy to me is when we had home health aide come to my mom and dad's home. We were telling her the story because she had asked if she had fallen lately and she said I tripped over trip at La Comida and showed her her bruises. She said oh my God I've tripped there as well. I know many people that have I have as well, I called the city of Chico to find out if we could have La Comida make the tack strip, not such a tripping hazard throughout the little restaurant. They said the only thing we could do is file a civil lawsuit which we did not want to do we would rather LaComida go to Lowe's and get some flat tax strip, I sent a couple of my family members in about a month and two months later to see if maybe they fixed it and take pictures there was a Mat put over that area because obviously other people have fallen. I'm hoping that somebody from La Comida reads this review and hopefully to save some elderly person or younger because there are a lot of elderly people that eat there the food is fair priced and they have great food, I would gladly go to Lowe's myself to buy new tack strip to enjoy their burritos or tacos and wonderful salads. Please be aware of tripping hazards It can be prevented if somebody would just do something throughout the rooms at La Comida .

Yelp
It has always been great food, even with astronomical price hikes. A taco was $1.25 just a couple of years ago, and now $2.99. But when i see a "COCKROACH" in an establishment. I will not go any longer. Which is sad. I said to the employee cleaning the dining area. "What is that?" Knowing full well, it was a COCKROACH. She then took it to the gentelman, putting food on trays. My wife and i heard him say, "Not again?" Very unsanitary and unacceptable. What kind of new owners are running this place? Is that where the piece of taco shell went that was missing 80% of the time????

Mandy C.

Yelp
Really surprisingly good, compared to the price! Think comfort food, not fancy food, and you won't be disappointed. Lots of flavorful sauces and cheeses, as well as acceptable ratios of produce to proteins in their entrees. You absolutely get your moneys worth. It's a landmark of memories for long time residents, and a memorable stop if visiting Chico. Be sure to check it out, but consider having the following day one in which you have been planning on staying in anyway...
google avatar

Jaden And Friends P.

Yelp
I love this place, it's not the fanciest food but an 8$ super burrito is literally my favorite "Mexican" food meal ever
google avatar

O S.

Yelp
Okay...so I've been coming here for over 20 years and it's always been consistently good, for "that" style of Mexican food lol. Great salsa. Etc. a classic spot that I'll never stop coming to. BUT, I walked in and got looked up at by FOUR different employees and not one of them said hi or smiled, so much so that a male employee walked up that wasn't behind the counter and said "is anybody gonna help her" and I said I guess not, and then still hesitant and with no smile, one finally steps up to take my order. Then, my cashier that was being trained, well the trainer was friendly and nice from there. But geez... I've never been looked at by so many employees and so blatantly ignored and un-acknowledged when I've entered an establishment in my life. Please train your front house staff better! They need to smile and be welcoming. But my food was 10/10.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Chico staple!! You can't go wrong with the tostada, chips and salsa!! Great prices too!!

Eurlyne G.

Yelp
Love, love, love this place. My favorite is the tostada with the mound of fresh shredded iceberg lettuce and the house dressing. There used to be a location in Sacramento but since it closed I have missed the food. So when I was in the area of Chico I had to visit. The recipes are the same as I remember and only wish it wasn't so far away.

Liborio M.

Yelp
Not really Mexican food. It's more expensive than other real Mexican restaurants and not very tasty. Go elsewhere
google avatar

Sherri R.

Yelp
I have not had La Comida since they closed in Medford Oregon in the early 90's and I was not disappointed. It was a walk down memory lane. From the most polite employees to gracious other customers and food to die for. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

LiZa S.

Yelp
Possibly the worst Mexican food I have ever had. It's close proximity to my house convinced me to try it twice.. I had to give it a fair shake. But both times I encountered truly the most flavorless, bland, boring Mexican food ever. They have only a single salsa and it's like watered-down tomato mush. The refried beans take the prize for the most tasteless dry, stiff, and hard beans ever. Even if its location is handy, I strongly suggest crossing town for a more authentic and flavorful option like La Familia

Patricia R.

Yelp
In my opinion the food is very good ! No it's not the most authentic , but with todays prices the way they are, high everywhere, this is a great place. my friend and I have doctors inh Chico and we make sure that our appointments are not on mondays because they are closed . Have always had pleasent service and darn good food. Will continue to go there !
google avatar

Jake V.

Yelp
La Comida always screws up order to go. it never fail. They have lost my business of going on and off for 20 plus years. I paid over $45 and this place couldn't even add sour cream or ranch I paid for! I gave them another chance after screwing up previous to go order. There is better options and quality for the price in Chico. I am angry I spent this much money here and paid for basically beans lettuce on tortilla with skimpy amount of chicken. barely amount any cheese. And one of the girls who was making orders was gossiping about customers. No wonder why my order got messed up.

Gabrielle F.

Yelp
It's really good and also very cheap. It's definitely not authentic Mexican food very white washed but still good.

Lisa R.

Yelp
Always consistent in food - a bit heavy handed on the Salt - maybe more Mexican herbs & spices less salt. My husband has been purchasing from LaComida since summer of 1976. We moved back to Chico in 2000 and grab a bite of La Comida . Our 2 daughters have been partakes and now our grandchildren enjoy it as well. Please add "Cilantro" to the menu!!
google avatar

Monica H.

Yelp
I ordered 2 tostadas with chips and guacamole. My guacamole was brown and I got no chips on my take out bag. WTF?

Mike A S.

Yelp
When they took my order the guy ask me three times what I order and when he read it back to me he still got it wrong. I will never go back here again. Bathrooms are dirty. So sad this place used to be awesome when I was a kid.

Ann R.

Yelp
Great pace for cheap food. The food is their own style, I've never found anywhere else like it. My favorite is the Nick's nachos made with their spicy bean dip and they pile on the guacamole no extra charge. I order it with no meat but it comes with your choice of chicken, carnitas or beef. You can also get a bucket of chips which is great for parties UPDATE: disappointed to see employees were not wearing masks and they don't appear to take the virus seriously.
google avatar

Erin D.

Yelp
La comida has the best homemade salsa and guacamole in town. I love, love, love their chicken tostada with extra chicken, no beans and guacamole. It is so much food and I always get an extra container of salsa to go.Tostada

Christina R.

Yelp
First time here. Food is not good. Beef enchilada was disgusting and I'm not a picky eater. Beans taste like from a can rice from a box. Sorry but I will not be back...
google avatar

Logan S.

Yelp
I took a group of students here on a college exploration trip. I got a tip from a Chico Alum that this place was all the rage. When I went in, I was impressed by the low prices. The menu seemed reasonable--usual general Mexican fare, burritos and enchiladas and blah. I don't think anybody working there was Mexican. The meat choices were basically hamburger and chicken. I am a California native an have been eating in taquerias my entire life. It's strange to see hamburger in a Mexican restaurant. There were no meat options I could get behind. No carne asada, or carnitas....just ground beef. The food tasted like a giant TV dinner. It fills a hole. I could see the appeal if I was a drunk college student. I had a Mexican student with me on the trip, and she was horrified, as was I. The food was salty and tasted vaguely of dog food. I got a box for my oversized, underflavored burrito thing. I threw most of it away. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, go to any taqueria instead. It's cheap. Perhaps if I was bro wasted I would like it. So yeah. It tries. I would get some real Mexican food.

S D.

Yelp
Have been doing La Comida for over 35 years, knew the Dad in Paradise before he passed away, Was a weekly meal stop for many many years!! Was really sad when they decided to close the one in Paradise, was even sadder to hear the kids decided to sell the one in Chico!! So this was my first time to try it after changing hands!! Was not impressed with some of the changes. Charging now for extra dressing, salsa, sour cream, etc... The ranch dressing was to watered down, the salsa was much thinner, very little beans an chicken on the tostada, the enchilada was so salty I could not eat it!!! If the new owners keep this up, won't be long before there out of business!!! This place has been a Chico landmark for years!!! Just hope the new owners will try harder to keep it the way the family had it for years!!! The quickest way to go out of business is to change things!!!
google avatar

Mari L.

Yelp
Ordered a beef and rice fiesta salad and it came as a beef and been fiesta salad. Ordered a bean and rice fiesta salad and it came as a beef and bean fiesta salad. We also ordered two super burritos with sour cream and no sour cream came on either. Super disappointing.

Owen H.

Yelp
Place was ass burritos doesn't say that the burritos come wet and it came in a puddle of sauce, the super burrito only had unseasoned chicken and beans in it. they don't even have carne asada that's the base of any mexican restaurant. And for some reason the salsa comes in a bottle not a bowl and it's basically just juice not salsa. No gouda

Rick B.

Yelp
This has traditionally been a place to go for decent food at a very reasonable price! This winning formula is not the case any longer, per my last visit a few days ago. What was once a restaurant just about everyone could afford, has become quite a bit pricier. If this trend continues, this restaurant will cease to do business in the Chico area. I believe the new owners are not sticking with The tradition of a winning formula of decent food that was affordable for most anybody.
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
La Comida is our family go to when in Chico, but I must admit that the sign on your door to be patient with the workers who showed up because nobody wants to work any more is offensive to me and an insult to your employees
google avatar

Lupita G.

Yelp
Garbage food, they got my orders all wrong their chicken was grey stay away from this business

Austin B.

Yelp
Decided to try this place despite the reviews as I live fairly close. Ordered a beef burrito for pickup, was $7 and as soon as I took a bite I realized it was literally just beef and a tortilla with nothing else. This was the first and last time I eat here, too many other cheaper and better Mexican restaurants in chico.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
One star is way to high I know there is people in Chico who think this place has the best authentic mix food in Chico. Omg Taco Bell is by far better and cheaper than this place. The food sucks, ambience is nothing like a mex restaurant and they have nothing to offer but their name. It is a good place for classmate to Reminence but if your coming for the food DONT
google avatar

Sheryl M.

Yelp
I love La Comida! They always have great service and the food is great. If your looking for "authentic" I lean towards more of an American version of Mexican food with this place but it good regardless! Always fresh, hot, prices are extremely fair and I don't think I've ever had anything from here I don't like. It's not a huge place inside so get there early for lunch or dinner rush. It's a favorite around Chico so they are busy during rush hours. It's not fancy inside but always clean. I gave them 5 stars because I've never been disappointed one bit in this place. I'd definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Amanda E.

Yelp
Everything is so good every time we come in. The staff is so friendly. We love coming here with the family.. it's always my daughters pick for her birthday dinner!!!
google avatar

Sally W.

Yelp
We went for Taco Tuesday and was immediately surprised when we walked in the door on how big the place was. Very good for a bigger parties and kids. The tacos were on the American side but still good for the low price. We will definitely go back to try other menu items.
