"The beloved family-owned coffee house in D.C.’s Manor Hill closed this year, with a new location in the works in neighboring Brightwood. For now, you can still try the coffee beans founder Juan Luis Salazar Cano sources from a collective he organized in his hometown of Union Cantinil, in Guatemala’s Huehuetenango region. An additional outpost landed in Arlington a little over a year ago and La Coop has still been popping up at D.C. bakeries and breweries. The coffee shop also sells Colombian-style empanadas, burritos, bagelitos, and New York-style pizza." - Tierney Plumb, Emily Venezky

Visit La Coop on a semi regular basis to connect with a friend and fellow non-profit professional. We often split the Kennedy Street breakfast sandwich. Today got the winter special latte, pistachio biscotti with oat milk! Yum! It is so cold out, I should've gotten it extra hot. The sandwich was tasty, but could've been heated longer. This extra cold calls for warming cups before the brew goes in. I do love getting things for "here" at La Coop as they have nice plates and gold cutlery. The baristas were lovely today especially as my friend wasn't able to join me last min. My only complaint is that LA Coop need to work on their napkins...serviettes. they are worse than diner or gas station ones. You need 5 just to wipe grease of their delicious biscuits 😋 from your finger tips. Please fix and you'd be near perfect!

Coffee Shop No. 427 La Coop Coffee Arlington, VA October 6, 2024 La Coop Coffee in Washington, D.C. has always been on my coffee radar, but my trips into the city never quite took me to La Coop’s door. When I found out they opened a shop in Arlington I made sure the next time I was there I planned to visit La Coop. La Coop Coffee in Arlington is absolutely stunning. The moment you open the door you are welcomed to bright natural light and colorful decor. The barista was friendly, greeted me instantly and made a delicious cortado. I sat at the window, watched folks stroll be, sipped on my cortado, and enjoyed the moment I was blessed to be in.

I really like this coffee shop and I wish it was in walking distance. The vibe is nice with indoor and outdoor seeing and the coffee has always been delicious. They serve both cold brew and nitro cold brew which there is a distinction. They also serve hot coffees, but I come here for the cold brew . The flavor is great. The coffee always feels full, bodied and flavorful. Anytime I’m in the area. I make sure to stop by.

Very cozy and comfortable local coffee shop with good donuts, several drink options and kind service. Parking is very easy to find. The main downside is there aren’t a lot of tables inside or many wall plugs if that’s what you’re counting on. Perhaps I came at a busy time, but it’s nice to see evidence of a shop being a local favorite. I didn’t see many options in terms of dietary restrictions either, but I’d trust what they do have is fresh and tasty. And I’m sure they’d answer any questions you had.

We had a lovely breakfast at this coffee shop this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. The coffee was exceptional - full of flavor and not watered down. It was rich without being too strong, and even the iced caramel latte with oat milk didn't have that plant-based milk taste, which was great. They must use a high-quality brand for it. Our breakfast croissants were perfect - the portion size was just right, and the sausage and bacon added a slight saltiness that paired well with the toasted croissants and eggs, creating a pleasant texture. We also tried their pastries from Fresh Baguette, a well-known French bakery in McLean. The apple Danish was perfect. The coffee shop was cozy and tidy, with trendy decor. The white tiles and gold lantern hats contrasted beautifully with the dark green panels on one side, and hanging plants from the ceiling added a nice touch. The other side of the wall was covered in colorful wallpaper with photographs showing where their coffee was grown. We loved every aspect of the shop, including the excellent service. We can't wait to go back and have another breakfast soon!

Google
I've been going to the coop for a few months as they are my local coffee shop. It's very good quality and a really cute place. The Kennedy Street breakfast sandwich is always delicious and delicious drip coffee. They offer a variety of coffee roasts, food options, etc. and the staff is always nice. Definitely recommend making it your regular stop too!

The workers are always super nice & the store is clean. My favorite drink I have not had/found in any other coffee shop it is the dirty horchata. It is creamy and delicious. 😋

Riley G.

Yelp
Very adorable inside, it would be a cute place to do work at. The prices are very affordable which is a win. I tried the Dirty Horchata, and it was good. I love Horchata, and this blend was nothing like I have had before. I want to try it again and add some creamer in it or if they have whip cream, I think that would be good. The staff were very friendly, and they have a lot of delicious sounding drinks on the menu, as well as donuts. I will for sure be back.

Yelp
Really great coffee shop! Stumbled across this place when Hutton the nearby Trader Joe's. Plenty of parking, it's in a strip mall. Very cute decor. They had a food menu but I only grabbed coffee - an iced oat milk latte. I'd say it was good, not the best I've ever had (Tatte, blue bottle and Northside social are my top 3!) Service was quick and friendly. There is a decent amount of seating if you wanted to dine in.

Sophia P.

Yelp
Matcha isn't good quality, the color/flavor are off. The drinks are served in paper to go cups.

David H.

Yelp
Solid coffee, easy location right off of 50, the shop isn't huge but there is some seating inside and out. Some pastries (croissants etc) are from fresh baguette, the rest they make in house. Ordered a cruller but would skip this in the future - it was overly sweet and the texture was one dimensional. But the coffee is good. espresso drinks were well made, the current pumpkin latte is tasty.

Zack G.

Yelp
Small but bright and airy coffee shop with very friendly baristas Limited indoor and outdoor seating Have an assortment of pastries and a few hot items for food as well. I tried an apple fritter, breakfast sandwich, and a dirty horchata latte. Everything was subpar, especially the latte which was straight-up undrinkable as it had WAY too much cinnamon. I ended up having to throw it away Oddly have a solid selection of Nightingale Ice Cream Bars however, which is a plus

Joshua C.

Yelp
Coffee: 3/5 above average, beans were good Space: 3/5 decorated well but pretty limited seating Energy: 4/5 the vibe is nice, loses a point for being cramped

Yelp
Stopped by La Coop after seeing good reviews and that it was close by to where I live. The interior is nice with some spots to sit down to enjoy the food and drinks. They also roast their own beans here, so if you are looking for a new local roaster to check out, La Coop may be a good option. I got their HORCHATA LATTE (6.00 for 16 oz, I think) which is their signature drink. I liked that it wasn't too sweet (even though the horchata is made with condensed milk) and it was full of cinnamon flavor. The espresso was a nice touch with it, but I would have preferred it a bit stronger. Overall, I enjoyed this a lot and it's definitely a unique drink in this area. They also have pastries and a lot of food options (like sandwiches and also some breakfast options). La Coop would be a nice cafe to stop by for a quick lunch or a casual meet up spot with some friends.

Ameena A.

Yelp
The ambiance of this coffee shop is soooo stellar and cute!! Service was great and fast, even with a line. I tried the horchata coffee which I wasn't the biggest fan of - I'm not exactly sure why to be honest. I will definitely return to try something else! Another wish I had - it is not great for a gluten free person - I would suggest that La Coop consider gluten free bread and/or pastry options!

Alex P.

Yelp
Stopped in for their breakfast sandwich and iced mocha. The sandwich was average; cheddar, ham, egg on a croissant type biscuit. The mocha was pretty good, I felt it could be slightly stronger on the coffee. The inside is super trendy. There are 2 bathrooms but accessible. The employees were nice enough, not super conversational. Overall, this is an average coffee shop, I would stop in an get a coffee again but maybe pass on the food. $15 for a 16oz coffee and breakfast sandwich. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well!

Patrick S.

Yelp
La Coop redefines local coffee shops, with an elegance and intimacy we will see for years to come. I was really excited to come in and sit down with a cup of Horchata with a shot of espresso. The place felt very picturesque without the overcrowded feel. They have plenty of pastries and other snacks to try. Unfortunately they did not have any gluten free items. The staff was really nice and helpful with my allergies. They were able to answer questions about the ingredients in there drinks and pastries. It was our first time trying the dirty horchata and we absolutely loved it. What a new treat, and I recommend others to try it as well. We took our photos, then took our drinks and sat outside. There is plenty of seating if your looking for a coffee date, or study place, this spot is the place to go.

Niranjana S.

Yelp
Great spot for a cup of coffee in the Arlington area! It's a little bit out of the way from a metro line but worth going to at least once. I like their iced vanilla latte and service is usually quick.

Nina R.

Yelp
Delish!! Awesome!! Very nice service. I was trying to figure out what to get and asked what was popular and the gentleman working the espresso bar suggested the Dirty Horchata. He even offered me a sample! So I got it. The Iced Dirty Horchata is a sweetened rice milk beverage with cinammon, with a shot of espresso poured on top. Yummy. Very nice decor and ambiance. Great service. They have cozy indoor seating and a nice patio outside as well.

J S.

Yelp
Lovely place. Loved they had light, medium and dark roast drip coffee to offer. And vegan scones!

Salina P.

Yelp
This is a beautiful local coffee shop in Arlington! The staff is very friendly. It's great to catch up with a friend, enjoy a book or get some work done. Yes it is a bit small, but they have an decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating available. I arrived at about 12:30/12:45 pm and I was a bit surprised and disappointed to see most of the pastries unavailable. I ordered an egg and cheese croissant and an iced coffee. The coffee was good, however the croissant had a weird aftertaste. I had asked for no bacon and I felt like maybe it had been pre-made and the bacon was taken off before warming it up, but I am not sure. I think one major problem is that there are not any visible outlets if people are working and need to charge their laptop or something. The barista did offer to plug it in behind the counter if I sat on the barstool which was nice but I didn't want to sit on the barstools so. There are two bathrooms, which were exceptionally clean. Overall, I would come back... but I would try to come earlier in the day so I can hopefully try one of their pastries. I don't think I would order the sandwich again though.

Yelp
We saw an Instagram reel about this place and decided to come check it out. This location had a VERY noticeable fruit fly problem...not a very appetizing environment / honestly really grossed me out. It was bad enough to warrant a low review despite the coffee and sandwiches tasting fine. We were sitting at the bar area by the window and I noticed several fruit flies flying around and the bodies of several that other patrons had already smacked on the table (yuck). That and the trash area with the stevia packets was also absolutely swimming with them. The dirty horchata and breakfast biscuit sandwich were great. The iced matcha latte was lacking in matcha flavor (honestly just tasted like milk) and the Italian sandwich was good, but the base is just ham - I wish it could've had salami to make it more idk Italian tasting?

Yelp
La Coop Coffee just recently opened up at the Arlington Forest Shopping Center. They are a family -owned and -operated that started off in Union Cantinil, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, which ended up in the D.C. area! Their menu offers both hot and cold drinks, and a simple food menu that includes bagelitos, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, empanadas, pizzas, and burritos. I had their Dirty Horchata, extra hot - I wished this drink was a bit more stronger and had more of the horchata taste; I also wish that they had served it super hot, as requested. Service was friendly, and the place is super clean and well-decorated. Plenty of parking in the plaza. +friendly service +located in the Arlington Forest Shopping Center +plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot

Yelp
Deliciousness 1/5 Happiness 3/5 La Coop provides a welcoming atmosphere. While fashionably decorated, the space is a bit too small - with plenty of patrons needing to huddle outside in the cold weather. First, I got my usual go-to - a mocha. I prefer a mocha that is heavier on chocolate than coffee, but I've certainly drank my fair share of mochas balanced the other way. This mocha though was simply awful. It had virtually no chocolate whatsoever and the espresso was watered down. It really tasted like they poured a shot into a cup of boiling water. I couldn't finish it, which is extremely rare for me! I also went to order some breakfast items, but they were out of most of the non-pastry options - very bizarre by 9:00 on a Sunday. The service was also very slow, with a hefty line of people waiting to order. Unfortunately, there was nothing beyond the warm atmosphere I can recommend for La Coop.

Vincent M.

Yelp
Neat, little coffee shop. I was looking around for other places to try and their dirty horchata caught my attention. Gave that a try and also picked up a cheese danish. Very nice staff and they got the order together super-fast. The coffee was good, though I'd have liked a little more of a sweet and rice-y kick. The cheese danish was delicious; lots of cheese and a nice, chewy pastry.

Sydney M.

Yelp
This place is so cute, the workers were friendly, and the lattes and croissants were great. Their bathrooms were also really clean which is always nice.

Henry S.

Yelp
Good coffee drinks and friendly service. Their breakfast pastries could be better; the selection isn't great, and my scone was dry.

David R.

Yelp
We love La Coop - delicious coffee drinks, great atmosphere. We especially appreciate that they have non-dairy options for our kid who doesn't do lactose.

Glenn S.

Yelp
Visited one hour before closing, so stocks were low. Nevertheless the atmosphere was welcoming, as was the staff. Order was nothing exotic - Americano coffee with chocolate muffin. Both were very satisfying.

Michael T.

Yelp
It's great to have a coffee shop back in the neighborhood. La Coop also has tea, pastries, and ice cream treats.

Josh S.

Yelp
Great coffee. I've been to this location 3 times within the last week. One latte and two drip coffee orders. Each time I was pleased with the quality of the coffee and service. Support local, so support these guys and stop going to the big coffee chains.

Lisa B.

Yelp
This place is brand new! Very cute decor, and kind staff. Pastries looked good too! Iced mocha was nice and smooth! I would give it a 6.5/10. Cute spot though!

Duna A.

Yelp
I like the coffee and bakery , its a small cafe but the decor is so classy and elegant

Jillian D.

Yelp
Awesome new neighborhood coffee shop! We love that they don't use any artificial sweeteners and typically get our oat milk lattes with maple syrup! The baristas are super sweet and always so welcoming!

Brooke M.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would. I came in today with my husband. I asked him if he thought we should try this place again because he had such a bad experience when it first opened but he said ah let's give it a try again. We asked for two breakfast sandwiches with bacon. The shop had a few customers but not too many that it would be overwhelming. Two sets of people ahead of us. While we waited they got an order wrong for a customer that was waiting. I thought well, it's not sounding good already. We got our sandwiches next and they were both cold. Egg, cheese, and ham instead of bacon. Maybe they meant Canadian bacon? ‍ Any way - the biscuits were okay but the cold egg, cheese, and ham was upsetting. We ate a few bites - thinking anything in our stomachs would be good before a bike ride and boy were we wrong. We both felt unwell for a few hours after that and chucked the rest in the trash. This will be the last visit for us. We gave them a second try and regret that.

Emily A.

Yelp
Great coffee, yummy pastries and nice service! So happy to have a new coffee shop in the neighborhood. Looking forward to more visits and trying their pastries and food that will be coming on the menu soon!

Rachel F.

Yelp
We went on a Monday morning, 9:30am. I got medium drip, it had fruity notes as expected from Guatemalan coffee and I usually take my coffee with sugar but ended up only wanting creamer. Based on other reviews I wasn't entirely confident in ordering an espresso drink but my husband got the dirty horchata iced with espresso and it was delicious! The barista told me that the dirty horchata is different hot vs iced in that (if I remember correctly) the iced typically has coffee concentrate and the hot has espresso. She personally likes dirty horchata iced with espresso so that's what she made for my husband. Friendly, helpful baristas, would come back, I hope this place thrives.

Darla H.

Yelp
Ordered a large Mocha Latte It wasn't very mocha or latte - something was missing They tried to correct but it was still just not right. Staff wasn't aware of the Small Business Saturday sales on merchandise

KJ W.

Yelp
I like the new decor and great staff. They could add a bit more variety in their coffee drinks.

Camille L.

Yelp
Cute ambiance with a great selection of sweet and savory bites. They have a dirty horchata that I really enjoyed, but wish they could also have a dairy free option. Overall a great place, but I would recommend they have more standard flavor and seasonal flavor options for drinks!

Suzanne M.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is outstanding! Made with a cheesy biscuit, egg, thick Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese, my husband and I highly recommended it! Best drip coffee around- if you can't stand Starbucks drip coffee, you'll appreciate the smooth fresh taste of La Coop. I had the light roast, and my husband had a flat white that he really enjoyed.

Alex G.

Yelp
Excellent coffee, great service, super cute and clean cafe! great spot for a date or a place to get some work done! The owners are super nice!

Robin G.

Yelp
Cold brew was good, people nice, but the chive scone was one of the worse scones I've had. Salty, baking soda taste with no chive flavor and texture was dry and rubbery. Might try coffee again but not the pastries.

Danielle R.

Yelp
fantastic atmosphere, amazing coffee, and delicious pastries! i am so happy i tried this place out, will definitely be my new go-to coffee spot!

D B.

Yelp
As a person who solely drinks brewed coffee black I can only attest to this portion of the business. While this location has been open almost a month I have tried their coffee about 10 times. It is nice to have a non chain coffee shop on the Route 50 corridor in Arlington. They offer a light, medium, and dark roast daily. The coffee is wonderful with the differences expected between the roasts. I prefer a medium roast myself but have tried all three and found each an enjoyable cup of coffee. Hope they find the success needed to thrive in this location. I k ow I will be stopping by several times a week.
